I love this cafe because I love the good vibe that this cafe has. All staff are always nice and friendly. The service is amazing. I had pasta, Rigatoni Giardino, and Flat White coffee, and my boyfriend had Chicken Parmigiana and Green Juice. The pasta was like soup pasta, had a very simple salty seasoning, and was in an edible bread bowl. The Green Juice was a very healthy smoothie. The Chicken Parmigiano was also good. Made you feel like family when dining there. Can be a bit of a wait, however, they do turn tables rather quickly. Loved having brunch at Immigrant Son Caffe in the outdoor seating section in Ventura downtown street. I don't typically have pasta for brunch, but the morning carbonara was delicious and loaded with cheesy goodness. We finished the whole thing along with the bread bowl! Though it is nice to share, so I also tried the poblano omelette with pulled chicken. The omelette was a typical omelette, nothing to write home about. I did enjoy having the egg nog latte, a nice spot to have a coffee date and share a bowl of carbonara. I would also come back to try the breakfast lasagna since that seems like a popular item. We are from Texas and camped here for a couple of days, and found Immigrant Son Caffe via Yelp (thank you, Yelp!) while wandering downtown Ventura on Saturday. We were craving Italian, and there are a few on Main Street, but the menu had us wanting to try them. We had probably passed it a couple of times because of all the umbrellas over the tables in front of their sign, so we retraced our steps to them before they closed at 2:00pm. And sooo glad we did! It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside, under one of many umbrellas, to people watch on Main St. And we could have ordered every dish that passed by. We decided on the Rigatoni Pesto and the Chicken Parmesan sandwich. The rigatoni was served in a hand-made bread bowl (see picture). We have never seen a handmade one before, and it was edible and delicious! The generous sandwich had a house-made marinara poured on the side, which you could dip your sandwich in. Also delicious. We tried their handmade cannoli, a plate of 3 different flavor fillings, also delicious. Do you see a pattern here? But to top it off, the waiter also gave each of us one of Nonna's pizzelles, a delicate and light waffle cookie, to take home. Such a nice, family touch- who does that these days?! We were so full from our meal we didn't eat them until the next day (after looking up what a pizzelle is..). And guess what? They were delicious. I was looking for a brunch spot in downtown Ventura and Immigrant Son Caffe had rave reviews (so much it was voted the 5th best brunch spot in the United States!). They're known for their breakfast lasagna, brunch cocktails, and rotating seasonal menu. I opted for the Italian Chopped Salad, Deviled Eggs, and Traditional Breakfast which was really good! One of the things I loved about this place is their portions. They were perfect (not too small or big) and there wasn't room for any leftovers. The vibe check passed with flying colors and I loved all the old school decor from Italy. Our waiter was extremely nice and attentive (go Keegan!). I returned after a couple years and I am happy I did. The service is still A+ and the food/drinks were very good. Their coffee is like crack. I'm not sure what it is, but it's the best coffee I've found at a local restaurant. For breakfast I had a Bloody Mary and breakfast lasagna. Despite being a "double", the Bloody Mary still didn't provide any head change. But that's fine as my goal wasn't to get hammered at 11am. The breakfast lasagna was really good. Taste just like its name. Full of flavor and nice portion. Again, service was excellent l--we had Faith as our server. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive. We had amazing timing and came around 10am - our group of five waited only a few minutes for a table but other groups weren't quite as lucky....there was a line from the hostess stand the whole time after we were seated. Our group got the bacon sampler, breakfast lasagna, lemon poppyseed pancakes, biscuits and gravy and the French omelet. I had really high hopes for the breakfast lasagna but the egg felt overcooked. Cool idea though! The pancakes were suuuuper sweet. The bacon sampler was lots of fun. Ambience was great outside but picnic tables are warped it's easy to spill drinks on the surface. This place never disappoints! The service is great, the ambience is beautiful, and the food is amazing. They have really unique items on their menu and I've never had something I didn't like. They are also very accommodating to my gluten allergy, bringing me gluten free bread instead of the regular focaccia bread. Most recently I got the breakfast charcuterie and it was delicious. I've been eyeing this place since they opened. There's always a line which normally means the food is spot on. My only regret is that I didn't come in previously! At my server's recommendation I had the Breakfast Lasagna. It was absolutely delicious and a unique item you probably can't find anywhere else. Service is top notch and food is over the top. This is delicious, friendly venue for breakfast. The staff is very nice and aim to please. We came early on a Sunday and didn't have a problem getting seated inside. The eclectic menu features Italian versions of many if its items. I ordered the avocado pomodoro toast-- heavenly. The omelettes are good, too, especially the French. Each dish comes with fruit and/or potatoes. The coffee is decent, but I'd highly recommend the healthy green juice, freshly made with the right touch of sweetness. Each meal comes with little flat Italian cookie at the end. I love the atmosphere-- all vintage foreign movie, car, liquor posters fill the walls. I tried their famous breakfast Lasagna, which I was initially hesitant to order because of the thought of marinara with egg but it was delicious and savory. There were still some seats available inside and a short wait outside. The inside is bright and light. They have a nice outside seating area in front of the restaurant on Main Street. They have a wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from - omelettes, eggs benedict, pasta, paninis, salads, as well as other specialties such as waffles, French toast, pancakes, and their breakfast lasagna. They also offer some signature cocktails. I chose the Giovanni omelette. My friends had the French omelette, eggs benedict, and a panini. We also ordered the cinnamon brioche French toast with caramelized bananas to share. Everything was delicious. My omelette was perfectly cooked. It was served with toast, potatoes, and fruit. Usually, you have to choose between potatoes or fruit. I like that I was given both. They also served a little tin of jam, tasted like strawberry, to spread on the toast. The French toast was amazing. The bananas were a great addition and added to the flavor. Everyone was so friendly and service was spot on. Our food came out quickly. We barely waited any time after ordering. This was my first visit, but my friends have visited several times. They say every time they come that it's amazing and everything they have eaten has been delicious. I can't wait to go back. I think my favorite part was the pizzelle they served at the end of the meal. It is made fresh and brought to the table hot in a little white bag. This is the fourth time I've visited Immigrant Son. Sadly, the food wasn't up to par. The ambience was the best part. There are 3 dining areas: cozy interior with vintage posters and lively bar, a sunny patio with tables and benches and umbrellas, and an in-between area that has lots of fresh air, cozy small booths and intimate tables. I like the option to choose from 3 distinct dining areas. Service was friendly and professional. Now the bad news. The bacon flight did not taste fresh. I sampled all 5 flavors, but I would not order again. The Molise Benedict with prosciutto and pancetta was served room temperature, the English muffin barely toasted (still soft), and the eggs undercooked. Potatoes were warmer, but not hot. Great first experience at Immigrant Son Caffe! When we arrived, we were seated immediately outside on their patio. I didn't see the inside of the restaurant since we sat outside. The outside seating has wooden picnic tables that have cute table clothes and cute flowers in a vase. The host who sat us was friendly and our server was great. He was friendly and attentive to us. The menu has a variety of brunch/lunch foods. They have omelettes, paninis, salads, pastas, and other items. So many of their menu items sounded appealing and it was a difficult decision when it came time to order. We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer. It comes with 4 big slices of toast with bruschetta on. This was delicious. For our meals we tried the breakfast lasagna and the cinnamon brioche French toast. Our server said that the breakfast lasagna is a best seller so we had to try it. It is very unique because it's frittata layered with bacon and spinach topped with a fried egg and marinara sauce. The flavors and textures were not my favorite combination. The cinnnamon brioche French toast was good. It comes with 4 pieces of bread. The servings were large enough to share. We also tried the seasonal special frozen blackberry peach sangria. It was not overly sweet which I enjoyed. It was refreshing. Overall, I would come back to Immigrant Son Caffe! read more
