This location in the Signal Hill area wasn't too crowded this time, well I mean it had lines still but wasn't totally out the door. We went in to dine. The inside was nice and clean and looked just like all the rest of the In N Outs. I already know what my crew wants, so I do the ordering since I'm the one paying. For me I get my Double Double Animal style with extra grilled onions, order of fries and a drink. I guess they have that on the menu at a #1. The one other girl on the crew want her Double Double Protein style, meaning it's a lettuce wrap with no bun. But then she want fries animal style ... so much for cutting the carbs! The rest of the guys get what I have. The food is up in not too much time and I go up from our table and get it from the counter. It all looks yummy as hell like always. The associates at In-N-Out are so friendly and very careful about getting your order right, no matter how busy it gets. This location in Signal Hill is the closest to our home, and we have been here before. So when we had an errand to run in the area, stopped by here for carry-out, even though there was dining space available. Service was great, the food this time wasn't the greatest. It was a rainy New Years Eve, so they were running their 'Kids get free Hot Cocoa' promo, and people were taking advantage. Even with such a very small published menu, there is definitely in-n-out terminology that will help the ordering process. But if you don't know it, the cashiers have always been kind in explaining/confirming. This time was no exception. The food does take a while to be ready, since each burger is only started once the order is made. The burgers were prepared nicely for carryout in a paper box to minimize squishing, and the fries were in a separate paper bag. I got a double-double animal style, replacing the grilled onions with whole grilled onions ($6.35). In terms of the taste, the novelty has definitely been replaced by appreciation for their consistency. That being said, it wasn't a great day for toppings today...it's still whole leaves (not shredded) but there wasn't as much of it, resulting it being past wilting and getting near slimy territory (though the other burgers seemed OK). Not great. Only their spread (a thousand island like sauce, for me, tasting similar to Big Mac sauce) is available on the main menu, though one can ask for ketchup or mustard (no mayo, though). We got 3 cheeseburgers as well ($4.40 each) and the rest of our party seemed to enjoy theirs. As for the fries (2 at $2.40) each...they really need to be eaten immediately, with added salt and ketchup. It's probably the cleanest french fries one can get (just freshly cut potatoes, fried in sunflower oil), but isn't great in taste, fast food wise. They only have one size, and two servings was fine for the four of us. Having no freezers in the stores means having to use freshly hand cut fries, which sounds great, but doesn't reach the ceiling what a freshly fried Mickey D's fry can (sometimes) attain. read more

I am lucky to have this In-N-Out around the block from my house. From the moment we came in, the cashier was all smiles, attentive and gave my toddler a hat and crayons. As soon as we sat down, a gentleman working the tables area offered us ketchup and peppers, think his name was with the letter Z? Wrote down their names but can't find the receipt. Unpopular opinion, but I'm gonna say it: In-N-Out ain't all that. It's rather mediocre and way overrated. When I was younger, I loved the animal style cheeseburger, animal style fries and Neapolitan milkshake. The prices have fortunately not changed much, which is pretty amazing for these inflated times. As I have had much better burgers over the years and various delicious fries, going back to In-N-Out is a serious let down. The patties are so thin and small, you could miss them in a protein lettuce wrap. The fries have a strange spongy, dry texture to them and I find American cheese to taste like plastic. What was once an enticing "animal style" topping is just that cheap cheese, thousand island dressing, relish and grilled onions. Well, the grilled onions are still good and the ingredients are fresh as they say; they don't have freezers. I hear their fries are just potatoes, canola oil and a little salt, but I have made fries at home and they do not have that strange spongy texture like In-N-Out. The milkshake is still thick and hits. The customer service has been consistently solid. They were so patient and kind to guests asking for things and changing their orders at the pick-up area during my last visit. I guess In-N-Out provides nostalgia and cheap, fairly fresh fast food to many. I'd rather go to Five Guys with more topping options, bigger, juicier patties and awesome fries. read more

It wasn't busy, and our order was quickly taken by a friendly young man. While the guys waited for our order at a table, I checked out the restroom. Impressive. Clean and lacking for nothing. The food was very good. My burger was delicious, and I did enjoy the fries that the guys shared with me. Fried foods don't agree with me, so I only had a few. They were very good, and I would have eaten more if I could guarantee that my digestive tract wouldn't be upset! I will definitely give In-N-Out burgers another try next time we're in CA. This is the worst In-N-out that I've been too. I've been to this location a few times because it's the closest and every time I hate it. Today we were driving home and stopped there. I gave it one last chance and NEVER again. I ordered light well fries and a cheeseburger mustard fried with extra lettuce. This is not extra lettuce. Extra lettuce should have been balled up in palm and shaped nicely. Meat should always be showing but as seen in the other photo it wasn't. I had to push the burger from the bottom up to see the meat I was given the scraps of the bottom tray. My boyfriend got a double double and this burger had no smile which is a standard. This was my first time on the west coast, so I had to try the acclaimed In-N-Out. I stopped by around 7:45 pm for a late dinner and was surpised by the large crowd and packed dining room. There was a short line at the register; however, the cashiers were moving people through quickly. I ordered a Cheeseburger with Fries and a Diet Coke. A seemingly iconic order from the west coast staple. I wish I would have realized their cheeseburgers come with onions, lettuce, tomato, and animal sauce, because I would have preferred only cheese. Generally, I do not eat beef, but they do not have any other options on the menu. The patty is very thin, but tasted good. It reminded me similarly of a McDonald's Hamburger with the fries resembling those of Steak 'n Shake. The inside is retro, busy, but also very clean. I've heard about this place throughout the years on TV shows and movies and while in California, I definitely wanted to try it so I took a quick trip over to In-N-Out Burger and I got a double double with onions. The burger was delicious. The cheese was melted. The bun was not mushy and the vegetables were very fresh and crispy. The french fries were seasoned well. Everything was fresh and very tasty. The drive-through line was wrapping around the parking lot so I had to go inside the store to order my food once inside of the restaurant. It was like a blast from the past the interior decorations of the restaurants were very reminiscent to old school hamburger joints, the staff all war cool uniforms, and the restaurant was very clean inside. When it was time to place my order, the staff was very helpful and friendly and definitely inviting. This most recent visit was on new years eve. They always seem to have a very long drive thru line, so I opted to eat inside. It was fairly busy, but there was no wait to order and I found a place to sit immediately after getting my drink. I love going to In n Out for a burger because they are consistent! If I'm super hungry I get a double-single with extra extra lettuce. As for the onions, definite yes! I like both the raw and the whole-grilled, depending on my mood. I dunno why people hate on their fries. I ate them all up! I do order mine with no salt but enjoy dipping them in ketchup with pepper. I do wish they had been a bit crispier, so I'll have to try and remember the "well done fries" request to see how I like them. During this visit I noticed they had a "lite" version of their pink lemonade. I gave it a try, and it wasn't so bad, honestly. Especially since I like to add iced tea anyway. Never have I ever wanted to leave a negative review for In-N-Out, and I know they get super busy all the time, but unfortunately, this location had a big miss the other night with my friends and I. We came here around midnight after a festival in Long Beach, and the drive-thru line was pretty busy afterward, so we decided to order inside. We waited for 40+ minutes, and they forgot one of our orders, which I've never experienced at an In-N-Out before. Also, my burger patty was extremely salty on top of that. I can't remember the manager's name there, but he is always on his top game. He and I talked at the door because I was waiting for my order, but it felt good outside so we talked while he held the door open for customers. He's always very friendly and professional, which is. Great to have! I am using speech to text so there's no paragraphs and hopefully there's some punctuation in there :-) the food is always so fresh and you may wait like four or five minutes but it's worth the wait because they are serving so many people. I have always been a big fan of Inn-n-out for their quality and corporate practices. This past Sunday, the drive thru attendant did not return our card and by the time we noticed and went back to get it we had several charges from the location. And yes, the manager had the card and returned it to us. We called right away and were told it was being investigated. It's now 3 days later and the chargers are still there, no answers on why, and no resolution in sight. Beyond frustrating and so disappointed on how this is being handled. read more
