Tucked inside of pretentious Lincoln Park is this delightful little cookie shop. It's pretty simple: they make amazing cookies and they're open really late. Who knew that such a cookie shop would be so popular?! I had their snickerdoodle: so moist and full of flavor! Just perfect. My husband ordered the ice cream cookie sandwich with m&m cookies -- the ice cream was generous and the cookies were phenomenal. The sandwich itself was a bite of sugary heaven. There were a couple stools near the window to sit and munch on cookies, but most people seemed to get them to go. If I frequented this area, I'd probably swing by here after every night at the bar. When the Lincoln Park location opened a few years ago, I was totally down for Insomnia's cookies and methodology. Now, three years later--no one else has caught up to them except themselves. The prices have gone up a dime a cookie per year, which is totally fine, since I get that the costs of goods continues to rise. The cookie I tried was the peanut butter cup deluxe cookie. It was moist and piping hot and very good, as you would expect. However, I was hoping for more unique flavors and not just ones that I could find at any restaurant or shop. It was a little bit disappointing. I had an impulsive craving for sweets at like 10pm on a Sunday night. I was really hoping to score some gourmet cheesecake or something similar but Insomnia was about the only option at this dead time and my friends usually are constrained by their own budgets, which limits us a lot too. Off to the city we go! The store itself is pretty small on the inside and they have all kinds of cookies, ice cream and similar items. We couldn't decide how to split up our cookies so we opted for one of everything in the quantity of a dozen. I thought the sugar cookie, double chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip were the breadwinners of the bunch, the others were just fair. I'd argue that my mother can make an equally as good chocolate chip, and perhaps oatmeal, too. What really set me back was the price. We paid $16 for 12 cookies. While my sugar craving was satisfied, my wallet was begging for sweet mercy. Their establishments are extremely small and the only place inside to sit is a small high table with 3 bar stools. When I got there with one friend, there was empty chipotle trash spread out all over the table and it was kind of busy so I thought it might be another customers. But nope. One of the workers in the lobby said it belonged to another EMPLOYEE THERE. So I literally scooped up all their chipotle and threw it out for them and said "hire me then!!" Literally why would you leave all your trash out in the lobby of any establishment that you work at. And not just eat your lunch in the back. Love this place! After complaining the night before I wanted something sweet my friend and I decided to head here and arrived right at opening. I am such a sweet fiend and tears of joy were in my eye perusing the cookie display case. We seriously took about 10 minutes to weigh our options. I decided to go with the ice cream sandwich. I chose two different cookies. For the top I did the peanut butter chocolate and for the bottom I chose the smores delux. For the ice cream I went with Rocky Road. Miraculously before my friend orders I told him to go outside and feed the meter. I got my cookie sandwich before he came back and thank goodness we were able to see how big the finishing product was and we totally shared. Honestly probably 3 or 4 could share. It was delicious! The cookies were soft, but had substance and didn't just taste like cookie dough. They were warm, gooey, and just plan awesome! I had a caramel frappuccino on my way here and I couldn't finish half a cookie, but that didn't stop me from taking a dozen home :-D We also got the (just out of the oven) warm brownie with a scoop of ice cream, my niece devoured in minutes and my bro had the Deluxe A La Mode - warm deluxe chocolate peanut butter cup cookie topped with a scoop of rocky road ice cream, his calling combo. After arriving home the cookies were still gooey and soft in the inside and a little crispy on the edges just perfect! BTW that's a 20min drive and then they sat on the counter for an hour. The first time I called after those 2 hours they blamed the weather, though it's a clear night, and said it would go out with the next driver. An hour later I called again, and they said they were down a driver but it would be here in the next 20 minutes. I called 30 minutes later and was told there actually isn't a driver and there hadn't been one for over an hour. I finally got a refund with no effort to extend any offers to make up for the fact that I just waited 3 and a half hours for nothing. Also note all other similar services had been closed at this point. Be warned: they accept orders for delivery even when they have no way of delivering. They do not notify when it's going to take longer than expected. They do not notify when they make the decision not to deliver your order.
