Instead of apologizing she insisted that their estimated time was not guaranteed. Not at any moment did she apologize for anything nor seem to care about their terrible, terrible service. My friends were watching the Thursday Night Football game with me and had to go home because the game had ended and could not wait anymore for this cookie. Tucked inside of pretentious Lincoln Park is this delightful little cookie shop. It's pretty simple: they make amazing cookies and they're open really late. Who knew that such a cookie shop would be so popular?! I had their snickerdoodle: so moist and full of flavor! Just perfect. My husband ordered the ice cream cookie sandwich with m&m cookies -- the ice cream was generous and the cookies were phenomenal. The sandwich itself was a bite of sugary heaven. There were a couple stools near the window to sit and munch on cookies, but most people seemed to get them to go. If I frequented this area, I'd probably swing by here after every night at the bar. When the Lincoln Park location opened a few years ago, I was totally down for Insomnia's cookies and methodology. Now, three years later--no one else has caught up to them except themselves. The prices have gone up a dime a cookie per year, which is totally fine, since I get that the costs of goods continues to rise. But the quality is definitely lower, the cookies are definitely smaller, and the strangest thing of all--no matter what time of the week I show up, no matter what day of the week it is, I cannot get a hot ******* cookie to save my life! The cookie I tried was the peanut butter cup deluxe cookie. It was moist and piping hot and very good, as you would expect. However, I was hoping for more unique flavors and not just ones that I could find at any restaurant or shop. It was a little bit disappointing. I had an impulsive craving for sweets at like 10pm on a Sunday night. I was really hoping to score some gourmet cheesecake or something similar but Insomnia was about the only option at this dead time and my friends usually are constrained by their own budgets, which limits us a lot too. We couldn't decide how to split up our cookies so we opted for one of everything in the quantity of a dozen. I thought the sugar cookie, double chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip were the breadwinners of the bunch, the others were just fair. I'd argue that my mother can make an equally as good chocolate chip, and perhaps oatmeal, too. What really set me back was the price. We paid $16 for 12 cookies. While my sugar craving was satisfied, my wallet was begging for sweet mercy. The first time I called after those 2 hours they blamed the weather, though it's a clear night, and said it would go out with the next driver. An hour later I called again, and they said they were down a driver but it would be here in the next 20 minutes. I called 30 minutes later and was told there actually isn't a driver and there hadn't been one for over an hour. I finally got a refund with no effort to extend any offers to make up for the fact that I just waited 3 and a half hours for nothing. Also note all other similar services had been closed at this point. Be warned: they accept orders for delivery even when they have no way of delivering. They do not notify when it's going to take longer than expected. They do not notify when they make the decision not to deliver your order. Our son went to our local DeKalb location. Placed an order with one of the three clerks working. After nearly 15 minutes in line, he reached the counter to pay and was told THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CASH! No signs on the doors, windows or even the plastic COVID counter shield, no warning whatsoever. He canceled his order and left in disgust. They claim it's due to COVID but this is the only business I've encountered in two years worth of pandemic restrictions that will not accept cash "due to COVID". WTF.
