When I did not know what wine to order they set up a wine tasting for me to try all their wines by the glass to help me choose. I love that! I had eaten here the first time I was in Florence in 2018 and when I was back this year I could not see myself not going there. So I called that same evening and they were able to get us two in that night. I had the John Travolta pasta which I had the last time I was there. It was just as delicious as the first time I had it. I also had a dessert that was very good. It was two slices of very dense and moist cake with whipped cream, not sure the name. They also gave us a pear ravioli and tiramasu to taste. Excellent service and very detailed in explaining the menu. They are proud of their restaurant but I detect a bit of lack of social graces. There are a lot of tourists so businesses cater to them. This is one such as I noticed all of the tables at my 7 pm seating were non Italians. The owner while proud did go to make comments that his restaurant was not a chain own by or catering to Chinese. I find the remark unnecessary. I recognize he is making a joke but it's not in good taste. The food was good. I'd avoid the steak as there's nothing special. But the pastas were amazing. The food is simple but very well done. One remark is that in our seafood pasta, there was more than noticable amounts of sand. At a restaurant like this, would think they would be extra careful on that. The house wine was drinkable but not particularly good, especially in comparison to other house wines I had across Italy. If you are looking for a genuine restaurant, not touristy, off the beaten path, with amazing food, this is the place. When you walk in you get a friendly greeting from the owner and his wife that is warm and welcoming, even if you don't have a reservation. Now on to the food. Quite exceptional. They bring you a couple of "surprises" throughout the meal to sample. We had a sampling of an amazing pasta. I couldn't quite put my finger on exactly what it was, but I loved it. Dishes we had were the veal cutlet, lemon chicken, and pesto; they were so delicious I wanted to get a job there just to get the recipes. Alas, no secret recipes were shared. The pesto was unlike any I've ever had anywhere. It had a silky, creamy texture, with no cream of course, and a brightness of flavor that was extraordinary. After dinner we were treated to a limoncello on the house, that had a lovely floral quality, making you think you were in a terrace in Sicily, enjoying an after dinner drink while looking out on the mountains. Mamma Mia!! Saw this restaurant on Yelp and later confirmed by the cool concierge at the hotel that this restaurant was indeed the real thing. Got there, and this place was rockin'. The aroma of garlic being sautéed in olive oil filled the air. Plates and plates of amazing food were pouring out of the kitchen and I couldn't wait to order. I kept scanning each table trying to decide what I was going to order. Thank God, I wore loose fitting pants. The waiter, was professional and friendly. He was very patient with American tourists- Us. Our food came out and there was no talking at our table. The food was Fabulous!! I highly recommend La Bontà del Profeta aka the John Travolta. The service was amazing once we walked in. We were seated quickly, listened to the standard speech about the history of the restaurant and a very well prepared hard sell on specials. Bruschetta was ok but nothing memorable. It lacked flavor and didn't seem fresh. Then we received a complimentary taste of pear/ricotta ravioli which was very good! We shared the "Travolta" pasta which was delicious but very clearly microwaved. One thing I didn't expect in Italy is "nuked" food. Then we had the duck which wasn't terrible but was too tough and again... nothing to remember. The side of potatoes was also microwaved and unbelievably hot. Once they were done with the selling of the specials and expensive wine, we never had our water or wine refilled. Over all, not the worst... but I would never recommend it to anyone or ever go back. I just had a meal at this restaurant for the first time since I was 14. The last time I ate there I enjoyed it so much that I've held onto their business card for the last 17 years. I came with understandably high expectations... and left deeply disappointed. Either my tastes as a 14 year old were not developed (absolutely possible, I was 14) or the quality has gone way down. - The bread was under salted - The tomatoes in the bruschetta were nothing to write home about - Several dishes were served microwaved and not fresh - The duck was not cooked properly and was very chewy The pasta and sauces were good but that's about all. Delicious meal. We came here after our tour guide said this was one of her favorite places to eat and she's born and raised in Florence. She was right. The food was delicious. The waiters spoke very good English. Everything we ate was amazing. Loved my Ribollita soup. Wish the size was a bit bigger, but then again I'm eating with my eyes. I got the Primavera pasta, which is something I would never get in the States cuz it always tastes like crap in the States. But here it was so delicious and fresh with bright green peas, asparagus and fresh pasta. I loved it and would get it again. Hubby got the Antipasto Rustica - it was a vegetarian dish with many different little bite sized treats. The waiter will explain what is all in it. He also got the wild boar pasta that didn't even taste like pork It tasted like beef. He was scraping the plate to get every last bit of sauce off. Loved, loved the olive oil they used. We had the toasted bread drizzled with olive oil and it was phenomenal. Nothing like the rancid olive oils you get back in the States. This was definitely the real deal. For dessert, we had the tiramisu, which is the house specialty. We were drawn to it because the waiter said it's not like traditional tiramisu - instead of a ton of mascarpone cheese, it was made with egg whites and a little bit of mascarpone. It's way lighter, which is perfect for what we wanted in a dessert. All that food, house wine, water, 3.5 Euro pp cover charge, 10% service fee came out to be just north of 80 Euros. read more

Our apartment was literally across the street from Il Profeta (a Michelin rated restaurant). We waited until our very last evening in Firenze to dine here and it was a treat beyond belief! What a way to end our vacation! The owners (20 years!) Claudio and Martine are so lovely. Our waiter was helpful, efficient and friendly not to mention a good photographer (he stood in the middle of the street to snap a picture for us!). Our waiter brought me a few different house wines to try wanting us to be happy with our selection. Our meal was wonderful from appetizer to dessert. The problem is I must have drank too much wine because I literally cannot remember what we ate that night with the exception of my husband spontaneously ordering their tripe in a light tomato broth (which he said was like butter in his mouth). Claudio told him an amusing story about a women from the East Coast ordering the tripe...thinking it was fish. NOT! In addition to the delicious food and wonderful atmosphere, when we expressed our concern to Claudio about securing a taxi the next morning to take us to the airport (we had a 7am flight...ugh!), he took it upon himself to make the arrangements for us and a cab showed up the next morning at 5am on the dot! My dinner companions seemed to enjoy this restaurant a lot more than me, but that's likely because I wasn't a huge fan of the entree that I got. The service was fantastic - the owner was incredibly charismatic and friendly, walking us through the menu items and also giving us sample tastes of entrees that we had indicated interest in but ended up not getting. His menu walk-through was a bit overwhelming, so I told him to give me an entree based on his recommendation. The main course I received was I think the 2nd item on the 'special/old' recipes sub-menu, which had a parmesan-breaded shell and a fettuccine alfredo spaghetti in the middle. For me, it was way too heavy and rich, especially after we had been fed an appetizer course the size of a full meal interspersed with his extra samples. The tiramisu was fantastic, and the John Travolta pasta (which one of my companions got) tasted delicious. If I had gotten a different dish, my experience probably would have been better! read more

I ordered the truffle dish (it's one of their special dishes unique to the restaurant). It was delicious, but expect ALOT of bright neon yellow and cheese. I like cheese (not a huge fan), so it was a bit cheesy for me, but it was delicious regardless. My father ordered the tripe (stomach lining of a cow), and it was scrumptious. The tripe is mixed in with other ingredients. It was a bit salty, but it's definitely not a dish you should be scared to try! I really enjoyed my evening here. I was informed about the family restaurant by guests of the St. Regis. They went on and on about the food and the overall experience. Intrigued I too booked and boy were they right. The service is part of what makes the entire experience top notch. The owner is very personable and proud of the restaurant and it's history. He introduces you to everyone as if you were a guest in his own. He then takes you through the entire menu. He helps with wine and food selections and even brings a few surprises along the way. Beautiful family owned/ run restaurant. Environment 4.5/5 Family owned and runner restaurant. This place has bright lighting and has a fancy traditional with a homey feel. Food 4/5 Started off with the calamari and artichoke. They were not deep fried but pan fried and that is probably the best way to get the true taste a great quality calamari but as for the artichoke it was a bit too tart and acidic I think fried would have been better. The seafood pasta was defiant best I've ever had, it had such a strong a delicious seafood flavor and the pasta was cooked perfectly. We also had the lemon prawn pasta and that was one of the most unique dishes we ever tried. The server warned us it had a very strong lemon flavor and he was not wrong, this was more of a dish the more you eat the more you will like it. Dessert we had Profeta's version of a tiramisu and it was one of the best I've ever had. The cream was so fluffy that it was board-line a marshmallow and it was simply amazing (although it was exactly the prettiest dessert). The food was good but felt it was a bit too pricey. Service 5/5 Service was simply top notch. Staff was super friendly and was very knowledgeable about their menu and the family would explain their food for us with great passion. Stumbled upon this place as it was close to our hotel and decided to give it a try based on the great reviews it had received. The server, whose name I did not get, explained some of the menu to us mentioning a few specials. He was friendly until that took a turn for the worse, more to come. I ordered the crostini fiorentina appetizer and the presentation seemed a bit off as it did not look appealing at first but I will admit it tasted fine. For my main course, I ordered the Il pollastrino mugellese al mattone for my main and it was just a half grilled chicken with some spices, nothing really special to it but the flavor was good. My fiancée ordered the same thing but was unaware that it was a half chicken on the bone, no biggie I thought til it became a joke to the server. The server noticed she was struggling a bit and as he walked by said "just eat it with your hands" which seemed a bit off for a Michelin restaurant. Since it was getting close to closing time, I decided to help her out and make things quicker and now he proceeded to peer over his shoulder and snicker at what we were doing. He did this more than once which was very unprofessional and something I have never encountered in all of my dining adventures across the globe. At this point, there was no dessert, I just wanted my check because I had seen enough. As he came back to clear plates, I asked for the check and a few minutes later he returned with dessert. I said no thanks, to which he responded "it's on the house" and I said it's fine, just the check please. After he heard this, he asked what was wrong to which I told him I didn't appreciate his comments and snickering toward us and we had enough and just wanted to go. He tried to say that he likes to see people eat with their hands (yet no one at this time was) and makes no sense for the quality of restaurant this appeared to be. I asked for the check again and he refused to give the check before trying to explain things further. I said there is no need to explain anything, what's done is done and it's time for us to go. After several minutes of now demanding the check, he finally tossed it on the table, I paid and left. For a Michelin restaurant, this is a complete disgrace of customer service and something that is just not tolerated on any level. What could have been a great experience turned out in poor taste and I now wish I never wasted time at this place. read more

I found this restaurant on Yelp of course!! When I got there, an elder lady greeted me an asked, if I had reservations...I said no. However, she had me wait for 5 min. IT WAS CROWDED on the outside, but not so much in the inside (maybe half full). She seated me, and it took a LONG time for me to get served. So, word to the wise- MAKE RESERVATIONS! Finally, I got a waiter to approach my table for my drink order, 20-25 min. later. At this point I was Starving! So, I ate the bread on the table (I normally don't eat bread). I ordered Bruchetta, and Bigi (Amabile -sweet) wine, which was great! That took the edge off, THANKFULLY! I was SUPPOSED to order the Travolta, but it wasn't on the menu...? So, I forgot about it COMPLETELY! I ate the shrimp linguine...not the best but it fit the bill. Wish I would've ordered Travolta, though...lady from America that set right next to me said, it was rich n Delish! Long story short, the service though slow, turned into immaculate, especially since they don't speak English (very nice at explaining wines/dishes that I didn't understand)! It was my boyfriend and I's first night in Florence. I studied here for a summer and remember this amazing meal so I called and we had no trouble getting a table. The owner immediately greeted us at the door and was extremely friendly and happy to know I had been at the restaurant before. We started with the pasta primavera and for our main dishes we got the travolta pasta and the truffle cheese pasta. We ended the meal with some asparagus. It is safe to say that this was our best meal in Florence. Everything tasted out of this world. Some people argue that the travolta pasta is a rip off because it comes with 7 large noodles, but the key is to clear the sauce from the plate with the bread they provide.
