At 8 bucks for the lunch buffet, this place is a good deal. The variety isn't major, but everything i tried i liked. It was nice to have ceasar salad as an option. The grilled veggies with the potato-patties was very yummy. The naan was good. The tandoori chicken was good. The butter chicken was very good, but i have yet to taste a butter chicken to rival Mayuri's. There was also a super-flat bread, with cumin seeds that tasted like potato-chips. Very nummy. The mango mousse was nice finisher, light and sweet. It was a little cramped at our table by the buffet, me and the person at the next table had to sit in adjoining chairs since there wasn't enough room between the tables. The service was decent, they kept up ok on water, but weren't very quick on getting rid of plates. I believe that if you get a to-go box it is even cheaper, and it is large. The service was very polite and attentive. A little mango chutney made the meal all that better. They have a really nice happy hour special for drinks. I am amazed at the value and quality of their lunch buffet. It's only $9.95 a person and they had a pretty good variety of food, including butter chicken and chicken kheema (which I've never tried before but really liked). India Bistro was an overall positive experience. We began the night with some vegetarian samosas with two dipping sauces: one sweet and one spicy. The samosas tasted incomplete without the sauces. Together, the combination of the freshly fried samosas with the chilled sauces made for a burst of deliciousness! A+ on these veggie samosas. For the main course, we had Chicken Saagwala and Chicken Mirch Masala. I don't really have a comparison point to judge the taste of these two dishes, but I do know they were well spiced and delicious. So delicious that I savored every bite, which is hard for someone like me who has a tendency to just eat without really tasting. Both were accompanied with bowls of Jasmine rice and a side order of garlic naan. The garlic naan had a generous amount of garlic spread on it, but I didn't mind it much. Some may find it overwhelmingly oily so that's something to watch out for. The garlic naan also worked in combination with the dishes we ordered. The portions are huge! We ended up having to take some home. The leftovers tasted even better the next day since the rice had time to absorb some of the flavor from the dish. The service was attentive, sometimes overly. The wait staff seemed a little too eager to take our order and get us through the dining process, but it seemed to be well intentioned. It was a positive experience. The food was great, but the atmosphere was a little generic. I felt a little bit like I was in a sterile cafeteria. This is not really a big deal, but a detail that should be noted for those who pay attention to atmosphere. Overall, I'd definitely go back here again. read more

Others in the menu are like Seafood Trio, Prawns Korma, Rack of Lamb Masala, Murgh-e-Shaan...... choose from degree of hotness ranging: mild, midium to hot, extra hot. Bartender and manager are friendly. Clean and simple decor with open kitchen, full bar with happy hours. They do free delivery with $30 over orders as well. Best Indian buffet I've found in Seattle! India Bistro has so much going for it: convenient location, free parking garage, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good prices, and delicious food! I've actually only been here for the lunch buffet because I love having a variety of foods, and what they offer is always reliably delicious. I'm a vegetarian and my husband is pro-meat, and there are lots of options for both of us. Baskets of free naan, and the mango mousse and rice pudding for dessert are a major bonus. My ultimate favorite Indian dessert is gulab jamun, followed closely by barfi--I'd love to see those in the buffet once in awhile, but even if they don't change it up very often, I'll keep coming back. read more

In the days before COVID, this was THE SPOT! Their lunch buffet (not currently offered, much to my dismay) allows one to have an INSANE amount of butter chicken and naan for an extremely affordable price. Outside of buffet time, the food is still reasonably priced with the benefit that you can adjust the spice levels to what your taste buds can handle. The buffet versions are always very mild to accommodate everyone. I can say with a lot of confidence that I've eaten at least my full weight in Indian food at this place. While it's not the cutest store-front, it is located in a very cute neighborhood of Seattle that is quite walkable...at least before you eat...afterward, be prepared to be in a food coma for a while. read more

I've been to the lunch buffet many times but this was the first time I've done the dinner buffet. The dinner buffet is $4 more expensive than lunch and while many of the items were the same there were definitely some items that I have never seen during lunch. Lentil soup, samosas, lamb curry, and several other entrees that I do not remember the names of. For the price of 1 entree at any other Indian restaurant I got to sample a large variety of high quality dishes. Well worth it! read more

I'm a huge fan of Indian food and regularly eat it at home in San Diego. My mom, on the other hand, had never tried it before. Crazy, right? So I did my Yelp research and discovered India Bistro and their lunch buffet and decided that we should stop by while I was in Seattle on vacation. For $8.95, the buffet included basmati rice, three or four curries, tandoori chicken, veggies, potatoes, a few salads and a couple of dessert options. Plus, a basket of naan is delivered straight to your table. My favorites were the butter chicken and the potato tikka, which looked like little potato pancakes. I'd never seen the potato tikka before but immediately fell in love with the little bites of potato heaven. They were perfectly seasoned and I'm completely infatuated with them! The butter chicken was rich and creamy but not quite as good as the similar chicken tikka masala that I usually order at Indian restaurants. I love paneer but hate peas so the matar paneer was halfway good for me. I tried to gently scoop a couple pieces of paneer to add to my butter chicken sauce. I noticed that the sauce on the matar paneer seemed a little spicier than the butter chicken, which was very mild. My mom can't handle any spice and I can just barely handle a little more so we were glad that most of the dishes were mild. For dessert, the mango mousse is amazing! I was pleased that there's a parking garage under the building. It's small but there were a few spots open around 1:30 on a weekday. Just be aware that it may be difficult to maneuver in a larger car, especially if it's getting full. There's not a lot of space to back up but we were luckily able to use some of the empty spots to turn around in our small SUV. The parking garage is accessible off the alley on 65th St. read more

I love this place! They serve excellent authentic Indian food at a reasonable price. We eat here about once a week, usually during the lunch buffet but sometimes from the menu, and have never left disappointed. One item I really appreciate as a celiac-limited diner is their calamari appetizer, which is lightly breaded with lentil flour instead of wheat like most other places. The service is great as well, attentive but not overbearing, and you can people watch through their generous bank of windows facing 65th. Oh my god! This place is phenomenal. We stumbled across this place during our trip to Seattle but from our first bite we knew this place was a gem. Having tried Indian food in CA and some of the other states, it's easily the most authentic and delicious Indian food that I have had outside of India. Flavors were on point and the food was cooked just right. The staff is a delight to talk to and everyone is super friendly. One would be hard pressed not to praise their food. Being an Indian I was excited to see a new Indian restaurant within walking distance of my favorite Bengal Tiger (that's right it is not Taste of India!). From the looks of India Bistro and from the reviews of Ballard location I was thinking I might have a new favorite here. But don't worry BT you didn't loose me as a customer but you might wanna take some of the tiger pictures off the wall, I get it you are THE Bengal Tiger. Ambiance -------------- IB is new, inviting with a separate bar and dining areas, nicely accented walls. Service ---------- Efficient, friendly and attentive. Food ------- Well, we need to talk. Mixed appetizers: As per the menu this includes a samosa, kabob and pakoras of chicken, fish and veg. As I write this review I realize that I did not remember neither seeing nor eating any kabob! Except for that invisible kabob all that were visible were eaten and tasted pretty good. Pakora batter was perfectly seasoned and spiced. Chicken Tikka Masala: What a waste! Seriously the sauce wasn't creamy at all and it was more of a watery tomatoey sauce that lacked the usual masala flavor. Goa Fish Curry: It wasn't bad as the above but wasn't great either, fish was slightly overcooked. Lamb Biryani: What was I thinking getting a biryani from a North Indian restaurant. It was just rice mixed with lamb curry and lots of onions! A true biryani has to be cooked with the meat and spices so you can taste all the flavor in the rice. It also had no nuts or raisins even though the menu made a mention of it! Naan: Naan was really fluffy and good. One naan can easily feed two. All the saucy entrees come in a big two layer dish which has a small tea light candle to keep the dish warm. A good idea but here is my problem with it. Sauce starts boiling and if you are slow it might dry out. Two words : MANGO MOUSSE The lunch buffet on Sundays and Mondays is awesome. There are always 4 or 5 vegetarian options and 4 different meat based entrees. The goat curry is to die for! The dessert isle usually has something called mango mousse which is a creamy, fluffy mango concoction that melts in your mouth. I've been to Cedars, Taste of India, Kebab House, and the like, and though great, India Bistro on Roosevelt takes the cake. I think what puts India Bistro over the top for me are: 1. The huge portions. Most generous servings of food. My biryani lasted three meals. 2. The extra kick of spiciness. My bf said this was the spiciest Indian food he's received. 3. The extensive menu. Amazing service! Everyone is very friendly. Not to mention the food tastes great! I am happy and full every time. The papadum is tasty and complimentary when dining in (unless you are doing their buffet, in which case you get their naan, which is also wonderful). I recommend the garlic naan, calamari, lamb vindaloo, shrimp jalfrazies, or anything on the menu really. Big props to the buffet, as well. Don't waste your time or money at the Bengal Tiger. Umm not... I don't know how this place got such good reviews. We got delivery and it took a good 1.5 hours. They should note that somewhere bc I would've gotten off my lazy butt and driven there and back in 5 min if I knew that. The food lacked flavor is all I can say. A whole lot of bad. We tried the butter chicken, which I liked best. Then the okra - dry as heck; vegetable goa - wth!; lamb in tomato sauce - made my jaw hurt; vegetable samosas - which my boyfriend liked best but I couldn't eat; roti and rice. We made a note on the online delivery form for mango lassi since it wasn't on the menu but they don't giving a flying a$$ about the notes as they said in so many words when we called after over an hour of waiting. read more

Marvelous place - heart and plate! I have been coming here on average of every 2-3 weeks for 6 years. Stopped with a lot of other well known ones after coming here - their quality of spice/intensity of flavor that could not match it. All are mediocre in comparison. Don't bother w/the other named one in Ballard - this has always been much better. Buffet is great, but dinner is even more fun. Favorites: Curried mussels, mixed appetizer plate, Malai Kofta, lamb Goa, saag paneer. So nice to go to a place where there is long term staff. I have the buffet here all the time. It's an awesome buffet and has a lot of choices...and it really seems pretty healthy. At least it's in your control--I load up with grilled veggies so I won't be tempted to void my quasi-vegetarian ways and eat the butter chicken. But I usually sneak a couple bites. But so many veggie choices plus salad etc. I hear many people say the mango mousse is to die for but thankfully I avoid it. Once the lady brought me some strange ball in liquid which I guess is a desert...or maybe it was a prank. I took one bite and was nervous the rest of the day. Cold liquid, sour-y taste...just odd. Who gives biriyanis and several salads and chutneys and two types of pakoras (fritters) and lots of both veg and non veg options in a buffet. To top it all, the place is clean, the food is fresh and the service is attentive even if they are crowded. I am not complaining about the price either. Their dinner entrees are amazing too, generous portions and fresh. There is always plenty leftovers for another meal. We used to go to Bengal Tiger but since we tried India Bistro two years ago, we haven't looked back. I would say it is the best North Indian food (and I am from India) in the city of Seattle. I don't venture to the East Side, I am sure there are comparable places but for folks who lives in the city of Seattle, please make the trip to Ravenna. You will not regret it. read more

WOW. We have been searching for a decent Indian restaurant for quite a while and have no idea how we missed this one. It's an unassuming, understated restaurant tucked away on 65th just west of Roosevelt in this little mall that includes the Royal Palm thai place (also great), an Aveda spa, the Wayward coffeehouse and 10,000 Villages international gift shop. The staff are SUPER: attentive, polite, helpful and nice. There's one tall drink of water who has seemingly fallen off a catwalk somehow (seriously could be a major model). But eye candy is not why we go out to eat. The ambiance is too blah - they need to jazz it up, but the neutral tones are soothing and the place is CLEAN and well taken care of. There is a full bar. The mango lassi is as expected, straightforward and delish. The tasty, standard pappadums come with a sweet red sauce and a slightly spicy green pesto-style raita (which has mint, if I'm not mistaken, and other herbs). We've had the prawn, chicken and lamb tikka masalas as well as the butter sauce with prawns - unreal. The butter sauce is the creamy tomato sauce (not spicy at all) that most places call "masala" but here, the actual masala is rich, red and full of life - quite a bit spicier and flavorful, not smooth but chunky. Also great, but not quite what is expected. The rice is a little dry, but works perfectly as a complement. The beer selection is decent. We haven't tried the buffets, but hear they are good. You can park in their lot, but there's usually some street parking. And there's a couple of cement tables in the courtyard to hang out on before/after, but it's a little dingy and boring. read more

This place is much better than places like Jewel of India, Shalimar, and even tops Bengal Tiger. All located in Roosevelt or the U-district on the ave. Price was about what you'd pay at Jewel of India for their food. Portions are larger, they keep the food warm over a candle. So it sits in a basket over the candle. It could scorch the bottom of the food, it did for the Vegitable Korma. The Chicken Tikka masala wasn't the usual color we see and my partner was skeptical about it. It was however very tasty and tender. It was more red than other Masalas he has had. I had the Lamb Jalfrazies. TASTYYYYY! I would go there just for that! The mango Lassi wasn't very cold when it came. I look forward to trying the Lunch or Dinner Buffet! The spice was not dissappointing, unlike Chutney's which was bland as sand even at 3 Stars.
