In in Out is to California what Whataburger is to Texas. I must admit, In n Out seems fairly consistent from California to Texas as far as quality, staff friendliness, and store cleanliness. They do mess up occasionally and tonight was one of those occasions. I ordered a Double Double with Mustard, Xtra Pickles, and Xtra Chili's (no lettuce, no tomato, no sauce). I call it my Texas Style Burger, which by the way, they need to add it to their "secret menu" for their Texas locations. Their secret menu is really no secret, Google it. When I got to my hotel room and pulled out my burger it had lettuce, tomato, and the sauce on it. Now I don't know what "no lettuce, no tomato, and no sauce" means in California, but here in Texas it means we don't want it on our burger. So for that, Minus 3 Stars - One for the lettuce, one for the tomato, and one for the sauce. Once I removed the unwanted lettuce and the unwanted tomato, wasn't much I could do about the unwanted sauce, the burger was alright at best (I hate their sauce), the well done fries (aka extra crispy fries)were good, as was the vanilla shake. read more

As always In and Out is a staple in the burger market. Is it the best burger you'll ever eat.... probably not but it's certainly high on the list of fast food burger chain restaurants. I have had several location across the Midwest to its origin in CA. All of which hit the spot. However there is a trick to make it next level. Keyword is: Animal Style. They really stepped up their game on protein style / lettuce wrapped. Mine were gorgeous and tasty today. My order was a cheeseburger, protein style, animal style, chopped chilies, light on the dressing. Today the lettuce was sturdy, crisp, and just a little larger than the patty. Last time the lettuce was thinner, floppy and wrapped around the burger. So for awhile I was going to Carl's Jr. For my lettuce wraps. Not after today... if they can deliver today's meal consistently then I'll be back for every burger craving. So if you're diabetic, or low carbing it, paleo, celiac (sp?)... then In-N-Out is a viable option. Just don't try to eat it while driving. A few tips for those that might want to try lettuce wrap for the first time: Light on the dressing - you'd be surprised how much liquid the bun soaks up so when you take it out for just lettuce the dressing has a habit of going everywhere. Singles - I used to get double doubles but the ratio of veggies vs meat and cheese seemed to be off also the additional juicy patty will also make things a further mess... lastly if they use green leaf instead of iceberg lettuce then it will wilt things faster. Unwrap as you eat - again w/o a bun to suck things up juice goes everywhere so keep napkins close by, don't try to eat in the car unless you don't like your clothes, and keep plenty of napkins handy. read more

Service is taking longer than usual. Managers are kind of rude to me I don't know the reason why though. Employees are cool though expect to always be treated right there. Talk about humorous and polite, he was great! He got our order in and we proceeded to the window. As we approached the window, there he was. He popped out and told us that our order is coming up. On my first visit I was highly disappointed in the rave reviews from Californians. My burger and fries were so awful that I didn't finish either. The burger was tasteless and the fries were a cheap cut and soggy. Now this is my 2nd visit! I never planned on returning here but I told a few California friends what I thought about this place and they told me that I MUST try out the Animal style fries. As I was riding by, I decided to make a quick stop to try the fries. They aren't on the menu so just ask the person at the register for them. Mind you, they are about $2 extra. Regular fries are labeled as $1.70 and these were $4.01 on my visit. My first look at the fries were appealing to my eyes. You get a small basket of fries with animal style sauce, sautéed onions and cheese. The cheese seemed to be the cheap slices of American cheese and the sauce tasted like an off brand Big Mac sauce. The caramelized onions were pretty delicious. Overall I'd give this visit a 3/5. I probably won't visit another In and Out but I could potentially take the ideas of the animal style fries and enhance them to my taste. read more

Popped in tonight for a late night animal style dinner and it sounds like we're eating dinner surrounded by animals. Food is A-1 as always but the restaurant is definitely rambunctious. Staff is letting it go on and it's super disruptive. I'm normally not real concerned with the noise level, but it's bad enough to warrant the mention and to make me hurry my dinner. Our family of 5 got a little overzealous with fries and ordered way too many, but it didn't stop us from trying to eat them all. The food was fresh and cooked just right. In-N-Out is, on balance, a decent chain with some pluses and minuses. Facilities. I've usually availed myself of the drive-through, so have only been inside of the restaurant a handful of times. It's an older location, but the staff seems to a good job of keeping it clean. Ambiance/staff. This is an area where In-N-Out really shines. Compared to the staff at other fast food franchises, the crew at In-N-Out is almost unusually pleasant. They're (usually) pretty efficient at getting people through the drive-through lane, while still managing to be friendly. During rush times, for example, they'll often have a person taking orders in the drive-through lane rather than relying on the speakers. Food. A mixed report card on this facet of the restaurant. The menu at this chain is unusually small. That would be okay if they were able to say that by constraining the size of the menu, they were better able to ensure the quality of what remains, but I'm not sure that's completely true. The regular burgers and cheeseburgers are a bit small compared to those I find at similar establishments, but generally taste good, albeit a bit on the bland side. The fries are a real problem. I don't know whether or not it's true, but a number of on-line reviews have suggested that In-N-Out doesn't double fry their French fries. Whether or not that is true, what is certainly the case is that these fries are not crisp and are fairly tasteless. A final problem area is food temperature. I'm not sure why, but regardless of how long I have to wait for an order, the resulting food is almost never hot; at best it's warm, and too often it's cold. That's a real killer for the fries -- they're barely okay when warm; when they're cold, they are basically inedible. read more

Dear In-N-out, I've been to your joint before when I lived in Arizona; I didn't like your fries then, and I sure don't like them now. They taste like tasteless cardboard, and that's coming from natural cut fries. You would think they would be soft inside and crispy like most other places i've had natural cut fries. The cheese was cheap and turned to hard glue in less than two minutes, the thousand island dressing was horrible, and the fries were just downright nasty. I've had your burgers before and while tasty from all the butter that is griddled on the buns, the meat is not that special, such as Angus, USDA prime etc. It's just burger King type standard meat. On a recent Yelp forum, they were debating who had the better burger you or Whataburger. Well, these people here get real defensive and protective of their home state boy that done good, Whataburger. I being a Louisiana boy could care less. I just know that Whataburger's fries, burgers, and shakes are way better than yours; therefore, I have no reason to come back to you. So, I have to say I'm like the curious cat, who needs to know what all the hype is about when it came to In-N-Out burger. Ok, cute sign, cute uniforms (I think the giant diaper pin on the backs of their aprons is ADORBS!). I wanted to be one of the cool kids that follows this joint around the country. But it's just kind of meh for me. The burger, ok, order the animal style, which is a FULLY loaded burger with their special sauce. It's juicy and yummy, so ok, good one. We also ordered fries, I must say this is my second trip to In-N-Out, cuz I think everyone deserves a second chance when I have a lackluster experience. But their fries are actually really bad. They taste like cardboard, even when they're "fresh". They looked good, but tasted terrible! Even at 1:30am after a concert! This is peak munchies time, and I still couldn't finish them. What a disappointment! Also wanted to treat myself with a vanilla shake......also not so great. I only drank about a third of it. I am someone who HATES waste, the only thing worse, is wasting carbs/calories on something that's not worth the workout, ya know? I LOVE In-n-out. It's my favorite burger place of all time. I love the real potato fries, the buns the sauce. Even the cola tastes better. This one isn't nearly as busy as the ones in California. I had the pleasure of visiting this location on its grand opening! Whoa man, people love this place. Although the line was wrapped around the corner, staff was more than accommodating and pleasant. The line moved very quickly despite the crowd. There's additional patio seating behind the restaurant and plenty of parking. This was actually my first time trying In-N-Out. Not much variety to the menu, but the burger was good and fresh. The shake was delicious and the perfect size. The fries, however, tasted very undercooked. I'm not sure if this is a staple of the restaurant, but these are the only reason I'm not giving this location 5 stars. Shout out to the staff!!! We were coming home from SAMA. And my kids said ...let's go to in and out. It was about 1215 today. We drove into the parking lot and employees directed us stright to a parking spot. It was great not having to look for parking. We were outside under the tent. It took 10 min or less to order food. They broke the one line into 3 registers. We ordered 2 -3x3 and 2-#2 with one of the fries animal style. And topped it off with 3 different shakes. All great choices. It took about 10 min to get our food. We got seats before our food came up which is really great timing. We all enjoyed our meal and my husband started getting his typical food coma. As busy at it was all the employees were very wonderful. 1 star for food 1 star for facilities 1 star for service 1 star overall score. I didn't go to the rest room so I couldn't rate that. Trust me, you don't have to be a veghead to love this not-your-ordinary grilled cheese. With melted layers of cheesey goodness, that special spread, and of course LTO, digging into this sandwich is always a treat. The best thing I can tell you is to get whatever you order "mustard-fried." It adds a new level of flavor any burger and celebrates a classic condiment that just makes everything better. Burger was on par with whataburger, but has its own taste. It's juicy, yet not too greasy. Veggies are crisp, burger is not overwhelming. Fries were ok, "animal style fries" were disappointing. The cheese was the melty kind that hardens when cold. The cheese on my fries werent melty so all the fries stuck together, the cheese reminded me of the "kraft American cheese" processed garbage. Vanilla shake was very good, I'm lactose intolerant and can tell when cheap milk is used. I would feel it immediately. It's been 4 hours and I still have not used the RR.
