Coffee was decent, and we were excited to sit in the beautifully decorated and shady front patio area, which is beautifully green. However, after getting our coffees around 11am on a Saturday, we were told that we weren't allowed to sit in the front patio area unless we bought cocktails, even though the patio was practically empty. (A little warning would have been nice beforehand.) We were only allowed to sit in the lobby or the back patio area, which was not nearly as nice. February 2023: Had I known that I run past Intelligentsia whenever I do a run on the west side, I'd have visited them when they opened in NYC. The coffeeshop is located inside The Highline Hotel (which is not on the Highline). I came here on the windiest NYC day and their seasonal latte warmed my cold heart. It was so good with a kick of cinnamon. The space inside is cramped; the outdoor patio would be opened up during warmer weather. I did like the ambience of the place even if it was tiny. It was cozy yet elegant with comfy couch seating. I saw several tourists take out their laptops and work... on their literal lap. In my opinion, I would only come here to grab coffee as it doesn't seem to be the greatest place to work in, especially with the dim lighting. Service was ok, they were pretty busy and inattentive; the barista did not call out the drinks lying on the counter after he was done making them. I had to hunt down one of the baristas just to figure out which one was mine and another customer's. Overall, it's a good coffeeshop with high quality drinks. I don't recall any pastries or food. Not a fan. I stood in a long queue for a decaf Americano with 2% milk. Folks who ordered lattes after me got their beverages before I did. And the coffee wasn't good. It was what Starbucks does with decaf: pour over brew, which is a glorified version of what is the equivalent of a tea bag. The process yields what is a watery, weak, less than desirable texture. You're ("you're" meaning the vendor) spending money on this pour over thing that's not good if it's not done right, so why not just spend the money to do a real brew? I might have made the decaf a latte then. And did I mention I was served after other people behind me in line were, for a tea-like coffee with some milk thrown in? Was I not posh and, therefore, worthy enough to be served because I didn't order an ultra-caffeinated latte? The one saving grace of my visit was the atmosphere and the location: the High Line Hotel, which used to be a part of the adjacent General Theological Seminary. But there are other places in the neighborhood and beyond to get better coffee and service. read more

This is a very cute place to get coffee, go on a date, or work out of! The hotel has a beautifully decorated floral arch that greets you with bright colors as you walk in. It's spacious inside the hotel where you can have a date or work. I will say there aren't many outlet options. The decoration is very vintage and woodcentric. Barista alert: 'tude - dude didn't like my ask of less ice for an iced tea drink so he filled the cup 3/4 full with tea & ice instead. When I called him on topping it off he simply filled the cup up with more ice. Passive aggressive? You tell me! .... As to the iced tea with too much ice - less flavor. $6+ for ice & flavored water? ... maybe if Intelligentsia really wants to be "intelligent" instruct the baristas in getting their game on instead of crying over a few pennies it might cost to add TEA/water to a specialty drink? I am a HUGE Intelligentsia fan! We brew Intelligentsia coffee at home, and anytime we are in Chicago and LA we stop by the stores for delicious lattes and food, and to buy more cups. Every time I visit any city I double check to see if there is an Intelligentsia there. New York has never had one, so I was delighted to find this location this time. Intelligentsia is located inside the High Line Hotel, which is absolutely lovely from what I saw of it. While the coffee shop appears to be more of when a hotel brews Starbucks coffee vs has a Starbucks inside it, however I was assured this was not the case. They do sell some Intelligentsia items, however not the trademark state cups which was a disappointment. I ordered a latte with their Oatly milk. I love this milk so much! If you are looking for a dairy free alternative I highly recommend it! The pastries were good looking, but I opted for a bar. The bar was so good I am ordering them to have at home. Wow! There is an inside and outside area to order and sit both of which are beautiful. The only reason I give this place 4 stars vs 5 is because it is not your typical Intelligentsia experience. What a spot! It is one of the more unique places you will come across. Let me walk you through the set up... it is a courtyard in front of the high line hotel with a double decker bus that has been converted into a coffee shop. The 2nd deck of the bus has small tables where you can sit and enjoy your drink. The courtyard has a bunch of tables and some trees so it is a picturesque setting. No Longer a Haven for Tea Drinkers! In the past, Intelligentsia was reliable for excellent loose leaf tea, well brewed. As of 2023, the only loose leaf black tea they have is Earl Grey (not what I want to drink in the morning) and their tea bags left my tea full of leaf debris. No longer do you receive a real tea cup, now it's just like every other cafe with their paper cups. Go elsewhere if you want a good cup of tea. read more

Very cozy little coffee shop that can be found inside of the Highline Hotel. I've been to Intelligentsia coffee shops before and thoroughly enjoy their product. This time, however, was slightly different. There are two reasons I'm giving this location three stars instead of the four stars which they would have gotten at other locations I've been to. Price... price and flavor. Let me explain... I had ordered two matcha lattes with oat milk. Now, I certainly understand that there's a slight premium here, but I was so completely caught off guard when the barista rang me up. Almost SEVENTEEN DOLLARS for two drinks. The only thing that rivals that outrageous price is when I was in London. The height of the pound which was $1.97 USD for every £1 - that's the time I paid almost $8 USD for a grande latte from Starbucks. Usually a fan, Intelligentsia, but this was highway robbery. On the flavor front, the taste was too milky and not matcha-y-enough. read more

Cute coffee shop inside the Highline Hotel in Chelsea. The shop was very classy and had an olden day feel to it. I felt like I was getting coffee in the 1960s. Leather couches and tables are all around. There's a patio area in front too if you want to enjoy the weather. Service was super friendly and patient. Got the Herbal Tea and my friend got a Latte. I'll admit I was craving Intelligentsia after watching Jerry Seinfeld's episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee with Bill Burr. This location is very swanky and in the lobby of the High Line Hotel, directly in front of you as you enter. The pour-over is very smooth and high-quality, and is one of the best I've had in the city. However, it's so expensive that I wouldn't be able to make this a regular spot! A plain coffee was more than $4, double its counterparts nearby. The cappuccino is also more than $5, and the portion you get is very limited (a bit bigger than a typical espresso). Seating is limited here. And because of that, when others grab a seat, it'll take forever for them to leave. There are a couple couches and four or so stools by the counter, so once you grab space, snatch it up. Otherwise, you'll be waiting endlessly! There's sitting inside with classic feel to it and also outdoor sitting which is secluded from outside. Coffee isn't bad, but it's not as good as having it in Chicago. This gorgeous coffee shop is in the lobby of the Highline Hotel and is not just for the hotel tenants but for all who crave caffeine perfection. I took my sister here today for a coffee break between our brunch and our shopping adventure. When you walk in it feels like the perfect back drop of a Wes Anderson film. There just a perfect mixture of taxidermy, art, vintage couches and plants. Part of me wants to nestle down on the couch and begin typing my novel. However, I normally settle with odering a slim latte to stay. Today was even better since, I found that they now sell a new Inteligentsia 12 oz travel mug. This mug could not have been beat. It's black with a gray lid. Double walled! Stainless Steel! And lid closure! Be still my heart! And only $17. They washed it for me and made my latte in it. My sister order a soothing tea. For some reason they forgot about my sister's tea. When we reminded them, the barista felt so bad, that she got a token for the next drink to be on the house and a delicious brownie too! Wow!
