India bar and grill is a newly discovered gemstone in Indian dining here in the twin cities area.Its a small but cozy and friendly place located in Chaska. I find most of the Indian foodscape in Minneapolis area quite mediocre. However I was really impressed by this place on my visit today. I tried the chilli paneer (paneer is like fresco cheese ) appetizer. Very spicy and very very good. definitely going to recommend that one Also loved the dal ( yellow lentils) tadka and bhindi (okra) masala. Dal was made on a very North Indian style. The server only spoke to him, ignored my friend as she tried to get his attention, overall dismissive to us throughout our meal. Nice and Spice ! We stumbled upon this restaurant on our way back from an event, on a late Sunday afternoon. We were a party of 6 , and eventhough the place had only a couple of servers, we got well taken care of! The service was impressive. Being a cook myself, I am very critical about Indian restaurants, but out of the many restaurants in twin cities and neighborhoods, I honestly think this place deserves to be among the top 3 spots for Indian foods. The food was delicious and fresh ! The appetizers were well seasoned and spicy , and were well plated. The actual entrees had a fairly large portion , that can act as a shareable. I also liked the wide variety of entrees, and some unique recipes, that's different from the usual chicken tikka masala. They also had a decent bar , which complemented the food selection well. We ordered dinner from India Bar and Grill tonight (1/22/23). It was ready shortly after we placed our order and we picked it up. We were drooling as the smell of delicious Indian food wafted through our van. As we arrived in our kitchen and attempted to place the bag on our kitchen table (relatively large order), the bottom of the bag broke and most of the food spilled all over the floor and area rug at the edge of our table. One of the containers leaked and soaked through the bottom of the paper bag in which the food was packed. We were devastated - both with losing our scrumptious dinner and cleaning it up. We called the restaurant and they made it right. They remade our entire order without any additional charge. They were out of daal (our original order included 2 different varieties), but they offered to replace this with something else (gave us 2 other veggie dishes). The food was delicious (as always)! My boyfriend and I eat here at least once or twice a month, and we love it! Especially when the weather is cold, the food is so warm and comforting. The food here is very good. We especially liked the garlic naan. But I wish that they didn't pass out plastic water bottles to everyone and just served water in a glass (we refused the bottles). Plastic water bottles are so bad for the environment, and they are no more sanitary than a glass of water (after all, all their other drinks are served in a glass). The servers could be a bit more friendly as well. But it's the plastic water bottles that will keep me from coming back. read more

This place is fantastic. It's in an odd location, but persevere; you will be pleased that you did. There's a bar of sorts, but although there's a nice wine selection, you can't belly up to It. Just seven tables; you might want to call ahead. The owner is always present and seems genuinely pleased to see everyone who comes in. Food: as upscale as you'll find, south of the metro. The samosas from the "street food" menu will knock yer socks off and the standard Indian fare is all quite special. I've tried to talk the owner into opening a location further south, 'cause those college kids in Mankato would truly keep this place hopping. read more

This is a tough review for me to write because I deeply love and support local small businesses. The event took place a few weeks ago, but I wanted to give myself time to cool down and write my review objectively. I ordered a variety of dishes that totaled around $150. I waited inside the restaurant while the food was being prepared. I made very specific requests, including the chicken dishes being very well done. While I waited in the restaurant, I ordered samosas and mango lassi. As soon as I tasted the mango lassi, I regretted placing such a big order. The entire reason I went to the restaurant was based on the reviews, and after that first sip, I realized I had made a mistake. If a restaurant messes up something as simple as a mango lassi, you can safely assume that the rest of the food will be terrible. The mango lassi was incredibly watery, which means they diluted it to save on cost, and this is a common practice with many restaurants. If they're cutting costs on something as simple as a drink, it's safe to assume that they will likely do it with the rest of the items on the menu. Moving forward, I grabbed my order, tipped the guy at the register, and went home. When I opened the containers to serve my family, I saw some pinkness in 2 of the chicken dishes. At first I thought it was just my eyes, so I cut into the chicken to look inside. Sure enough, the chicken was undercooked. I thought back to the mango lassi, and I knew that the rest of the food would be defective somehow. I had my family start on the vegetarian dishes while I called the owner about the chicken. My family immediately they couldn't eat the food because everything was bland, & the naan was stiff and stretchy somehow. After I spoke with the owner on the phone, he told me to come in and to trade it in for whatever else I wanted. But since my family didn't like the food, they asked me to simply get a refund. I showed up at the restaurant, and I was immediately confronted by the owner and accused of lying. I was confused because I assumed it was a straightforward process. Before I had an opportunity to explain anything, the owner asked one of his employees to grab a knife so that he could prove to me that I was lying. I have the entire interaction recorded, without the owners face on camera. He said that I was lying because at first I wanted to trade it for something, but now I'm requesting a refund. I told him it was because my family had decided they no longer wanted to eat from the restaurant and would rather get a refund for the raw chicken. He refused to give me a refund and screamed at me to leave the restaurant. I expressed to him that I would not leave without my money because it was a matter of principle. The refund would have totaled maybe $35, compared to over $150 worth of food. He obviously could've handled the situation much better and would have saved himself this negative review and being reported for health violation. The owner went as far as to tell me to call the police if I wanted to, but he would not refund my money. I knew that the police wouldn't be able to do anything because it was a civil matter, but I called anyway. The officer arrived and told me to file a complaint with the court, but thankfully, the presence of police was concerning to some of the customers that were coming in for dinner. I showed one of the customers the chicken dishes when they asked what was going, and they walked right out of the restaurant because they saw the pinkness of the chicken. The officer sat outside and asked me to go back into the restaurant to once again request a refund. I followed his instructions and asked to get my money back. At that point there were customers in there, so the owner was doing his best to appear accommodating. He gave me my money, but before I left, I told him that the situation would've been very different had I been White. And he knew it. Black people are often mistreated at Asian establishments, and this is one of those examples. It's an unfortunate reality that continues to plague our society. read more

Very disappointed in the description on the menu - deep-fried cheese balls, which they are not, and then disappointed with the final product.
