Service was great. She came by pretty quickly and food was out quick too. I ordered the taco dorados one chicken and one beef. However both came as beef. They were good just the crunch and combo I was craving. I also ordered the shrimp tostada. Here's where I was disappointed. The tostada had mayonnaise which I was not expecting. I did not like it however my son liked it . This may be on preference. The shrimp tostada also had imitation crab, it is not all shrimp, it's a nice serving. The ambiance is Mexican style with high bar table or low chair seating. My son ordered the beef green sauce chimichanga and said it was good. Total came to $47 with tip ($6). read more

Very exciting crowd. When there is karaoke, they sing and dance and are very energetic.

This feels so divey for being in the heart of the city, so I had to check it out! What I like: Where else in downtown are you going to see a packed house of folks singing karaoke on a *weekend*? It's also fun seeing the wide array of tastes in their usual crowd, with some wanting classic rock ballads while others just want to stick to corridos. They also have food here, and one time I got myself some enjoyable mini chimis! What needs work: This feels like one of the only establishments on the block without a liquor license. Virtually the only choices are domestic beers and a couple of basic Mexican imports. And while I'd like to try more of the food, their kitchen's hours are limited and unpredictable. One evening, I tried to stop here for dinner and they were like "Oh no, kitchen closes at 6". And the next time, I stopped for lunch and they told me "oh our cook isn't here today, sorry!" They don't really seem to care about the food. Overall, I appreciate this is something a bit different you can do on Congress. But it's far from perfect, so unless you're planning on singing with a small group of your friends you'll probably have more fun elsewhere. read more

This is basically a Mexican restaurant/dive bar/karaoke place in the heart of downtown. I went there for dinner two days ago. I had the special of the day, fish tacos with rice and beans. When I asked for salsa, she brought bottles of Tapatio and some kind of habanero salsa, nothing homemade. The food was OK, the price reasonable. (I forget if it was $12 or $14.) Walked in to an almost empty bar and immediately recognized it for its "dive bar" quality. A small menu and no free chips and salsa (admit it, we don't need it) led me to a huge, Beef chimichanga and 2 draft, Modelo's for a total of $25.00 They apparently have Karaoke, which thankfully I wasn't privy to but they did have a nice selection of music playing that kept the mood. read more

We are staying in Tucson for vacation 1500 miles from home. We went downtown to find something to eat we couldn't get at home and we found it. We love "hole-in-the-wall" places and this one is a gem. We brought our three kids for lunch and it was fast and easy, but absolutely delicious. The nachos grande were drizzled with a heavenly green sauce we thought would be guacamole, but was a bit thin. Upon tasting, it was a delicious tangy sauce that tasted fresh and perfectly complemented the richness of the beans and beef. My kids LOVED the nachos and we found ourselves sneaking a few bites as well. The Chile Colorado my husband ordered was also fantastic. I had Beef Tacos and the beef was tender and juicy inside my house-fried taco shell. It was so tender and juicy, it was almost reminiscent of pot roast. If you're not afraid of restaurants that don't have a perfect facade and are willing to give a place a chance, come here. read more

I normally avoid going downtown because of the horrible parking situation. But today, I decided to bite the bullet to give one of the restaurants downtown a try for a quick lunch. I landed at the Iguana Cafe. It is not a fancy place. In fact if they had not had signs in the window with pictures of food, I would have assumed it was just a dive bar. I decided on the Chicken Burrito with green enchilada sauce. It was very tasty. You could taste the heat just a bit, but my no means was it spicy hot. It was packed full of shredded chicken. I sat at the bar and was checked on several times by the waitress and the owner. It was obvious that most of those in the shop were regulars and that is who they cater to. I thought the price was reasonable for what you got (my experience is that downtown tends to up price for the privilege of being downtown). I would have liked a side of rice and or beans. I saw that it was listed under a Side order heading and I would probably do that next time. I am not bar hopper, so I asked what sodas they had, and she started rattling off the list. She barely got started when she said RC. I stopped her because it is my favorite but not common in Tucson. All in all a fine experience. This is not a place I would take a date and it is really rough and not impressive, but it was a fine for a quick bite. I wouldn't mind coming back sometime again for lunch. read more

We used to be o go to this bar even though it was a tad "different" but tonight we were very disappointed. As soon as we walked on the young lady that was the bar tender was very rude and not willing to service. We put Mexican music on the jukebox and she told use to turn it down. It was obvious that she was catering to the regulars that went to the bar. Francisco the old bar tender would treat everyone as equal and would let people have have. As someone who lives a block away from this bar I feel that this young lady is very rude and not willing to cater to people who go are willing to pay and stimulate the economics of downtown tucson. read more

OK - it's a given that the Iguana isn't as fancy as the rest of the places on Congress. No, you're aren't going to find a mixologist behind the bar with homemade ginger syrup and you aren't going to find a 5 star chef in the kitchen. What you are going to find is cool regulars, a jukebox that blasts the favorites, nice cold beer and a pretty tasty menu. If there could be a negative 5 rating I would hesitate to use is! This has been the worst place I have ever eaten like ever! The service was excellent very attentive fast and friendly but once they brought the food out it was like you gotta be kidding me. They had this garnish which consisted of a pinch of lettuce with two....TWO slices of jalapenos. They served a tiny cup of Pace salsa which gives you the runs when you mix it with flour tortillas. best chimichangas around and the manager and his staff are very friendly ordered there yesterday after noon chimichanga and a sprite with lemon the chimichanga was made perfectly fryed all around the red chili perfect the meat was cut in big chunks through out and also the shredded meat through out the sour cream was placed in a flower shape 3 to be exact in shapes of flowers and the way they did it they had to use the cake decorating funnel tube which is an awesome useage of this item on chimichangas the waitress was very helpful to log in there password on my cell phone to get their free wii fi due to my eyes are bad i love this place alejandros has nothing on iguana cafe with their chimichanga fryed on top and not completly through out meat so small in cube like pieces the red chilli tasted like it was watered down mixed with tomato paste /cyanne pepper/chili pepper had this from them this morning at alejandros to go because i had to go to work so i had it to go and when i got it there was no sour cream only lettuce and 4 pieces of small cubed tomatoes i asked for chips and salsa the chips were not salted and the salsa for the chips were watered down i would not recomend alejandros to my worst enemy they dont even have a public rest room unlike the iguana great service great food rest rooms for the custumers as well all restaurants should have read more
