We are lucky enough to live in the Bay Area, where there are better Indian restaurants. That said, this place is pretty good. The thing I really love about this place is their outdoor patio. They have plenty of tables, safely spaced apart, with heaters. And unlike some places, they are willing to put the heaters on for lunch, not just dinner. Service is decent, lots of selection, and like I said, the food is pretty good, just not when you consider some of the excellent places in Berkeley for example. This is my new go-to for Indian lunch buffet. They have a very wide selection of mains and a good selection of sides. All the flavors are just perfect. I mean really really good quality ingredients and being a buffet you fill your plate as you like. Good naan too. Nice people and a pleasant open dining area with real cutlery and cloth napkins. Trivial I know but it tells you they are legit. Although its not part of the buffet I had to try the mulligatawny. Its sort of my benchmark for an Indian Restaurant. If they do that well - they rank. A good friend introduced me to this place and there's no going back! Gotten take-out twice now during covid and each time the food was wonderfully flavorful and the menu has great variety. I feel Indian cuisine can get pricey but this place is very reasonably priced and great value for the money. The vegetable samosas are the BEST! I was so impressed the chicken in my curry was tender, most places have dried chicken from cooking it in the curry for a long time. I liked chicken makhani over the tikka malasa but I think everyone will have their own flavor preference and there's no wrong choice here. If you like spicy food, the lamb vindaloo is a winner. India Palace has been around for a while and it's still my go-to on the island for chicken tikka masala. I also ordered a side of rice and garlic naan. The chicken tikka masala might not come with many pieces but they are pretty decent sized chicken breast. I always get rice and naan for all the extra sauce. If you are concerned about Covid-19, I know there are delivery services that you can use but I prefer to pick it up myself. I felt that they are using a safe setup for pickup. read more

This place used to be the only game in town because competitors didn't think they could compete. Here goes my first outdoor dinner dining review during COVID-19: Pros: 1. Amazing and relaxing ambiance - The restaurant converted their parking lot space into beautiful outdoor dining with the whole area decorated with lightings, paintings, and small fountains 2. Food tasted pretty awesome. - They provide papad and green chutney complementary until you wait for your food (Green chutney just wooow!). - We ordered both veg and non-veg so look through the pics to see what was there. - They also offer Vegan options (Veg Biryani and Aalo Gobi masala from the pics) Quick Tip: If you are looking for dal tadka in the menu, it isn't there but go ahead and order dal soup, it will serve the purpose with the rice :) Cons: - Fewer food options on the menu around appetizers (like bhel, chats etc) - Service was a little slow but I won't complain more about that since they might have less staff during COVID-19 and they all were very generous. Amazing food, and really nice outdoor seating area. The first time we went, my husband and I got the chana masala, lamb biryani, garlic naan and samosas for an appetizer. It was all so amazing! We went back the following week and got the same exact order because we were just so impressed with it. We'll need to go back again and try other items on the menu eventually. My one suggestion for the business is to add a drink menu. The first time we went, we just assumed they didn't have/serve alcohol. But then we saw another table served glasses of wine. We asked the second time and they told us the wines available, but it would have been nice to see them on the menu as well. read more

OMG The back yard was beautiful.. covered outdoor seating with heat lamps .. as soon as I walked in the back I was greeted.. but I ordered my food I was just being nosey so I could add it to my review.. I got home made my plate and had mixed reviews of the food .. the lentil soup and chicken tiki masala was tasteless .. the chickpeas were there only dish with flavor.. New favorite Indian place! My boyfriend and I were craving for some good ol Indian food, but did not want to drive too far for it. We whipped out our handy dandy yelp and found a few nearby, but this one had better reviews and stood out to us. There was plenty of street parking, so we parked out front. Then we noticed they even had a parking lot in the back. The place looks like it could've been someones house before they turned it into a restaurant. Cute little space inside. We went here for dinner on a Friday night. They were quite busy. Service was decent despite the phone ringing the entire time we were dining in, and a lot of people were coming in and out for take out orders. They did their best to attend to us when needed. We ordered: Meat samosas: It was okay. I've never been a fan of samosas, but I always want to try them everywhere I go. Who knows... I might fall in love with the right one. Kebab appetizer: Not bad. It is like a sampler with 3 different kinds of meats. Chicken, lamb, and a mixed one. I'm always a fan of the chicken. I usually don't eat lamb because of its flavor, but I liked the lamb here! It didn't consist of the stinky lamb flavor. Chicken tikka masala: We ordered it extra spicy because everytime we order spicy it isn't even mild to us. They know how to turn up the heat! I really loved that it was ACTUALLY spicy! I feel that it was a little thinner then the usual tikka masala, but I can live with it. Garlic naan: TO DIE FOR!!!! Hands down the best naan I've had in my life. I was so full, but kept wanting to eat it. I've been dreaming about it ever since. Shrimp biryani: We also ordered this extra spicy. Boyyyyyy, did they deliver! It was so spicy, but sooo delicious!!! I would definitely order this again! My boyfriend and I agreed that this is our new go to for Indian food. I really wanted to love the food but it was just OK. The chicken tikka masala was watery and tasted more of cream. The flavor was off. The chutney tasted soured, as if it was spoiled or spoiling. The chicken was moist, the veggie samosas were good. read more

Great food! Because of the pandemic, there are still no indoor seating but outdoors available. I personally have not tried the outdoor dining but from what I saw, it seemed nice. Prices have gone up, but so have every other restaurant. We always order the following... naan, rice, chicken Tikka Masala, & Butter chicken. All yummy! My only suggestion is that they add a little more chicken into the Butter chicken. read more

In the time since my last review they have really shifted their response time with both deliveries and in house service. The food is authentic Indian food. Not the modern fusion or commercialized flavors. That's a good thing. Actually, it's a delicious thing. If you want some of the real thing, this is your spot. Their prices have unfortunately risen to every other overpriced place on the island, but I can't blame them considering the rip off the whole Bay Area has become. It just means I frequent them a lot less and buy my food at Indian grocery shops in Berkeley and Pleasanton. If you want cheap authentic Indian you still have to seek out the hidden gems in Berkeley and the Tri-Valley area around Pleasanton and Fremont. They are there, but only worth it if you are in the area. If you are on the island and want Indian, this is the only restaurant left. Flavors of India on Park shut down years ago, and Curry Up Now didn't make it out of the Covid lock down. Speaking of the pandemic, this place built out an outside dining area in the back parking lot that looks absolutely delightful and would be a great place to sit with friends and enjoy a delicious, belly-filling meal. I love the onion kulcha and have eaten almost every vegetarian item on their menu. Depending on your mood you will find whatever you might be looking for, and you cannot go wrong. Their service has consistently been delivered with a smile and their timeliness has improved to near perfection. If you've been curious, but unsure, here's the kick on your ass to go try it out. I heard lots of great reviews about this place so we decided to order dinner for delivery w GrubHub. Dinner for 2 w got tandoori Chix dinners, 6 small pieces of chicken and sauce per order. I guess it was our fault there was no RICE we had to order that separately(lame). W got some Nan etc..... it was soooooooooo disappointing. The bill came out to $100 bucks w delivery. We mentioned this to our friends who recommended the place. "Oh you should never get delivery from them, it sucks." So I'm guessing the restaurant is better if you dine inside. I ordered takeout for the first time. While waiting for my food to be ready, a homeless man entered their establishment. He clearly was struggling physically and mentally and asked the host if they could spare any rice for him. Without hesitation, the employee went to the back and showed such compassion and empathy toward this homeless man and provided him some fresh rice. The actions alone with this establishment, along with their food being delicious and reasonably priced, has made me a customer for life. read more

I have always wanted to try this place and I was not disappointed! Been here a couple times since my first visit earlier last year. The folx who work here are always prompt and friendly- most importantly, the food is delicious. Their outdoor seating is really nice and so cozy when they turn on the heaters. Indoor seating is lovely and perfect for date night. Whenever I go here with a group of friends, we always share the assorted vegetable platter (2 pcs veggie samosa, veggie pakora, gobi pakora, potato pakora), garlic naan, and two bowls of curry (usually veggie + chicken). I have only tried their sweet lassi and it was delicious. The other food I tried was the lamb biryani. I challenged myself to try biryanis from the different Indian restaurants around me and theirs was not in the top five, mainly because I picked up my food late and could not arrive at a convenient place to eat early so I had to eat a lukewarm meal. This was my first time here. My companions assured me that this tiny abode could accommodate all the requirements of a good restaurant and service. Indeed, once inside the place seemed quite sizeable. The décor was simple yet elegant. The place, while dated, was clean and inviting. We were there for the lunch buffet. This is an all you can eat affair for $11.99 per person. Quite reasonably priced for a buffet of pretty good variety and quality. The selection is the standard fare: naan, vegetable samosa, and plain basmati rice. Then a standard assortment of savory dishes including the staple of tandoori chicken. I was delighted to find a tasty palak dish. This is a kind of mildly spicy spinach dish. It's often augmented with cheese or, possibly, a meat but here it's served plain and it really shines. Another thing of note is the self serve chai tea. Quite tasty and you can have it with sugar or without. There's self-serve soft-serve too. It's vanilla flavored, but still a nice touch. They offer gulab jamun for dessert so remember to save room in your tummy. I'd like to return in the evening and try some of their house specially dishes. That way I could offer a proper review, but until then I'd give this place as a thumbs up. read more

I've gone to this restaurant for a good 10 years. Hands down the best Indian food in Alameda and in neighboring cities as well. Haven't eaten here since COVID started. Just went to dinner the other evening and I was surprised to see how they have redone the parking lot area. They made it gorgeous! Even as you walk in there is decor all over, light strings and a really nice covered dine area. The food was exactly as I remember it. Same great flavors, high quality, and memorable. For appetizer, the vegetable samosas were served fresh and hot. The Dahl soup was interestingly and wonderfully spicy. Our main course consisted of vegetable biryani, chicken vindaloo, some kind of eggplant tomatoe saucy dish, and of course, Naan. Everything was spiced to perfection, and I savored every bite of dinner. For desert, is there anything better than gulab jamun and a cup of chai? The gulab jamun was served hot and just the right amount of sweetness. The outdoor seating has heat lamps so everyone is comfortable while eating. I got to go food, so I am aware the food suffers that way. But I was still pretty disappointed. They don't have many vegan options, and so I had few choices. The dal soup was OK. The aloo gobi masala didn't interest me. And the roti was ok. It was kind of a waste of money for me. Maybe their chicken dishes are better. I just felt o was eating food cooked for people who want the food cooked for people who eat there for nostalgic reasons. "We love this place because we've gone there since the kids were little. We always take them back there when they come to visit because it hasn't changed a bit and we remember all of the fun we've had there over the years. And we hope it never changes a bit". The food here is wonderful. We've eaten here about 3 or 4 times now. We live in Alameda and wanted local Indian food. I we've had the Tandoori chicken. Excellent. We've had the Tandoori sea has. Delicious. The prawn Biryani. Excellent. The person who takes the orders on the phone is excellent. We only ordered on the phone to make sure that that hold the heat on the Biryani.
