    Spicy tuna crispy rice
    Deidre M.

Can't believe it's taken me years to come here!! As someone who frequents Japan and has been disappointed too many times w/ stateside sushi and avoids it--I'm so happy to have finally dined here. Loved having the ability of variety and super freshness at a fair price. V good for vegan friends. The hamachi sashimi was incredibly tasty. 2 of us shared 2x cut rolls, the sashimi, and crispy rice and it was the perfect small dinner snack share (room for dessert hehe). Dug the intimate vibes there as well. Fun to sit at the counter. Can't wait for my hub to try!

I had a great time here, it was a quick bite to eat while running errands. The presentation of the tuna bites was amazing. The rice was sooo crispy i loved it and overall I had a good experience. There is patio seating but it wasn't available at the time we were there im not sure why. I would come back.

We wanted to go to a restaurant close by but it wasn't open yet so we popped in Ichijiku to kill sometime. We ordered a couple orders of the crispy rice with spicy tuna, couple miso soups, crab hand roll and rice with tofu skin and edamame. The food was amazing so tasty and presentation is nice as well. The service we received was great. Im commenting on this because there are a number of bad reviews touching on negative service. We thought it was good. We were welcomed in, attended to quickly, no complaints. The place itself is nice more on the intimate side small bar area, some window seating and they share an outdoor patio so there is that too. Would we come back. Definitely

It's definitely grown on us as our neighborhood sushi spot! The service is always so approachable and efficient and the vibe is perfect for a friend or significant other hang. We typically go for an Asahi beer on tap and the bento box for 2 special during happy hour. Low key don't want to write this review bc we would still like to be able to get a seat whenever we get the sushi craving but this spot definitely deserves the buzz and love.

Incredibly fresh tasting fish. Worth it for the price. Loved the outdoor seating area

Yellow tail hamachi was the best I've ever had!! Fantastic!

I really wanted to like this place and the food was good. However, there was something that happened that simply did not let me have peace in giving them 5 stars (please take a look at my other reviews, I dole 5 stars as the default, and I am an easy to please customer, so it is nearly impossible for me to give anything lower than 5 or 4, unless the circumstances merit it). I came here on Valentine's Day and upon entering, the bartender/server was taking care of some customers. I wasn't greeted but that is normal, since the poor lady was juggling a lot of stuff. After around 5 minutes of waiting, I see that there is a small table available by the window and decided to sit there, so that I could let her know that I wanted to eat. She then grabs a phone call, and, phone in hand, rushes to the area where I am sitting, goes over me without greeting me or even acknowledging me, and starts talking on the phone to someone about how there is still one table available. After she was done with the call, I asked her if I could please have a table, and she gave me a pen and paper and told me to write down my name and number and let me know that they would call me when a table was available. Mind you, she did tell me that wait time was around 45 minutes, and she told me this at 8pm, (they close at 9pm). My friend was 15 minutes late but as soon as she arrived, I told her and she went in and got the same spiel from the lady. I saw the couple that she was talking on the phone with (their call came in around 3 or 4 minutes after I had entered the restaurant, so I was technically first in line) get to the restaurant around 10 minutes after my friend and I had arrived and talked to her a couple of times, and sit in the very same table that was avalilable, and that I was sitting on, waiting for the lady to acknowledge me so that she could please take my order and my friend's order. My friend and I were waiting outside in the cold for around 45 minutes, when another lady from the business next door came out, and in the most polite, friendly and approachable way asked us what we were waiting for. I told her "Ichijiku" and she said that they operate on a first-come-first-served basis, and not on a waiting list. I told her that I had already been waiting outside for 45 minutes, even though I had arrived on time, and when there was a table available and she immediately went inside to talk to the other lady. At around 9:10pm, after the restaurant had already closed and the table was finally vacant, they let us in, took our order and served us. Up until this point, the lady had been super rude and condescending with me, but maybe talking to the 2nd lady that came to check up on us and sharing with her the situation, caused her to go inside and have a chat with her. I ended up spending over 100 dollars, and leaving a 20% tip but despite that, I do not plan on coming back. My dignity and being treated with respect and kindness (same way that I always try to treat others) is worth more than the best sushi in the world (granted, they have pretty good sushi, but I don't know if I'd call it "the best in the world". Still pretty fantastic, tho). Anyays, after over 4 years on Yelp, here is my measly 3rd review in which I am forced to leave one star.

No frills, just basic sushi cut and hand rolls in Highland Park area. They also have weekday lunch specials. I'll have to come back another time to try.

One of the best sushi spots I've had a in a while actually. We didn't really do any appetizers and went straight in for the fish. Started off with a couple of hand rolls, we did the crab hand roll and O toro hand roll. Crab hand roll wasn't as impressive, I've had better to be honest. I didn't let that experience ruin it for me because the toro hand roll was delicious. I think they add a piece of mint and it complimented the hand roll. Very crunchy nori wrapper and good rice to fish ratio. For our sushi we started with chu toro tuna, salmon belly, and halibut. Super fresh melt in your mouth quality. Halibut was interesting with the truffle, first time definitely won't be the last. We ended it with red snapper and black snapper. Absolutely amazing, I think the black snapper or the red snapper was slightly charred. It was so good. To say the least, this restaurant was worth it!

Nice of the chef to switch out roe for halibut for me on my omakase. However, probably the worst omakase I've ever had. No creativity, nothing felt premium, chewy fish, flavors didn't mesh, and half of it was salty. The miso soup wasn't scorching, which i appreciated at first but that meant the last few sips were fairly room temp. The real crab handroll was good. If the price point was $35 sushi set I'd give 5/5 but this is supposed to be premium omakase. I've been to other Sushi Enya locations and had good experiences, so this was very disappointing. Stick to the rolls and nigiri.

It was definitely not what I've expected or ever experienced in a Japanese restaurant. We were quickly greeted by the staff and be seated by the wall. The upholstery of our seats were torn. The area where we were sitting was a bit too dark and could definitely add more lights for customers to see their menus. After giving a look at the menu, our server asked if we were ready. I said it's our first time so we need some time to look through the menu. She replied ok and left. We mainly ordered sushi items. Servers brought over each item one at a time. When I almost finished mine, my family is still waiting for theirs. You do see the staff walk by the tables constantly. However, I would hope the servers would ask how is everything and if we need anything else. Overall, sushi tastes fine. I probably won't be back given the experience that we had.
