Surprised that the restaurant has been in existence since 2003 according to the owners . It is conveniently located inside a huge shopping mall . Parking is plentiful. The restaurant is much bigger than what I expected and typically serves Punjabi food, though there are also some Indo Chinese items in their menu . Service was quick and the items were very tasty. I felt the price was a bit on the higher threshold but there are people like me who are willing to pay slightly more if the quality and service exceeds our expectations. This place is a gem, maybe even a diamond. I have been looking for the best Indian buffet in all of Chicagoland and I found this place. I tried many places on Devon -- the price was okay, but the taste was off, and the environment was too busy and too fast (like rushed). I've tried many of the places in the west suburbs, and while they all taste good (I mean who doesn't like Indian, and buffet?), this is better. Indian, like I alluded to before, always, in my opinion, tastes delicious. I'm a vegan and don't eat meat or any type of dairy, so this makes it a bit more challenging for me. Indian, because much of India is vegetarian, works in my favor, however add to the fact that I rarely eat grains, eat low fat, (oil) this makes the search, again, difficult. The lady who owns the place -- I apologize, I can't remember your name -- is the cutest thing ever. I felt so loved, heard, and special. She and I talked for 20 minutes after the meal, and I can tell, she LOVES what she does, and she does it. That alone is what for me stands out in a restaurant because if they love it, they do it well, and let me just say... I can taste the prasad (love and praise) that's in this food. What makes a restaurant good, in my opinion and experience, always comes down to the special ingredient - love. I'm a chef by profession, and when I was training, my mentor and teacher taught me this early on and used to tell me, "you can make the worst dish ever, make all the mistakes possible, ruin the presentation, and be late, but if you slow down, take a few breaths, do your best, and love the experience, the client will never know." Back to the review -- my favorite Indian buffet in all of Chicago. It's reasonable - $10.75 for all you can eat, the food is always fresh and toasty, the tastes are incredible, and the service is great. I read all the reviews before coming, and my experience was 15/10. I went up to her before I left and asked her how and why her food tastes different than the normal, eat to you can't move, tasteless but starchy, oiley Indian food that's offered at most places. She said she hires a chef from India, pays for his visa, and has him come here to teach her chefs how to correctly make Northern Indian food. Who does that? PS for all vegetarians and vegans, they have plenty, and I mean plenty, of options. She even took me around, dish to dish, explaining what had what and what didn't. In my humble opinion, this is nothing to look at from the outside, but from the inside, it's a marvel. Outstanding quality food, for a decent price, leaving you in heaven. Just what I like to find -- something no one else knows about. yet ;) I'm coming back and telling all my friends in family. Oh, and one last thing...another special component about this place is the fact that it's family run -- not a chain -- and she told me how she struggles to make ends meet. The mango ice cream gets me every time! And the flavors and spices in the food....delish! The Sunday afternoon crowd is very interesting. Overall, it was an enjoyable and scrumptious experience. I recommend going during the lunch buffet, since Indian food can get pricey when you want to try a number of dishes. I also recommend using many silver cups on your plate instead of just piling the food right on it. Keeps things neater and allows you to mix the dishes as you wish. We often come here as this place has always been amazingly consistent in its culinary. The food is excellent and service is good too. We always end up getting mixed pakoras and substitute potato with green chillis (mirchi) and mango laasi to start off with, so yummy! As a former Wheaton resident, returning to the India Palace is still a treat. Authentic India spice (Hey, they had a hand in starting the United State, as the East India Trading company help foster to find a new trade route to get Indian spices back to Europe) and cook their Nan breads in a traditional Tandoor oven. Add to that the complimentary Papadum and chutney (the Indian equivalent of a Mexican restaurant's nacho chips and salsa). Very nice presentation with heavy metal serving bowls with tea candle warmers underneath to keep the dish hot as you server the first course from that container. A nice touch to keep your meal warm until you go back for second serving. I found the chef's spicing to be a bit lacking (probably just personal preference taste I'm used to, and not knowing how the current chef spiced his creations, so I did not know to request my personal spice level for the preparation. This has to be my favorite Indian food spot in the area. My husband and I usually order take out from India Palace. But the place is a decent size and pretty clean. The owners are polite and welcoming. Their take out service is efficient. We've tried a bunch of different dishes but our favorite undoubtedly is the butter chicken. It is hard to find a place that serves good, authentic butter chicken but India Palace definitely does a great job! We've also like their Chicken biryani, Kadhai paneer and garlic naan. Overall, great food! We will try their buffet sometime soon. read more

We came here after getting our coffee buzz on at a Yelp event. I was soooo hungryyyy. I was thrilled to see such an extensive vegetarian menu, but it ended up being overwhelming since (even with a short description) I really didn't know what most things were. My +1 texted his Indian bff to ask what a particular dish was, so we ordered that (chickpea something-or-other). Unfortunately it wasn't the same thing he had had. Dan K. is spot-on when he notes you'll pay for every. little. thing. I didn't think we'd be charged for, say, rice, but that wasn't the case. Our order of 2 dishes (a $9 mediocre chickpea one and $13 shrimp curry) + rice + garlic naan + veggie samosas ($2.50) brought us over $30 before tip. Yikes. The curry was good, bit there were 5-6 shrimp and the rest was sauce. The naan was the best - I LOVE garlic, and it was very pungent. The veggie samosas were also very good and had a nice kick. Service was spottier the later it got; our water glasses went empty a few times. I was also disappointed that the server/female owner (?) took away the sauces without asking if we were done with them. In all it was just "meh." In the future I'd stick with the naan and samosas unless I had some guidance on what to order. read more

Wow! I love Indian food as I find it to usually have the perfect balance of spice and flavor, so I'm always on the lookout for a great place to eat. This is it people of Wheaton and the surrounding area. Seriously flavorful food! So I decided to order take out instead of trying the buffet as I wanted to ensure I could get the exact food I was looking for. The ambiance is a little rough, but if you visit many Indian food places, it's pretty much on par. When I picked the food up I perused the buffet and it had some decent offerings - Chicken, goat, and veggie alike with a Samosa's and a few other appetizer-like stuff. So I was happy to have placed my order to go. Note - I did ask the very kind lady helping me and she said the items rotate on the buffet, but the soups and Samosa's and salad all pretty much stay the same. Reading some of the other reviews it looked like my favorite dish (Murgh Makhani, aka Butter Chicken) was highly recommended so I placed an order for that. I added a garlic Naan as that also looked like it was getting a lot of high regard. I've had some coworkers provide me with their authentic food before that I thought was spot on, but this was just a bit more elevated. This version from India Palace was a flavor bomb. I have nothing bad to say about it at all! Do yourself a favor and get this dish! I also wanted to test out a Paneer and usually go with Mutter Paneer, but again, looking at the reviews, decided to go with Kadai Paneer. I almost liked it better than the Butter Chicken. Definitely debating between 2-3 stars. Gave it 3 because I liked the appetizers. We went for parents anniversary and had a party of 11. They serve complimentary papad with vinegared onions and chutneys which is nice. We ordered a dry chicken appetizer and confirmed it would be dry but it came with a thick gravy. It was called chicken special. It was good, tasty, and very spicy but some people in our party only like dry chicken instead of gravy chicken so we had to order another dish, chicken tikka grill which was good too. The paneer tikka sizzler was tasty as well so no complaints for appetizers. I would go back just to try appetizers ONLY! The main veg entrees could have been better. Paneer makhani - don't order it. It tasted like tomato soup with the tiniest pieces of paneer just cut from the package and put into a bowl. Bhaigan bharta - no one puts awjain in this. The dish had an OVERLOAD masking taste of it- nasty. Navratan korma- it was the only entree the whole table liked. It was good. On the other hand, The garlic & butter plain naans were amazing! Fresh! This restaurant has a very extensive menu with options for everyone. Went to dinner with a friend who is vegetarian and we didn't have to worry about if they would have enough options to choose from. The Paneer pakora is a great appetizer, so delicious! For non veggie dishes, we ordered the Lamb Korma and Chicken tikka masala and both dishes were excellent. For under $11 you get an all you can eat buffet AND naan AND a plate of chicken tikka! That's unbelievable pricing. Maybe not quite as much meat for your buck as Smokehouse, but close. Today I had the goat curry (not too bony, soft meat, good spices) and the chicken tikka masala along with the complimentary naan and chicken tikka. All was very good. I also had some "salad" ... not so impressed. Lots of very brown lettuce. Shared between two people, we still couldn't finish everything. I liked that there was a spiciness to some of their dishes. It was a mild spiciness for me, but then again, I have a fairly high tolerance. What I will say is India Palace serves enticing flavored food, there is absolutely no question about it. I personal devoured on most of their fresh spices entrees, and soups, more than anything else. I am skeptical trying out different dishes especially since I am vegan, yes I said vegan, we want to eat too and be sure its worth it. As said before this gem spot has different vegan options that are spiritual intoxicated. It tastes Earthly, spicy and sweet like no other Indian Food that I actual had. Fantastic quality, extremely tasty authentic Indian food. Reminded me of the Indian restaurants I grew up with in England. Loads of choices. Extensive list of vegetable dishes. Classic, traditional, and some different (for me) dishes. The food is kept warm with those little candles underneath little balti dishes. We had vegetable samosas, mirchi pakora and onion bhajis for appetizers. All delicious - especially the onion bhajis! Mmm! We each had different main dishes but shared and tasted them all. My husband had the Lamb Madras - absolutely delicious, with coconut flavors! I had the Lashuni Tikka - this was new to me, but SO delicious - a twist on the usual Chicken Tikka - spicier, deeper garlic and onion flavors. My son had the Lamb Pudina Masala - Lovely hints of mint flavor. It was hard to tell which lamb dish was more delicious - this or the Lamb Madras - both similar, but different flavors. Mmm... And my daughter had the Kadai Chicken - Less spice heat, but incredibly rich, deep flavors. We agreed that all 4 dishes were equally delicious in different ways. We also had two types of Nan bread - plain and Masala Kulcha (new to me) with onions + chili pepper. Yum. Very friendly staff. Very reasonable prices. A wonderful find. This is easily my favorite place for dinner. The food is always delicious and the service great. The lassi is really tasty here too. We almost always get the vegetable samosas to start and they are so delicious and perfectly cooked. We usually get the saffron rice or lamb briyani with lamb madras and chicken tandoori. I gave an order for an entree here so I could pick it up. The owner, a guy, was very rude and condescending. He seemed to be making fun of me for not being able to pronounce Indian dish names. He would not explain what the general ingredients of the dish were and was getting more and more irritated. The restaurant from inside smelled like savory farts and I even saw a black rat lurking around and entering the kitchen area eventually. The owner looked like he was under the influence of something likely a downer may be alcohol had curly dark thick hair sticking out of white collared shirt. I am not going back here. The food is above average, but I wouldn't give it a spectacular review. There is certainly a good variety of Indian food and I'm by no means an expert when it comes to Indian food, but I've been to a couple other places up in the Schaumburg area that had about twice the number of options. The Tandoori Chicken here is on par with other places I've been to. The naan seemed a little bit bland. The service was hit or miss. I came here for a birthday party in a group of about twenty people, and the wait staff was awesome at filling drinks and giving us whatever we needed. However, towards the end of the time (around 2:15pm), they were a bit over eager in trying to remove our plates and get us out of there. There came a point when they would just remove our dishes without asking if we were done and it got to be a bit ridiculous. The price was decent for the lunch hour (around $10 including tip) but I think the food isn't as good as other Indian restaurants in the area and the wait staff got to be a bit rude. read more

The place is no palace inside, they are remodeling, but i dont expect fancy, i just want good food at a good price. The owners that are usually there are very friendly.
