Coming to this location made me realize that all other In-N-Outs are messing up their Animal Style burgers. Wikipedia confirmed for me, "Animal Style burgers include pickles, extra spread, grilled onions, and mustard fried onto each meat patty." Every other In-N-Out I have been to in the last few years has not included pickles on the Animal Style burger, and phones it in on the mustard-patty thing. This location did a true Animal Style that made me realize what I've been missing all this time. Grilled onions alone does not an Animal burger make. Although these people are seriously impressive, working their butts off in a tiny closet of a store in 90-degree-plus Pasadena heat, there is still a huge line that spills out onto Foothill Blvd any time you drive by. In-N-Out is an LA icon, and has been for decades. However, I'm not the most avid of its fans. The burgers are truly divine: well-done meat, fresh buns, and crisp lettuce. The fries, however, flat out suck. They are always soggy, never crispy. And the lines . . . always way too long. All in all, I'd eat from there if it's offered to me, but I personally wouldn't go out of my way to go there. read more

Pasadena In-N-Out is the best in California and one of the first. The food menu has been the same since the 1970's and the prices have not gone up that much either. The burgers always have the same quality taste and honestly is one of the best burgers around. The only burger I like close to the In-N-Burger might be the Carl's Junior SuperStar with Cheese, but your burger and fries meal at Carls Jr. cost about $8.00 compared to about $5.00 at In-N-Out. You know In-N-Out Pasadena is good and even better than a lot of other In-N-Out's. It has a line down the street everyday, all day, all night still the close causing traffic jams. Fortunately, for us In-N-Out fans, there are plenty of people in Pasadena that do not know there is one in Pasadena. This is because it is on Foothill Blvd, right before Foothill becomes Walnut. The same location it has been since this store opened I think in the mid to late 60's. The building, parking and look had never changed, though they keep it well maintained and keep the lawn and mini-flower garden updated. Don't ask, Don't tell - lets keep them a secret. They are the cheapest, best-tasting burger and fries in Pasadena. During the summer months, In-N-Out's outside patio is reminiscent of the midwestern cities - where highschools kids hang out and have often ended up courting the girl they will eventually marry. I think Pasadena's In-N-Out is unique that way. There are very few Los Angeles County cities where HighSchoolers like to hang out during the summer eatting burgers. This In-N-Out has had that reputation since it first opened, there is simply something unique about being young and hanging out at In-N-Out in Pasadena. Having traveled around and eatten at many In-N-Out's in Southern California, this one is just popular. Maybe it's because it is so retro to the kick-back summer surfing and crusin days. read more

Super long wait times, lukewarm food, messed up orders and general chaos around lunch, dinner, latenight... basically all the time. I feel a little bad for fading all the 4 and 5 star reviews of this place, but its gotten to the point I'll drive out to the Arcadia or Eagle Rock locations just to feed the crave. It's not on a busy street, so if you see a bunch of traffic, it's probably because of this place. But don't fear. I don't know how they do it, but they bring down the car line really fast. This particular location is tiny and one of those drive-ups (although you can order at the walk-up too) and yes it is always busy. The car line is usually well down the street. The customer service is amazing-everyone is super nice (HOW do they manage to get everyone to be so nice??). As I was waiting in my car to get to the cashier, I watched the kitchen staff and WOW they work fast. Easily the worst In-N-Out I have been to. They initially got the order incorrect. Then the fries were cold and soggy. And finally the burgers were overcooked and the ingredients were subpar (barely any lettuce, barely any tomato, the onion was off, and the burgers were just all-around dry). I've seen several others give this location a lower than normal ranking for In-N-Out besides me. It feels like In-N-Out corporate should do a surprise audit or review of this location to ensure that the product sold here is at their level of expectations. I've been to over a dozen In-N-Out locations and this one far and away had the worst quality. Hopefully people don't measure their first In-N-Out experience based on this location. #1 Animal style, well done fries please. Yes that is the order I always get. There are so many of these places, but its a SoCal Staple. I have friends who fly in from out of town, and they mention they want to go to an In-N-Out and I will say ok...theres one five minutes away from LAX. I love the fact that these guys work real hard and try to get the orders out as quick as possible. The food is always on point and if there is something wrong they always try to alleviate it immediately. This location in particular is in a bad spot, the amount of people can sometimes back into street which always worrys me. With that being said I still will give any In-N-Out 4 stars because I grew up on it and it hasn't change. The secret menu is not so secret anymore, but thats what happens when you get a following and since its been around for so long. I used to order 4X4s but I definitely can't eat that much anymore. This happens to be the oldest operating In-N-Out Burger. It is also the fourth In-N-Out Burger to be built. The original In-N-Out was torn down to make way for the I-10 freeway. This is the oldest In-N-Out that is currently still operating. Awesome Burgers & Fries & Shakes, two lanes for drive-thru and a walk up window for take-out. It just has a "Classic " Feel to it. Great In-N-Out place!! Although there's always a looong line in front of it, it's always worth it! The staff is great and pleasant, and the service is quick. Food is fresh and delicious, and they are always willing to customize it for you with no hassle or attitude (like making it medium rare, etc.) They have a few outside tables behind the restaurant you can enjoy your meal at, but we almost always take it to go. This location is extremely busy during lunch time and I get that. However it has happened to me on two separate occasions where I have been waiting to order at the walk up window and never got the chance to order. I was the second person in line each time and stood for 14 min and 17 min respectively. The cashier just kept telling us to hold on a few more minutes. I ended having to leave each time. read more

I love In-n-Out; the double-double is my favorite burger. If you have read some of my other reviews of other burger places, you would know this already. This is the In-n-Out place that I grew up with. It is now the oldest In-n-Out in its original location (the original Baldwin Park site is now gone). It has always been the In-n-Out location of choice for me. But not any more, despite the historical connection. Everyone knows In-n-Out; the food is consistent (consistently good) throughout the chain. And my recommendation is to go to another branch. The drive thru line here was always long, but tolerable especially when there was no other choice as branches used to be few and far between. Now the line has become unbearable. And yes, there are drivers that cut in the line (ever since the 70s). Ordering at the counter will not help in getting the food out to you faster. What's the purpose when there are nicer branches in San Gabriel, Arcadia, Temple City, Rosemead, etc.? This was MY In-n-Out drive thru and sadly I now have to give it 1 star. It is time to retire this place and open another reasonable size Pasadena In-n-Out with good drive thru access. read more

I have been to this location over 6 times because it is close to my job. Every time I ask for the burger well done because of a medical issue and it's always pink. I even ask for it cut in half to make sure there is no pink in there and it still is. I got attitude when I sent it back because they were busy. What crappy line configuration but it's In and Out so I mustn't whine. For those that don't know you can order well done and get less pink burgers and crispy fries. It's been done. I absolutely love and often crave In and Out. I usually get the well done protein and animal style with well done animal style fries. I love to get the strawberry shake for it's bits of real strawberry mixed in there but nothing beats dipping your fries into a frosty chocolate shake. I use to live within walking distance from this joint so the lines never bothered but now that I'm far from any of them I have to pick a time that I know won't be too busy. Who am I kidding? Can you really go wrong with a double double for lunch? We come out to this location frequently for lunch to have a burger and fries. There is no parking for this location. I believe it has about 3 parking spots. We usually end up parking around the block on the street to be able to come out and eat here. There is no inside dinning it is all outside and there are about 8 round tables to sit at. Keep in mind at lunch they get crowded and you usually have to sit in the sun which is no fun. There is only one window to order from and they use the same window to pick up your order. I don't know why they have not figured out they need separate windows. One to order and one to pick up. It would make things a lot easier. Occasionally they put a cashier outside so that you can order outside and use the window for pick up. What I don't understand is why don't they set up that way before the lunch crowed. They usually always wait for the crowed to form and for people to get irritated by the wait before going out and having them take your order outside freeing up the one window for pick up. The food is great. Always hot and made to order. I always get their number 1 combo which is the double double with onions, fries and a coke. Burgers are juicy and cooked perfectly. Fries are good but keep in mind if you want them crispy you need to order them well done. I really enjoy In N Out and like their food it's just the little things like parking and the way their ordering system works that makes it a pain sometimes. The motto of this place i very fitting, this place is what a hamburger is all a out... a lot of hamburger joints these days have gotten a near mythic reputation... in n out is one of the few that actually lives up to how awesomely delicious their Burger are...(see fat burger, and tommy's and how inconsistent their food is...) They're not just delicious some of the time, the consistently delicious. We're lucky to have in n outs sprinkled all over LA...but regardless of which one u go to you know that their food is going to be good... with that said this particular one... yes this one on foothill... 2114 east foothill blvd in Pasadena, CA SUCKS... and I don't say this because of the food or the service... Its just the opposite... when I get up to the front they're friendly, speedy, courteous, and the food *speechless* but the wait is horrendous... (valley girl) omg like sometimes the wait is like excruciatingly long....(end valley girl) the line of cars would be so long that it goes almost all the around the whole block...we're talking a line of 15-20 cars when you come near lunch of dinner time. The question when you look at your watch and crave the crack cocaine of burgers at the wee hours of lunch or dinner is "is this burger worth the 20-30 minutes of my life today?" apparently so because the line is constantly long. I've succumbed to their addictive burgers and yes i've waited sat in line angry, in constant conflict with myself, "should i stay? but i'm hungry... should i go? but I'm so close to the front...! just 5 more cars!!!" Grilled cheese has never tasted so good, especially because of there grilled onions and special sauce wow!! Shakes are creamy and rich- you must try the chocoloate! The best part about eating at InNOut is that you don't get that nasty sick feeling afterword (unless you over-eat) because everything is fresh -bunn, tomato, lettuce and cheese are all fresh and the real deal. In-N-Out Burger, for those of you who might not know, has been a Southern California Institution for over 60 years. Like, really. So what if they only have 5 items on their menu? Guaranteed this will be the freshest fast food you've ever had. And for those in the know, you can always customize your order, or order off their "secret menu." Their website and other sites have a listing of what's on the secret menu, but you can always just ask a regular what they get. I usually get the double-double, animal style -- basically a burger with two mustard-cooked patties, pickles, thousand island, and grilled onions. YUM. I had my fries animal-style once, but couldn't really taste the potato under all that sludge. So I usually get my fries plain -- and for good reason, because they're some of the best fries around, made from fresh potatoes. If you're cruising for a coronary, add a pure ice cream shake to your order. Choose from vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry. That's it. But they're all good (and they'll mix flavors too). Be warned -- there's no indoor seating at this location. There's a walk-up counter and a double-drive thru, all with huge lines at any given time of day, so be ready to wait at least 15 minutes for your food. The staff here, however, is always top-notch and very friendly. Also, the ONE time someone screwed up my order, I called the main hotline and they sent me a voucher for a free meal. How's that for customer service? Mind you, this doesn't happen very often. I mean, I was surprised enough to actually call it in -- and they totally apologized and took care of me.
