My mother loves IHOP, but I've never really been a fan--especially because I'm a pancake lover who prefers them thin, not thick and fluffy like IHOP's. But I took her to the location on Warwick Blvd in Denbigh for a treat. We both ordered the 55+ menu: Her meal was $7.99 for scrambled eggs with cheese, hash browns, toast, and sausage. But then it was 99¢ extra for cheese, almost $5 for two extra sausage links, and $3.50 for a coffee. My meal was the 55+ French toast (supposed to come with sausage), but they charged me $1.99 for sausage anyway. I also ordered two eggs with cheese on the side--another $5. And my coffee? $3.50 too. I ordered three pancakes with strawberries for my nephew to take home--about $10.50. All in all, the meal came out to about $52 before the tip. Now you tell me--how does a $7.99 and $9.99 meal, plus one pancake meal with 3 pancakes with sauce, turn into $52? Most wait staff will recommend a better deal but I didn't know that they had a $6 or $7 special with everything I wanted and couldn't see good as I didn't have my glasses with me. My mom even warned me beforehand that IHOP "nickels and dimes you" with all the add-ons--and she was not wrong. Yes, the food was good. But it was not $52 good. Not for breakfast. Not for two. So I let her know--next time we're going Tommy's, Byrd's, or somewhere local. Other folks can take her to IHOP, but it won't be me anymore. read more

I waited over 30 mins for a togo order that the app said was ready and on the way to my car. I called to see what the hold up was and the person asked if i could come in to get it even though it was a carside order. I'm like, umm i booked carside for a reason. He said he couldn't leave his post and i made a deal out of it so 5 mins later a manager brought my food out. Food was hot and good but i was annoyed with the process. Carside orders should never have to come inside due to short staffing. That's y'all problem not mine. And had i never called, i wouldn't never got my order. Just returned home from having dinner at this I HOP. They rec'd one star because there were no "zero" stars. Meal was OK. What put me off was a member of the kitchen staff with his pants at "half mast". This may be fashionable in some circles, but I don't go out to see another man's underwear, AND there was a long loogie hanging from the urinal in the mens' room. The water faucet in the kitchen was still spewing water, just like last year. What an un appetizing dump. Worst place in Newport News!, downright un-sanitary! The food is as good as any chain restaurant provides. What matters most is the food came out warm and in a timely manner. The bathroom could use a deep cleaning, but wasn't terribly dirty and didn't take away from the dining experience. We would come back again. read more

Jefferson location is always so crowded, food always takes forever to come & this location makes it definitely worth the drive every time. Off the back, went on a Sunday morning pulled up & the parking lot wasn't full. Service was good, staff was friendly, and the food was nice hot & fresh. I ordered steak tips w/ egg whites & oreo packages. The food came out within 15-20 minutes nice & hot and everything was correct. Even though this is a "basic" breakfast restaurant the food tasted fresh, got & well seasoned. Definitely would recommend this location, if you are in the area. read more

My kids both love IHOP, however it's not usually my first choice due to service being a hit and miss. The food can also be spotty too, this chain can really vary on both. When out of town for one of my son's swim meets this often is our first choice because I know he will eat well. This IHOP has a Newport Address and is within just miles of the gate of Ft. Eustis where my son swam this meet. I would call this place off the beaten path, but easy to find off the main road of Warwick. I hit this IHOP up after the conclusion of a swim final. It was around 9 PM and pretty dead. We were seated immediately and had a party of four, three were children. With everyone so hungry we told the waitress that we wanted to order when coming to ask for drinks. The waitress was very nice, especially to the children. I did not notice one table that was not cleared and the floors were free from debris. I felt confident that this IHOP was being managed well based on what I saw. Drinks quickly came out and our waitress informed us the food was being rushed out of the kitchen. Under 15 minutes our food was out, it was hot and the kids loved there pancakes. I too enjoyed my dish as well as my other adult friend. A quick follow up by our waitress was done and appreciated. The bill came out quickly on request and was accurate. Our waitress asked if we needed to any to go boxes, or coffee to go which was appreciated. I was impressed with the service and thought the food was above average. This was a solid visit, however sometimes you never know what the difference would be if a place was busy and even slammed. WHEN DID I SAY LEMONADE. We hadn't seen him so I had to call someone else's attention and was told the server would be told the correct drinks. He came back without drinks and said "unsweet tea?" ‍ I replied with what we wanted. He came back with the correct drinks and I saw an AirPod in his ear. Instantly knew this wasn't going to be a pleasant outing. We ordered and I really thought that anything else couldn't go wrong. My fiancé ordered the big steak omelette(no customization) and I ordered a BELGIAN WAFFLE combo(2 eggs scrambled with cheese, hash-browns, choice of 2 sausage or 2 bacon. I asked for bacon and then a side of 2 sausage because I wanted both). Saw him one time before our food finally came out (drinks were low) and he said the food would be out in a moment. My fiancé got his meal piping hot. My meal was of course room temp and WRONG. I got served pancakes, 1 egg no cheese, 1 sausage link and 1 bacon piece. I looked at this meal like my whole life had been a lie. No way was I paying $15 for something I didn't order. I told him what it was supposed to be and he came back 5 times 3 times each with a plate of food ‍ first plate was 2 bacon, second was 2 sausage and the third plate was 2 eggs with cheese. Mind you each arrival was 3+ minutes apart. Was I supposed to just let the food in front of me get cold while I wait for the rest?? He brought back double so I ended up with more food than I could even eat but felt like I had to eat it or else I wasn't valid to complain. After he brought the last plate he put the check on the table and we never saw him again. We needed refills. But I decided I didn't even want to be in the building anymore. So now we needed drinks to go and a box. Waited hoping we could spot him. No luck. My fiancé had to stand up and a lady came over to ask if he needed anything. FINALLY got our stuff, paid and left. Dining in, good. Ordering take-out from.... not so great. I don't care for their non-breakfast items, but their breakfast items are tasty. I used to love some of their seasonal stuff. And we got take-out from them many times without problems....and then they started forgetting to give me toppings. I'd often get pancakes or French toast with some kind of fruit topping and they just... didn't give it. Then I ordered a crepe one day and, not only were the toppings missing, but it was a very poor excuse for a crepe. It was just depressing to look at. The next time, I got French toast from them. Normally go here for breakfast on Saturday. Went for breakfast at night tonight. What a waste of $$$. After telling them we did not want there plant/pseudo-sausage (they tried to give it to us before and charged us even though we didn't order it) and it was nasty. Wasn't going to do that again. I guess they can't get rid of it and hope people won't notice they didn't ask for it or notice the almost $3 upcharge for something they didn't order. 1st waitress took our order - then disappeared and a second waitress showed up. She took our order again. Didn't get the toast. Got the pancakes but no syrup (after asking 3 times). Finally the manager came out and all of a sudden they had turkey sausage, "but it has to be cooked". No coffee after asking 3 times. But the waitress had time to socialize with another table. So after two waitresses and one manager, we still didn't get our food. And they had 3 tables in the whole restaurant to wait on. Total of 6 adults and 2 kids over 3 tables - and still couldn't get it together. Wonder why just 3 tables in the whole restaurant? Maybe this is a clue. IF we go back, it will be in the morning only. I called like the email tells you to do but they acted like I was wrong for calling them and that they would contact me and I'm supposed to know that. I've stopped ordering from here a while back due to a lack of service actually picking up the phone and or online option has been tunred off. I prefer ordering my food for pick-up. I've stopped going and decided after some time to try them again and they're still having those issues. I went in and decided to make the order to go, in person, and the waitress was going to seat me, which I declined. I had informed her that I was taking it to go and she had then told me she was going to get help and turned around and went to the kitchen and I stood there and watched her continue to put orders together in the kitchen. My order was never taken and the restaurant itself wasn't busy. You would think with the lack of staff and guests,​ that they would try and find some way to get business, even if it is just a pick-up vs a sit and dine option. Which is ridiculous that not​ a single soul can answer a dang phone. I've called, back to back 5-6 times, and not a soul is capable of picking up a phone.
