    Uni
    Art D.

Takashin is a great Japanese restaurant that serves sashimi, nigiri and tempura. We have been here for lunch (seasonal) and dinner many times and we are always more than satisfied with the offerings and delicious, fresh meals. The sushi chef and staff are welcoming. While we had a very early dinner, we were surprised that many more customers are not finding their way to enjoy an outstanding experience here. The mouthwatering sushi was just as good as what we have had in Tokyo. This evening we both decided to order uni as a starter and the same specialty which was a Blue Fin Tuna Plate with tempura, nigiri, and tuna roll. With each bite of the uni and sushi, I'm certain my eyes closed with such delight. The seafood was so fresh and melted in my mouth. The tempura was crisp and light served with a matcha salt and dipping sauce. For desert, we shared a green tea cheesecake which was good. We will be back!

Sushi is not something I usually crave when I am in the desert, but I saw a lot of positive feedback for Takashin. It is tucked away in a corner of the Villa Soleil Apartments, but there is plenty of street parking along Palm Canyon Drive. The staff were very friendly and attentive. They also were knowledgeable about the menu, which I noticed right away, especially when they have monthly specials. Things ordered: + Takashin Ceviche ($20), a very refreshing appetizer + Toro sushi ($12.50 each), it was super fresh and delicious + Sea Urchin sushi from California ($10 each), ordered this since the uni from Japan was out, this was quality uni + Sweet Shrimp sushi ($10.50 each), this was really good + Scallops sushi from Japan ($6 each), fresh and had great garnish + Whitefish Yuzu ($31), it reminded me of carpaccio and was good + Chilean Sea Bass Miso Yaki ($27), it was okay I really liked this establishment. It was not cramped, there is a sushi bar, and the vibes were good.

Takashin is a locally owned authentic sushi spot in Palm Springs, we found them due to Yelp and were glad we did! The nigiri was fresh, the Japanese wagyu was tasty too, and we especially liked the large selection of regional Japanese sake. The chef was very friendly and we enjoyed it for a weekend dinner. I would say the fish is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Would recommend Takashin if you're feeling fishy in Palm Springs

I truly enjoy sushi and had high hopes for this restaurant after reading many positive reviews. One even claimed the food was comparable to what you'd find in Japan. Unfortunately, I took that person's advice, and while I haven't traveled to Japan myself, I have traveled to Hawaii for over 20 years, where I've experienced authentic Japanese cuisine. This restaurant didn't meet those expectations. On a positive note, I appreciated that they didn't offer a lot of rolls, which often represent non-authentic Japanese food. The service was excellent--perhaps (at the time) because my sister and I were the only ones there--but I appreciated the attentiveness. We ordered assorted sushi, a dynamite dish that was watered down with too many mushrooms and not enough scallops, two miso soups, and the seabass dish. I was quite disappointed to find that the seabass was just a pre-sliced fillet for $27, rather than the whole fish I expected. The portion was thin and not worth the price. I really want to support this restaurant, but unfortunately, the quality fell short of what I had hoped for.

I had the salmon bento with assorted tempura and my friends ordered the chirashi bowl. The fish was fresh and delicious. The service was great, just slow. The downfall was that they didn't have the air conditioning on and it was so hot in there. It just doesn't feel right to eat sushi while sweating! We told our server at least 4x and finally they opened the doors to let the breeze in. It was about 10 degrees cooler outside than it was inside. Not sure why they didn't open the doors sooner!

    - Wonderful and friendly service - Miso soup was super flavorful - Rainbow roll was the star of the show - Green tea and lots of refills - Pricey TAKASHIN is a solid little gem right on Palm Canyon. My partner and I came here during the Magic of Lights parade, as we were both starving and everywhere else around was already booked solid. They had just opened up, so we figured why not let's try it. The staff were very welcoming, and super attentive to us. Service was fast, and the food was great! They have a lot of pricey items on the menu, so it was a bit difficult to find something that we could have that wouldn't break the bank. We ended up going with sides and rolls, which worked out for us. Our favorite was the rainbow roll! The restaurant served as a great way for us to watch the parade while still inside. We could see everything through the window, and the staff didn't mind us staying there to enjoy. Thank you TAKASHIN!

Seared/King Salmon. Off menu item that the chef was able to make.

Anyway, we made it for dinner Saturday night. When we arrived, the patio seating was pretty much open as everyone wanted inside seating with the heat going on. They do have the mister on full blast if you wanted to be outside which people did utilized it half an hour after we arrived. There's a couple of hi top tables and seating at the bar area but main seating is the kitchen counter. It's like the chefs table. You're literally watching them cook and interacting with them. I love it there. The service is alway great and the staff are always amazing and friendly. It's like family getting together when we walk in. Of course you have the two brothers Ruben and Ozzys taking good care of everyone. The main counter where we like seats about 10 or so people and it all looks into the kitchen. Love that we can interact with the chefs while dining. But everyone comes for the main thing, the amazing seafood dishes. Would you get seafood in the desert. This place I say yes. Everytime we've been here which has been years, the meal has alway been excellent. And this time was another great experience. We have our regular that we alway go with for starters. The mussels in white wine sauce is definitely a must. Big meaty green mussels with a delicious white wine broth and of course you have to have the garlic bread for dipping. We didn't get any other starters but I do recommend the poke stack, both fresh oyster and grilled. Ahi is excellent with the dipping sauce and if you don't want seafood as a starter, the lamb chops are quite nice. They also have a good selection with their wine list and mixed drinks. I believe it's a full bar as well. Entrees, my favorite is the Ruben specials. Shrimp, crab, scallop, mussels and clams with garlic, basil, tomatoes, green onions in a white wine sauce with linguine. So so good and flavorful. Ozzy special is another favorite but we didn't get it this time. Also it was a first time getting the crab enchiladas. Let me say, it was delicious. 2 hand rolled corn tortillas stuffed with crab meat and cheese with creamy verde sauce and cheese. That's served with rice. Simple dish but so delicious and flavorful. The meal was delicious as always and the company was excellent. Everyone here is the best and the sweetest and friendliest. The locals love it here as they tend to know everyone that walks in. It's a must when you're in Palm Springs. Can't wait till they return around Labor Day which we will be back for another meal. Highly recommend.

QUICK TAKE Get: Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos, Grilled Chicken & Mango Salad, flatbread, burger, Key Lime Pie Skip: Coconut Shrimp Know: Ask for salad dressing on the side. They are very generous with it. This turned out to be a great casual lunch in Palm Springs. The setting is relaxed, the menu is easy to share, and there were several things I would happily order again. Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos: Probably my favorite. The mahi comes with tomato relish, chipotle aioli, island slaw, lime sour cream, fire-roasted salsa and chips. Lots of flavor without losing the fish underneath. Grilled Chicken & Mango Salad: Really good combination of grilled chicken, baby greens, feta, toasted almonds and macadamia nuts, pepitas, dried blueberries and tomatoes with a lemon basil vinaigrette. My only advice is to get the dressing on the side. They use a lot of it. Flatbread: Another solid choice for the table. Easy to share and one of those dishes that disappeared pretty quickly. All-American Burger: Simple and very good. American cheese, pickles, Tommy Spread, lettuce, tomato and onion. Nothing fancy, just well done. Key Lime Pie: Definitely save room. Tart, creamy and one of the better endings to the meal. Coconut Shrimp: The only thing I would skip. The shrimp itself was fine, but between the coconut coating and papaya-mango chutney, it was much too sweet for me. Overall, we were impressed. This is not quite the same dining experience or menu you get at a regular Tommy Bahama Restaurant, but for a casual meal in downtown Palm Springs, it worked really well. Refreshing, flavorful and one of those drinks that goes down a little too easily We tried the margarita flights too, which were fun because you get to taste a few different flavors. Management actually comped our flights, which was such a nice touch! We sat outside and honestly it was perfect. They have misting fans going, so even with that Palm Springs heat, you really don't feel it fr . I was also pleasantly surprised that flies weren't really an issue. We only started noticing them here and there once it got darker outside. Overall, great service, really good drinks, generous portions and a nice outdoor vibe. If you're visiting Palm Springs, I'd definitely recommend stopping by Clandestino -- and get the nachos for sure!
