Absolutely love this little spot! My friend and I have been here twice within a week because the food was just that good. Such a cute, cozy café vibe. My kids loved it too. My son said they have the best eggs he's ever had. I had the eggs bene both times, my friend had the French toast both times. We tried the beet salad as well to share. Everything tastes fresh, the portions are perfect and it was delicious. Jacklyn (sorry if I'm misspelling) was our waitress both times and is an absolute gem. So friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and she was wonderful with my kids. All the other employees we interacted with were welcoming and helpful as well. The owner was also extremely nice and took a few moments to chat with us after our meal. We found this place completely by chance and it's already become one of our favorite breakfast/brunch spots in the city. And the coffee is SO good. If it wasn't for the outdoor seating I would have not noticed. I'm so glad I walked it to check it out. It is a breakfast and brunch very modern cafe with Australian and American selections. The menu is so interesting because their selections are different. I tried the Chicken Katsu which had shredded cabbage, tonkatsu sauce, potato bun. The bread was amazing, I didn't have potato bun.It was so good, I wanted to go back after work and get another one. So fresh and tasty! I also ordered a side of avocado that had very lightly spritzed with olive oil and a spice. The person I dined with had shakshuka . I had a bite and it was amazing!! We went here for breakfast while in New York with a friend. Got to sit outside, which was great. It was an awesome day, a little cool, but it was beautiful in the street. Actually quite quiet even though you're on the street. Our waitress was great, and took our order pretty quickly. As it was breakfast, the only drinks we got were coffee and juices and water. In Common NYC was a total last-minute find for my husband and me, and one of those rare "we got lucky today" moments. I was coming back from a client meeting and he had a break between work calls, so we met here on the fly. We somehow walked in without a line, which I now understand is not the norm at all. The food really surprised us in the best way. I had the avocado toast with a side of scrambled eggs and a London fog latte. My husband had a flat white and the ricotta toast with figs, which was easily the standout for me--I'd go back just for that. The table next to us ordered French toast and I genuinely regretted not having more space to try it. Service was friendly, quick, and helpful without overdoing it. The space is bright and comfortable, with big windows that make it feel open and airy even when it fills up. There's also outdoor seating, which we'll definitely try next time. The menu is not overwhelming and there are enough options for whatever you might want. It's not a huge space and can get a little tight...so maybe don't bring a pile of luggage with you. Seating is limited, and if you want to sit, you must order off the menu. That makes perfect sense given the sky-high cost per square foot in this neighborhood. The menu is impressively eclectic and interesting, with Manhattan prices -- expect to pay around $30 per person. But here's the best part: the food absolutely delivers. I came in around 12pm in a Tuesday, and there's no wait. The place was cutely decorated. The Shakshuka was very good - not impressively good, but very good. I think the flavor could have a bit more variety, comparing to some other shakshukas I've had in other cities, but the eggs were surely boiled to the perfect temperature & texture. Avocado on the side was very fresh. Iced latte was, uhh, iced latte. The taste of the beans were on the bitter side, but it somewhat tasted watery; bitter and watery made kind of a weird combo. If you really do want to order coffee here, I'd recommend hot coffee instead of anything iced. The food price was very decent for the taste. I think coffees were overpriced for the quality. We were greeted at entry and thanked at exit multiple times. My group got a range of items. The poached eggs in the shakshuka were cooked perfectly. I ordered the eggplant katsu sandwich, and was very pleased with how crispy the eggplant was! Their cold brew was very dark and concentrated, which is not my preference but my partner was happy with it, especially because the serving is pretty small (same size cup as the iced latte pictured in this post). I wrapped it all up with a refreshing green tea that was the perfect end to the meal. If I lived in NYC, In Common would 1000% be my go-to cafe. Do not go here if you have any dietary restrictions. I'm allergic to eggs and want to get the breakfast sandwich with out egg. The server said absolutely not and that they don't allow any restrictions. I then tried to order three sides and she said absolutely not again that each person needs to order a main meal. Even though all my sides would equal a higher amount than one of the main courses. She then said I had to order berries and cream or granola...even though I don't like sweets. In Common Café is such a cute spot! We stopped by on a busy weekend morning and it was packed--there was even a line to sit and eat, which says a lot about how popular it is. Since we were short on time, we grabbed our coffee to go, and even though it took a little while, it was totally worth the wait.
