On my recent visit to Portland, we were looking for a place that was open for sit down dining, during this weird pandemic. Interurban was just the place. Its pleasantly located on restaurant row and right behind the house we rented; which was a huge plus. The wait was not terrible, we were seated quickly in their back patio. The patio was nice outside, however I wish they would have cleaned up a bit more. The table was dusty and there were spider webs everywhere. Other than that, it was fine. We ordered their spicy margarita, they were delicious! I must admit, we ordered 4 rounds of them =). I ordered their steak frites and everyone else ordered their Interurban Burgers. Everyone including myself was happy with our meal. Next time I am in Portland, Interurban will be one of our options. read more

My friends chose this restaurant after looking up the menu and seeing there was something for everyone in our group but especially for me. "Portland's Finest Corn Dog" according to menu. I would actually rate it one of the worst corn dogs I ever tried to eat. The first one was served with the inside gushing out because only the outside of the batter was cooked. The next was almost blackened on the outside and smelled and tasted burnt. The hot dog itself was soggy and not very flavorful. I will say the cabbage citrus salad was very good and my girlfriend enjoyed the mushroom ramen. Also the cocktails were on point. Dump the corn dog from the menu...it sucks. read more

Interurban was recommended to us from a manager at a bar not far from here. She told us a few items we HAD to try and we trusted her judgement, I'm so glad we did. We sat upstairs in a quiet, candle lit room with just a few tables. It was an intimate setting which is just what we were looking for. The entire building is full of unique portland charm and the food was fantastic. We were brave in taking the recommendation for bone marrow, an item neither of us had ever tried (or really wanted to for that matter). I have to saw it was amazing and I would defiantly have it again! We also had the grilled butchers stead which was delicious. We enjoyed a few craft cocktails none of which disappointed. They have a broad list of whiskeys to choose from. Prices are reasonable and the quality well exceeds the cost. Overall this was a memorable dining experience and we will visit again. read more

I'm a fan of this cozy bar. Interurban has a pretty good food menu too! On my most recent visit with a girlfriend, we sat at the bar, where we were promptly greeted by a friendly bartender. We both got cocktails. Mine had gin and egg white (yum) while my friend got something with rum and amaro. Both drinks were deliciously well crafted and strong. We also ordered a dessert - the pumpkin creme caramel. Wow. It was so smooth, rich and creamy. A lot of places have trouble with flan type desserts and over cooking them, but Interurban's crew know what they are doing! I'd come back here to try more food and cocktails. My friend Steve brought Karrie and I here for brunch before we flew out, and it was SO good. Nice little neighborhood joint, we didn't really know too much about the place before we came, but we had some great drinks and food. First off - their Bloody Mary is seriously one of the best I have ever had in my life. It is spicy as hell, and just made perfectly, with all sorts of crap in it. If you like Bloodies, do not miss this. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with sausage (awesome), a small French toast with the blueberry compote (we all mauled this like starving people), the rabbit hash (probably the best thing we ordered. I had a stressful experience here. 2/29/20 8:30 pm seated upstairs. Nothing on the menu jumped out to me so I asked the server if there were any good non-alcoholic options. They responded that you can get "mock-tails". Since those were not listed on the menu I asked what was available; their response was that the bartender can make whatever they f*****g want. I habitually ask servers for recommendations because, I trust their knowledge is better than mine and they will provide advice regarding my interests. This helps at most places but, here, I was spoken down to. If you drink alcohol you might like this place; my friend said his drink was good. For me, there are other places on Mississippi that list their N/A options and/or have friendly, knowledgeable servers. 1 star because that's required.. and, the good alcohol. I would have preferred to give 0; I want to never come back here. read more

Date night at Interurban was lovely. It's a smaller, more intimate spot though they have a fairly sizable patio with fireplace. My partner and I sat at the bar as they were fairly packed when we arrived. The bar tender was attentive and I enjoyed watching them make drinks as they clearly have some skills. We ordered a grip of food which included: oysters, bone marrow, fish & chips & the "No shame Thanksgiving sandwich" which was one of the specials. Everything was amazing! My sandwich was huge, but so good I had a hard time finishing it. I finally conceded and happily ate the leftovers the next morning. The place seems fairly unassuming, but don't let that fool you. I dined here with my college cross country team while in Portland for our Nationals meet. Our head coach picked this restaurant because it was highly recommended and also seemed like a very good offering of the type of higher-end fare of the Pacific Northwest which the region has become known for in recent decades. Interurban has a strong focus on rustic yet "new American" takes on game and other staples of this region. That being said, we ordered several starters to sample this type of cuisine. My criticism with all of them was they really provided a very scant amount of food--you'd not expect a whole lot, no, but it was downright paltry, especially the plate that included several cheeses. There simply was not enough cheese at all. The pâté plate was better, but still very meager servings even for this type of place. That much said, the pâté included was very tasty and flavorful. Several of us, myself included, ordered a rabbit and pasta dish for our main course and it was delicious. As we were on a team outing, no alcohol was ordered but the selection of whiskey from the region and beyond--including traditional Kentucky Bourbons--was very impressive. We sat out on the rear porch with the fire pits and even with the fires going, this proved rather chilly for the weather--and damp, cold, November weather here is not uncommon so I question how wise the outdoor seating is, really. Perhaps in the spring and summer months its quite nice, though. The whole interior and theme is one of a rustic lodge which both suites the cuisine very well and also seems decently authentic and not too trendy nor put-upon. The waitstaff was very astute in dealing with our large party in the back despite a busy night throughout the whole restaurant so I commend them on that. Would I return? Probably. I think the restaurant is meeting its own goals for the type of food and experience they wish to purvey so four stars on that and for food which overall was very novel and tasty. After being immediately forgotten (no, really, I went inside to order after 20 minutes and the guy said "oh, I forgot about you") , I was comped the cheapest thing I ordered, which wasn't the sugary old fashioned in a smaller glass than normal, but the state fair style fries. My partner and I dropped by for dinner on a Monday and the place was definitely busy. We sat at the bar which was staffed by a fun bartender named Nick. We ordered drinks and food. Nick realized before we did that our food order hadn't reached the kitchen and was upfront about the mistake. It was maybe a 15-20 min delay in our food, no big deal as we were sipping our wine and chatting... but I was totally blown away by how hard Nick worked to make it right with us and to keep us comfortable. Ate dinner on the back patio. This review is based on my experience with the crab and cod cakes entree, and my date's braised beef with taquito. The crab cakes taste pretty good. The problem is that you get two small cakes with a small side salad. For eighteen dollars. The plate it comes on is 2/3 empty. I ate my "dinner" in about three minutes. My date's plate was slightly more filled, she ate in five minutes. Left hungry and drove home to eat again. I'm about 145 lbs with an average to small appetite. Can't imagine how much a large guy would need to spend here for an actual meal. I emailed the restaurant but received no response. Review is thus: food is good, but you should plan an appetizer and two entrees per person if you want an actual meal. read more

Walking up to this place, I was like meh, this place looks like a small, boring bar, but it came recommended by a trustworthy source, so we went in for dinner. To my surprise there was a beautiful patio out back. We sat on the patio and I did not get a drink here because I was still feeling good from my Wild at Heart from the Psychic Bar. But the food was terrific. Had the Peaches and Beans, Elote and Smoked Trout sandwich. Peaches were perfectly ripe, green beans were perfectly cooked, not mushy and not raw, and had some ham in it. Elote was on the cob, not shaved off, and super tasty. Trout had reddish orange flesh, a nice surprise. I've been here a few times for brunch, happy hour and drinks. It's a cool neighborhood spot in an updated old building. As far as brunch goes, some local pub recently had Interurban on a list of best brunches in PDX without a wait. It is great that you're able to walk in and get a table most weekend mornings without putting your name on a long list. As for the food, it's a very good, but not great spot. The brunch menu has some unique offerings on it. The Cowboy Ranchero and Campfire Skillet are really tasty. Their common use of boar sausage is different, but not really my thing - little too gamey. The food has always come out hot and fresh. The only things holding me back from a 5-Star rating are the portion sizes - too small, and the liberal use of potatoes to fill the plates. Also, where they're on the menu, it says 'crispy potatoes,' but most dishes they're served with are salt-boiled/roasted and not really crispy at all. Just used as too much filler. The menu isn't huge, and though I'm not a vegetarian, I'd appreciate a couple more veg options for when I want to eat healthier. Drinks are tasty and it's a nice late night hang for a night cap. Service has always been friendly and I look forward to keeping it on the rotating list of go-tos in the neighborhood. read more

I can get over pretensions and bad service when a place serves late into the night and especially if they have good food, but inter-urban is trash. I didn't review it after our first encounter and gave them a second chance, but after an incredibly long wait when they weren't all that busy and extremely condescending service, we were served food that was utter trash. This is one of the worst Portland establishments I've been to. I wish I had read the reviews more carefully. This is really a 3.5 star review but the stars don't let you do 1/2s. We wanted to try a meeting place on a Friday night. We got delivery which we never do. We ordered a few things from the menu: grits, house made chips, crabbie cakes, Caesar salad, Mac and cheese and chicken strips with side fries. While the restaurant has absolutely nothing to do with what temperature the food shows up by delivery, it kinda impacts the experience of the meal when everything is so far off what it should be. Heating up the grits didn't help improve the flavor. The Caesar salad had whole anchovies so warning for those that don't like the flavor. The salad was so salty that I couldn't finish it. The crab cake had a good flavor and solid consistency and the side salad that came with it was an excellent combo of lettuce and pickled veggies. The Mac and cheese was really a pasta dish more so than Mac and cheese. It was pretty bland. Overall, average meal. Would like to try them back for brunch (in the restaurant though) not take out. read more

What better way to spend an uncharacteristic Snow Day than with boar & steelhead trout! My partner and I suited up to find some supplies, due to most of Portland being shut down for the Snowpocalypse. Mercifully, Interurban was open, letting us thaw out in style on their cozy second floor, enjoying some late night eats and vibes. I had the Interurban Boar Burger, and my partner had the Steelhead Trout with smoked Yukon gold potatoes, fried leeks, and pearl onions. The Interurban Boar Burger was TO DIE FOR! Homemade aioli, slathered tastefully on a pub bun, grilled to perfection. The fried onions are a nice touch, like having super gourmet onion rings on your burger, while the queso botanero and pickled jalapenos offered the perfect blend of spicy and sweet to offset the savoriness of the boar patty. My partner's Steelhead Trout was fresh-as-fresh-can-be, seemingly sourced that day. You could imagine this beautiful fish frollicking in a majestic mountain stream, just a few hours before ending up on our table! The Trout was marinated to perfection, complemented with buttery, lemony herbs to bring out the fishiness and accentuate the flavor, rather than trying to mask it or drown it out. THIS is what fresh, local ingredients are all about! Tasty, ethical, environmentally-conscious and supporting of the local economy - all the things that make someplace like Interurban so great! My partner and I go over to Interurban for their late night happy hour relatively regularly. We live and die for their back patio, where you can find people huddling around open campfires, on even the most wretched of evenings. Have had all manner of random, interesting encounters, meeting all kinds of cool folks over the fire pits, as well as having dozens of intimate, hushed conversations over cocktails and cigarettes. This was my second time eating at Interurban, after having taken my good friend there for his birthday. I think this second time was even better than the first! Came in on a Friday night for a late night meal. They were relatively busy that night by we were lucky enough to snag a table because a party just left. I ordered the interurban boat burger. The burger was cooked really well. The boar wasn't gamey and was super juicy. The burger comes with chiles, fried onions, cheese, an aioli with jalapeño pickles on the side. You can eat the pickles however you want but I placed them into my burger because why not?! The pickles weren't too spicy so don't be afraid to put them in! The fried onions gave the burger a nice crunch factor. Everything about the burger was super solid and if I lived in the area I think interurban would be one of my go to spots. Getting a table for 5+ peeps for Sunday brunch can be a challenge. Short of having less friends (I personally put the "bruh" in "brunch, so not an option for me), it allows us to get creative and find delicious foods just under the ever-so-heralded Radar (eh...eh?). Luckily, the kind server at Radar revealed another brunch location often overlooked by the masses: Urban. I guess the cool kids don't call it by its full name. We got immediate seating at 11am in the lovely back patio area. It was a brisk day outside, but the two fire pits surrounding our table made a cozier atmosphere. The food was fantastic also; I had the Eggs Benedict with trout + crab cakes and english muffin. We also shared a salted caramel french toast...which felt decadently light and fluffy. Nom. There's also other protein options such as chicken, boar, and pork chili, if eggs ain't yo thang. Like Expatriate, Interurban is one of those not-redonkulously-busy brunch places where the drink menu is just as eclectic as the food. Since I'm allergic, I explained to the bartender what I like about a drink- floral, citrus, fresh, light, not sugary, vodka. He did an amazing job creating a drink for me! We went here on a stormy Sunday and had unlimited drip coffee, orange juice, smoked trout Benedict, the steak and eggs dish, a half order of the biscuits and gravy (that gravy though) and the lemon poppyseed pancakes (very thick, sorta dry and not enough lemon curd for my taste, but would I eat them again-yes). The interior is cozy and gorgeous with dark wood interior. They could definitely benefit from removing the booth seating upstairs (allowing more parties to share some of that beautiful natural light flooding through the windows) and replacing with several two tops and a few four tops.
