Pho gets 3 stars. Only because I have no other means of eating pho when I'm craving it. It's not great but I have to say it's better than nothing. If you're into Bahn Mi sandwiches DO NOT EAT HERE. They literally missed every core aspects of what needs to be in a Bahn Mi. 1. The bread... how can you mess up on the bread. *face palm* The bread should be a toasted crispy baguette but what I got wasn't even a baguette and they didn't even toast it. 2. The carrots are barely pickled. They are suppose to be tangy with a bit of acidity but that's definitely not there. Actually in fact, there are barely any carrots in there. 3. cucumbers are also not pickled at all either and they barely give you cucumbers in there. 4. Meat (I got the grilled pork) had no flavor and was just chewy. I took 3 bites into my sandwich and had to stop to write this review. I'm not happy. I spent some time in New Brunswick while serving jury duty and stopped in for lunch today...(rainy and cold for Spring). When I crave Phô I usually head to towards Edison on rt 1 but saw the reviews here and decided to try. I ordered P5 which is Phô Tai Chin which is beef broth, rice noodles, rare steak, and beef brisket. The broth was perfect and exceeded my expectations. I'm Vietnamese and I grew up in Little Saigon (Westminster, California.) The food here is not authentic; the owner is an Egyptian-American. However, it is very delicious. I like Indochine better than the more-authentic, but less-delicious Pho 99. I had the beef pho. It is slightly expensive at $8. You don't get a lot of meat, noodles, veggies, or broth. I like how they don't use MSG. They have a very large vegetarian menu. On Tuesdays you can buy one pho and get one free. On Yelp they sell a $30 coupon for $20. I can only go three stars since the decor could be better. Formica topped tables; no linens, paper napkins, background music set so low that I could not make out any of the songs - could not figure out if it was Asian or American. Place is a little loud;possibly due to a long mirror along one wall. Service was fine; the wait person was personable and efficient. Food came out of the kitchen very fast. I had the Com Bo Xao Lan - beef with lemon grass, served with rice. A good sized portion. Rather spicy which I did not remember from the menu; but OK for my taste. I could not see any lemon grass in the mix; but maybe there was a little. Very nice Vietnamese iced coffee which is prepared with condensed milk. But my recollection is that it should have been a layered drink instead of being served a bit like a cappuccino. They serve two kinds of fried wonton fritters for dessert - either apple or banana. I had the banana fritters with chocolate sauce. Made fresh to order , very nice and looked very pretty on the plate. Price value is OK; my dinner was $17.20 before tax and tip. Pho noodles on the higher end, almost $9 for small, $11 for large. But it's on a business street so that's fair with prices. Banh mi's are 1/3 more the price than usual. Didn't try it. Not sure if I want to based on the pho soup flavor. But you might wanna try it and let me know... Cus I'm full from just pho. Bland. It is pretty eating inside tho clean feel. I should have known better. Pretty inside... If your a pho commoner who knows the soup base flavors are usually stronger than this soup here, you might not like it. If you want to go somewhere close and are craving Pho or Vietnamese food, this is the place to go. I feel like portion wise, they could definitely give you more, but it's not bad. The boyfriend and I usually have to get extra larges in order to be full. Either that or we eat too much. Although the food is just alright, they do have some good things going for them. As a vegetarian, it can be challenging (but not impossible) to find restaurants with high standards for their vegetarian options. However, their vegetarian cuisine is exceptional. They have a pretty amazing special where on Tuesday's where if you buy any order of Pho you get any order of Pho free (with purchase of drinks) so of course we had to do this. And oh my gosh it was delicious. I'm talking crisp sprouts, fresh herbs, delicious broth, and tasty meats, like hello. Oh and the bowls are huge, and clearly we should have stopped with the pho, but we ended up ordering a big bowl of Bun Cha Gio Tom Thit Nuong which is vermicelli rice noodles with grilled pork & shrimp and a Vietnamese eggroll...like holy sh*t I could eat this all day every day it's so delicious. Otherwise, the ambiance is cozy and super cute/trendy with bright colors, but don't get too used too it! The guy told us that they are closing at the end of July and moved to George St. (where Spice'In was aka RIP Spice'In) and that they will open again at the end of August. Recent addition to the ethnic restaurants portfolio of New Brunswick. A two people operation serving what looks like "good" Vietnamese food. We only had a banh mi so we can't really say anything about the rest on the menu but we'll go back and figure it out. So, for the banh mi: slightly pricey at $6.75 with OK meat, very fresh and crunchy veggies and good mayo. The bread? Too soft and chewy, a banh mi needs some crunch and it just wasn't there. Also, it was somehow short in your mouth. Burst of flavor and then rapid decay... My bet is that they have to refine their business a little (it's been open only for one month) and polish here and there. As for the logistics: The waitresses are friendly and efficient, and take-out service is quick and thorough. It's pretty busy during lunch, so groups larger than 4 will have difficulty being seated. Came here around 8pm on a Wednesday. It wasn't too crowded so my friend and I were seated quickly. We both got the Pho Tai Chin, and it was delicious! The bowl was filled with plenty of steak and brisket and the broth was flavorful. The portions they gave us were worth the money. I came here once alone after work to satisfy my never-ending craving for noodle soups. This was my second ever time having Pho, and my first time (Pho 99) was disappointing. But here it was just magical. I got the Pho with meatballs and it was amazing. I can definitely understand the hype behind Pho now. After I make the payment with the cashier, he tells me it will take 15 minutes to make TWO spring rolls and ONE avocado shake. Went there for some pho, and I was unfortunately very disappointed. I'm from Boston and I'm spoiled by Le's not to mention homecooked pho so I kind of have high expectations. I got my usual dac biet and while the cuts were tasty, the portions were meager and the noodles were very limp. The broth was ok but not really up to my standard. I finished off with a Vietnamese ice coffee and that was pretty good. I was also kind of shocked to find that their banh mi were so expensive. I'm used to paying 2-3 dollars for one, not 7 (after tax) and while I didn't have one I'd be loathe to try one at that price point if it was the same portion size as others I've had.
