Off-the-chain OUTSTANDING. I had AAA flat bed my 2012 6-spd Vette to Raju and company a few days ago at the recommendation of a friend who's been bringing his Vettes here for years. I couldn't shift it into reverse and was thinking I was looking at either shifter replacement or transmission work. Raju investigated the shifter and the lock-out solenoid atop the transmission. Turns out the issue was evidently a wiring issue at that solenoid. Raj re-seated the solenoid and took the car out for a spin. Problem resolved! The shop also gave me a reasonable estimate for replacing the solenoid down the road, should it later be necessary to do so. What's it worth to you to have an honest, efficient mechanic like this?? BEWARE. They do sloppy, horrible jobs and completely ruined my car. I gave these guys many chances and now I have a very annoying and expensive mistake to deal with. First I took the car to them for an Oil Change a few weeks ago and told them to do a check- up to make sure everything was allright with my old Civic. Obviously they did not do an extensive one, because the car broke down from overheating a week later. I decided to have it towed back there because it was close, and they said that they did not check fluids during check ups (really?!) and that my overheating was just due to a broken radiator cap, so I let them "fix" this and was happy it only cost ~$100. Fast forward to exactly one week later... my car broke down again from overheating. Luckily, I pull into a gas station where the owner took a look and says the pipe/hose connecting to the fluids was not installed properly when it was "fixed" by Import Auto Service. Finally, I took my car to the dealer and they said it was totalled (would cost $5,000 - $6,000 to fix) because of a broken cylinder, due to driving too much while it was overheating. So, I basically have a TOTALLED vehicle because of these guys. When I called to tell them about this, they said "Oh sure, bring it back in but we will only give you maximum $50 if it was our mistake." Max $50??? for a totalled car that was their fault for 1) not checking what was wrong with it in the first place and then 2) not properly fixing the problem? Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!!! read more

If I could leave this place negative stars, I would. Over the course of six month I paid them about $2500 for a check light on my Volvo S40. They said according to their computer the steps they took in fixing the problems were accurate. Once I got my car back the 3rd time, the check light was still on. They told me I needed to go to the dealership to get the ecu flashed. And that I had to pay for that. What pissed me off the most is that I asked the for the parts back both times they did repairs (timing belt, solenoid) etc and they threw them out. I was completely ripped off and there is nothing I can do. They said they are a cheaper alternative to the dealership and they might be but do not get any major work done here. They never called me I always had to call them. Worst service ever. Went to a different garage to fix the check light and $100 later it was fixed. read more

I have to say I am TOTALLY impressed with the service I received. I was traveling through Washington DC when My vehicle started overheating on I-95. Panicked, I looked for the nearest Mechanic. I got off the highway at a local gas station and low and behold they had a mechanic on duty. They quickly diagnosed that it was NOT the radiator but just a sending unit. A quick order from the parts store and about a hour later we were back on the road good as new. Their prices were extremely reasonable and I felt confident with their work. I've been meaning to leave this review for a while. These guys are AWESOME. They are honest and capable, and can handle anything that the dealership claims only they can do. Most shops will quote you one price, the dealership will quote you twice that and Import Auto Service will actually charge you what it's worth, which always happens to be less. They come highly recommended by other mechanics and are just so nice and helpful. I don't get depressed any more when I have serious car trouble because I know I won't have to sell a kidney and go through the headache of haggling with a crooked mechanic. On the whole, I'd say my experience here was negative. Have a 99' BMW M3. Original clutch finally went out, so I took it to these guys, as we live close by. Clutch was fixed, but first and reverse gears came back all messed up (super rough to put in gear; requires so much strength my wife can't drive the car anymore). Mechanic claims it's the gearbox itself -- BMW of Alexandria says its the way these guys put in the clutch. Who knows -- shifting was fine when I brought the car to them. I tried to save a little $$ -- shouldn't have bothered. Pretty expensive mistake on my part. read more

So I went in to get a quick oil change and inspection and it took me over 2 hours to get the job done. In addition they rejected my car because I refuse to pay $16 for a light bulb that cost me $4 at the auto store. I fixed the light bulb and came back thinking all they would need to do is see the lights on and change the rejection sticker. Nope, they had me wait in line for another hour - the total time spent was 3 hrs. I have been coming to this location since 2007 and you would think they would extend me courtesies just from being a loyal customer. In addition, their prices have skyrocketed to the point I don't even use their services anymore besides getting all change and inspections. If you are going to pay their current prices, you may as well go to a dealership or find any of the other mechanics in the area that will do the job at a cheaper price. Now about the customer service, the organization needs to learn how to implement personality and the ability to make the customers feel important; especially with the prices they are charging. However, to be fair, the only good customer service I have received from there on a continuous basis is from the tall African-American guy that talks a lot, but clearly funny with personality. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I expect better from any organization that is taking my money. Especially when I've been giving you business for over 7 years. This is a highly unprofessional business. They never call you, even when they promise they will, so you always have to call them to learn anything. Their estimates for when the services will be completed are incredibly inaccurate and a repair that was supposed to take one day took four because they "just started working on it" at the original time you were told to retrieve your vehicle. They will also tell you that "they are almost finished" for two days in a row. They often fail to address specific and major concerns, such as a steering-wheel fluid leak, that they promised to address when you initially brought your vehicle. You car will also be returned in a filthier state, both in the interior and exterior. read more

We have been bringing our cars here for the last three years. We have them do most of the work on our 2008 5 series BMW, 2001 330i, and 2006 Land Rover LR3. At least two of the mechanics here are exceptional. They know BMWs extremely well. I have had many negative experiences with area BMW service centers (poor quality work, being charged for work not done/parts not replaced, outrageous pricing). It's refreshing to deal with honest mechanics who know what they're doing. They have the equipment to reset BMW service intervals, even on the 528xi, which tracks everything from the VA inspection to the age of the brake fluid. They use quality products (e.g., AMSoil and BG) for oil changes and flushes. Their bills usually come in at about 50% of what I'd expect to pay (or have been quoted) at a BMW dealership. I tend to be obsessive about he maintenance of our vehicles (I do not follow the longer fluid change intervals that BMW now recommends; I tend to follow Mike Miller of BMW CCA's "old school maintenance" schedule). We typically keep our cars for at least 10 years, and I strive to have them running at like-new performance levels. The people at Import Auto Service have worked with me to identify the right services for our cars, and when it comes to repairs, their diagnoses have always been accurate and corresponding repairs reasonable. read more

Before coming to this shop I had tried another that called themselves specialists on imports. My bill was almost always over $1000 and that was twenty years ago. My first charge here was under $100 and my car was fixed. I've been with this company ever since and have always felt at ease knowing our cars were safe and so was our family riding in them. Most importantly, they do not suggest work that you really don't need. They have saved me a fortune over repair shops I had experienced before Import Auto Service. They always check with me, and give me an estimate of the cost, before doing any work. They are conveniently located on Edsall Road just off of I-395 so it is easy for someone to pick me up when I drop off the car on the way to work. I couldn't be happier with this establishment.
