Our A/C and Heating Unit on the lower floor was not cooling or heating at all. The only thing working was the circulating fan, which, this summer, was just moving hot air around the rooms. Since we've moved to Glendale from Chicago, we've used Yelp to find almost every service needed when relocating to a new home. We've found Doctors, Dentist, Plumber, Electrician, Restaurants, and everything in between. Every single service has been great, so we trust Yelp for this service too. Greg & ICY A/C came up with 5 stars, and that got my attention. After reading the reviews, I was convinced that ICY-A/C was the real deal. Greg and George returned my calls promptly, showed up on time, in clean work uniforms, in a clean service truck. He greeted me professionally, and thanked us for calling him. The problem was quickly diagnosed, and 1 hour later, the A/C was running nice and cool. They even checked the other unit for the second floor, and cleverly added a filter, even though the installing contractor had not made provisions for a filter box. I had an older Lennox heat pump with the compressor unit installed on the roof of my 2-story house. The roof was old and needed to be replaced because of some bad leaks, so I decided to have the unit moved to a spot under the house. The heat pump was also old and had recently started shutting down right after coming on. Because of their many favorable reviews on Yelp I called Icy AC first. They came over right away and gave me a very reasonable estimate. When the time came to do the job Greg and George arrived as scheduled very early last Saturday to direct the crane service and move the unit down the hillside to its new location. They had checked out the unit the day before to make sure it was still usable and not leaking refrigerant. When the re-installation was finished they addressed the shut-down problem I had been having and fixed it. That was not easy but they kept at it until everything was working again. The installation was done very neatly. I'm completely happy with it and with having the heat pump working reliably again. Greg is the man!!!! Late on a Friday night, my husband was installing a new home thermostat and somehow lost power to the whole thing. I was worried given that it was going to be another hot day on Saturday (not a good time to have the AC out). Luckily, he found Greg and Icy Air online. We called several AC services trying to find one in the area that would be able to come by on a Saturday. Greg was the only one to call back and he did so within 15 minutes. Having never used Greg's service before we weren't sure what to expect. I figured we would have to pay at least $100 just to get someone to come out and diagnose the issue, not including the actual repair. Greg was able to quickly identify the potential cause and walked my husband through the repair that he could perform himself. Greg was so helpful and kept saying to call him at anytime if we had any questions during our attempt to fix the furnace. He also mentioned that if the fix didn't work he would be available in the afternoon to come by and look at it. To my surprise, he never once asked or even mentioned any fees for his services. It was like calling a friend for help. He even followed up later in the afternoon to make sure that the repair went okay. Talk about amazing service. I've had three separate service calls to ICY AIR for three separate problems over the course of two years, because my air-heat combo is over 20 years old. Gregg was able to correctly diagnose and quickly repair my problems at minimal cost, and my system will be good to run for many more years. He offered some upgrade options but did not press me to upgrade. Some other firm looked it over and told me to spend $17,000 to replace everything, not even bothering to diagnose. I called Greg at Icy based on the Yelp reviews and could not be happier with his service. He is A++!! Scheduling - Greg promptly returned my message when I called to make an appointment, did not change the time on me, and showed up in the promised window. You would think that this is how all companies treat their clients but sadly it is not. Service - I suspected that our condensation line was to blame for the leak from our A/C unit. Greg went up on the roof and asked if I wanted to join him for a look. Not being a fan of heights I told him I trusted whatever he said and didn't need to see the issue with my own eyes. Greg gently insisted that I get a visual so he took photos on his iPhone, climbed back down, and then carefully explained what the issue was and how he would solve it. Even though the leak was a straightforward fix Greg seemed committed to making sure I fully understood what he was going to do. That was really refreshing. I asked for a price and received a reasonable number right off the bat - no nonsense. Greg said it would take about an hour to fix and sure enough within about an hour our A/C was leak free. My old furnace died, the blower broke. I was looking for quotes to have a new furnace installed. I contacted this company because of the glowing reviews. Gregg answered the phone and he came promptly on time with his assistant, they were polite and courteous. They inspected the unit and I ask them to give me a quote for a new furnace and also another one to replace only the blower. At that point they told me they could be available to start the work in about nine days (they could have told me that over the phone.) I responded that if the price is right I would wait for them. Gregg told me that he will call me back in half hour with an estimate. He never did. read more

This is an update to a previous review of ICY Air Conditioning: It's been 6 years since I last saw Greg and all is well, except, I forgot that he told me to clean the filter every once in a while. I returned from a 3 week trip away and the cold air refused to blow. I gave him a call Monday and we scheduled for Wednesday. He actually remembered me and the cat and I told him about the two rescue dogs since and he asked if I cleaned the filter, I said "oops". He cleaned it then checked out the roof; turns out the roofers had knocked it into the off position. He asked if I wanted to pay ($150) now or work it out first with the HOA. I paid him because he came out quickly, cleaned the filter and is an honest guy. He could have said it was something else, but didn't. HOA paid and all is well. Still, 5 stars. Greg from ICY AC fixed my AC unit yesterday and I have to say, I am extremely pleased! I am the kind of guy who hates paying for someone to fix something that I can fix myself. So when the AC stopped blowing cold air on a ~100 degree day I started to scour the internet to figure out what could be wrong. After checking everything all the obvious easy stuff myself (breaker, capacitor, switch, etc) I finally decided I needed to call someone. So I read the reviews on Yelp (thanks guys!) and decided to give them a call. They set an appointment for the next day, and Greg arrived right on time (I know showing up when you say you will shouldn't be a plus, but after dealing with alot of contractors, it actually is). He quickly took a look, did a diagnostic, and then explained (and showed) me that my fan motor was bad and was drawing too much current. So he said it needed to be replaced, but he didn't have the right part in his van. He said I could think about it and just pay him for the service call ($85). But I didn't have my checkbook with me and he couldn't take my credit card. So he just told me to call him if I want him to replace the fan, or if not, I can just mail him a check for the service charge. This is what really sold me. The fact that he didn't just want to get my money and run, but would actually trust me to mail a check was very pleasantly unexpected. I called him back later and scheduled a meeting the next day to replace it. I watched him work (for my own education) and I have to say he did a great job and was very detailed. I can tell when someone takes short cuts or jerry rigs things just to get it to work and then run. His work was clean and methodical, and his price was reasonable. I highly recommend ICY to anyone who has AC issues and I do believe I now have my own "AC guy". read more

Our a/c went out during a heat wave (105+ degrees). I called in the am and Greg said he'd be there between 1 and 3. I asked him to call me before he came, since I would be at work and needed a few minutes to get home. He was very understanding when he had to wait for me. He arrived at 2 and our a/c was fixed by 3, and the price was very reasonable. After the last rain it got cold again and my central heater died at the same time. After considering calling some local company todo the repair I searched around good ol' Yelp and found Icy HVAC. I called Icy HVAC at around 4pm that day and Greg was able to come out at 5pm to start the repairs. I've never met a repairman (in any trade) who was more congenial and accomodating as Greg. He really put in a lot of hours to get our system going again. I was expecting a huge inflated bill based on the amount of time he put in but, as the other Yelpers have noted, his invoice was very reasonable. It's been about 2 weeks now and we have had the heater going each night. The heater works great and it operates much more quietly than before. I would highly recommend Greg and Icy HVAC to anyone. This was my second call to Greg for help. My furnace went out a couple days before a big cold snap was supposed to come through. He diagnosed the problem and showed me that the wiring was cracking and needed to be replaced (I like when technicians thoroughly explain WHY something needs to be done). He did not have the right plug type for the job and he had another job to run to, but he promised to go out that same night and buy all the necessary parts, then come over the following day to do the job. Good thing he went out and got the hard to find part that night (he had to got 5 different places) because he was running late the next day with everyone trying to get their heaters fixed before the big storm. He came a little after 6:30pm on a Friday and finished the job in about an hour. He had two more jobs to go to that night! Great work from Greg. Can't recommend him enough. read more

Wish I had the same superlative experience the other reviewers here did. Our furnace stopped working in the night and we woke up freezing cold (yes, it can happen even in LA). One thing I loved was that a live human being answered the phone right when I called and assured me she'd call back in five minutes when she determined if there was a service person in our area. And she did. Greg came on time, was perfectly fine and nice. We are now toasty warm - but he failed to explain much and we ended up feeling like we overpaid for a single little piece of plastic which he replaced for a cost of $90 plus $100 labor. I feel like if I had shopped around more I might have gotten the work done for a better price. But what do I know? Not much, since so little was explained. I wish he had taken the time to make me feel like the cost was justified. read more
