Some how Idylwilde had fallen off my radar. I used to drive there specifically as a destination store years ago. But now that I'm in Acton twice a week, right around the corner, why am I not going there? Idylwilde is part farm stand, part gourmet grocery store, part garden center, part cafe. You can walk in, get corn stalks and pumpkins for your front steps, a cup of coffee and a gourmet baked good for a mid morning snack, and bring home bread, cheeses, wine and fruit for an evening picnic. I stopped in over the weekend. I needed fresh, vine ripened, heirloom cherry tomatoes for a caprese salad. I was able to find them. $1.99 for a half pint. While I was there I realized what a treasure I was missing. I feel like Idylwilde is the type of place- you cannot walk into with a list. You need to walk in with an open mind and let the products speak to you. I hadn't planned on toasted rye with goat cheese and hot pepper jelly for dinner. But that is what spoke to me last night!

Beautiful place to shop, consistently good produce. They also have really good prepared meals, and we LOVE their fresh squeezed OJ!

Perhaps it was just the day as the street sale was happening and the store was extra busy but I got attitude when I asked about a certain type of sandwich and came close to making a retort that would have been embarrassing for me and the other person involved. I ordered and waited for my food, paid then I left. Sorry to say that I was dismayed but there it is. It was quite busy on the day and it seemed that crowd management could have been handled better. Perhaps when the store has its remodel the traffic flow can be improved upon. I've always enjoyed shopping here and would like that to continue..

The shop sells cheese (and they let you have samples), wine, and imported foods, but it also a full deli that serves sandwiches, salads, prepared food, and more. My mom is vegan but was able to make a very good vegan sandwich (hummus and lots of veggies), while I really really really really loved their French Picnic sandwich (French ham, brie, apples, and honey mustard on baguette). It was the best brie (and soooo much brie) that I've ever had and just a perfect sandwich. There was a little wait to order - it's a popular spot - but once our sandwiches were in a brown paper sack in our hands, we drove over to Walden Pond and enjoyed them there. What could be a more perfect lunch on a first visit to Concord than a great sandwich from the Concord Cheese Shop enjoyed looking out at Walden Pond?! I'd return for that sandwich - and next time I'm tasting cheeses, too!

The people working there were really nice and let us eat there until 8. It is cute inside, with limited seating. They also have picnic tables outside. They sell wine, pasta, sauces, coffee beans, ice cream, etc. some from local companies/vendors. It's a fun place to browse. Their chicken sandwiches are good, but I always get a bowl with either chicken thighs or steak. They have excellent sauces and the food here is really good, albeit a bit on the saltier side. The clam chowder is nice and hearty. I also really like their drinks, including the strawberry rhubarb one and the lemonade.

Their fried chicken sandwiches can all be made with plant-based chicken, which suits my current situation. I had the Street Corn Chicken Torta (G, D) with the plant-based chicken and it was fantastic. My potato salad side was excellent too. They had a lot of orders up with folks coming in constantly. Such a cute building also. Great place, and the staff were super nice as well.
