I've gotten takeout here 3x. While I like the concept and really wanted to like the place, I like other ddeokbokki joints in the area much better. My biggest issue is the overcooked ramen. I've had plenty of takeouts from other places for ddeokbokki, budae jjigae, etc. where ramen is part of the menu and never had this issue. Other places would give you undercooked ramen on the side that you can put in your takeout order once you're ready to eat instead of having it mixed in and soak up all the soups/sauces. With the ramen sitting there getting bloated, all the ddeokbokki sauce is gone by the time I get home in 10-15 mins. One recent improvement compared to my first visit when it first opened is now there's a "solo ddeokbokki" option for lunch on weekdays. You are limited in the number of rice cake types and toppings you can select, but the portion is way more manageable for 1 person. I like that they have a few fun types of rice cakes like corn, cheese, noodle shaped, etc. Also love that you can include mushrooms, veggies, beef, etc. and the crunch on top, though, again, would be great if the crunch were in a separate container. I custom ordered two pots of tteokbokki one with rose and one with the dooki's best sauces. The dooki's best was my favorite. Flavor profile wise was very savory and spicy. The spice level is a 4/5 but as someone who is sensitive to spice it was definitely spicy but I was able to tolerate. Despite it being harder to eat the flavor was too yummy to stop. I also got the rose which I thought was okay. My favorites rice cakes to add were the corn cheese balls and the special shape. They were soft and chewy. The wait for a table can get pretty long on a weekend, but we were able to walk right in on a Tuesday night. After you order, you sit down and wait for your food to be brought out. The overall vibe is very casual. Service is also pretty good. This was the most variety and customization I've ever had for tteokbokki. There are several different kinds of rice cakes, including a corn cheese tteok that I fell in love with. In total, there are 6 different kinds of rice cakes to choose from, and, yes, you can absolutely choose a combination of all of them. There are also several different types of meat toppings, vegetables, noodles, and sauces. I've tried both the rose and the Dookki original sauces. Even though I don't regularly eat spicy food, I loved the Dookki original sauce and did not think it was too spicy. I especially loved the little mini sausages because they had such a crisp snap to them. One pot of tteokbokki is around $30 and should definitely be shared. It was a lot of food for just me and my boyfriend - and we can eat a lot, too! To be fair, we also got an order of fried chicken. We got the Honey Brown Chicken wings, which had a sweet honey glaze and a touch of soy sauce. To be honest, I thought the wings were just ok. On a separate visit, we got boneless thighs instead, which were much better. It is a bit confusing at first, but staff will guide you to how many shareable bowls + burners you want on your table (depends on your party size), and will guide you throughout the process. It is basically a process of choosing what tteokbokki shape you want, toppings, proteins, spice level +sauces. Then, they cook it for you. You pay at the end. You can order Korean fried chicken while you wait, which also has a lot of options and was delish! I came with a part of 6 and we had 3 bowls shared amongst us, which was MORE than enough! We got embarrassed as we saw parties of like 5 sharing only 1 lol. But this of course depends on your appetite and if you want to bring the rest of the food home! So I actually feel more okay in terms of flavor when it comes to tteokbokki. Thankfully, there are SO many options to customize your tteokbokki here! We went during lunchtime on a Saturday, but thankfully there was no waiting. The workers there were very kind and helpful as it was our first time visit. Food was great and brought back the memories as it is the food I had when I was a little girl in Korea. However, there was some distinguished smell to the soondae, fishcake and some other fried food. It has a frozen smell to it that wasn't properly thawed or cooked so I could not finish them. My friends and I were excited to try this place but we ended up leaving disappointed with our experience. We arrived an hour before closing and placed our order for fried chicken and tteokbokki before last call, but the experience fell short of our expectations due to miscommunication from the staff. When we came up to the register to order our food, the cashier never informed us that they were out of flour and still accepted our order. Our tteokbokki order came out shortly after we ordered. As we continued eating our meal, we noticed the chicken hasn't come out yet but we wanted to give the kitchen time as we know that fried chicken typically can take longer. But after we finished the spicy tteokbokki, we noticed the chicken was still not out and taking unusually long so we followed up. By then, it was 8:55pm which is just five minutes before closing and the staff started cleaning up around us. When we asked the server to check on our order, they came back and said they had run out of flour. The confusing part was that they had already taken and confirmed our order. If they had ran out of flour then I would have appreciated a more proactive approach with the staff informing us sooner instead of keeping us waiting and leaving us to follow up ourselves right before closing. It felt like our order had been lost or forgotten. We understand not having inventory but we would've appreciated the communication instead of having us wait around thinking it's still coming. After we had already paid and we are about to leave, the server returned and said they had found a little flour left and could make some chicken for us. It was honestly frustrating and made the overall experience feel subpar. This is a more casual made to order tteokbokki and fried chicken place. I tried the fish cake skewer (not pictured), the cheese dusted fried chicken, and the Dookki best tteokbokki. The chicken I believe can be a little less fried and or double fried for more crunch, but the flavor is still great! You get a LOOOOT of food for your money and honestly in this economy, thats an A+. They were quick to tend to our calls for water and turning off the fire to prevent overcooking. The food came out fairly quick but of course, keep in mind they cook it after you order. The restaurant is very open, very close to traditional asian restaurants where you can socialize and just chat amongst each other. Music plays in the background to vibe and invite socialization. This place just opened recently, so I decided to give it a try for dinner. We can choose the type of rice cake and toppings, and the kitchen prepares it fresh for you. We also ordered the mixed fried snacks and fish cake skewers. The tteokbokki was okay, but compared to other places in Fullerton or Buena Park, the flavor felt a bit mild and less memorable. The fish cake soup wasn't quite what I expected, as the broth could have been richer. I finally had the chance to try Dookki recently. I was really intrigued about the "build your own" concept and found it super unique and interactive. I loved the unique rice cake options and enjoyed the corn cheese one most! In addition, they have multiple options for veggies and protein (sometimes not listed on the glass so actually look at what they are offering). From my understanding, they have some sort of weight limit, but its still decent amount of food. The smallest size fed 2 and we ordered some chicken thighs as well. The chicken was a miss for me, as the breading to chicken ratio was too high, the chicken was also pretty dry.
