This place was quick to seat us and quick to deliver our food. Our waitress was very nice which is an upgrade from our last visit. The food is what it is. It hits the spot especially after midnight. Today I got the red velvet pancakes combo with eggs over easy, sausage, and hash browns. Everything was cooked to order but the red velvet pancakes were more pink, they weren't fluffy, and the icing was super sweet which I don't mind. I don't care if it's a chain. There's a reason there's a line out the door every weekend. IHOP has some good grub and the staff is always friendly. During the week kids eat free in the evening, one kid per adult., so that's usually when we go since it's not very busy and it's cheap. Who doesn't love breakfast for dinner? Ehhh, I know not to expect much from a chain restaurant, and believe me I don't, but the service was pretty terrible when we had stopped in. Now don't get me wrong, Ihop is awesome. Breakfast anytime you want? That's a win/win situation for me, and honestly the review is not based on the food at all, which was actually really tasty (sucker for red velvet pancakes!). It was the service that I found to be completely sub-par and made the visit that much less enjoyable. It all started when we were waiting to be seated. There were two girls at the front. We were welcomed very warmly, and one girl said "She will seat you guys, I need to go clean windows" We were fine with it, the girl grabbed two menus and we followed. Upon arriving to our table the waitress said to us, and I'm not sure why, "She didn't really have to wash windows, she just didn't want to do her job", smiled and the walked away. Awkwardly I laughed and then just shrugged off the unnecessary information that was just given to me about her co-worker. The person who took our order was really nice, she had first asked what we wanted to drink to which we both said water and gave us some time to explore the array of pancakes and other delicious breakfast items. Now it was busy there, I won't deny that, and I do take into consideration that things will take a bit longer to get and its completely understandable, but it was a good solid 10minutes before we even received our water. We had debated on whether or not to stay, because, at that point, weren't sure if she even remembered we were there. The drinks came, we placed our order and then the waiting game began once again. Now, it wouldn't of bothered me terribly for waiting, if it wasn't for the fact that two other people were seated shortly after we had placed our drink order, had their drink order taken and given under 5minutes and then had placed their order for food. They also had received their food way before we did. If i didn't see that, probably would not of cared that much, but every server seemed to be covering a lot of tables that morning, and it just felt that we got lost in the shuffle. Alas our food had finally arrived, it tasted great, no complaints there. Our server was definitely quick to hand us the bill, but everything else took such a long time to get. She seemed to be more preoccupied with other patrons than us. I have eaten at this location numerous times over the years and it is still my favorite location in Hampton Roads. This trip I was with a friend and it was about 9:30 at night and we really needed some food. I love that I can get breakfast all day but this time I mixed it up by ordering some savory crepes... chicken Florentine to be exact. Delicious I may add. My friend veered away from her norm of the Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity and went with the turkey and bacon sandwich. I wasn't sure that would be a smart move but it turned out to be a good choice. She was very happy with her sandwich. The only issue had was that it took about 30 minutes to get our food. In IHOP's defense, they were really busy for 9:30 at night. This location stays busy. Corporate chain or no, I had a great (and very late) brunch on a Sunday night here. Prior to this, I hadn't been to an IHOP in nearly ten years, and was skeptical about the food. I was wrong, though. They've obviously gone to great lengths to provide healthy options on their menu. Legitimate ones, too, not just one or two bland salads, but easily a dozen options: whole wheat pancakes, low-fat omelettes loaded with veggies, and the option for a fruit bowl on the side instead of pancakes, to name a few. The setting, while looking Midwest Corporate, was cozy due to the warm lighting and intimacy of the well-divided booths in the section in which we were seated. The group directly adjacent to us was nearly inaudible, even in a quiet place with soft 50s/60s music playing in the background. Our server was almost alarmingly courteous and friendly. I drank at least five glasses of water (I was thirsty as all get-out) and never ran dry. I ordered the Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity, which, for $8, wasn't bad at all. Two each of eggs, sausage links, and bacon rashers, as well as two pancakes topped with sweetened fruit and whipped cream. All were cooked perfectly and delivered quickly. The pancakes were of special note. On my last visit (in another state, a decade ago) I was greatly perturbed by the mealy, dense discs they were pawning off as pancakes. The heavenly circles I recieved were light, fluffy, and with the perfect amount of chewiness and stretch. The syrups were much better in flavor than I remember, too. An unimpeachable pancake (seriously, they don't offer peaches). Not fancy, just faultless. My co-diner's omelette I "sampled" was likewise delicious, faultless, and plate-obscuringly huge. The fruit bowl was obviously the frozen fruit mix from Sysco (pineapple, honeydew, and somewhat bitter oranges), not fresh, so points off there. The standard coffee was good, though. It may seem ridiculous to write an entire essay on a trip to IHOP, but I was really that surprised at how much the place exceeded my expectations. I almost don't feel bad for skipping the Egg Bistro the day before. I gave IHOP another shot, and I'm glad I did. read more

Food didnt sit well both myself and husband felt very odd after eating, perhaps the food or eggs were not cooked correctly. Amazing customer service!! Stopped in for a togo order and the customer service was the best I've received from an IHOP in years!! I was in my car waiting for the food and the manager brought out my meal to my car. I needed to go in for an extra sauce and someone that appeared to be off the clock stepped in to help me out because the person and the togo stand was busy. This IHOP is pretty good, all things considered. They are kid friendly and the service is adequate. Our children love the place because they can try different flavors of syrup. The prices are a bit high for the quality of the food, though. However, they are set by the IHOP corporate office and this restaurant has no control over that. read more

We were seated this morning with 3 other adults and a 2 year old. They were moderately busy, but no more than a typical Saturday mid-morning. We had a waitress that seemed she couldn't be bothered by us, like we were an inconvenience. Extremely inattentive. Took 20 minutes to get our drinks to us and waited another 40 minutes before we decided enough was enough. The manager never apologized and simply said "we are busy". She said they were done with half our food. HALF! Like we were going to sit there for another hour waiting for the second half to get done. If the busboys and hostesses were the waitresses, we would have gotten our food in record time. By the time we left, it was lunch time and we went out for lunch instead. My service with my waitress was great, I can't remember her name( short black hair with bangs) so was the guy bussing tables. My experience was great until I spotted an older waitress (she has a raspy voice, red hair maybe brunette with red in it) stuck her hand hand, with no gloves, in some chocolate chips and dropped them on someone's pancake. We're in the middle of a major pandemic and she had the audacity to do that. I wish I had gotten her name to report her but she never came back out from the back before I left. I wish the was an option for 4 1/2 stars! I've been to plenty of IHOP's and I would say this is probably the best one yet. It was that time of morning were the breakfast rush was just winding down so I was sat pretty quickly but it took my server a minute to get to me. I didn't mind this because she still acknowledged me and I wasn't in any hurry. When she came to get my order she offered me their breakfast special. It was $4.99 for 2 eggs, 2 bacon (I think you may have also had a choice of sausage), and 2 pancakes. I passed because I was in the mood for something a little different. But I think it's a great deal. So for my drink I ordered the gingerbread hot chocolate which I must say was amazing! It was $2.99 and well worth it. It came in a huge much and the whip cream they put on top is the real deal. It was think and firm and delicious! It was like Christmas in a cup! For my meal I ordered the French toast breakfast. I had some special requests and the server got them all right. My only complaint is that my eggs were just a little over done. Still perfectly yummy though. I asked for well done hash browns and they were crispy just the way I like them! It was a great breakfast. Had those eggs been on point this would be a 5 Star review. I ordered the 2-2-2 deal at approximately 12:30 PM on Thursday. I had not eaten anywhere else, including at my home, during the day in question. When I returned to the restaurant afterwards to inform them about the situation, both the manager and the owner refused to accept any responsibility nor refund any of my money (Bill was ONLY $6.68). The owner then inferred that it may have been alcohol related (I don't drink alcohol). They did not apologize nor offer any discount or refund, then quickly asked me to leave the premises indicating the police would be called if I didn't leave. I then offered to wait for the police outside, but they never actually came. Very bad business etiquette. I will never eat there again, not because of the presumed food poisoning, but because of their attitude toward me when I informed of myself getting sick. VBHD and VHD were notified of the issue. I hope this message may help someone else avoid this horrible IHOP & restaurateur. read more

I've eaten at this particular location several times a year over the last three years. I have never had a problem with service or quality of food. I decided to go to IHOP for dinner with my autistic son -- we had not been out to eat during the whole COVID 19 - 2020 year. We walked into IHOP @ 6:07pm -- was seated at 6:12pm(by Monique) -- she seated us in the back room that was COLD(the AC was on and it was 49 degrees outside/SMH) still no server @ 6:27pm... in the meantime the 2 servers in that back room never looked over at my table to say I will be right with you or nothing. I had to get up to ask for a manager (Patricia), at that time we were only offered drinks and Patricia stated to us your server will be right with you -- our order was taken by another server from the front of the restaurant(only saw her 1 time, she never checked back to see if we needed anything our drinks were watered down and empty by then). Our order arrived to our table, I had no appetite at that time so I asked for a to-go box. I have been to this location when they were much more crowded than tonight and had much better service. From walking into the restaurant until the minute we walked out the door was NOT a good experience -- Patricia alleged she call the GM while i was in the restaurant and gave her(GM) my name and telephone # (waiting to hear from GM). I usually go to this ihop once a week. The food is always hot and honestly the only problem is one particular waiter. I went on a Tuesday because it's a special of buy one entree with a drink and get the second entree at equal or lesser price for free. I was promptly put at a table and a tall African American waiter came and told me he'll be with me right away. I proceeded to look at the menu and I'm not even exaggerating but he didn't come back for about 20 minutes! (I checked the time on my phone.) when he came back he had a nasty attitude, rolling his eyes while asking what I wanted to drink and if I was ready to order. I placed my order and waited another 15 minutes for him to bring my drink. I'm starting to get irritated because it wasn't even busy. The food finally came and it tasted very good. The problem was he brought the damn check to me 5 minutes later and say I can pay up front...LMAO! I just got my food but whatever, I ate it then proceeded to pay. The thing was as soon as I finished, he came right away to clean the plates, literally took the last bite and he was there. This waiter always does this because I've had him before and he is absolutely terrible at his job. If you come to this ihop and receive this African American male waiter, I suggest you ask for another waiter. He's tall and has a mustache. EXTREMELY TERRIBLE WAITER. Out of all the iHop's I've been to, this one is "home" for me. Not just because it's close to my home, but because I've ALWAYS loved the service here. I normally do not eat at IHOP because of bad experiences before. But, I went on Sunday morning before the rush and I will be coming back to this location. We were sat all the way in the back and we didn't complain because we were very happy with that. I ordered something new and I will be getting that again. Most IHOP places make your scrambled eggs runny with no seasoning, not this location, I ate almost all my food, my boyfriend ate all his and so did my dad. The waitress was amazing and never hovered.
