I have heard a lot about Il Canto being the best breakfast burrito in the city, so I had to try it. I came by on a weekday morning and there were quite a few people in line as well as lots of delivery drivers picking up orders. To order, you don't actually go into the restaurant, but rather shout your order in and pay through the POS set up outside the restaurant. Then you just wait for your order to be called. I didn't realize that each topping on the burrito was an add-on, so while the base price seems really cheap, once you add a few extras it still ends up being ~$15. Obviously this is not that expensive for the city but it definitely caught me a bit off guard + gave me higher expectations! I got my food within 15 minutes or so and ate it at the tables right next to the cafe. The burrito was hot and cheesy. This is quite a saucy/wet breakfast burrito with a lot of melty cheese, and it definitely filled me up because of that. It had a good flavor and was satisfying on a cold morning. I would recommend adding potatoes because I think a carb would go well with the sauce they put in it, but I didn't and lowkey regretted it. Overall it was a satisfying breakfast burrito and if I'm in the area again I won't hesitate to stop by. read more

Grabbing a quick breakfast sandwich before I start my day in San Francisco. il Canto came up as the closest location to my hotel in the financial district and top rated. Nice quick stroll and when I arrived there was a flood of DoorDash drivers waiting for orders. That's a good sign. I was told the wait would be 15 minutes - didn't seem long considering the line of drivers waiting. I ordered the croissant sandwich with egg and sausage which also has a touch of chipotle sauce. The sandwich was filling and tasty which I think the chipotle sauce made it work. If you get the croissant as your bread it may be a bit soggy by the time you get it home since it's wrapped in foil. I was able to have my sandwich in their courtyard- very cool outdoor spot. I'd come back here whenever I'm in town and maybe get a more dense bread to handle the rest of the sandwich :) read more

My coworker recommended this place, claiming they made pretty good breakfast burritos. So ultimately, I stopped here for lunch. I meant to order for pick up then grab my food and go, but I completely forgot and ended up ordering from their line instead. I came around 11:30am and there was a good amount of people waiting. One of the employees at the front was working his way between the line for orders and the line for pick up. For how busy it seemed, the wait time was about 10-15 minutes until I got my burrito. So it wasn't that bad. I'd recommend ordering in advance if you want to skip the wait time. The burrito was actually really delicious! I ordered the Chipotle one with bacon - so good! The cheese was melted nicely also. I'm not that picky with my breakfasts, but if you can make a good burrito like Il Canto did, then that's a 10/10 for me. read more

Il Canto is a TINY little spot- pickup only, no real seating inside (a few outdoor tables if you're lucky), and you basically have to line up on the curb to order and wait for your name to be called for your to-go bag. We shared the Meatlovers Breakfast Burrito with potatoes to share. The tortilla is grilled, which is a nice touch, but it was mostly just eggs and it would have been nice if the potatoes were hash browns. We couldn't taste or even see a hint of the chipotle sauce that's supposed to be in it, so we asked for a side of salsa and got the most non-salsa, salsa I've ever had...it basically tasted like fresh and plain puréed tomatoes. I'm a pretty big breakfast burrito lover and while this is a decent burrito....it was nothing that wowed me, and there were definitely a few things that could've been improved. Not sure why this place has so much hype around it, but it's not a bad option if you're in the area and need a quick grab-and-go bite. read more

Tried out Il Canto Cafe for the first time after hearing great reviews for their breakfast burritos. They do get quite busy during the lunch rush, so you can wait up to 30 minutes if the timing is poor. We came at the latter end and only waited about 15 min. The serves are all very nice and communicative about the wait time. I built my own and added chicken + spinach. The burritos automatically come with eggs, salsa, cheese, and a sauce. There is no seating, besides an outdoor section, so we headed to a park to eat. The burrito is flavorful and moist from the eggs and sauce. I liked that the burrito did not fall apart and that the ingredients were evenly spread throughout. read more

I enjoyed my egg sandwich with sausage and my partner had the lox and asiago bagel. The prices are great and the line moves quickly. The coffees are also very good and I can see why there is a long line of people waiting all day for their meals. The staff is friendly and they use very high quality ingredients. With all the reviews raving about the breakfast burrito, I had to give it a try. I ordered online for pickup. The cafe seems to be take-out only since there was just a table set up to take payments and receive food. The burrito itself was reasonably priced and I was sure to order extra chipotle sauce that everyone raves about. Overall, the burrito was solid but IMO, nothing special. I think all the amazing reviews set my expectations a little too high. Don't get me wrong -- it was a solid breakfast burrito, reasonably priced, and they turn them out super quickly. I can see the appeal for a quick grab and go option, but there are SO MANY better breakfast burritos in SF. The chipotle mayo is good as well, but again, nothing that special IMO. It's just mayo and a little bit of adobe mixed in. I don't usually think about putting more mayo on a breakfast burrito since it needs something acidic to cut through the richness and a good salsa is always the way to go in my opinion. read more

This review is primarily based on my mission to find the best breakfast burrito in SF. It's been years that I've been eyeballing this spot and I've finally made it. I ordered the Chipotle Breakfast Burrito (CBB) through door dash to minimize my wait time. I arrived and there were a number of people hanging outside. My burrito was ready when I arrived, in the estimated timeframe. Interestingly, at least in the AM time during the work week, they block off the front entrance. It really functions as a take out spot. The people were friendly and helpful. I rushed back to my office to unveil the delectable CBB. I added potatoes and some crispy bacon for texture. With the additions, the price was still reasonable. I was thrilled to see the grill marks on the tortilla. And while the image I took of the guts doesn't show, some care when into executing and the CBB is well layered. Best breakfast burrito in the city? Would say it's my new favorite in Fidi vicinity. And one of the best breakfast burritos I've had to date in SF. Definitely worth the trip. Recommend to order ahead. read more

This is the spot for a great breakfast burrito in the city. It is very customizable and they also have pre-set combo's to make ordering easy. I went during lunch and it was pretty busy. I noticed the pro move is calling in an order early and picking it up. The line moved quickly, the guy at the front keeps the operation moving smoothly. There are seats to the side but I took my burrito elsewhere. The bacon avocado was smacking! I do recommend adding potatoes for a loaded bite. I admired the grill marks and the cheese was nicely melted. The only thing I would love with this burrito is a nice hot sauce! read more

My favorite breakfast burrito ever! I am not a big burrito person but after having one from here, I crave it often. I have it from an office breakfast, it was a Grilled Chipotle Breakfast Burrito with Bacon. It was so flavorful & delicious, I also tried one with Chicken another time but that one was just ok. This place makes a very solid breakfast burrito! The chipotle burrito with added bacon and avocado is my go-to and it never lets me down. Their portions are quite generous in general, but they are especially liberal with the yummy chipotle sauce. The avocado is always fresh, the bacon is perfectly crispy, and the tortilla is grilled just right, warm with a hint of char that adds a nice edge to the flavor profile. I'm not the biggest egg fan in general so I don't have much praise to offer in that department. I've tried both the regular and the egg white only versions which are both very fluffy, but it's just too much egg for me overall and tastes a bit artificial. The chipotle sauce is by far my favorite part and honestly why I keep crawling back for more. Even though the egg situation isn't perfect, I would say that this breakfast burrito is still one of the top three in the city. I love that it's available on DoorDash for a quick weekday delivery before a long day of meetings too. I also love that the staff usually include a little handwritten note on the bag, which is such a thoughtful touch and makes ordering from here feel like an extra special treat. read more

Came on a Saturday morning and there was no line to order! There were people outside waiting for their order. Unfortunately, this place is very popular and there were ENDLESS amounts of DoorDash/delivery people coming and going. These orders are what caused the hold up. We waited around 20 minutes just to get our breakfast burrito. As for the burrito, it must have been one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. I was having a bad morning so I needed a pick me up so I decided to treat myself by checking out Il Canto. I arrived around 9am and it the entrance was pretty crowded with delivery workers but despite that the owner was super attentive and spotted me pretty quickly to ask me for my order. It was my first time stopping by so I was pretty lost but the owner was really patient and gave me a recommendation. After I ordered the owner gave me a wait time estimate which is something I always appreciate. I got the chipotle burrito with bacon and avocado as recommended. The burrito came out fresh off the grill and everything about it is perfect. It was fresh, wrapped perfectly, and the ingredients were cooked perfectly and proportioned well with each other. Of course there is room for customization which I will definitely experiment with next time. I can see why Il Canto is so loved! read more

Top tier breakfast burrito in a great location in FIDI! I got their bacon avocado breakfast burrito which was delicious! I love how crispy the tortilla on the outside was and how it had the perfect ratio of cheese, egg, avocado, bacon, and chipotle sauce on the inside. Breakfast is served all day (6am-4pm on weekdays) which is a great bonus. There were a lot of Doordash orders getting picked up, but I waited around 10-15 minutes for my burrito to be ready on a Thursday at around 10am (I did come with a group of people though so that probably added to the wait time). I found the staff to be very friendly and personable which added to my experience. One thing to note is that this place is a grab n go spot: the inside of the store is blocked off so there's no place to sit in. Overall, great no frills spot - highly recommend anyone to check it out! read more

Their breakfast burrito are indeed absolutely delicious here. I tried the Bacon Avocado breakfast burrito which was recommended by the staff as it was one of their more popular ones. 5 stars all the way! Burrito was hot, crispy, and fresh when I received it. The perfectly scrambled eggs combined with the right amount of cheese and chipotle sauce made each bite perfect. Love that breakfast items are served all day. I did arrive after the lunch rush on a Wednesday at around 12:45pm with not many people in line so my order came out very fast, around 5 minutes. Very friendly service all around and a great spot for grab-and-go food. There is some outdoor seating adjacent to the shop with some tables and chairs. Will definitely be back again to get my breakfast burrito fix! read more

Super popular local spot for breakfast burritos. The food is good and they have plenty of customization options, as well as other non-burrito options. There are usually people waiting for their order, so if you want to order, line up near the "register", so the guy knows you want to order and is not just waiting. I got to work suddenly hungry and was craving a breakfast burrito. Wanted to try something new, but the places I was looking at were still closed. There is one place that I love, but for the life of me forgot the name. Lol I found this place during my search and saw that it had good reviews. I have also seen it on other posts on IG. Decided to get it delivered even though $18 for a bfast burrito is so expensive. This is what I ordered: Grilled chipotle breakfast burrito: added sausage and potatoes. It looked promising esp with the chipotle sauce. At first bite, I bit into an overcooked potato as it was pretty hard. Three bites in, I realized it wasn't worth the price tag/delivery cost. Now, I am picky with burritos. It needs to wow me at least in the first two bites. This did not. With the 4 bites I took, there were hard potatoes though out. It was average at most. I can't explain what was missing, but it didn't live up to the hype for me unfortunately. Compared to my favorite place, Bandit, I probably wouldn't order this again. Now this is just my own opinion. I know people have different palettes. I'm just a little more particular esp if I'm paying $18. read more

II Canto Cafe may not have the best breakfast burritos in San Francisco, but the location and service are exactly what keep me coming back. If you work in the Financial District and want a hearty, satisfying breakfast, this is a great go-to spot. It does get busy, especially with delivery drivers, so I'd recommend ordering ahead for pickup if you're short on time. My favorite order is the meat lovers burrito with added potatoes, which always hits the spot. You cannot eat in this cafe as it is set up as pick up style only. read more

The little breakfast spot that could! There was a small crowd waiting for orders including a number of delivery guys on motorcycles ready to rev up and go. The grilled Chipotle Meatlovers burrito was delicious, savory with crunchy bacon, chipotle, fluffy eggs, avocado and cheese for a luscious creaminess. It was tasty and very filling. The Americano, hot with two shots espresso, woke me up. The orders came out quickly with calm, friendly service. I would return for the service alone that started my Sunday on a Zen-like note. God Bless you can order this place ahead of time, I was coming from Fremont and wanted to be sure I was able to park really quick and give them my name to grab and go. Saw this place because of @feastingjess and she had mentioned this was a solid Breakfast Burrito place. So it was only natural to go and see if these claims were true (Also had a reservation at Nintendo so needed something good near by) I had ordered their grilled breakfast burrito and I love that you're able to customize it. It comes with a base of Chipotle Sauce, Cheese, Salsa, 2 Scrambled Eggs, Bell Peppers, Green Onions and a dash of hot sauce. But I opted to add Sausage and Avocado. As soon as I pulled up, I said my name and I was on my way. Which was good since there's not really parking in the area and you'll be in a loading zone. Honestly wished I ate it on the spot as I'm sure it would've been crispy right off the press but I had to enjoy it in line as I wait for my reservation. Wrapped in foil, it preserved the warmth of the ingredients however softed the crispy indents of the grill which is what I was looking forward to. The eggs were very fluffy and just melted in your mouth. A classic sausage was what I needed to feel full too as I wanted something hearty to keep me full. Adding the avocado didn't really do anything for me as it's what you expect so I'd probably skip it because they do fill this thing up pretty well. If I ever find myself in a pinch and in the area again, this will be my go to! read more

My coworkers hyped this place up so much and I am absolutely so happy it was 100% worth that hype! Dangerous that Il Canto is so close to my work.. The Grilled Chipotle Breakfast Burrito with Bacon and Avocado is a 11/10 - only thing was the avocado was a little off tasting at the very end but I can 100% over look that! A personal favorite. First off - the owners are the sweetest and kindest souls. They are so warm & welcoming, cranking out as many breakfast burritos as possible during the morning rush hour and dealing patiently with waiting customers. Over the last year the burritos have gotten a little smaller, but flavor and satisfaction is still there. My go- to is an egg, bacon, cheese, avocado, and black bean burrito!! The chipotle sauce is delicious and the bacon is plentiful (4 thick crispy pieces). The best part is they panini press the burrito so it's nice and crispy on the outside while still maintaining a chewy texture. Such a great pick me up after a morning workout or pre-workout brekkie! read more

Just a weirdly hostile interaction over a very normal mistake. Then I ordered my coffee and asked for vanilla. He told me they didn't have any, so I said no problem and asked if they had another sweetener. His response was, "No, we don't. I don't do that here." I said, "Oh, okay, interesting," and he responded, "Yeah, that's why there are other coffee shops. You don't have to come here if you don't want to." I also asked for 2% milk, and again got a very curt "I don't do 2% milk," instead of just telling me what they did have. I happily switched to oat milk -- none of my requests were a big deal to me, and I wasn't upset that they didn't have what I originally asked for. It was entirely the attitude. Not sure why every interaction needed to come with so much sass, especially when we were being perfectly polite. Coffee was fine, but the service made the whole experience uncomfortable. Definitely won't be back, and if you're expecting friendly or welcoming service, I'd go somewhere else.

We got the Morris Method and Oscar's WIld and they were big and delicious. Service was spotty and arrogant; at the order counter, the unfriendly staff just stares at you with a long face. We sat outside and one sandwich was delivered while the other sat on the counter and needed to be hunted down and retrieved after waiting an inordinate amount of time. The lazy attendant (who didn't deserve part of the generous tip I had given) gave me a dumb quizzical look when I asked him why the other sandwich had been delivered but not this one. There is no ambiance with only eating shelves to stand at inside, and the seating area outside is limited to a few shared picnic tables with wind constantly blowing stuff off the tables. And finally, if I'm paying $65 for two sandwiches (average size and not much meat for a $20 sandwich), potato chips and a couple of overpriced beverages, why should I pay an extra 5% for health care for the lazy and arrogant staff after ALREADY adding a $9.32 tip? Under San Francisco's Health Care Security Ordinance, for-profit businesses with 20 or more employees must meet an employer spending requirement for any staff working at least 8 hours a week in the city. I doubt that this place has 20 employees, and even if they did it would only cost $2.74/hour extra and this cost is not required to be hoisted upon the customer at checkout; it should be taken out of the very fat food and drink profit margins. Not inclined to return.

It was more cake-like than we expected, making it a unique take on French toast. My Eggs Benedict was also very good, and we both enjoyed our meals overall. I also ordered a smoothie, and it tasted incredibly fresh with real fruit pieces I could feel. The service was friendly, and although we waited about 30 minutes for a table, that felt completely reasonable for such a popular restaurant. That said, I'm giving this place 4 out of 5 stars. The food was delicious, and we had a nice experience, but I didn't leave feeling like it was somewhere I absolutely needed to return. There were a few details that took away from the experience. The restaurant felt a little cramped behind the scenes, and walking to the restroom meant passing the dishwashing area, which was open and visible. Some tables are also located close to that area, and I imagine that wouldn't be the most pleasant place to sit. For such a well-known restaurant with so much history, I think a little more attention to those details would make the overall experience even better. Overall, I'm glad we visited. The food was very good, the atmosphere was charming, and it's definitely worth trying at least once if you're in the area.

FYI if you are using their app this location doesn't have table numbers or QR codes, but let your server know your name so they can be on the lookout. I do this especially if I have a reward I want to use since sometimes, it doesn't apply with the in-person transactions. Through the app, you can also see that one can request chocolate, cinnamon, Milo powder, etc free of charge. Neat!

My favorites: olive and pistachio pastry (savory, delicate, and flaky) and cherry galette (crunchy with a great balance of sourness and sweetness). They have a good variety of coffee/matcha drinks. Their bowls and soups are bowl and worth trying too - they are quite filling. Be aware that 12-2pm on weekdays is competitive for indoor seating but there's Yerba Buena park right next to it, so if the weather's nice, I'd just grab my pastry and coffee to go and enjoy it outside.
