I was sending a box of cupcakes to my dog breeder in North Carolina and I live in Los Angeles. I had no idea what to expect but as a food blogger, I had read wonderful reviews about this business. I have always liked the tiny cupcakes idea from Baked by Melissa's (I followed her on Instagram and know of her story for more than a decade). But I really think these tiny cupcakes are way overpriced. To sum- they are alright and I feel like whenever I get Baked By Melissa's, I am paying for fancy packaging. The staff are nice. But it's like buying a very nice cover book with ok storyline inside. I can't justify the quality of the cupcake with it being $3.75+ each. If it doesn't taste as good as Molly's, Magnolia or Butter Lane Cupcakes, or even the tiny cupcakes from Crumbs Cupcakes from grocery stores - Why bother spending more for way less with a variety? I can justify macaroons selling at a higher price tag because they are so freaking hard to make, but tiny cupcakes? No. I can make them at home at a 1/4 of the price. Started in 2009 their initial popularity as a fad (mini cupcakes! had anyone heard of something so extraordinary! and in so many flavors!) around Manhattan this meant they grew exponentially. They have expanded nationwide now and also ship directly to you if you order online. The set up in most of their retail locations is simple--a mini-storefront* sometimes just a stand or window, with mini-cupcakes, it's a takeout-only concept, no seating. My perennial favorites are the peanut butter jelly and the mint chocolate, though the red velvet is up there too. The cupcakes are moist, cute, with a little dollop or swirl of frosting, cream, and/or other sweet item on top, some of them have a bit of cream or jelly piped into their mini centers. They offer gluten, vegan and nut-free options, and have also expanded their product offerings by adding macarons. The only thing that perhaps isn't as mini is the relative price compared to their size, a 25-pack starts at $34, and online on their website a 50 pack starts at $70, 100-pack starts at $135. If you're looking for a more filling dessert then I'd suggest getting regular sized cupcakes. *which keeps their operating expenses mini too. read more

As someone with a serious sweet tooth, I was really excited to try this spot. Unfortunately, the mini muffins didn't quite live up to the hype for me. They were just okay--nothing particularly memorable in terms of flavor or texture. This is my go-to Baked By Melissa location. It's not far into Manhattan which is ideal for someone who resides in Brooklyn. There's usually a couple of people on line upon arrival but it goes by quickly. The location isn't the largest but it does the job. It's pretty straight forward in terms of selecting from the various options available. The 25 pack of Latest and Greatest is highly recommended. I love to come here for themed Cupcakes such as Valentine's Day and the Spring collection. I've placed an order online for in-store pickup in the past. My order was ready without any issues. I ordered cupcakes to be delivered on my daughter's birthday at her workplace. I filled out their form which asked the date I wanted them delivered. I entered my daughter's birthday. A few hours later, I am notified and that the cupcakes will be delivered the day before her birthday. And on a day that she is working at home. This company completely ruined the surprise as I had to tell my daughter in advance. I brought this to their attention and all they said was sorry, our website wasn't clear that dates are not guaranteed. Then why ask me for a specific date? We were extremely disappointed. This bakery came very highly recommended for their product and delivery options. We did a special delivery for a special teacher who was having his first ever theater production. Although the product was delivered the card in which we took the time to write the information that we wanted to say was not delivered with it. So therefore, he had no clue where the gift came from if it was really for him, the list goes on. This is very disappointing because we sent this gift in our absence and we wanted him to know that we were very proud of him and giving congratulations on his first ever teaching show. However, this was not known until days later when we had to reach out to see if he had even received it. This is very disheartening caused some anxiety on our end as well as he is thinking that his parents did not care about his first production. After visiting the location in Penn station and buying amazingly fresh macaroons for my mother over thanksgiving, I came to this location to purchase macaroons and cupcakes for a Christmas treat. $165 later for two packs of macaroons and two packs of cupcakes. My mother, boyfriend, and I taste the macaroons to find them being soggy. I specifically asked about freshness multiple times and the girl guaranteed me that they were made that day. I could tell as I was eating the macaroon that they were not made that day, as they were mushy and soggy and taste as if they just came out of a grease. I used to be a huge fan of Baked by Melissa. But it seems the quality has changed over the last few years. At $2.75 (or soemthing similar) per cupcake, The price is very steep for the size of cake that you get. However, I used to justify it because the flavors were unique and the cake was moist and decadant. Upon my last visit, they were only selling them by the box (this change happened during COVID), and when I ate them, all of the cupcakes were dry. I visited on 6/24, Thursday weekday afternoon and it was not crowded at all. In fact, I was the only one there after arriving when someone left. The quality of the cupcakes is divine and the flavors were all pretty distinctly unique. One complain, however, is how closely the chocolate based cupcakes resemble each other. The taste of the chocolate cupcake is so prominent that it sort of overpowers the frosting and toppings. My favorite cupcake is the mint cookie as it has this amazing crumbly, sand like texture that borderline melts in your melt. I was ecstatic to receive a surprise delivery of Baked by Melissa cupcakes today from my friends! All the bite-sized goodness straight to my front door. I got the Latest and Greatest sampler that comes with 25 mini cupcakes in 12 different flavors! My favorites from the originals are the PB&J (it's truly heavenly), the triple chocolate fudge (a dream) and the chocolate chip pancake (such a treat). There's three new flavors from the spring collection, and I can honestly rave that the cookie butter just melts in your mouth. I am so disappointed with this company's delivery service. I ordered cupcakes on 6/22 for my friend's birthday to be delivered on 6/26, and paid extra for them to be delivered by Monday. My friend lives 3 hrs and 15 mins from where the order was filled , but they still have not been delivered yet today 6/27. I kept checking the tracking yesterday and the order was still " out for delivery" at 10:30 pm!! I sent several emails and left a phone message, but no one has called to apologize, offer a full refund, actually drive fresh cupcakes the 3 hrs to my friend- nothing! this is a horrible way to do business. The had a good variety of options and more than enough to choose from. I don't love chocolate so I gravitated toward vanilla options and those cupcakes made up 5 of my 6 selections. The six minis went for $7. Maybe a little high, but I swear it's worth it. I came in at a time when I was the only one at the shop. The staff member was very nice but it was beyond hot in the store.
