Extremely fair prices (cleaned my tall suede boots for $15; replaced bottoms of nice heels with rubber covering for $25) and fast service: my shoes always look amazing when I pick them up! I've also gotten a wallet repaired where some threads were coming loose. read more

I found this place on yelp when I first moved to NY from California. He reheeled my italian boots and also fixed the lining that had torn on the inside of one of them. They looked great. He also restemmed my black pumps. All of this was ready the next day and for only $28. As a point of compariston, the last time I had my boots reheeled it cost me $30 and they wore down in three weeks. read more

My leather purse that I got in Argentina is old. I know that one of these days it's going to die. However not without a fight. It's one of a kind. Ilyau Express does a fantastic job sewing up all its war wounds. Most of the time, I can't even tell they were there once he's done sewing up this hole and that unraveling stitch. Or the time that fastener that once was coming off the purse, well that looked like it was time to kiss the purse goodbye. He glued and sewed it back together and it didn't look like it was repaired at all! All done reasonably for $20 a session or less depending on the job. This is place is simply great. Just great work, fair prices, and friendly service. I took my boots in to get the tips of my boots replaced and they were better than the original tips that came with the shoes when I bought them brand new. Also, they were ready when promised, and he had them stored in an plastic, snap lid shoe container once he had finished the repair. I appreciated the organization, attention to detail, and the safe keeping of my items until I had return. This gentleman does an excellent job and takes pride in what he does. I brought my favorite leather purse whose strap was falling apart in 2 places, as well as a pair of shoes that needed new soles. Getting my Fossil bag repaired was only $20 and the quality was incredible. The new stitches look great and you would never know where the old tear was. Getting my shoes resoled was $30, which isn't the cheapest I've ever paid, but it's definitely not bad and high quality. They polished them for me too, so they look good as new. brought in my favorite pair of boots to get them completely re-soled after wearing them down and (i thought) ruining the front ends completely. barely 24hrs later, i'm wearing my boots again, and they look brand new after an absolutely perfect fix. just a warning though, as mentioned by others, they're a bit shady on the credit card situation. read more

AMAZING! I'm sold. My favorite pair of boots was busted, and they fixed them like new in one day! They totally replaced the wooden heels, resoled them, polished the scuffs, and even repaired a hole in the suede. To top it off the cost was so reasonable! THANK YOU YELP!!! I bought new leather boots a few months back and wore them quite a bit. While they are still in good condition, part of the zipper broke off. Thanks to Yelp, I stopped by Ilyau on the way to the farmer's market. An hour later, I picked them up, and for $11 the zipper was fixed and my boots cleaned up and polished. This guy is great! I don't trust many tailors or cobblers with my clothes, but I'm glad I trusted other Yelpers and took the risk. The sole on my favorite pair of prep lace up half suede/half leather boots split horizontally, and originally, I tried to glue it back myself. Needless to say, that didn't work. I took them to my cobbler back home, and they said that they could not fix them, there was nothing anyone could do since I had tried to glue them. I was heartbroken. I took them here, and he said no problem and that was that. Went back a few days later, and they were fixed better than new, and he had polished the leather and made it waterproof. Walked in expecting just another store without much care for the customer... but he delicately grabbed my watch and told me it would take 5mins to replace the battery. Since mine has screws in the back I expected a much longer time. Price of $10 to replace the battery is fair, not a simple "pop the back open" watch. He even set the correct time for me, without me asking to! Just make sure when you pay for the service he knows you gave him the money. I gave my $10 mid-conversation and he thought I didn't give it to him when I was about to leave :( But I will surely come back in the future! read more

They do a great job, reasonably priced and my shoes always come back looking perfect!

First, I was told they don't clean the inside/sole of shoes (which could literally be down with a wipey and he could've charged me for it). So I couldn't leave my heels, so I just decided I wanted to leave my $2500 python Christian Louboutin sneakers. I wanted the laces to be washed or replaced - he claimed he didn't have replacement laces or that he could wash them (once again, could've thrown them in a washing machine and charged me and I wouldn't have mind). So I just asked him to clean the sneaker and the white sole, he said he couldn't clean a python skin (also a lie, all exotics can be cleaned obviously with a specific cleaner). Instead he repainted the sole with white paint...which leaked to the sole and looks super messy. Once I placed the sneakers into the red dust bags the paint stuck onto the felt and completely ruined my sneakers and now the white sole is red (FYI they were ready for 3 weeks so the paint was definitely dry). COMPLETELY RUINED my $2500 Christian Louboutin sneakers and was SUPER RUDE from when I dropped off the shoes. NEVER GOING AGAIN. read more

Went in right after work to have a new watch band resized. The gentleman behind the counter was extremely helpful and very precise. I don't think a single movement he made wasn't entirely calculated beforehand. I was amazed at the quality of his shoe repairs as well. After a bit of small talk he showed me a pair of leather dress shoes he had recently restored and I was amazed at the quality. This is an excellent shop with a great location. I think that this is my first 5 star review! Awesome spot. Went in today and asked for a quote to replace the sole on the heel of my ankle boots that were worn through on the edge and slightly chipping into the actual heel. Quoted $10 and they worked on it straight away. 5 mins later I was out the door with a brand new sole and polished heel. Efficient, prompt service and great prices. We have been going here for the past two years and had been relatively happy with the results of shoe repair and stretching. Recently, however, my husband brought in a pair of expensive dress shoes for shining (as he's done many times in the past) and returned to find that the sole of the shoe had been gouged almost all the way to the inner lining. The owner refused to acknowledge that this occurred while the shoes were in his shop. That is absolutely false, and it is an absurd claim -- why would someone bring in shoes for shining only if the shoes were unwearable due to a giant hole in the sole? The owner offered to repair the soles for $40, but the work should have been free given that the need for repair arose while the shoes were in their shop. We are especially disappointed because we had been frequent and loyal customers for such a long time. No longer. read more

Great service - had them replace a watch band and they were friendly, quick (took about one minute) and cheap!

They should rename the shop "the savior of shoes." I tore up my heels walking around the city, and they flawlessly rewrapped the leather on the heels. They also replaced the soles on my husband's boots and now both pairs look like new. Not the cheapest place around, but they do wonderful work. read more

I had worn a pair of gold leather driving mocassins down to the point where I had entirely walked through the shoe in the backs, leaving two gigantic horizontal holes big enough to stick my fingers through. I expected any shoe repair to laugh at me and leave me to throw my expensive shoes in the trash. The guy at Ilyau said "no problem" and three days later they had been fitted with color-matched stitched leather patches that look perfect, as well as a new heel that will prevent me from walking through them again. When I dropped them off, the owner had asked if I'd ever been there before, and when I said no, he replied "you are my customer now. You will see!" And how right he was- now I go ridiculously out of my way in order to leave my shoes in the hands of this awesome gentleman. Today, I thought I'd drop a pair off a little closer to where I work and see how the shop matched up, but they took one look at the worn-through wooden heel of my flats and said they didn't know how to fix them. Once again, a trip to Ilyau, and the man explained how he would fix them without even batting an eyelash. Also, they'll be ready tomorrow! With new hand-ground heels and rubber soles! Went in to get my watch band expanded. They were slammed but I came back in an hour with a link added for only $5. Friendly , efficient and quite well located based on where I stay when in NY I'd definitely come back. I wish there were places like this in LA for me to patronize more often. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place and also tell you that they weren't requesting Yelp reviews at all which means all of those 5 stars you see are authentic...quite rare nowadays with all these stores trying to take advantage of Yelpers (something I'm extremely against). I love this place and thought I had posted when I first found them 5 years ago. They are incredibly friendly, timely and their skill is fantastic. I have taken armload full after armload full of shoes there at a time. They're so fast and have that quiet pride and very humble way about the great work they do. From where I live and work, it is very much out of the way, but I make it a point to go there because I've never come away not being incredibly happy with the time, money and end product. Popped in today for the replacement on a heel. In / out in under maybe 5, but definitely 10 minutes including a quick shine (of the patent leather). Not the chattiest, but in no way rude. I'll go back for some bigger repairs based on other reviews. read more

Okay, another purse strap of mine broke (I know, I know!) from a month-old bag I just bought (on the sidewalk, so there is no return policy!). I brought it to him in the (late) morning. He said to come back at lunchtime and it would be fixed. He replaced the "pleather" holding the strap to the bag with real leather. It looks perfect and it only cost me $8.00. The next "test" will be when I bring him my sorry-ass shoes to be repaired. Will let you know how that goes! read more

let's put it this way. i created this account just so i can rave about the amazing work that they here!! i brought to them 5 of my most favorite shoes, all of which falling apart. i'm talking about new soles, new heels, rips in the leather of my boots, scruffs, dings and dangs. i dropped them off on a tuesday and picked them up by friday and i almost fainted. every single pair looked brand new!!! i've taken shoes to other places and have been severly disappointed. i was hesitant to go at first, but i am so glad i went to ilyau express. the best part was that he was the nicest cobbler in all of the land. i can safely say i have a cobbler crush ;) if you need your favorite pair of shoes resuscitated from a near death state, bring your shoes here. it's too bad that craftsmen like these guys are hard to come by these days. read more

I went here based on Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed! I brought in the most mangled pair of shoes I've ever owned--embarrassing almost--and he told me they would be no problem to fix. I was sure he was going to shake his head and say forget it, but they had the expertise. Also, the price is definitely right. The repair for two pairs was only fifteen dollars. Both pairs of shoes look new. I don't know how they managed to stretch the leather back on to some parts, but it's truly amazing. As a New York walker and a constant destroyer of shoes, I'll definitely be back here. read more
