although the chicken curry was pretty good I ordered a dessert the rice pudding.. but it was hard to eat along with my curry. i'm not from the area I was staying in a hotel down the street so I had to use a couple straws that were given to me in the hotel room to have my dessert. I ate my curry with my fingers and sipped from the container kind of annoying that i tipped them for pick up and they couldn't provide a spoon or fork. not all people who order to go are going to their homes and have utensils for usage. read more

Food is really good. Delivery sucks. We ordered $65 dinner and spent $20 on delivery tip to MealHi5... their chosen delivery service. We finally called after an hour and ten minutes and found out our food was sitting at the restaurant already for 15 minutes getting old and cold and delivery service couldn't be reached. Sat on hold for ten minutes with delivery service... never got through. Finally delivered cold food at an 1.5 hours! Seriously... time to replace your meal delivery service with one that actually serves the community. read more

My favorite Indian food on the island. I usually start off with the samosas with the Green Chutney. My favorite Samosa here is the pea and potato. My next course is the Dal, I never miss out on having it here. The Dal comes mild but you can always ask for spicy. My absolute favorite dish at Indian palace is the Chicken Tika Masala, I order it medium. We have been trying the lamb curries one by one, the best one we have had is the Vindaloo. I've lost count on how many times I've passed by this place but in my 16 years of living in Alameda, i finally came in! I was with a friend getting dinner here and it was a marvelous experience. The inside is actually very spacious. The decor is beautiful and we were greeted promptly and there weren't that many people which is pretty awesome. The waiter sat us at a table next to a window and gave us a roti (i think) basket with two dipping sauces; one sauce was green and spicy, the other was red and sweet...it was DELICIOUS. My friend ordered the chicken tikka masala with naan and i ordered the lamb biryani. The order came fairly quickly and i was majorly satisfied!!! The lamb was cooked exceptionally and the biryani had so much flavor it was almost intoxicating plus they gave me a heaping amount of rice!!! So glad i had extra to take home, it was too good not to take it to go. (Personally, i'd slap anyone who dares to waste rice on my watch) My friend's chicken tikka masala dish tasted so damn good. The chicken was tender and hot and the VISCOSITY of the soup was most excellent! (On a side note, have any of you readers had chef boyardee ravioli and heated it with a slice of kraft cheese?.... Anyway..lol thats what the soup kinda tasted like) the naan with the soup was a marriage of holiness. One thing i guess i would criticise is that the mango lassi i ordered wasnt as cold as i hoped it would be, but honestly it was delectable af and quenched my mango thirst. Shahi paneer was watery instead of a gravy consistency. Medium spicy was not spicy at all. The baingan bharta had a hint of smokiness but was lacking in spiciness also. Naans are flavorful. Wow!!!! So, I really love India Palace's food, but they really screwed up tonight. We ordered our dinner an hour and forty-five minutes ago, and just called to check where our food was. The woman who answered the phone was a little distressed, but kind of rude. She told us the delivery driver attempted the delivery and called, but would not provide us with his information or tell us what number he attempted to call. My boyfriend told her that there must be some mistake, because we have patiently been waiting by the phone the whole time, and she basically told him that he could be the one to tell the delivery driver that he was a liar. Still don't know where our food is and are supposed to wait for the delivery driver to be sent out... I sure hope it gets here hot. This isn't the first time they have screwed up our order. Once we waited over 2 hours, and had two drivers show up within 5 minutes of each other, both with the same order (although both missing the drinks). I love India Palace. The best Indian food in the bay. Probably my favorite Indian restraint ever, although I had some really amazing Indian food I. Manchester, but overall the best. Yes, the converted house is a bit Chester, but it makes even more homely. I wonder if they still have that amazing Thai waitress. The food is great and I just love this place. Sneaky special tip the Shahi Paneer is better than the Chicken Tiki Masala. Yeah, a nice review for a change. Plus , they gave me my delivery order right. I am posting this review regarding catering and bad management and irresponsible owner of the restaurant. the food of this place is great amazing and that is why I choose as my wedding catering. but the owner is a very irresponsible vendor. he showed up late (for an HOUR late) without any helper. let my guest hungry on the dinner table. made my wedding schedule delayed and later for 45 minutes. because he left late and he did not bring any person to help him. Excellent buffet on Saturdays and reasonable prices. You get a good assortment and free chai tea. They do change up their menu between weeks. Located in a very residential area in a house so you might think you're in the wrong place the first time. They also have a small salad bar. The staff have always been nice and attentive. read more

I love my coworkers - they're some of the most intelligent, beautiful, generous, hilarious souls I've ever been around. But I love them even more when they have birthdays (aka reasons to gather everyone up and go out). I haven't explored enough of Alameda, but one coworker suggested India Palace. They have a tiny parking lot in the back (maybe about 7 spots), but they were all full when we arrived a little before noon on a Friday. Luckily for us, one of the employees caught us before we left and motioned for us to just park close to the building. The buffet area is small, but it has a great array of dishes. A couple of my coworkers raved about the pakora, but I opted for rice and naan. At one point they came out with fresh naan and... woah... it's totally worth waiting for. I got a particularly warm piece that just went so well with the sauce from the lamb curry and the chana masala. The tandoori chicken was also delicious! Their chai is light, but still slightly creamy, and I thought it was fine without sugar. All but one of us ordered mango lassis (2.99) - not the best I've ever had in terms of a rich mango or yogurt flavor, but I appreciated that it wasn't overwhelmingly thick in terms of consistency. And because dessert falls into an entirely different part of one's stomach (one in which there's always room, of course), I finished lunch off with a bowl of vanilla soft serve. You have to go up to the register to settle the bill, and when I saw it I couldn't believe that their lunch buffet is only $11.99. For the variety and quality of the food you receive, this is definitely a deal. read more

BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I live only 3 blocks from India Palace, but with a newborn, it's been hard to get there and back, so I had it door dashed. My door dasher brought our food and upon arrival, I noticed two items missing: the rice and raita. I asked my dasher if they could just go back really quick to pick up the rice, especially since I'd already tipped generously for 3 blocks. The dasher refused and said "that's not my job." Obviously, I was very upset and called India Palace to see what could be done. I asked if someone could deliver the missing items since we were only 3 blocks away. They immediately said YES and even offered another free rice. The representative on the phone was so great to actually listen to me and didn't cut me off (like many other businesses do). He offered a few options but obviously the best one was for the items to be delivered. And it was in 5 minutes! THANK YOU, INDIA PALACE! Delicious food and great customer service. This place is really good. My coworkers and I always go here when we feel like having Indian food. They have a really good buffet. It gets packed so go early. The food is flavorful and hot and fresh. For 13.99 buffet it's pretty reasonable. Their chai tea is great! The chicken korma and the buttered chicken! Yum! They are remodeling the place and it looks really good. This was by far the best meat samosa I've ever had, and the Benghan Bartha was wonderful too! Way above average!! The chicken makhani had a great flavor as well, but almost no chicken? The chicken in it was beautiful, moist, and flavorful. But there was almost none? Maybe I got the bottom of the pot? I also was really surprised that rice didn't automatically come with it - I've never seen that before at an Indian restaurant. So I will definitely go again, but will make sure to check on some of those issues. This place totally has the potential for 5 stars! The flavor is FANTASTIC!!! the food is good but the customer service is so bad. Most of the people coming in were delivery or pickup - probably a sign. Came in, place had a four or five tables seated, but took 15 minutes to seat us. It honestly seemed like they were kindof ignoring us. After being at the table for ten or fifteen minutes, I finally just walked up to the bar(?) and made my order there. Had to wait for the woman to get off the phone who didn't even acknowledge I was standing there for five minutes. After she got my order, she brought the food. Tried to get her attention to tell her that the order was slightly wrong, (ordered 2 garlic naan and not 2 plain naan and one garlic for the two of us) and then she played the i-cant-see-you game for a while longer. She bold-face told me that's what I ordered? (absolutely impossible that it might have been a small mistake? okidoki) and then begrudgingly took back and got us more bread. I mean we ordered like $70 worth of food and drinks, was it such a big deal? Wanted togo stuff and the check and had to go through the same rigamaroll at the bar with the phone waiting to ask. Asked for four (soup-like) containers, handed me two and a togo box, went back and asked her to switch the box for the other two soup containers (everything was meat in a lot of sauce...) and she sortof smiled and handed me two in a different size. whatever, didn't even feel like asking again. food was pretty freakin good, but I wont ever be coming back. It has been awhile and I missed India palace buffets soooo much. We ordered our classic non adventurous curries because as much as I should try other curries I just love malai kofta and chicken tikka masala. We did order the appetizer special that came with a variety of pakoras and two samosas, and that was awesome. You can't go wrong some crispy fried veggies. Also, we ordered two rices thinking it would be single portions but one was enough for two people so keep that in mind! when I come back I'm going to be sure to ask for more chutney because I love it! read more
