First time trying out Ike's since moving to the Bay Area! Can't say enough great things about this spot. I told the cashier it was my first time there and the menu overwhelmed me, he took his time and made some recommendations based on my preferences. Any of Ike's sandwiches can be made vegetarian and they also offer gluten free bread. The choices are abundant and the combinations are truly original. I got the Matt Cain on French bread with all turkey: turkey, godfather sauce (horseradish mayo-ish sauce), provolone with lettuce and tomato. AMAZING! Would definitely get it again. My boyfriend got the Steve young (beef meatballs bacon marinara sauce) on sourdough and said he would definitely get it again. Ordered the Lincecum but it was very salty, not sure if it was the ham that was the culprit. and expected the bacon to be crispy but was very limp. 'Extra dirty', generous, messy, balanced, fresh and delicious. I called in a pick up order of an Eric Wright and a Matt Cain to grab mon our way out of town. As usual, they were ready and fresh within 15 minutes when I walked in the door. These are not your average subs or hoagies. These are fully-loaded bread meals. Each sandwich is enough to feed two people or at least have half for a second meal. Our Eric Wright (hold the jalapeño) had turkey, bacon, cheddar and pesto on sourdough with lettuce, extra dirty. The Matt Cain had roast beef, turkey, salami, godfather sauce, provolone, lettuce, red onion and banana peppers on french bread, extra dirty. The sandwiches here are filling and the ingredients were fresh! I ordered a Bella and a were just friends. The freebie add ins are really nice additions. There's also lots of variety on the menu. But here's the rub- 2 sandwiches were 25$ and some change. Plus our chicken today was so dry and a weird texture. Almost like it had been frozen and microwaved. Aside from the price and the weird chicken it was a decent sandwich. The workers didn't even add in our two lollipops in the bag that are usually included. Also the parking lot was a nightmare. I've been getting sandwiches from Ike's Place for a while now. Usually I get the meat stuffed sandos on dutch crunch but since my girlfriend is pescatarian and it makes no sense for me to cook two types of meals during covid-19, i've practically been avoiding meat. I need to say that their meat alternative sandwiches are insanely delicious. Even as a carnivore, I love all of their vegan chicken / breaded chicken options. It's crazy good. The popular "Spiffy Tiffy" was made with shredded chicken breast mixed with pesto (juicy and flavorful!), paired with grilled mushrooms (for a meaty bite of umami), avocado and melted provolone & pepper jack cheese (for a nice creaminess)! So maybe it wasn't the neatest thing to eat, but it sure was tasty. Like all Ike's, this location is no exception to delivering quality sandwiches that are very large and taste great! I've noticed that different Ike locations tend to have different names and variations in their sandwich offerings. So it's always funny to visit a new Ike to check out their sandwich names. In this case, the manager at this spot must be a huge football fan, because all the sandwiches here have names of football legends. Since I was in the mood for some meatballs, I ordered the Steve Young (meatball, bacon, marinara sauce, and pepper jack cheese) on a white bread. I was originally planning to only eat half the sandwich and save the other half for part of dinner, but I "accidentally" devoured the whole thing (OOPS!). Service at all Ike locations have always been great, and this Ike's is no exception. Spiffy Tiffy - the mushrooms on top of this make the sandwich, and I love that they mix the pesto into the shredded chicken as opposed to just putting it on the bread of the sandwich. It's been a long-time ritual for me to go to Ike's on or near my birthday as Ike's has a free sandwich offer on your birthday. I've been to the original Ike's location in the Castro, Ike's in Oakland, and most recently to Ike's in San Mateo last week. Of the locations I've been to, I like this Ike's the most because it's very spacious with ample seating and there's lots of free parking available as compared to the Castro and Oakland locations. I ordered the ménage trois, sandwich on Dutch crunch and it was amazing as always (it's my to-go-to sandwich). If you haven't had this sandwich you should definitely try it... It's a perfect combination of sweet and salty, gooey and crunchy and perfect for all you chicken fans out there! Side note, the chicken is halal. When I visited last week, it was dinner time (6pm) and it was not packed at all. My sandwich from order time to receiving time took only 5 minutes to prepare...and took an even shorter time for me to devour it! Yum! The sandwich wasn't too big that it couldn't fit in one bite. It was warm. The combination of all the ingredients complimented each other splendidly. It didn't stand even 15 min in my hands (I only ate one half, other was for my mom). If I could, I would order two sandwiches and I wouldn't be surprised if I ate them in one sitting! My main priority is usually boba. Yeah, boba. However, seeing as how San Mateo has recently added an Ike's to their city, why not go check it out? Ike's is located a little further away from downtown San Mateo so don't just go driving into the downtown area looking for this place. As soon as you get off the freeway at 3rd avenue, just go down about 2 streets and it's going to be in a small square with other shops and the 7/11. They have their own small parking lot. The inside of this place is a pretty good size. They sell chips and drinks on the side and their sandwich menu is huge. Forreals. Take your time and look through all the options they have to offer. There are a few chairs in here where you can sit and wait for your sandwich and there are 2 tables outside for you to sit and eat. The cool thing about this place is that they give you a lollipop with each sandwich you buy. Hehe. Prices are what they are. A little expensive, but if the sandwich is good then it's okay right? Service is kind of slow both times I came here. It's usually just one person working the cash register and with every sandwich order, they ask you what kind of bread you want and if you want to add tomatoes and lettuce to it so just try to be patient if you decide to come here for sandwiches. Vegetarian Sandwich Haven! I have never had so many sandwich options in my life. I've been to this Ike's location 3 times now and have tried three different sandwiches. My favorite is the Tom Brady. The bread is fantastic and they have a whole wheat option which tastes great. The sauces are delicious, toppings are fresh, and they offer seitan options (vegan) for a lot of sandwiches. This particular location is close to downtown and the parking lot is usually full so I recommend parking in the street right before the shopping center.
