Chocolate Chip Walnut their signature cookie and it is a good one, filled with a large amount of chewy gooey chocolate chips and walnuts. This is a must, get it. Oatmeal Raisin is also filled with oatmeal and tons of raisin, Great cookie Lemon is very delicious and cant go wrong, must say I was very pleasantly surprised Two Chip Chocolate Chip, you have to have milk with this one. The overall must have is the Chocolate Chip Walnut, absolutely one of the best cookies that I have had. Best Cookies in New York
If you're in NYC and love cookies, Levain Bakery is a must. The cookies are absolutely massive and unlike any cookie I've had before. They're not thin, flat, or super chewy. They're somewhere between a cookie and a little cake, with a crisp exterior and a soft, rich center. Fresh, warm, and incredibly delicious. I also appreciated that they offer a vegan/gluten-free option, so there's something for more people to enjoy. The ice cream was creamy and paired perfectly with the cookies. The bakery was packed when we visited, but the line moved surprisingly fast thanks to the efficient and friendly staff. Everyone we interacted with was courteous and pleasant, even with the constant stream of customers. It's easy to see why this place is so popular. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning fan, Levain lives up to the hype.
The staff here is friendly and service was good. This place can definitely get busy. There is not much seating inside. The place was clean and modern. I got the main Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie and it was delicious. I ate it right away while it was still hot. I loved the gooey texture inside of the cookie and the melted chocolate. This was probably one of the best cookies I have tried. I definitely will come back to try out the other cookies.
There is so much hype about this Bakery that I had to try it. My sister came in here, saw the price of one cookie, made a U-turn and did not go back. I sucked it up and bought her and her husband, a cookie and my nephew, a cookie. They thought it was the best cookie ever. I went back at least three more times before I came back to California. Six dollars is a lot to pay for one cookie, but they are huge and they can definitely be shared. I also recommend getting the scones. They are very yummy as well.
Top 3 choco chip cookies of all time. I think half a cookie is perfect for one person so definitely share. The outer crust is caramelized to perfection with an ooey gooey inside. The walnuts are a true game changer. They aren't tiny bits but whole walnut chunks in there and it elevates the taste entirely. Def recommend and will go back to try different flavors
The Levain Bakery that everyone is always talking about being full! In the past months I've been visiting, theres been little to no line. It could be because its a little cold, but even on the warmer days where its 60 degrees, little to no line! Very surpised as I for one love their warm, chocolatey chip melty cookies! I love their black and white chocolate chip cookies and their white chocolate macademia cookie. Their white chocolate macademia cookie is the bestttttt. Unfortunately, they dont have it as often as they have their black and white chocolate chip cookie, so I settle for their black and white chocolate chip cookie until they bring back their white chocolate macademia!
I am super picky about my desserts since I don't really have much of a sweet tooth, but this cookie was pretty good! - Caramel coconut chocolate chip: I liked the coconut flakes/chunks, though I couldn't really taste the caramel flavor. We normally try to make it to the original location if possible, but we were in the area. We ordered quickly and the staff was friendly. We got four cookies, their classic walnut chocolate chip, the two chip chocolate chip, the coconut chocolate chip, and the coffee toffee. The coffee toffee was delicious! If you like coconut, the coconut chocolate chip wouldn't be bad. All their cookies are always crisp on the outside, but deliciously soft and moist on the inside. There was a small area to put your items down and get situated. Not a bad location at all. No line when we came in the late morning, but it was also snowing and cold outside!

If you're into cookies in NYC, a commonly known tidbit is that Levain has some of the best chocolate chip cookies in the city. While they first opened as a regular bakery in 1995 on 74th Street in the UWS, their cookies really hit it big in the early 2010's--suddenly everyone was talking about the cookies that were not only delicious but massive, like the size of a small fist. Fast forward to now, they have numerous locations across 7 states, including NY, NJ, IL, DC, MD, MA, and PA, with new stores opening in CA. Walking into each store the look is consistent, deep blue subway tile, light-toned wood, mixed with white walls, a clean and welcoming aesthetic to showcase pastries. While they have a handful of other pastries, their main product aside from cookies are their freshly baked bread loaves--French bread and sourdough are good here. The cookies are the stars here--they're most well-known for their chocolate chip cookies, which are indeed delicious, and really you can or should only eat half a cookie at a time considering how buttery and chocolatey they are. Aside from quality chocolate and other ingredients, part of their draw is using brown butter and a well-balanced use of salt. However they aren't quite at the top of my list for three reasons: 1) I find them a little too gooey in the middle instead of chewy...my preferences are soft, chewy and more cooked, less oily. 2) If you set this cookie down on a napkin for 15 minutes and pick it up again you'll see what I mean. 3) There are a looooot of good chocolate chip cookie recipes out there and many a bakery makes a delicious version (I mean they are chocolate chip cookies after all)--though of course part of the draw is their consistency. Oops and while this isn't necessarily a deterrent, 4) though they're still very large, maybe I'm imagining things, but the cookie size feels a little smaller compared to the 10 years ago. That being said I'm not going to say no if you offer me a Levain chocolate chip cookie...

Their newest seasonal cranberry pistachio cookie was delicious!! 11/10. Seriously. Not too sweet or overdone - and a bit of a healthier alternative if you don't want all the sugar from their chocolate cookies. Massive in size, and filling. I had to eat mine in 2 sittings. Visit June 2026: This was a target visit from my daughters. The family has a sweet tooth lol. =) Levain is pretty popular and has several locations in NY. I'd never heard of it being in San Diego (apparently there are a few stores in LA). I ordered a seasonal cookie-pistacho and raspberry. I like both and more importantly I know that nobody else in the family likes either really so I get a cookie all to myself lol. There were also white chocolate chips. Generous amount of key ingredients in each bite. Sweet and savory combo always wins. The cookie was crisp with a slightly caramelized edge on the outside. Inside was soft and chewy. I paired it with an iced mocha which was just okay. I don't remember what cookies the family got and didn't take pictures anyways lol. Service was friendly talking bout the signature cookies. Inside is pretty spacious with a large bench and several counter seats. We enjoyed our cookies there. Definitely worth a return visit to try not just their cookies but other baked goods. read more

Levain Bakery was one of my many stops on my solo foodie tour. I had to see what the hype was about. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie. Personally, it's not my style--too chunky and not sweet enough for my liking. The cookies are fresh, though. Service is quick and the staff is really nice, it's just not my preferred type of cookie. However, plenty of people absolutely love it, and the lines were LONG, so it's definitely worth a try if you're curious. Overall, I'm glad I went and checked it off my foodie list! read more

Found out about this place on Instagram. Long line, tiny place, staff wasn't very friendly and the cookies were okayish. Definitely over hyped place. The cookies look giant in pics but they're standard size IRL. Latte was ok. The sandwiches were super hard to eat, the bread wasn't soft. Not sure why everyone loves it so much. read more

I love me my chocolate chip cookies so I was beyond excited to try this extremely popular bakery. The line wasn't too bad and they have several people taking orders which helps the line move pretty quick. The team member who helped me was really kind in giving me their opinions on which flavors to get. There's minimal seating options but there are stools up for grabs so you can enjoy your cookie(s) inside. Now, onto the cookie itself. It was a good, dense and cake-like chocolate chip cookie. We got the classic chocolate chip walnut, the chocolate chip caramel coconut, and the triple chocolate. My favorite was the caramel coconut because it's a unique flavor. I'm more of a thin, crispy-on-the-outside and soft-on-the-inside cookie person so it's really up to your preference but overall, I'd recommend people try this place out. People were walking out with bags full of cookies so clearly, it's a hit! read more

You can smell cookies being baked once you walk in. There is always a line at this location but moves pretty quick. Staff are very welcoming and sweet. Ordered two original chocolate chip cookies with walnuts. It's $5.75 for one cookie, but it is a big portion. Had it after dinner and it was still soft and gooey. These make great gifts, snacks and desserts. read more

So glad I got to finally try Levain. I've of course tried all the copycat recipes at home, but there's something about actually coming here that can't be beat. First, the SMELL! Oh my goodness. You walk in and are hit by a wall of delicious smells. It's magical. The fresh, warm, gooey cookie right when you purchase is unmatched. However, I saved half of mine for a day (it is pretty large and rich) and it kept so well and was just as delicious 24hrs later. I got the chocolate peanut butter chip cookie and as a PB lover it really hit the spot. So incredible. There was a line but it moves fast and the workers are always kind while keeping the line moving. read more

Levain never disappoints. The chocolate chip walnut cookie is STILL that girl thick, gooey in the center, crispy on the outside, and packed with melty chocolate. Easily my #1.But let's talk about that brioche cinnamon bread... wow. Soft, buttery, perfectly sweet with that cinnamon swirl definitely second place right behind the walnut cookie. So fresh and comforting And the iced mocha latte? Yes yes yes. Smooth, chocolatey, and the perfect balance to cut through all that sweetness.Everything tastes fresh, indulgent, and worth it. This is the cookie that launched a thousand ships? Seriously? I'm years behind the curve on this one, but I finally tried it. And I was underwhelmed. It's an ok cookie, but after hearing all the hype, I was expecting more. Much more. At the end of the day, it's just a cookie. And it's not a cookie that I'll be dreaming about or giving much more thought to once I post this review. I ordered the chocolate chip walnut and the oatmeal raisin. Excited to try the cookies I'd heard so much about, I ate them in the store, barely stopping to take a photo. Both cookies were slightly warm, but the chocolate chips were neither gooey nor melty. (The raisins were just slightly warm raisins.) Both cookies were absolutely fine. Neither was too sweet. The thickness seemed like a fun departure from standard flatter cookies. But neither cookie was anything special. If someone gave me a Levain cookie, I'd eat it. But that's where things end for me. I certainly wouldn't tell everyone I know to stand on line for these things. read more

Stopped by LAVAIN Bakery in NoHo, NYC. The pastries were good, but not mind-blowing. The outer shell was a bit hard, giving it more of a scone-like texture, while the inside was soft and tender. It's definitely worth a try if you're in the area and want a sweet treat, but I wouldn't say it's a must-visit compared to other NYC bakeries. Solid, just not extraordinary. read more

I'm a chocolate chip cookie fanatic and this is without a doubt my favorite cookie place ever. I am definitely a thick gooey fluffy on the inside cookie lover. But I love that the outside is still slightly crispy here. Every cookie is also so warm and fresh. Of the flavors at levain my ranking goes: Oatmeal raisin, Caramel coconut, choco pb, choco walnut, choco peppermint, double chocolate, lemon, b&w, toffee, rocky road, FALL CHOCO CHUNK is by far the worst More detailed notes: Tried the b&w limited one. It did taste a little diff but kinda too sweet wish it had smtg like the walnut one to cut the sweetness. Didn't taste much dark chocolate. Great cookie always tho Choco peppermint limited time is good!!! I like peppermint tastes kinda like a fudgy thin mint. It is very sweet tho Coffee toffee base cookie was good slight coffee notes. Lowkey did not like the crunchy sticky toffee texture. Flavor was good tho Lemon one is cool bc diff but its just a tad too sweet imo read more

This location was pretty busy compared to most locations I visited, I also think I have experienced better customer service at other locations as well. I think this location, maybe due to all the traffic it receives, the greetings were less warm. They didn't have the warm welcoming that the smaller locations seem to have, it was just like who's next? I did have a guy who helped me and was very polite, assisted me with a dilemma I was having. I was told that the carrot cake cookies would be ready in 8 minutes by a girl who I told that I would return for it. Came back and she was M.I.A., I tried to get another girl to assist me after she was helping someone but she just kind of ignored me. I didn't want to have to stand in now a long line after already making a visit and now a return for my cookie. I'm glad the guy assisted me otherwise I would have just left. He did explain to me the cookie had apricot and pecans, I appreciate that because what if I had a nut allergy. So I'm gonna give 3.5 stars for customer service and an overall four because the cookie was delicious and the male baker, helped me have a better experience. The popularity of Levain Bakery is what made me seek out this shop on my visit to NYC. I heard the hype about the giant chocolate chip cookie so I had to come see what it was all about. We came on a weekday afternoon and there was a good line at the bakery already. Luckily the line moved at a decent speed. I found out their most popular cookie is the chocolate chip walnut cookie so that's the one I tried. I also bought the Two Chip Chocolate Chip cookie for someone else. The cookies were $5.25 each. The chocolate chip walnut cookie was large in size (very thick) and pretty good. I only ate half and was already sugared out. (But to be fair, I had an ice cream before coming here.) Levain Bakery's cookie are huge. You can watch the workers make the giant scoops of cookies in the back. They have a variety of chocolate cookie flavor as well as oatmeal raisin. They usually have a limited edition cookie flavor and when I went, it was lemon cookie. They also sell pastries and loaf slices - lemon and coffee cake. In case you are interested, they give out postcards that have a map of NYC. The staff provided good customer service and the shop was fairly clean. read more

Im neutral about the cookies. Nothing stood out and nothing was necessarily bad either. We ordered four flavors and a slice of the lemon cake. The OG chocolate chip walnut was the best along with the dark chocolate peanut butter. Both had very rich flavors and would be the main reason to try this place out. The carrot cake had pieces of what I think is dried apricot? It was different to say the least. Lemon cake was basic, and the plain chocolate chip cookie was a little too bitter for me personally. Service was great, the staff are friendly and attentive. It was also fast both waiting in line and getting the cookies. The ambiance is cute, nice wall art and simple store decor. read more

Before traveling to NY I started to see mixed reviews on Levain's. Some said great and some said overhyped. I am SO glad that I didn't listen to the people saying it was overhyped. There was a line just to the door so the wait was not that bad. They run the store very efficiently and that is to no one's surprise when you have to make as many delicious cookies as this place does. I got a double chip Ala'mode and asked for two spoons just in case someone wanted to try it. I didn't have to force anyone but after my first bite of that cookie I insisted. A nice crunch on the outside with a softer center full of chocolate chips and somehow not overly chocolaty tastes. Which made me love it because I only like a little bit of chocolate. The ice cream was so creamy and a perfect compliment to what I can say was one of the best cookies I have ever had. My recommendation is try it, you will not be disappointed. read more

Levain's Chocolate Chip Walnut cookie is still my #1 till this day - crunchy on the outside but super gooey and soft inside! I love it so much that no other chocolate chip cookie can ever compare! I also like their oatmeal raisin cookie. This time, I tried the lemon cookie and it was amazzing!! It tasted like a lemon pound cake in cookie form! Tried their panna ice cream x cookie product & the cookie was delicious as ever but the panna vanilla ice cream was standard. It was nothing spectacular. I also tried their baguette w/ jam + butter & it was so delicious! That jam + butter was crack! read more

Levain is just one of those places we had to try, because the hype is so high. For me, the hype was so high that I thought it could never live up to the expectations, and so my expectations were actually low! We got one chocolate chip walnut and one double chocolate chip. The chocolate chip walnut was delicious - great balance of chocolate and walnut and cookie. The double chocolate was disappointing - the chocolate a little too dark and the cookie too dry. My fave cookie from Levain is still the gluten dairy free chocolate walnut chip cookie! A generous chunk filled with nuts and chips... I split mine in half and ate it in 2 days lol Also tried their new lemon cookie filled initially with what I thought was white chocolate chips, but it was actually lemon chips. Pretty good. Always a must stop when walking through the city : ) read more

I was in the neighborhood and saw Levain Bakery! This spot was brightly lit with so many baked goods on display. Had to grab a cookie, so I got a seasonal, Caramel coconut & chocolate chip! It's a SOLID cookie. I bake cookies and they're never this thick. Every bite had chocolate chips. It's great if you like indulging in sweet cookies, but I prefer less chocolate and a more chewy texture. Still, it was a good cookie and I can see why people enjoy them from Levain Bakery. The guy behind the counter seemed a bit impatient because I didn't know what to order. This was my first time here, so naturally I wasn't sure what to get. I'm glad I got the chance to try this famous bakery! Yum! read more
