An IHOP experience is usually was it is. A general American diner experience. We had a table of six early morning Thanksgiving. The staff was very helpful to our questions, very nice to talk to, and even took our group photo. Food was decent and I did eat all of mine! The French toast stack was MASSIVE though, we weren't ready for the size. My partner loved it, saved some, and ate it again for another two meals. Nothing crazy to talk about but always a chill time to get some quick breakfast, talk to friends and family, and drink a nice cup of joe. Thank you to the very gracious wait staff though. I don't know why this location got so many bad reviews. My experience was exceptionally perfect. We were being seated 2 minutes after we entered, the menu is interesting and looks delicious, hostess was attending, our food came out within 10 minutes. We ordered egg benedict and a crepe. I was surprised that the presentation of the foods are exactly the same as the pictures on the menu. The hash brown is perfectly done, not greasy, moist inside and crispy outside. Both egg benedict and crepe are good, not too salty and not too sweet. This is about 9:30 am on Monday, one hostess is serving 4 tables . I am not sure whether same quality is available during a much busier hour, but my experience is an enjoyable one. We both were satisfied and happy with our breakfast and coffee. read more

When my wife and I walked in the restaurant we were greeted and sat down. went to the booth and sank down all the way to to the framing of the booth not very comfortable. Look around the restaurant and noticed all sorts of water spots on the ceiling tiles which could be growing mold on the other side of them. It has been a really long time since we've been in, just because our previous experiences have been pretty lackluster. We were pleased to walk in and see they had just undergone a renovation. It actually looks nice now. No dirty carpet (honestly, I'm not sure why any dining establishment would want carpet) and a fresher look throughout. The assistant manager (I missed her name, but she was Jamaican, and the SWEETEST thing ever... seriously, THESE are the employees you should treasure and do whatever it is to keep them, because THEY are the ones that will keep customers returning) is the one that took our order and served us, and then we had a conversation with her as she checked us out at the front register. I ordered pancakes and extra crispy bacon - and it completely hit the spot. The bacon was perfect and my pancakes were tasty. Worst breakfast in town. We've been to other Ihop locations that were really good, but the Elgin was a new one for us today and it was just awful. We asked for crispy hash browns and they were only cooked on one side. The eggs were ordered over medium and came with hard yokes. They don't put salt and pepper, jelly, sugar or cream on the tables. You have to ask for all of it and then they bring salt and pepper paper packets instead of salt and pepper shakers. The server was really attentive and good, but everything else was crap. read more

She was sweet, thoughtful, helpful, and very accomodating! She was one of a kind. She had such a warm smile, I felt genuinely wanted as a customer. Food: hot chocolate, loaded country potato and bacon soup, chicken and waffles, appetizer sampler, and country fried steak with hasbrowns, scrambled eggs, and pancakes. The meal was what could be expected of IHOP entrees, just delicious enough. The chicken and waffles has always been my go-to and it never disappoints! Overall: I always appreciate IHOP's taste, price, and hours. I have experienced all sorts of IHOP services, and Elgin's Maria was the absolute best! Basically just sausage and potatoes. No eggs, no cheese. There might be a pepper or maybe it's just some unknown green substance. The hubby and I decided to head for a quick breakfast on our day off. We were promptly seated and given clean menus. This is a good thing since they're usually sticky and gross. Our served Malik quickly took our order and put it in. Our meal took slightly longer than we expected but it wasn't a big deal. We received our food and it was a good temperature. The exception was the hubby's pancakes. I wish all restaurants made sure patrons were served hot pancakes off the griddle. (Note to the servers: we want hot pancakes!) A nightmare. Came in for breakfast, waited 15 mins to be sat. It's a Sunday morning, so that was expected, but there wasn't even a hostess there. Eventually a woman who we presumed was a manager came by and started organizing the chaos, but by then the entire lobby area was full. Whatever. Then, when we were finally seated, a waitress came over, took our drink orders (both waters, very simple) and we had our food orders ready as well. We then waited for almost an hour before our waitress even stopped by again. No food ever came out. I sat with an empty glass of water for an hour. Eventually, the waitress came by and we had to REORDER! I presume she just forgot to put our order in. Unacceptable. The restaurant wasn't even nearly full and I barely saw the server on the floor at all. I have been managing restaurants since I was 18 and normally I'm very understanding, but 3 or 4 tables were sat, ordered, were served, and closed out before we even got our food. My son has been telling me about IHOP and I haven't been in years. So we decided to go today as there was a location near where we had an appointment this morning. As we drove up I told him that I thought it was closed. It looked like there were no lights on and the place was empty. There were also no cars in the parking lot. We still thought we would give it a try. We walked in at 8:30 AM and it was empty. We were the only ones there. A hostess/server immediately showed us to a table. She asked what we wanted to drink. I had brought my own coffee but she advised me that no outside drinks were allowed. I was like no problem so I ordered a coffee, my son a milkshake (I know a milkshake for breakfast!) and went outside to put my cup in the car. I came back and she was already working on making the milkshake. She came back 5 minutes later with the coffee and shake and asked if we were ready to order. I noticed that there was someone who appeared to be waiting for a table for several minutes while she was in back so I told her that it was ok to seat the customer and come back. So she walked over to the guy standing there who told her about how he needed a job and money. The conversation went on for 5 minutes while we were sitting there waiting to order our food. At 8:40 she came back to take our order. She apologized. My son ordered a pancake combo meal and I ordered an omelet. The server walked into the kitchen and started having a conversation with the cook. We waited and waited. Another sever showed up for work about 10 minutes later. Then 6 women walked in to have breakfast but left after 5 minutes since nobody came to take their order. Then a woman came in who was waiting for someone so didn't order as well. We continued to wait. Our server never came back to the table to check on us or ask if I needed a refill on my coffee. We literally sat there for 30 minutes. At 9:10 we realized that even without our food order we had to leave for an appointment. I walked back to the kitchen and told our server that we had to leave. She asked if we were certain as our food was ready to be served. I told her that we were late. She literally took another 5 minutes to pack up our breakfast and walked it over to the cash register where I paid. We ended up eating our breakfast cold an hour later. We went in for the Grinch promotion tonight - there are posters and marketing materials at every booth. My boys and I saw the movie and they were excited. When we got there we waited in the cold lobby and after 5 minutes, a woman came out and told - "it will be 10 minutes before I seat you, I'm on the only one on the floor". This made no sense as it was cold in the lobby and we could have easily sat inside a warmer booth but ...we did as she asked. When we finally got seated among all the Grinch material, we asked for the Grinch selections and she said "we're all sold out". How hard could it have been not to keep green dye and red sprinkles? Seriously - the Grinch is EVERYWHERE - and yet you can't any Grinch pancakes??? Everything took forever - because she was the only waitress on the floor and was also the cashier. It looked like there was one person in the kitchen. This was at 6:30, the height of the dinner hour. The food was meh...we went with burgers. My son's hamburger came with cheese when I specifically said "no cheese". We took it easy on her and tipped her the same because it's not her fault the place was so poorly staffed and the Grinch promotion was sold out but my 9 year old made me promise - we'll never, ever go back. read more

This place needs some serious help. The only thing it has going for it, is that it's 24 hours. The stake and shake across the street is closed. We got there late in the night. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with we are out of french fries we are out of onion rings and a whole long list of other things. Pretty much felt like the guy wanted us to turn around and leave. Being that we are all hungry we decided to stay and eat what we could. Two of us ordered breakfast food and two of us ordered cheeseburgers. The food took a very long time to come out considering we were the only table in the whole place. When It did come out the breakfast portions were cold. I'm guessing they cooked those first and then had to wait on the cheeseburgers. Very disappointing. Hopefully they get it together. read more
