New owner as of last Fall and we finally got the chance to go. Place was clean, bright and yet still cozy with the fireplace roaring! There was a nice big bar area but also tables and a shuffleboard table (which was very popular). There are also SO many tvs! We just missed happy hour but prices were still good. We got a cheesesteak ($17) to split between us and it was plenty. We also got fries with it for only $2 more. The food was good and filling. My hubby got a coke ($3) while I got a glass of house wine ($6.00). The staff was friendly and helpful. We'll go back again to try the happy hour deals! read more

Original staff is great and so is food; new ownership is great but the young chick who thinks she can wait tables and bar with her looks needs to go get a job doing makeup at a mall. She's got the attention span of a Q-tip and this has happened more than once and friends have had the same experience. And she's rude, too. Horrible service. Great place to watch a football game. Lots of TVs. Great ample parking. Even though we were the only 6 Steelers fans here, everyone was friendly. The cheeseburger sliders were delicious. Good beer selections as well. The manager "Timarra" (I think) and staff were very accommodating. Every appetizer we had there was good. The wings were exceptional. 8 of us older guys meet there every couple of months for a few drinks and food on a Wednesday evening. Food and service was great but this Wednesday they had a band that was playing so loud you were screaming to speak with each other. We moved to the furthest table and still couldn't hear the person sitting next to you. The table seated next to us pointed to their ears and got up and left. It is a nice place, with as I said good food and good service, but unfortunately if the music was way too loud to be able to enjoy the company you are with. read more

Would really like to like this place as it's local to us but...many of the bartenders are just so unfriendly that it's difficult to ignore. I want to exclude the ladies that work at the bar (so sorry I forgot your names - Mariel?) but the guys, they almost go out of their way to be unfriendly, especially the tall blonde guy (oy!). Back in the day of Petey, Patty, Beth, that's when you had bartenders that were polite, engaging, happy to see and chat with a repeat customer. The current guys you have working there, not so much. My daughter and son-in-law are medical/law enforcement in the area and suggested myself and my eldest daughter and granddaughter go there for a quick bit before heading home on an hour and a half drive. It wasn't really busy - only two tables with folks, although a handful of guys at the other side of the bar. We walked in and no one greeted us, etc. I motioned to the woman behind the bar if we should seat ourselves. We took a table in the corner. She brought over menus and too drink orders. My daughter noticed we got these little 6 ounce glasses as we watched her service sodas to another table in much larger glasses - why? *shrug* My granddaughter got a kids pizza, my daughter got pasta and I order their buffalo chicken sliders. The pasta was a bit overcooked and edging towards mushy. The pizza was ok. The buffalo chicken sliders were ok - but a few were actually cold - not room temp - cold. I didn't finish them. All in all, I'm not sure, other than cheap prices and a big bar, why they would recommend this place to us. If you're drinking alot, I'm sure their food will suffice. read more

I stop in the Idle Hour every other Saturday afternoon or so with a friend for a firehouse or a chicken cheesesteak (with a Guinness or three). They make the most awesome cheesesteaks and the Guinness is always fresh and cold, something that can be hard to find. Believe it or not finding a good cheesesteak with fresh toppings and a cold Guinness served at the same table is not as easy as it sounds. The Saturday cook is by far the best in Point Pleasant for this type of food and much more. The full entrees are great as well. The bar staff are always friendly and are quick to refill your drink or see if anything is needed. I highly recommend the Idle Hour if you're looking for a good local bar with great food. read more

Went there to see a band play recently. Thought it was weird that they'd have a band playing during an NFL playoff game, but whatever, I got to see both. The food was ok, pretty standard bar fare, and the bar staff was pleasant - one woman in particular was very friendly (I think her name was Shannon, maybe?). Overall, decent place. That said, the waitress was unbelievably rude. After 20 minutes I had to go to the bar to get menus for us since the waitress had only glared at us so far. When she finally did come to our table there were ZERO pleasantries and she gruffly told us "if we wanted to order, do it soon because she wasn't going to be there all night"... uh, ok. She all but threw our food on the table and walked away. We didn't see her again until my friend had to go find her to ask for our check. I have honestly never encountered someone so blatantly rude & nasty in a waitress position and I worked in service for YEARS. I get having an off night/being busy/whatever, but this woman was just over the top nasty and the reason we won't be back there. We tipped her, but begrudgingly, she really didn't deserve a cent from us. She makes your business look bad. EDIT TO ADD: I had forgotten my debit card there and realized it about half way home. I called and spoke to the bartender who had been serving us all evening and explained that I live almost 2 hours away and she agreed to mail it to me. When I hadn't gotten it after 2 weeks I called to make sure it had been sent. The rude woman that answered the phone laughed at me and told me "we don't mail cards" and I politely insisted that the bartender had told me she would and had taken my address. She continued to laugh and said good luck. Called again a few days later and spoke to the bartender who assured me it had been mailed. Funny, cuz I never got it. Thanks for nothing. It's a definite local hangout with a decently busy bar area even during weekdays in the off season. The first time we came here, we had great service by a friendly bartender. The bar area is large and easily can seat quite a number of people. Large TV's, pool tables, jukebox and pretty much everything you can expect to find in a tavern. It's a nice mixed crowd with all age groups but a very laid-back, friendly vibe. The second time we came we were served by a surly, shorter bartender who has an obvious chip on his shoulder to everyone. He will look at your empty glass and purposely ignore you and take around 20 minutes to grudgingly come over even though he is not busy doing anything else. We ordered appetizers which were basically thrown down in front of us and then he walked away without a word. Brushing off the our last experience, we came in again for a late snack and the same bartender was working again. Same surly and unpleasant service. This time, as we were eating a man came up with a 6-pack of beer he was intending to purchase. This poor guy was standing there next to us for about 10 full minutes as the guy saw him and deliberately walked away, started text messaging for awhile, then started cleaning the bottle tops out of the beer coolers. The guy looked at us and said "Is he doing this on purpose to to ignore me? Did I do something?" We told him apparently not since we and everyone else were getting the same kind of treatment. The guy wound up leaving the beer on the counter and just walking out. We also finished up and left there for the final time. Hopefully, whomever owns or manages this establishment sees this account by people who were customers and will intentionally never go there again because of one employee. This guy is only a detriment to your business and must be costing you quite a bit in losses. read more

One of my favorite places in the Boro. An old neighborhood bar with good food and cold beer. There is live entertainment on weekends. Daily specials and recently hired and new chef and updated the menu. A recent renovation opened the floor up, but there is no doubt this is a sports bar. At least 10-12 HDTV surround the bar. I have gone here a lot when I was younger and they had the best Reuben, French Onion Soup, Homemade Onion Rings and The Sligo. Its a sports bar with lots of tvs to view from but it also is a full service restaurant so you can bring the fam if sports aren't your partay. The Sligo--I know your curious. Not only did it take me over ten minutes to get a drink, Billy was rude and unaccommodating. I was told I couldn't open a tab with a credit card due to the upcoming shift change at 6:00pm; however it was 5:00. Maybe Patty should think about retiring. Bad Attitude. Along with other regulars, I was unhappy how I was treated after spending thousands of dollars per year. Management and staff need a significant change. The fact that the managers are always available and bartenders are quick and precise with orders is a definite plus, Weekends get fairly busy with a mostly local crowd that consists of both the young and the old. Due to this, there is also a decent blend of music, as well as live music on certain nights of the week, which always promotes a happier, more lively atmosphere. Nothing seems to become drab or monotonous, The establishment appears to be professional and hygienic from what I have seen through my many nights spent here. Overall, I would give this fun little Point Pleasant bar a higher score of 4.5, but am unable to do so because of restrictions. I'm quite happy with all my time spent here. read more

Been going here for years with our kids and all 4 of us love it here. The Wing special can't be beat!! Get them IH way! If you don't mind the old, traditional bar/pub atmosphere, they have Very affordable, decent food. Good soups, salads and sandwiches too! Great lunch specials.
