It's a hard place to criticize but our last visit has swayed the bar. The high prices always justified the vast selection of high quality fruits and vegetables. European meats and cheeses for special occasions and fresh squeezed orange juice were our mainstays but recently pricing has has hit an excessive high and the prepared foods have hit a low. Extremely bland and some are of low quality ingredients. I don't get it, it was a destination and a treat but we will be avoiding Idylwilde in the future. They need to reevaluate their kitchen staff and turn this around soon. read more

Idylwilde used to sell quality items but have gone downhill recently. Luckily Whole Foods has come in close by with better pricing. On my recent visit I purchased meat that was already expired. I unfortunately didn't check the date as I trusted them. They refused to refund me unless I came back in which is 25 minutes away. The manager and owner were extremely rude. For a local business I would expect them to be more customer friendly and sell quality products. read more

I am a regular Idylwilde Farm customer and love shopping there. However, I will never go back again after today. I was shopping with my 70 year old mother. We went to check out at the outdoor cashier and the man was wearing his mask below his chin. He remarked that he couldn't hear with a mask on. We had a cart full of flowers, so I knew we would be there for a few minutes. I asked the man if he could, please, put his mask on while we checked out. He remarked that he couldn't breath with it on. I said, "I am sorry you can't breath." He then told another employee that I yelled at him to put his mask on and told me to help my mother if I was concerned about her. He was rude and implied I was rude. I was not. I simply asked him to wear a mask during a pandemic. I have emailed the owner of Idylwilde and asked what the policy on face masks is for employees. WOW-- what an amazing market! The cheese and flower section could distract me for hours. My friends and I ordered a small deli platter from Idylwilde Farm and picked it up 24 hours later. However, when we arrived the platter was not ready, and we had to wait 20 minutes for them to prepare another one. Usually I would be the first to complain or Yelp about my experience, but the manager quickly pulled us aside to apologize. They even made us a medium sized platter and charged us the price of a small...we saved $20! This review is only based on my first visit, but I'd have to say that I'm a distant fan. read more

I have been a customer of this place for about 5 years, spending an average of $125 per week. (not hard to do at this place!) I was shopping there a few weeks ago, and it was to be a quick visit. I had my shopping bag over my arm and I was placing the items into it. The owner walked up to me and handed me a shopping basket and said, "you can't do that- we've had trouble here." I was honestly speechless because it was crowded and he embarrassed me. I have to be honest- I've driven there since and can't bring myself to go in. The prices are high, but I always enjoyed shopping there and perusing. I have switched to Roche Brothers and Whole Foods, who are as expensive, but I get GREAT service and nobody accuses me of trying to steal something. So now you're thinking- geez, a bad review for one bad experience? Nope! I complained about the service at the deli a couple of months ago. In particular, the older Asian man is just downright unpleasant. When I complained, the owner's son, (who was very nice) explained that English is a second language to this man and he has skills that they need. I'm at Idylwilde twice a week or more. It's expensive, but they have the Jessica's bread my family adores and the produce is of very high quality. Avoid the packaged items (chips, bottled tomato sauce, condiments) which are really overpriced. There are two irritations though. The first is that when I buy baskets of figs or strawberries or peaches or other tender fruit, there always seems to be overripe (or in the case of figs, hard as a rock, never to ripen) fruit hidden in the bottom layer. This has happened enough that I make a point of trying to look at what's at the bottom of the basket, even though I was once yelled at by a staff member for doing so. Second, the staff has a tendency to block the aisles when restocking -- at times parking in front of displays so that people cannot get to them, or parking side by side in the aisle so that it's difficult to move around them. The place is crowded enough without these huge carts in the aisles. I understand they need to restock, and one of the appeals of Idylwilde is that the displays are always full and beautiful. All I ask is that staff be aware of what's going on around them so that customers can move through. Still, I will go regularly, spend too much money, and enjoy everything I get from there. read more

Don't plan on Getting any kind of decent customer service at this place. I just tried to return a garden dish filled with beautiful succulents that I had bought their. Unfortunately 2 of the plants in the bull died and they gave me a hard time Two of the plants were dead 7 days later.. Mine were half dead when I got home The man a snarly man in a hoodie jammed his hands into my bowl of plants ruining the ones that were still alive and fine. I was stressed out by this kind of violence. Word to the wise, DON'T RETURN ANYTHING TO THIS STORE! They have mentally unbalanced people working there. We are all suffering in this pandemic. That doesn't make it allowable to upset a handicapped person who was just trying to get three new $5 plants. Avoid this place. They owe me 40 for plants they destroyed right in front of other customers. If you're reading this put that $40 in the Salvation Army red kettle this holiday. read more

The other day I made a special trip to Acton to find this place; a friend shops here whenever she is doing a party or cheese tray, so I decided to head out and see for myself. Before even entering the store I had selected several pots of rosemary and rhubarb to plant. There is not a huge selection of plants at this time of year, but lots of pansies and things that can tolerate the wacky temperature variations of spring in New England. Inside there is a wonderful assortment of gorgeous fruits and vegetables, interesting and unusual brands of pasta, oils, vinegars...you name it. Some stuff is really hard to find, other things I see at Hannaford or Shaw's without the steep prices, so it pays to have some idea of pricing. Cheeses looks delish and I selected several and some pates and terrines. The selection is very good. I bought a loaf of hella good raisin bread by Nashoba something bakers and it is superb. I love me some toasted raisin bread for breakfast. The selection of fresh flowers was great and I had a hard time choosing but finally decided on hot pink wax flowers and white ranunculous. We have been shopping at Idylwilde for almost 30 years. They have, hands down, the best quality produce, meat, fish and baked goods. Good selection of specialty items too. INSANELY overpriced!! Even "Whole Paycheck" doesn't charge $8.99 for a pound of Rainier cherries! And when we found out about an hour later that H-Mart (in Burlington) charges $3.99 a pound for the same Rainier cherries, it became blindingly clear what an outrage Idylwilde Farm is perpetrating on Metro West residents. Lest anyone thinks this $5 difference is a rare exception, compare the per-pound cost of white peaches (also not grown locally): Idylwilde Farm: $2.99; H-Mart: $1.49. Give me a break!! Even pretentiousness and hoity-toity-ness shouldn't cost that much. A $2 / pound mark-up I could've stomached, but FIVE DOLLARS?! Living so close to Idylwilde, I shop here at least twice a week. They have a great selection of produce, a deli counter, a bakery (good French bread, yummy croissants, tasty cookies), flowers, plants, firewood, prepared foods (hot and cold), a wide selection of cheeses, and lots of local stuff (obviously). I love the convenience and the selection. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that sometimes the price is more than you could find elsewhere, but to me, it's sometimes worth the convenience of not trekking all over the place. And you're supporting a local business. They also have picnic tables outside when the weather is nice. read more

We got a gorgeous Christmas tree here! The young men helping with the trees were helpful and polite, and secured it safely to our car roof for us. While there, we popped in for some food shopping and found everything we needed - fresh veggies and fruits, freshly baked bread, meats and a great selection of other goodies. Great local place for groceries and is larger inside than what one might call a "farmstand" - there is a large cheese and deli section, a dairy section, a few freezers, a specialty candy area, besides the several aisles of produce. Not all the produce is locally grown, but they are marked if they are. What I enjoy the most are their prepared foods section - they have an extensive sandwich counter, as well as prepared foods, ranging from chicken marsala to meatless pad thai. I do especially like their Asian freshly prepared foods (I heard they have an Asian "chef", and many staff are Asian). Their meatless pad thai is good, as well as their chicken satay skewers, chicken teriyaki sticks, and vegetable fried rice. It's on the expensive side though, a small thing of pad thai is $5.95, and the small portions of skewers they offer could set you back $8-10. Given there are not many areas for a quick lunch in the area, their sandwich counter gets crowded with orders during business lunch hours.Wish they would set up a more established casual dining area, so that patrons could more comfortably sit and enjoy lunch there. read more

Love, love, love this place! For anyone who enjoys fresh farm grown produce at a reasonable price, this is worth the drive! On top of all their farm grown products, they have a large selection of cheeses, breads, fresh baked cookies, wines, and beers-everything one needs for a picnic! On my last trip I visited the greenhouse and walked out with a lavender plant and a huge plant of ready to eat basil for $6. At my local market, a sad basil plant with a few leaves cost $4. Staff are friendly and attentive without being in the way. Acton is also a beautiful area for a drive! read more

My mom moved to Harvard last year and one time when I was visiting her she dragged me grocery shopping with her. I reluctantly went along and figured I could get some free groceries out of the deal (Thanks Mom)! Seriously this is like the best place on Earth. They had samples galore, an amazing prepared food selection that actually tastes good, and the most candy and baked goods I have ever seen. I was seriously a little kid in a candy store (literally) when I first went in here. I had to have everything, of course since mom was buying I was only allowed the essentials but EVERYTHING look delicious. It's probably a good thing I don't live closer or I would spend so much money here. Great place for specialty items such as baked goods such as scones, pecan rolls, whole grain flax seed rolls. I also like the rather large selection of cheeses and bigger selection of Stash and Twinings tea than the bigger supermarkets. They also have a nice selection of special occasion gift boxes of chocolates from Harbor Sweet, Lake Champlain, etc. There's also a beautiful variety of cut flowers to bump up the works. I would come in mainly for these items, and pick up a couple of dessert items, fruits and produce while I'm there. read more

I'm gradually trying to figure out how to not spend an arm and a leg here, because everything is soooo pretty! I'm trying to avoid their chocolate area and their bakery section when I go... Their selection of Christmas decorations like wreaths and trees were excellent, but it was hard to figure out how to cashwrap them (get a ticket of what you want, pay inside, then pick up outside). It's a very good place to get locally grown fruit and to try new things, like cheeses and exotic fruits. I have started to buy their pre packed bags of steaming greens, carrots, corn, onions and spinach, because the price tags on the bags are pretty reasonable, and it lasts long and is tasty. Their cheese selection has good coverage and is displayed in an island, where you can order deli items. In December, the price on their fresh squeezed OJ from the squeezer machine was almost $8 for a 1/2 gallon! That's psychotic! But I did see someone buy some.... read more

When I go there, I want to cook out of the ordinary things just to use the vast array of fresh meats, vegetables, cheeses, breads and sauces that they carry. Fun place to go. This place deserves four stars on appearance alone. I don't think I've ever been to a neater grocery store than Idylwilde (they seem to have people roaming around perpetually organizing everything). We go here for the vegetables, fruit, cider, and deli. It's akin to a miniature Russo's (from Waltham) out in Acton. Just like that store, beware of the weekend rush at Idylwilde. Oh and I have to agree with the other Yelp reviewer about the fancy jarred tomato sauces, $10+ per jar is a bit rich. +1 for carrying DeCecco Orreciette. Also, Idylwilde accepts credit cards, but not American Express. read more

This is the place to get fresh produce and baked goods. Everyday except Tuesday (they are closed Tuesday) I get coffee on my way to work! They have great coffee. My only complaint is they are in general expensive, a large coffee is nearly $3. Is it worth it, probably not, however I will continue to come back out of convenience and reliablity. read more

I have mixed reviews on this place. I want to give 5 stars to the employees, 4 stars for the food and produce and 0 stars to the owner! Today I was there purchasing several items when I heard a man at the garden, flower section of the store telling two woman ..."I do not want to hear you two girls chirping any other language than english. You are in America and I want to hear you speak english." His tone was derogatory and patronizing! The employee, I could see, was trying her best to be very nice about the entire thing and agreed to only speak english.The owner saw me with my cart and knew I was listening but did not seem to care. When he left I asked another employee (American) who that was and she said an owner. I told her I could not believe what I had just heard and witnessed. She said he talks that way to the employees all the time and she has told him he's going to get into trouble someday talking like that. read more

I had forgotten what an absolute gem this place is since leaving town a few years ago. I was recently in the area and stopped at Idylwilde Farms to pick up some fresh fruit and veggies. It is just so much better than anything you can buy from the local supermarket it doesn't even come close. Yes it's expensive but you get what you pay for and here you get fresh tasting vegetables and fruit that just have no comparison. I only wish they would expand and have another store in my area but for now I'll make the trip to come back here, sooner than later.
