I had a wrap for lunch and wasn't too hungry for dinner on a Thursday evening. I did want something sweet though! Looking on Yelp for sweet treats in the Financial District, I noticed Insomnia Cookies popped up on the list! This store is a quick service location. There are no seats inside it. The team member who was helping out the customers was friendly though! Looking over their menu options at this location Insomnia Cookies offers their regular cookies, deluxe cookies, brownies, and ice creams here. I did originally ask for the chocolate chunk blondie, but the only brownie that was left in stock was the chocolate chip brownie. I did get one of those. I also ended up getting a M&M cookie and their caramel ice cream. The ice cream scoop was the Caramellionaire. This was salted caramel cookies in salted caramel ice cream with caramel swirls. It was my favorite out of all three items I got at Insomnia cookies. The ice cream was perfect! There was plenty of swirls of caramel and pieces of the salted caramel cookies scattered in the ice cream. It was also semi melted when I got back to the hotel to eat it which blended even more of the caramel flavors! The Brownie was unfortunately too hard to eat. The M&M cookie was great though! It was still slightly warm. The chocolate morsels were still melted inside the cookie! I'd come back to Insomnia Cookies just for the ice cream! Same selection of cookies they have at every insomnia cookies along with their limited time specials. Cookies here are always good and come warm :). LOOK.... They're not the best cookies in the city-for that, go to Levain or Funny Face. BUT when you want a late-night sweet treat when everything else is closed, Insomnia does the trick. Their cookies are decent (I prefer a thick cookie which isn't the style here), and my favorite is the Triple Chocolate Chunk. But what I like even more is their ice cream: they surprisingly have really tasty flavors, and my favorites are their Cookie Dough, Dreamweaver (purple ice cream? Fun!) and Carmellionare. I had had a really lackluster dinner my final evening in NY. The portion of my dinner could literally fit in the palm of my hand so by the time I got back to my hotel, I was hungry again. As soon as we walked in, it smelled of baked butter, sugar, and chocolate which made my tummy growl wildly and the cookies looked amazing. The price point is pretty high, but they have various sizes of cookies. We start ordering our cookies to find out some of them were sold out. That's a bit disappointing but it's late and I guess to be expected. We pay for the cookies and the guy goes back to assemble our order with various new choices we made and what was really thoughtful and good service, he threw in some extras since he could see we were disappointed that ones we wanted were gone. Honestly, even if I wasn't a huge fan of the cookies, I'd go back for the principle of good service which is harder to find these days. I loved the cookies so I'd go back for them anyhow. They were soft, chewy, and flavorful. Even the base of the cookie was flavorful. I judge cookies that have add ins like chocolate chips or nuts or whatever based on what the base of the cookie would taste like and this one had a nice toffee flavor but wasn't overly sweet. There's has been a debate over insomnia and crumble over who got better cookies and I was able to try it yesterday. I'd say Insomnia cookies are like your typical cookie and crumble would be what I'd go for on a day where I want something different. The inside of this location is really small with only 1 seating area and 2 chairs. I tried their double chocolate and red velvet which is just your typical cookie, nothing really special. The flavors that stood out to me the most are White Chocolate Macadamia (but nothing can beat Costco's), Double Chocolate Mint, and Peanut Butter Chip. Another customer in front of me got a bunch of Key Lime cookies so I decided to give it a try. Thanks, but no thanks! At the time of our visit (1:45AM), the store only had a few flavors from their full range offered, but we were more than happy to order two ice cream sandwiches: one deluxe and one regular. Delicious, gooey goodness. Milk and cookies has long since lost its crown to ice cream, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The cookies are well made, not too dense but also not too crumbly.
