To be brutally honest this pizza did not hit the spot. When we got in the car after picking up our food the garlic bread was the first thing we tried and instantly we knew this wasn't going to be the greatest. It was wayyy to sweet and tasted artificial... the pizza was eh, but we've had much better. Whenever I walk by Iolis, and its twice a week, someone is either going in or out of there without a mask. This endangers everyone. I don't order pizza anymore because I don't feel they are taking safety very serious and that would include how they prepare and handle the food. read more

All I can say is WOW. Best Italian food in California. Pizza crust was perfect and the calzone was stuffed excellently. No too much or too little of any ingredient. We've been to Carmel area so many times and never tried this place. Tucked into a small shopping center in Carmel Valley is this diamond in the rough. We ate two different dinners there while on our week long holiday. The thin crust pizza was fantastic with perfect amount of sauce, toppings, and cheese. My husband ordered Lasagne and minestrone soup the second night and it was also delicious and came with a lovely ceasar salad with very fresh and crisp lettuce. The prices were very reasonable for what you get here. The service was friendly and prompt for our take out order. I would highly recommend this place for pizza or pasta in the Carmel Valley. They did have some seating outside if you wanted to eat your to go dinner there. read more

I very rarely write reviews, but after our experience here I'm hoping the restaurant will take note and aim to do better. Having worked in restaurants before, I can sympathize with an understaffed team on a busy night. However, in those situations you must show your customers that you at least care about them! We came here hoping for a fun night with my little brothers, sister, and dad. We just ordered a medium pepperoni, that's it. 40 minutes passed and we'd received no service, no pizza, no check-ins. I went up to the counter to ask about it, and the waiter seemed unconcerned. If our order had been complicated I would understand, but it doesn't take 40+ minutes to prepare a medium pepperoni pizza without explanation! My brothers are young, we couldn't wait for nearly an hour without any food - so we left without being served. My brothers review this place as "Stupid and horrible." I just hope they staff their Friday nights better in the future! read more

Good pizza and I don't even like pizza that much. It had thin crust the way that I like it. We were here for a wedding rehearsal lunch and the staff was great. They made sure everyone had a full drink. And the owner even gave me a free bottle of one of the hot sauces that they had that I loved. Just moved to the area and found this awesome pizzeria! I am originally from New York so I am picky when it comes to pizza. The pizza was thinner crust and cooked perfectly, we got the Grand Concourse pizza (definitely recommend). We also got the Italian salad to start which was fresh and crisp. Besides the foods, the service really brought the place to the next level in our opinion. The staff was only made up of 3 workers and were taking carry out orders by phone/bring it out, tending bar and waiting on tables. They were amazing, so kind and attentive! This will be our only pizza place from now on! I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!! read more

I was truly astonished at just how good Iolis' pizza was. I admit to assuming that Carmel Valley natives where inflating the reviews because it was local, but I was wrong and that's a good thing. I can now agree that this is the best pizza on the peninsula, and hope that others will start making the short drive into the valley to try it. The restaurant is small and unassuming. A few tables outside (Dog Friendly or course, it is Carmel) and a few inside. Pick up and menu and ordered at the bar, and they brought everything outside to us. Outside we relaxed in the warm setting sun and gentle breeze. There is something to be said for the relaxed atmosphere you get in the valley. Three things make this pizza so damn good. First the crust is very well executed. Very thin, with a cracker crunch and good flavor. Second the sauce, it may start from a can but they obviously add to it and it has great flavor and just a little kick. Third are the toppings, all quality and in just enough quantity. So plan the trip out into Carmel Valley and try this place! read more

What a disappointment! We were looking for a casual pizza place after hiking most of the day at Point Lobos. This is about 7 or 8 mile drive off of the main highway, so not exactly convenient to the day-tripper. The server made multiple errors with our orders. It wasn't really busy when we arrived, and it would not have been any trouble for an experienced waitperson. When she delivered the food, in two runs, she neglected one of our children's food order, as well as one of the pizzas we ordered. We had to call her back , and the look on her face when she realized she had not even written down the "big slice, plain". Did she not notice that there was one person without food? The pizza itself was okay, nothing special. Wine was mediocre. Salad was the best of everything we ordered. Perhaps this was an off day for them, but we'll never know, as I'd never go back, even if I lived nearby. read more

Pizza: Amazing. This is Carmel Valley pizza. Go elsewhere if you want gourmet, like broccoli, spinach, or carmelized onions on your pizza. This place has the classics. From a classic combo, The Bronx, with sausage, pepperoni, onions, and olives, to the Margherita, with sliced tomatoes and fresh FRESH basil on top, this is a place to get good classic pizza. Not to mention they have linguisa as a topping, it can't get any better. But they do have unique pizzas as well: whether it's the Chicken Club, which is literally like a salad on top of a pizza with fresh avocados, lettuce, and tomoatoes, or the Thai Chicken with oriental sauce, carrots, bean sprouts, and cashews, you can get your gourmet fix here, just with a Carmel Valley spin. Service: Where do I start? The owner is a wonderful woman who makes you feel like youre a regular, even if your not. The consistant regulars at the bar can vouch for that, because that is how they started there. The waitresses are attentive, fun, and genuinely nice and efficient at their jobs. And the cooks in the back work their butts off. They masterfully create pizzas, pastas (which are amazing as well), calzones, and salads in a jiffy. And who could forget the cheesy garlic bread? It's a hidden gem in Carmel Valley, and I suggest everyone must try it once. Pizzaiolo = pizzamaker. Pizzaioli = pizzamaker, plural. Iolis = tasty, unique pizzas and more. I've had leftover Iolis many times. Mainly the thai pizza and bbq chicken pizza. I'd been convinced that I had to go meet the owners and see the tiny restaurant, but never had the chance until yesterday. You'll notice that the day before today's review was St. Patrick's Day. Ah yes, our American "wear green, eat corned beef and cabbage, and drink bad green beer" festival. Instead of partaking in fake traditions, we opted to head over to Iolis, after catching wind that they'd offer a twist on the holiday: Corned beef and cabbage pizza. Yeah, you read right. Only someone that's tried their amazing pizza before might take up that offer. And it was worth it - base of mustard, plenty of cheese, some tomato, and yes, corned beef and cabbage. Gobbled it up - and wanted more. After talking a bit with the husband-owner (guy's got a really great heavy Scot accent), we learned that this is a Iolis tradition - to celebrate holidays with oddball creations - with even the occasional off-the-menu special thrown in, such as a seafood pizza. I joked about Thanksgiving - his reply: "It's been done." Yes, they make turkey/cranberry/stuffing calzones once-a-year. Outstanding. But don't let the above throw you off: You have all the standard pizzas available as well. I've only had a few combinations - and previous reviews don't rate the sandwiches well. But in my experience, for a great pizza - you can only win here. As for the ambiance - I'd only met one half of the owners; he obviously loves his work and customers, and I've heard the same of his wife. The place is somewhat small, so maybe expect a short wait if you want to sit down on a weekend night (inside or out). Or, sit at the pizza bar and have a huge slice for a short visit. I'd give it a 3.5. Affordable place in a mecca of overpriced food and commodities, which is appreciated, especially after dropping way too much money this weekend. BUT, with that said the food is okay and their pizza was a solid "meh." I left stuffed, but rather nauseated. Didn't find the food to be worth all the 5-star reviews. The service though was great and friendly! We spent a while chatting with one of the workers there and he made the experience great. Didn't feel rushed to leave even though it was past closing, and the boyfriend and I had fun writing on the paper-covered tablecloths and playing hangmen. They also gave us a nice slice of cake because it was my boyfriend's birthday. I wouldn't come here for the food, but it was worth it to escape the pretentious upper-class vibe that seems to permeate Carmel Valley and eat a big meal without burning a hole in your pocket. read more

Wow! A friend told me that Ioli's has the best pizza on the Monterey Peninsula -- and he was right! Great thin-crust pizza, good and innovative toppings. The slices for under $4 are HUGE, as is the large pie -- 24 inches across. I had a slice of margherita, done to perfection. My son devoured his Hawaiian slice, and we took home a half-Hawaiian, half-Grundy (chicken, garlic, onions, mushrooms and cashews) -- yummy! Super-friendly and helpful staff, local beers on tap, Very reasonable prices, indoor and outdoor dining. I hope they expand to another location near downtown Monterey. Otherwise, it's well worth a drive. Lunch deal of slice, salad and soda for $7.50. All pizzas, even the largest, come in with reasonable prices. I will be back. read more

Two stars for value and quality plus ambiance. A large 24" pizza with 4 toppings was $31... The menu stated thin crust upon request . The crust could not have been any thinner as it was. The vegetables ( mushroom, peppers and onions ) were sliced razor thin and microscopic and the black olives must be stored in water and lacked all flavor. All in all, a giant sized overpriced bland pizza. The back room is bizarrely arranged and feels strange and claustrophobic with bad lighting. The server guy was very nice and efficient. read more

(9-5-21) Walking in just because it was convenient and close to the hotel, but little did I know that I was going to be greeted and helped by some of the nicest people in Carmel. The very nice lady in front was answering back to back phone calls for Togo orders meanwhile taking our group of four orders all while keeping an upbeat attitude and a smile on her face. The food came out fast from the cooks in the back who hand delivered our orders to our outdoor table (also with a friendly attitude and smile). The food was delicious, a good price and in a timely manner. Highly recommend coming here for the sake of convenience and for the pure hospitality of these hardworking people. Very small place that can feel pretty crowded. Service was friendly but barely passable (due to the crowd and understaffing). But the food more than makes up for any small annoyances. They have a special of any medium sized pizza, Ceasar or Italian salad, and garlic bread for about $27. The medium pizza (16" for a wheat crust) is pretty darn large for just 2 people, especially if you have the salad and bread. Next time I think we'll get a small, or perhaps a 14" gluten-free might be a good compromise. Delicious food! read more
