We came in for lunch. Ike's. Has the feel of an old time steak house. Warm and welcoming. The bartender was really friendly and helpful. Once we placed out order the food came our quickly and was delicious! Looking forward to returning.

Cajun Cavatappi

Visited Ike's on September 26 and really enjoyed the experience! I tried the Cajun Cavatappi and the Roadhouse Steak Burger -- both flavorful and satisfying. The burger was juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the pasta had just the right amount of Cajun kick without being overpowering. The service was great -- friendly, attentive, and genuine. Ike's really retains that old-country charm with its service and décor; it's the kind of place that takes you back in time in the best way possible. You can feel the tradition and warmth the moment you walk in. There's also plenty of parking, which makes the visit even easier. The onion bun on the burger -- it was a bit of an overkill and overpowered the rest of the flavors. Still, everything else hit the mark beautifully. Overall, Ike's delivers hearty comfort food, classic hospitality, and timeless character -- a great spot that feels like a slice of the past done right.

We had an early dinner during happy hour at Ike's and their HH menu is extensive! We were seated in the bar room area which is very close quarters, but I never felt uncomfortable. It has more of a dark and cozy vibe. We had a variety of happy hour snacks and the Guacamole was by far the best item. The wings had a good coating of sauce and a significant side of ranch. I wouldn't recommend the spinach artichoke dip, but we did have to sub the bread for tortilla chips as a GF option. Overall, for the price of HH I was impressed with the food and the portion.

The perfect little spot for a nightcap and dessert! We stopped here after dinner down the road in Excelsior and I'm so glad we found this little gem. Best part - they have Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream! Be warned, the portions are LARGE, we definitely could've shared just one of these. GRASSHOPPER MARTINI: Literally a boozey Shamrock Shake! It was so delicious and creamy without being too minty. CHOCOLATE CAKE: The largest slice I've ever seen. Moist and fudgey, reminded me of Portillos. ICE CREAM: The day's flavor was coffee oreo caramel, and it was the perfect blend of flavors. This was my favorite dessert! The old supper club vibe and great, friendly service was a plus too!

Everytime going to Ike's has been great. The food is always flavorful, the drinks are not watered down, the staff inside are lively and will hold a conversation with you, and the vibe inside is a good mix of working class and reserved. Worth stopping by for a bite if you're in the mood for old school American food.

Ike's is always consistent and that is something I really appreciate. My favorite things are the ribs, Brussels, cheese curds (with jalapeño jam!), Reuben and carrot cake. The drinks are always good. The prices are good and the service is excellent. The patio in the summer is so nice and the overall feel of the restaurant is cozy and warm. It's a go-to spot for us when we want no-frills deliciousness. Also shout out to Floyd, our recent server whose impeccable service caused me to write this review.

Live near here but has only visited once and now I'm feeling like I've missed out on a great happy hour spot. We swung in Friday at 4PM and it was busy but thankfully not too busy to grab a table for 3 without a reservation. The service was very friendly and prompt. Love the dark yet vibrant old school steakhouse vibe of the place. Their happy hour menu is extensive. There are 5ish flatbreads and a dozen other options from Guacamole to cheese curds to wings and pickle Fries. We tried the Brussels sports (really good flavor but needed to be cooked a little longer), deviled eggs (loved these but note that they're spicy!), and our new favorite spinach and artichoke dip with their chips. This is the best S&A dip I've ever had. So delicious! And I recommend getting with the chips as opposed to the flatbread. My other highlight was my martini which came with a backup glass so really it was 2 for 1!

Spinach & Artichoke Flatbread

Local bar with a good happy hour. Quaint bar setup but bartenders are responsive and personable. Enjoyed the flatbread during happy hour for $9 and it was hot, hearty and the base (dough) reminded me of lavash with its thin crispiness. I recommend if you're going to enjoy happy hour, get there soon. Their bar really isn't very big so snag a spot while you can. Or if you'll be sitting in the dining- reservation would probably be best as well.

Thin cut extremely charred shoe leather ribeye steak !
Jacque B.

I'm not happy with my experience at Ike's. To put it plainly the food was not good. Everything lacked seasoning and most especially salt. I was most offended at the ribeye steak plate. It was 46$ but it was a thin cut steak. A clear rip off. It was FLAVORLESS. All I tasted was charr. I broke down and ordered the Bernaise sauce but the waiter forgot it and she took forever to make the rounds. When it did come my steak was ice cold. So upsetting but the waitress was obviously not able to keep up for some reason and never checked back in to ask if I even like the food. It was so bad. Steak isn't meant to be slathered in steak sauce when the price is 46$. I ordered mid well and if I had known I was getting a thin cut ribeye I would have done mid rare. It was like eating shoe leather. I couldn't send it back because our waiter was slower than molasses. There was not even 5 tables occupied this 4th of July. Busy wasn't a factor in this case she just wasn't good. Nice but not efficient at all. Our table spent 350$ before tip and I can say it was the worst money spent. The kitchen needs to step op their game and the chef needs to reevaluate his design and execution. Both were severely lacking. I do not need to season every single piece of my food. Please Ike's do better for the ones who do have taste buds. You have so much potential.

Wednesday afternoon at Ike's!

Here's my review of the food we ordered: Cocktail of the hour - aka "Golden Hour" - 8.5/10 Reminded me of mulled cider, notes of honey, very refreshing Pork Belly Steam Buns - 8.1/10 Nice texture, very tender and flavorful Mini Banh Mi - 7/10 Not bad, would have preferred the more traditional pork filling Crispy Chicken- 8.7/10 This really surprised me, from appearance the chicken didn't look that special but it was well seasoned and the sweet chili glaze really stole the show and elevated this dish! Mirabelle Smash Burger - 8.9/10 I'm a sucker for smash burgers and this one did not disappoint. Nice crispy bun and a special mustard sauce that we enjoyed and a different flavor I don't usually have on my burger Sticky Ribs - 5/10 Unfortunately these were quite dry and was comparing to sticky ribs I had last week at CoV that were fall off the bone Overall good spot, service, atmosphere, and would be happy to return. Prices were also great for happy hour.

Very close to the lake(walking distance) There is a free parking ramp right behind the building. The decor of this place is cute! The details seem like they were well thought out! It feels upscale and cozy! I saw a video of this place and that was what originally drew me in! The seating here is also comfortable and not over crowded. Our server was ok. I saw so many raves about the "amazing service." She did refill our water glasses, which was good because I needed it with the salty steak! Obviously the most important piece is the food. We started with the popovers. The taste was fine but the texture was almost over done. The honey butter was lacking honey flavor. Cinnamon would have really elevated the butter! I got the steak frites and my sister got the spaghetti. My fries were average. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium all the way through! I was impressed. However, it was drowning in a VERY salty sauce! I had push a lot of it off. This should be served on the side, not covering the whole steak. My sister got the spaghetti, which our waitress explained was not a regular spaghetti. I feel she has probably had to do that multiple times and honestly, it should just be renamed. It's confusing for the customer. My sister did say she enjoyed the dish and that the shrimp was ere done well. For dessert I got "Aunties iced latte" which is their version of like an espresso martini. It was just ok. Would not get again. We got the carrot cake which was good!! But then they ruined it by putting fake whipped cream.... This is supposed to be a higher end restaurant and that made the dessert feel so cheap. We also got the creme brûlée. DO NOT ORDER THAT! It is an absolute waste of money! The sugar top was so thick we couldn't eat it! The dessert had the consistency of scrambled eggs, not a smooth custard. The taste seemed ok, but whoever made this does not know what they are doing! Overall, the food was not memorable and a lot of it was done poorly. There are definitely better restaurants in the area.

Beckett's in uptown and Meteor Bar in Northeast are great examples of bars, both with food, that consistently go later no matter what. granted they are both in Minneapolis, so different customer base. come here, support this local establishment! they are good, just not great though they could be!! p.s. yes i am writing this from the bar, and just an update: my bill confirmed their happy hour is NOT running tonight. :/ granted the bartender never said there was happy hour and those menus weren't out, so i suspected as much. but i came for the happy hour, including food, and got neither. first world problems for sure!

My second favorite was the chicken with some amazing reduction of some sort, love! The olives were just becuase I was hungry and I knew they would come out fast. The seafood paella was very good, just not as good as the brussels and chicken in my humble opinion and don't do it if you are not ready to get your fingers messy taking all the shells and pieces and parts off the shrimp. The bathroom was cute. The service was fast, olives minutes after we ordered, my favorite two dishes 12 minutes after ordering and paella, 12 minutes after that. It was not great. The problem? I think it was because owner/chef Rene Ruiz Olivar was acting as waiter, not chef. We gave Sr. Ruiz the freedom to choose our tapas, with one exception, the black ink pasta with scallops and shrimp (Tinta Negra) that reviewers have raved about. He said, no problema--he would serve it. Then he must have forgotten because we never got it. The first tapa served, almond-crusted manchego (Almendrado), was plated prettily and was delicious but oh-so-sweet. It was an odd choice for a starter, would have been better as the finale in case nobody ordered dessert. Soon came a lamb tapa (Cordero). The lamb chops' quality was uncertain as the meat was severely overcooked. El Bodegon's langoustines (Gambas al Ajillo) had given every bit of their sea flavor to the sauce, which was magnificent, we all agreed. But where were the dish's promised mussels, the rice? One shared plate, a beef tenderloin tapa (Carne Brava), had apparently lingered too long in the kitchen--the meat was nearly cold. I adore papas bravas (Patatas Bravas). I must have had the dish a dozen times or more during my last trip to Spain, in 2017, when I visited friends who live in Ronda. During my six-week stay, we toured Andalucia, staying at hotels in large cities and visiting small towns. I also spent time sola in Madrid and Barcelona. Unlike in Spain, El Bodegon's potatoes were diced to death. Never in Spain have I ever had patatas bravas that were not substantial in size. All in all, I found the vegetables accompanying the tapas unrecognizable except for the tiny Brussels sprouts. The rest seemed chopped up or stirred to pieces in the pan. Some of my friends had churros for their dessert. They deemed them appropriately hot and tasty. My dessert was cheesecake torte, decked out with a candle as it was my 90th birthday. The torte was a gold-star winner. It was absolutely delicious, its plating the most successful of the evening. It was so perfect it almost made up for the sub-par tapas that preceded it. One of us had a view of the kitchen from his seat at the table. He saw a man other than the chef/owner doing the cooking. Was he a trainee? Did Sr. Ruiz help with the plating? God knows he didn't have a lot patrons to contend with in his role as waiter. It was a slow weeknight, and there were never more than four tables occupied. I sincerely regret that our time at El Bodegon differs from so many reviewers. Like them, I want to see Sr. Ruiz's little restaurant succeed. He has a hard row to hoe, and I hope a disappointing dinner like ours does not befall anyone else going forward.
