I've never had such bland Indian dishes. The tikka masala tasted like tomato soup, and the butter chicken was weirdly sour. Even the garlic naan was tough and lacking in flavor. This place is awesome! We ordered take out of Vegetable Biryani, Chana Masala, Gobi Manchurian, and garlic naan. Everything was delicious. The only feedback I would give is about the Biryani, I love raisins in mine but that's hard to come by outside of homes. I have eaten my fair share of Indian food, restaurants and home cooked meals, and this ranks right up there. Ambiance and attentiveness was good. I ordered goat biryani - For my taste, the meat was tough. Good biryanis should have meat melt in your mouth - shouldn't have to fight it. I also ordered Chicken kabab pieces. The presentation was good, the looks were good too, but same issue - the meat wasn't moist, melt in your mouth - I have had a lot better indian food at other places. We stopped here today for lunch to try the buffet. Be forewarned, the place is small. Maybe seating 35 or so. The staff is friendly, greeting you as you come through the door. The buffet itself is not big, but it has a very good variety on it. They had a salad bar with fruits and veggies, along with different Chutney's and Raita. The main dishes were a nice variety of vegetarian and meats. (Chicken and lamb today.) The only thing that was missing was naan. Indian restaurant and no naan?! But then as we sat down to eat, the waiter brought us a plate of FRESHLY made naan to our table! Not the dried out stuff that's typically on the buffets at some other restaurants. Fresh, hot, and an endless supply. They came by often asking if we would like more. ++ The food was excellent! Lots of flavors, as is typical of Indian fare. The wait staff is second to none! They were very attentive and pleasant, and made sure you had everything you needed. (Did I mention and endless supply of fresh naan?) Do yourself a favor and give them a try. Decided to try this out for the lunch buffet today. Wanted to sample several options since this first time at this new restaurant. Tried the Chicken Tandoori (very juicy), Chicken Chettinadu (favorite, chicken was very tender and sauce was delicious), Spinach Daal (food) and Goat Kadai (also good) with Tomato rice and several different sauces (Raita was good, but Mint Chutney was my favorite). Nice Riesling to go with the spicy food. Restaurant was very clean and pleasant Indian music was playing. It seemed like a new server was in training, but no significant issues, just a little awkward a few times. All in all good experience and I will go back when in the mood for Indian. Last weekend we went back with a party of 8 and two kids. We went to Saturday lunch buffet around 12:30pm. We made a reservation about 2hrs before we went in. While the food quality and taste was good they were very slow on refilling empty food items. The butter chicken was empty the first time I went in and was never refilled even at the second time I went. They brought two Naan plates which disappeared right away considering the size of the group. We had to wait for at least 20 mins to get a second plate of naan. Most of the chicken dishes were very slow at refilling. Saturday is a busy day and they should be prepared to handle the amount of ppl that dine in on weekends. We go there often and I've seen that things have slowed down a bit compared to when they first opened up. read more

My husband met me finishing up an Open House I was hosting in Chaska. We were planning to celebrate a work milestone of his at a well known Steak house in Eden Prairie. He began looking in Yelp and found India bar and grill so we decided to give it a try. Wow!! The entire experience really knocked our socks off. It was by far the best Indian food that I have had in the entire Twin Cities. I have had good Indian food here and there ...but every dish we ordered was truly flavorful and excellent. The restaurant is also beautiful with very comfortable seating which my husband and I appreciated as we stuffed our faces full of Naan. The service was excellent. We felt really comfortable and it turned out to be a great place to celebrate his special day. We will be back soon and regularly as the prices are also very good. Highly reccomend. read more

Good to see a variety of foods coming in to Chaska. I shared a tandoori chicken with my mom that was good and well-cooked but a little boring flavor-wise. This unlikely outpost of Indian cuisine has a claim to be one of the most interesting restaurants in the Chaska-area. I've spent four years living in Pakistan, four years in Bangladesh, and have traveled extensively in Nepal, Sir Lanka, and the Muslim belt of northern India so I know my South Asian food. India Bar and Grill is a pleasant addition to my hometown. The menu is a diverse selection dishes from all over the Indian subcontinent. The restaurant is run by a South Indian family which suggests they may be particularly strong in the mostly vegetarian cuisine of South India. I didn't have a chance to explore that during my visit to the restaurant, but I'd definitely suggest that as an area for vegetarian diners to explore. I thought the Mulligatawny Soup could have benefitted from a stronger lentil puree. The Chicken Chettenwari is an item rarely seen on Indian menus but benefitted from a sauce that started mild and slowly built its heat to a pleasant balance with the chicken. Don't be afraid to try the goat which is an underrated meat in the U.S. A fiery Goat Vindaloo was exactly on pitch. Garlic naan was well-prepared. Service was attentive. The kitchen is eager to work with you to find an appropriate spice palate for you, just let them know your heat preference. This is a very welcome addition to the Chaska area and I'd encourage the community to get behind it. This is a great opportunity to explore the wide variety of cuisines of the Indian subcontinent from your southern Minnesota doorstep. read more

I've eaten here quite a bit, the food has been mostly great, though there have been a couple times where it's let us down. They just aren't consistent, which we can typically live with as when it's good it's worth the chance that it might be one of their off nights. They lost me as a customer last night though. Put in a large carry out order and they messed it up. Among other dinners, we had four people who wanted the same dish. We ordered two of them mild, one medium and one hot. When we got the order home, two were labeled medium and two were labeled hot. We had the two people who wanted the mild versions of the dish try the ones labeled medium and the one who'd eaten there before confirmed it was hotter than normal mild. The two labeled hot both seemed to have the same level of heat. I called India Grill and explained the situation hoping I could drive back up and get the correct order. The person who answered the phone spoke with the cook and came back on the phone telling me we received 2 mild, 1 medium and 1 hot (what we did order), but that they just mislabeled the containers. I explained we tasted them and didn't think that was the case. He assured me the dishes labeled medium where actually mild and were as mild as they could make that dish and that they would be sure to label things correctly in the future. This wasn't our first time eating there, we knew what to expect in regards to spice/heat level and they did not provide what we ordered and wouldn't make it right given the opportunity. Very disappointing. Update: The owner called and apologized and attempted to make things right. I realize how important reviews are for a small business, so I'm updating the number of stars on this review so it doesn't hurt their rating too much. Still not going back. read more

First time visit here and it was wonderful. Expectations exceeded. The lamb vindaloo and the chicken madras (buffet) were outstanding. Fresh naan delivered to table. All was hot and fresh, which isn't always the case with buffet dining. Service was excellent. They serve beer and wine as well. Only negative comment (only reason for less than 5 stars) would be that we were never really asked if we wanted anything to drink other than water, but we were happy with just water. Great place!
