One of the best coffee shops I have been to in a while: 1) Location - Very easy to find, small parking lot but lots of street parking in the area (just be mindful most if it is 1hr parking) 2) Coffee: Delicious, they truly take their time in perfecting your order and make the extra effort of bringing it to your table. 3)Service: Superb, I got to speak with the owner, wonderful guy, great personality, has good vision and a great plan for the upgrade of the business. 4)Decor: Art work done by high school students, quite impressive. I finally stopped in to try their coffee and get a bite for brunch. I'd suggest coming down Delmas from San Carlos and parking on the left side of the street. There are usually lots of spaces. Their house coffee is nice, dark and strong - more on par with Peets than Starbucks - which is a plus in my book. I ordered their egg & steak bagel sandwich, which was very yummy with caramelized onions. I Java Cafe is pretty much on the outskirts of downtown and although I would love to say that it is, it isn't walking distance from many of the larger buildings in downtown. Street parking only, so parking can be difficult but I haven't had too much trouble too far out of the 3-4 times I have been. The selection of food and drinks they have is excellent and they have a wide variety of breakfast items as well as lunch items. I love their tiger spiced chai! So far that is my favorite out of all the drinks I have had. The spicy mayan mocha is very good but I wish it was a bit "spicier" because the chocolate from the mocha is very rich/dark so it masks a lot of the spiciness IMO. This may be why I liked the Tiger Spiced Chai so much because Chai is so much lighter you can taste the spice in addition to the already spicy undertones of chai. I also have had the straight lattes here and they are good as well. Not the best I have ever had and so far they have been inconsistent. First time I got a latte with 2% milk? it was made well and balanced. Today however the first sip I took was like a punch in the face. And even Momo E. agreed it was strong. Although inconsistency is not favorable I figure its Hump Day and life goes on! As for food I have tried the eggplant panini (mixed greens with a bit of balsamic, pesto, eggplant, cheese, tomatoes on good wholesome focaccia), croissant special (egg, cheese, tomato, and fresh avocado *you can add turkey bacon from $1.50*), and the red sea bagel (hummus, fresh avocado, tomatoes, sundried tomatoes). My favorite out of these was by far the eggplant panini very well balanced and the quality of focaccia was very good. I have only tried one of the smaller baked goods they have available and that was the pumpkin cream cheese muffin which was decent but definitely not worth the price. Although my experience with the baked goods section wasn't as good as it was with the food at I Java Cafe I do believe that the prices for food and baked goods is quite expensive. Momo E. and I paid just over $20 for the Red Sea bagel, Croissant Special, Medium Latte and a Medium Spicy Mayan Mocha. WHHHAATTTT? damn. Breakfast just cost me more than the last 2 lunches we have had. Another negative about I Java Cafe is the hours. They aren't open past 5:30pm ever. And some days they close at 3pm!?? I get that they are a locally owned business but just like restaurants cafes have rough hours. And if I Java Cafe wants to succeed and survive in this economy I think they will need to keep its doors open longer. This I think would draw more students and after work crowds. Then if they like the place it becomes more than just the chill study place its the chill and hang out place. Anyways enough with my rant basically the hours here blow. There have been many a time where I debated on coming but then scrapped the idea because it was too close to close. On the up side service is excellent! Sandra is super nice and instantly makes you feel welcome. Wifi is also free here and ACTUALLY WORKS....unlike AHEM AHEM *crema* AHEM. You just need to ask Sandra or whoever is working for the password. Yup, overall I Java Cafe is pretty sweet but I do think they will need to do a better job on pricing especially with so many other options in the area. I usually only come here for coffee and a treat, but I've never been disappointed. I occasionally come and work on my laptop when I need a change of scenery. The ambiance of the cafe is quaint and pleasant; it's cozy, the music is always good, the staff is friendly and there's a huge menu. Most recently I ordered a pistachio specialty (which was just a fancy latte, but SO yummy!) A plus for this spot is the location, tucked away in a mostly residential area. I am a true lover of coffee places. Why, I even own a guide to coffee bars in SF. Coffee is serious bidness, people. Which is why I had to check this place out immediately. First things first. Yes, the parking does suck. Two spots in front, two spots on the side. The parking lot in the back belongs to the hair salon. Don't even think about parking there. The good stuff. Seriously cool and comfy seating. Beautiful wood floor. Lots of light. The cashier should be the poster girl for customer service, unbelievably polite. She was the only one working and she hustled. I Java has an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. I opted to go simple. I figure if a place can do simple well, then I'm on to something. A medium drip coffee and a bagel with butter and strawberry jam was the order. Since I was eating in, my coffee was served in a heavy glass mug. It was strong, fresh, and just the right temperature. That would be the coffee, not the mug. Grammar, April, grammar. My bagel was perfectly toasted and well buttered. Mmm, butter. I hate it when you order something toasted and it rips up the roof of your mouth. That was not the case here. Total cost for breakfast - $5.19. Its a nice little spot with a collection of Mediterranean food. I found that the ingredients were fresh and the food served piping hot. I had a breakfast burrito, pricing was reasonable what you would find at any other place for a solid breakfast burrito. It was fully loaded wrapped with a Spinach Tortilla. It wasn't your typical heavy burrito it was quite light and fresh actually and I would definitely recommend it. So nice to have an good, independent, cafe so close to home! The neighborhood association meets here for general and committee meetings because the welcome is warm, and folks can grab a meal after work while we meet. The smoothies and desserts are very appealing, if it's too late for caffeine, and it seems a perfect place for a snack or lunch after visiting the Children's Discovery Museum, a block away. That's a Light Rail station, too, by the way. I try so hard to make good coffee at home, but find myself looking forward to iJava visits; always better. read more

In the former home of the fabled Lou's Living Donut Museum, it's got a funky, artsy vibe and a refreshing lack of pretension. It's clean, family-friendly and one of the few places around where you can get siphon coffee. The pastry selection is pretty broad, although nothing appears to be housemade - maybe my one knock against the place. If you can get past the name, which seems straight out of the 90s, iJava is a laid-back, authentic alternative to corporate coffee. read more

Love this place the staff is always friendly. The owner truly cares for his customers. They have bulletproof coffee and nitro coffee which is my favorite. Good quality beans and the food is good portions. I'm on Keto and can order a fully loaded burrito with no tortilla and no potatoes and bam it's so filling and taste great. Yes the prices are a bit high but I'd prefer quality food and drinks than pay lower prices. It's worth it. My sister forgot her wallet one time and the owner asked her if she worked nearby and she said yes. He then told her not to worry about it and she could pay the next time she came in. I drive by this place every day. So I finally decided to visit today, and I'm glad I did. The place wasn't very busy today, and I was able to get a good look at the dining room. More importantly, I got some excellent service. Before I had a chance to ask anything, Ali adressed me, "Good morning, Buddy. Can I help you?" This is one of the most comforting greetings I've received in a long time from a place like this. I asked what was good and Ali gave me a few answers, so I went with the Fully Loaded burrito. He reassured me that it would fill me up and that it was an excellent choice. While my burrito was being made, the cook asked me if it was to-go or for here. A normal question, sure, but he addressed me in a friendly, unpressuring way that almost made me stay, but I had to go to work. I ordered to-go, so I didn't find out how good it was until I got to work. But boy am I glad I ordered that burrito. It went perfect with my coffee. In the end, the burrito was perfect, the service was beyond my expectations, and I even got an invite to come back with a rewards card. These guys know how to do business. Unfortunately, this place did not live up to the hype for me. It's a cool little cafe, cool vibe. I ordered a lox breakfast sandwich, which was yummy but just not anything to write home about. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito, which was actually tasted bomb, but toward the end of his meal, he pulled a piece of foil from his mouth, which came from the burrito. Went here for an art show my friend was throwing. His art will be on display for a little while. While I was there I thought I'd grab myself some lunch and some tea. I ordered the Lox bagel and an herbal tea. The tea selection is wonderful. A great blend of choice herbal and standard teas. All in bags. I didn't see any loose leaf teas, then again i didn't ask. The lox bagel had a healthy sized serving of delicious salmon on it, a light dusting of capers, onions and cream cheese. Enjoyed it greatly. I also noticed they had a decent selection of craft brew root beer, ginger beer and sarsaparilla. Some of the companies I'm familiar with, others I'd never heard of. Will have to try some of the unknowns some time! All in all the cafe was nice, probably much busier than normal because of the reception. First off, this place was sort of in the middle of nowhere in downtown. It was pretty much in the ghetto where the government decided not to renovate the place. The way they present their food is very eye catching; unique, clever, and semi-fancy. They have a large variety of dishes on their menu and serve breakfast all day. The atmosphere there is calm and relaxing, which is nice even if you're just there alone. The cafe is also family owned and have great service. According to what I saw, the waiter was very helpful and was more than willing to fix your order, even if that fix is as small as getting the ice out of your carrot juice. Overall, I give this place a 4/5 just because the price was a bit more than I expected. Other than that this place is great. I'm definitely going to come back again. read more

Overall Impression: Good décor/ambiance throughout the restaurant, but the service and the food left a lot to be desired. Cost: Cost was affordable. We purchased a salmon panini, a lox bagel, and desert for around $25. Taste: Overall, they skimped on how much salmon they gave us. The fish did not taste fresh. The other ingredients were bland, and the bagel was hard (close to stale). It was a huge disappointment for entrees that should be staples in an upscale café like this was intended to be. Customer Service: The cashiers did not greet us, and had an attitude when I was deciding which desert to try. This would make sense if there was a line behind me... but there wasn't. Enjoyed the Mediterranean panini immensely. Wish I didn't have to split it with my wife, but we ended up getting dessert (apricot crumble - or should I say yummble?) along with a nice strong cup of coffee. Prefer to sit inside and enjoy the eclectic tunes. I've also had the Everything (?) Breakfast Bagel - tasty and satisfying, with scrambled eggs, grilled onions, cheese and beef (I noticed on the menu that the recipe is a bit different - a beef patty instead of the carne asada I enjoyed). I'll have to try it again. Easy access to the light rail station at the Discovery Museum. A nice choice if you're visiting the Museum and want a big selection of delish food and treats.
