We went here for breakfast while in New York with a friend. Got to sit outside, which was great. It was an awesome day, a little cool, but it was beautiful in the street. Actually quite quiet even though you're on the street. Our waitress was great, and took our order pretty quickly. As it was breakfast, the only drinks we got were coffee and juices and water. But all were wonderful. My wife and I split the avocado toast, which was perfect. Fantastic flavors, and a really good size portion that was just the right amount. In Common NYC was a total last-minute find for my husband and me, and one of those rare "we got lucky today" moments. I was coming back from a client meeting and he had a break between work calls, so we met here on the fly. We somehow walked in without a line, which I now understand is not the norm at all. The food really surprised us in the best way. I had the avocado toast with a side of scrambled eggs and a London fog latte. My husband had a flat white and the ricotta toast with figs, which was easily the standout for me--I'd go back just for that. The table next to us ordered French toast and I genuinely regretted not having more space to try it. Service was friendly, quick, and helpful without overdoing it. The space is bright and comfortable, with big windows that make it feel open and airy even when it fills up. There's also outdoor seating, which we'll definitely try next time. Got lucky and scored a table this morning before there was a long line to get in. (Think we arrived a little after 9am...didn't see anywhere to make a reservation). I wasn't sure there would be table service based on photos and reviews I spied previously, but yes-there is. The owner was running the show and he has a lovely Australian accent. The menu is not overwhelming and there are enough options for whatever you might want. It's not a huge space and can get a little tight...so maybe don't bring a pile of luggage with you. I think the flavor could have a bit more variety, comparing to some other shakshukas I've had in other cities, but the eggs were surely boiled to the perfect temperature & texture. We were greeted at entry and thanked at exit multiple times. My group got a range of items. The poached eggs in the shakshuka were cooked perfectly. I ordered the eggplant katsu sandwich, and was very pleased with how crispy the eggplant was! Their cold brew was very dark and concentrated, which is not my preference but my partner was happy with it, especially because the serving is pretty small (same size cup as the iced latte pictured in this post). The dishes were small but came with sourdough bread. We asked for a slice of lemon and also asked for butter. We were charged for both butter and lemon. I came in with no expectations, and left absolutely blown away, not just by the food, but by the entire experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the owner, Tass, who personally introduced himself and informed us of the wait time. That level of hospitality immediately set the tone. And while there was a bit of a wait, don't let that deter you, it's more than worth it. The interior ambiance is cozy yet modern, with thoughtful details that make you feel right at home. I came with a group of friends, and we began our brunch with a round of drinks: chamomile tea and chai lattes (both iced and hot) each one was perfectly brewed and full of flavor. From there, we basically sampled the entire menu, and I have zero regrets. Every dish was crafted with care and packed with flavor. Highlights included the avocado toast, the shakshuka, the Bene, French toast, and the scrambled eggs, each plate better than the last. I wrapped it all up with a refreshing green tea that was the perfect end to the meal. If I lived in NYC, In Common would 1000% be my go-to cafe. Do not go here if you have any dietary restrictions. I'm allergic to eggs and want to get the breakfast sandwich with out egg. The server said absolutely not and that they don't allow any restrictions. I then tried to order three sides and she said absolutely not again that each person needs to order a main meal. Even though all my sides would equal a higher amount than one of the main courses. She then said I had to order berries and cream or granola...even though I don't like sweets. As someone in the service industry, I can understand being busy and trying to turn tables can be difficult in such a small space with lines waiting outside to be seated, but the constant checking on by wait staff gave the impression that we were being hurried out of the restaurant while we were enjoying our food and drinks.
