my aunts and uncles were ravingg about this place, good price for good food. So, I made my way out to Shrewsbury on a friday night..bad day to go, had to deal with horrendous traffic, but thats my fault. So after hearing about how amazing this place was, I had my hopes up.... sadly, it did not live up to it's 'name' for my first round i wanted food that was not fried, since that fills you faster. well, that didnt happen, all their food is fried! i wanted simple stir fry or even plain vegetables with garlic! The sushi is made to order, which was a nice surprise...but it was not good, i'll pass on the sushi. the raw oysters were the highlight of my dinner. they shuck the oysters fresh for you. I thought they would be small and not great, but they were decent size and tasty!! two plates of 6 oysters and you have already had your money's worth. for a buffet, the food was replenished often and it was fresh. so no complaints there. For the price, I think I would come back with a group of friends, but this isn't the kinda place I'm going to rave about. I's had better. First of all, it's in a ratty neighborhood. The food is thrown together, mass-produced. I only go there because my niece likes frog's legs and we can't find them anywhere else. And do NOT touch the ice cream - they don't stop rude little kids from climbing up and digging in up to their elbows. The wait staff are detached and unfriendly. You'll never see a smile. They treat their job like a bothersome chore. You won't be greeted and you will often not be thanked. Your server will open the check folder right in front of you to see how much you tipped them. It's hard to make a buffet taste high quality, fresh, and really tasty. I was surprised when my brother took me here and I actually liked the food. There were nicer, harder to make items, some traditional chinese food, and junk food and they were all done pretty well. It's not home cooking, particularly healthy cooking or extremely well-cared for food but it's definitely really tasty buffet food. I can see some of the dishes just being more like junk food, and not being that great, but that's pretty typical and expected. My point is that there's lots of fresh gems here, and probably everyone can find a dish they like. This is an atypical buffet place. These all blend together in non-descript memories of being over full, slightly sleepy, but quasi satisfied that "I got my money's worth". The IB stands out because they have some unique offerings and most of the food is actually pretty good. There's a lot of food to choose from and it's pretty cheap. Our favorite would have to be the crawfish, but they only have those when it's in season. I would drive 40 minutes just for crawfish. Also the crab legs are yummy. Ooo the oysters is the best! My boyfriend think this is a good value so that's why he likes it. We were traveling from N.E. PA to Worcester. Asked a friend to recommend a nearby Chinese Buffet. This was it. We stopped in at 5 p.m. In our home area, a lunch-time meal w/water or tea and dessert (along w/the buffet) costs $14.75 for two senior citizens, so we expected to pay just a bit more, being as it was suppertime. Many, many choices of foods to select from. Those containing dough were "tough," probably because the heating lamps had been shining on the food for a while. Food was ok, but not as good as our food at home. Many servers were present. Shock of all was when we got our bill for $34.13 (which did not include a tip)! Yikes! We were planning to go to Udupi Bhavan which is next door to the Imperial Buffet, but ended up at this place. We were greeted cordially and the waitress lead us to our seating area. The place was crowded. It was little challenging to get your food from the buffet and come back to your seat without stopping on the way multiple times to be courteous to others. The quality of the buffet was good over all. I was impressed with the variety of items in the buffet though. Some of the items I loved 1. Boiled crab, 2. fried Crab, 3. Crawfish, 4. Sushi u can order and freshly made and the price of dinner buffet is $16 Some of things to watch out for 1. Really sad how much this restaurant has gone down in quality. My family of 5 went tonight for dinner. We arrived at 5:30 pm and about 1/3 of the trays were already empty. Without writing a very long, itemized list of what was wrong with each item, I will say that most items were room temperature or cooler, including the soup. Something was really wrong with the beef teriyaki - the meat was bad. Some of the fruit in the dessert area was fermented. The list is long - and it is $15 a person (with no drink). When we were getting ready to leave at 7:00 pm, that is when they started to re-filI some of the trays. I can't give it one star because we really tried to find some good in every place and the staff was attentive and pleasant. But the low food quality of the buffet was too much overlook. While ordering drinks it became clear the waiters knew nothing more than a handful of english phrases. Not the biggest deal, but when the waiters need to hold a conference to determine which drink you ordered, come find you while getting food, bring you the wrong drink, bring you the menu and then just realize you wanted a Captain Morgan and Coke, is a little frustrating. Moving onto the food. The general gaos, the white rice, and the french fries were palatable. The wontons in the soup were soft and suitable for my grandmother who lacks teeth. I felt bad and worried that putting the food aside to be picked up would result in the 20% penalty being enforced, but I couldn't stomach any more "food". I went back for seconds, a spattering of chinese buffet staples: french fries, pizza, pork fried rice, vegetable lo mein (retch), and sugar donuts (woohoo). I had to spit out my chicken on a stick after one bite. We really didn't even think to complain, we just wanted to get out of there. Honestly, the wait staff would have had difficulties understanding the feedback and it is apparent after watching several gordon ramsey shows that this place is the product of poor management. Signs everywhere for 20% penalties, signs for no running, the security system was even impressive, 17 bucks a person. JUST STAY HOME. When we tried to check out, our waitress looked over the tip we gave them and grimaced (she got 8 bucks, so not too bad for 70 buck bill) and complained that her pen was missing. The Imperial Buffet has ok food, but the people working there were a bit too "authentic" for my taste. I understand that they like to have actual Chinese people working there, but come on. The hostess out front spoke little to no English to the point of being unhelpful. The waitress was... Understandable if you were really trying, but when asking a question out in the buffet area, the woman did not know one word of English. Now, the food was ok, nothing that can't be matched by your local take out place, and I was disappointed by the lack of beef teriyaki. The things this place does well, they do pretty well, and the things they fail at, man do they fail hard. I've mostly gone for the lunch buffet, but I've gone to the dinner buffet once, so I'll try to mention both. The selection is huge. They kind of go for quantity over quality, I think, but the nice thing about a huge spread is that you can usually find things that you like. There's one older gentleman at the sushi / hibachi bar who is REALLY grumpy and occasionally downright rude. One time, my parents and I went and got sushi at the same time, and my dad (who was ahead of me in the line) put a pretty big tip in the tip jar, since it was for all of us. When it was my turn and I got my sushi, the man looked at me, pointed to the tip jar, and said, "Tip goes there." I was stunned. Who says that?! It's not a tip if you demand it. The dessert selection is pretty big and mostly delicious. The raw oyster bar was fine, and the sushi is decent and basic but nothing to write home about. While I understand their rationale behind putting a limit on how much sushi each person can order, it's still a little jarring and off-putting to see a sign about it. So, overall, it's a decent place for food that has some eccentricities that come with being an inexpensive buffet place. read more

The only reason why I am rating this place pretty high is because the ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI bar and RAW OYSTERS at an affordable price ( I don't remember the price... sorry.. but it was less than 20 a person) Also the decor is quite pretty with the fish pond but dinnertime with raw oysters and sushi is most exciting to me! Great place for a chinese buffet. We always go there when we crave seafood for cheap. And you get lots of it. Made to order sushi, raw oysters and clams and tons of steamed and sauteed crab. Also a wide collection of traditional chinese stirfry, soups, appetizers and desserts. The waitress are nice, but the sushi and oyster guys are snobby. If you dont tip them well, they will stare over your heads to the other side of the hall and ignore you. Disgruntled, maybe? I typically only eat here when my parents want to go. Overall, it's a pretty good deal...they have sushi and raw clams/oysters (which I don't really trust), fairly decent Americanized/Not-Americanized Chinese offerings (for a buffet), and some of the "American" stuff like french fries and clam chowder. I always stray away from the American food anyways. I had a couple of the clams and some cooked sushi (shrimp and eel). I just can't trust these kinda of places, but I decided to try it anyways. I'm not in pain, so I guess the clams were A-ok. Overall, it's just another typical Chinese super-buffet place, just a tad "better" cuz of the sushi and decent Chinese offerings. However, the best part of the meal is the glorious music. Where else can I listen to Whitney Houston, Eric Clapton, Celine Dion , etc. while I am stuffing my face? After plate number 3, I felt a bit dizzy from the MSG overload and decided to call it quits.I tend to ignore all health concerns when I go to these types of places, cuz then you would end up eating only fruit. What's the point? But anyways, I ate a lot and got my money's worth. I guess I should be glad that Celine Dion was assuring my Heart Would Go On after grease overload. This place used to be great! I would go twice a week without fail. Over the last 6 - 8 months, everything has gone downhill. My girlfriend has always complained, but I dismissed that to she was picky. Last time I went with the kids a few weeks ago, I almost wanted to walk right out. My 5 year old loves it though so I stayed for her. Food has a funny taste now, and it's just all out bad. The only things I used to love going there for were the sushi and the crablegs. Crablegs are gone, and the sushi isnt that great that I would go only for that. Also, if the quality of everything else is low grade, makes you wonder what type of RAW fish you're eating. Came here during a Saturday night. They have a good variety of food, except of poor quality. So you get for what you pay for. What completely ruined my dinning experience was the rude worker behind oyster/clams bar. I approached the oyster/clams bar and asked for 6 oysters. The worker answered with the most dissatisfying and aggravated manner: "I'm working on this plate" (the plate before mine). Then he gave me a dirty look. Then I said "I know, I'm just letting you know what I want." and walked away. Jesus Christ! Am I suppose to drop my empty plate at the bar, say nothing and walk away?! How the hell do you know what I want if I don't say anything?! I thought maybe he's having a bad day, but in about a minute or 2, I see other diners going up to him and he's all smiley and cooperative (they happened to be non-asians).
