Jeff knows everything about Mini Coopers, even the older models, and sometimes they do weird things that the dealership would charge you an arm and a leg for to fix. Thankfully, Jeff is nothing like the Mini dealership. He's honest, thorough, and if he knows something is a quick fix, he'll just do it for free, or for a discounted price, especially if you are a loyal repeat customer. I brought my car in to get an estimate for a body work repair. I was given a number of options as I was paying for this personally (not via insurance). I opted for the cheaper option and was warned about blending paint color with other panels. I picked up the car 4 days later, which was the timescale originally promised. The car was completed on time and the work was flawless, color matching was perfect. Amazing job and I would highly recommend IQ Auto! Had to sell my red 2001 camaro at a great loss due to the dog crap work done by this repair shop, due to the car showing zero oil pressure and the car ridding like shit . After I qless rebuilt my engine 2 times. Yes 2 times first time the engine felt really good seemed almost broken in already, 1 week later something gives and now it's making a crazy engine noise, take it back and a lifter has sheered off and sent metal bits into engine, my opinion is that they tried cutting costs by using my old part from original bad engine, just my opinion. So now Jeff tells me in a smart ass voice, lucky you get a new engine, lucky my ass . So he tells me that the machine shot shop will repair the damage or pay for it.( not my problem or concern). 2 engine car get delivered missing parts and screws that barley hand tight and a total mess with crap stuck to engine not clean by any means. Take the car home but smell burning oil ,a new rebuild so some burn off should be acceptable. Then the engine reads 0 oil pressure. So back it goes to fix leaks and pressure issue.. I guess they changed some seal had it lifted running for 45 min and no leaks. So they say we'll on freeway the burning smell back ,so the leak only happens under load. Not sitting on a lift in park. And still showing no oil pressure. So I said screw you iq auto , and left a few reviews of my less than expected experience. A year goes by and Jeff calls me saying that business is hurting and he thinks my reviews are to blame and he wanted to try and fix the problems in return for me removing the reviews I posted , so I gave him that opportunity and after all that the car still has no oil pressure and the car wouldn't pass smog due to the on and off check engine light. So it just sits and sits until I sell on Craigslist for dirt cheap . That's what is pissing me off to this day. Be careful using this shop for any major engine repairs, and let it be know that as soon as your car gets there they got you. My car they removed my engine and if I wanted to take the car some place else I needed to pay them 500$ unless they performed the work needed. FYI this was not my choice for repair shop the tow truck driver dad talked the shop I was heading to and that iq auto was the best thing since sliced bread . Let me just start with saying that it is refreshing to finally find a mechanic that breaks the stereotype in auto repair shops. For me, after yet another unpleasant experience of being talked down to as a woman about the necessary repairs to my truck, I was referred to Jeff and IQ Autoworks. Just wanted to thank John, the Mechanic who worked on my vehicle & to Jeff who was more than helpful in which is hard to find these days. They got my 2000 Durango 4x4 up and running due to mis-fires, stuck thermostat and a inoperable blower fan. My Durango now runs like it was new. I now have heat (though I wish it was more but better than before) and A/C and all 4 speeds from the blower. His staff, not so much. Lifted my classic car up and dented the rear floor pan with the lift. Glad they figured it out before they went through the floor. Installed inferior parts as they couldn't get a hold of the brand ones. He personally test drove the car and greased the carpet, door panels and floor mat. Serious disrespect. Biggest issue was mis-information on whether his guys checked a part or not. He said yes with hesitation. It was indeed bad. Went to another shop and had the inferior parts replaced along with the part he said they checked and was fine...... it wasn't. Won't be back, don't recommend. read more

For living out in the Bay Area for the past 5 years moving to Daly City to alameda to San Jose, I've never found a go to shop. After having my car misfire a couple of times I came across this place and I think I FINALLY found a place to always go to. I had a day off with my car engine light flashing and I seen this place had great reviews so I ended up giving them a call. Luckily they weren't too swamped and I was able to bring my car in the same day. Jeff who I believe is the main mechanic or possibly the owner, helped me out after I told him my situation, I ended up leaving it with him for the day. After he figured out what was wrong, he did me a solid and didn't end up charging me for a service that my previous mechanic messed up on. Got my car towed here form an accident a year ago. Didn't have collision insurance. They quoted me $5k for a new front subframe, wheel respite, two new tires and some repaint in the right side rocker, rear quarter panel,etc. It took them three-four days to give me the quote, and told me if I don't want business here I have to pay the "storage fee" which is around $200 per day starting from the first day the car was towed here. With a $1000 pre charged, I had no choice but to do business with them. It took them another three weeks to fix the car, with another additional $2000 added to the bill coz they claimed that they found other issues. Upon arrival, they told me they did three test drives and the car drives fine, i realized the new tires they ordered didn't match with my old ones - they ordered the cheap Michelin A/S tires and my tires are proper Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Not just that, they didn't listened to my request to put the two new tires on the rear wheels, instead, they put the to new tires on one side on the car. And that's not the end, the second day I found out that the rock shield behind my front right wheel had zero push pins in it. They took them out to remove the front bumper, but forgot to put them back. As a result, the plastic shield was hanging and rubbing the tire, and eventually wore out, leaving the components in the front bumper visible and unprotected behind the wheel. You think that was it? The car was pulling heavily to the right, which indicates that they never performance an alignment, or they didn't even change the subframe and charged me for it. This is a untrustworthy business and don't ever go there. If you did, make sure to bring another technician to fully inspect your car before payment. read more

This review is long overdue. 2 years ago I purchased a used Jeep Wrangler that had been modified and I was also looking for a new mechanic at that time since my previous mechanic for over 10 years sold his business. I knew when I bought the Jeep that I'd have to spend a few grand to fix it and upgrade it the way I wanted it. After about 4 months I had no idea how bad the issues were with the Jeep until I took it to Jeff. We discovered a bunch of issues with the biggest issue being the rebuilt engine was not re-built properly. When Jeff and his team inspected my car they gave me a detailed list of what needed to be fixed from bumper to bumper with explanations of what the repairs would be. This review could easily be a page long with all the issues we ran into with bad parts NEW parts being delivered and a bunch of other issues along the way trying to fix my Jeep. Jeff and his team were FANTASTIC and stood by their work without charging me more. They were committed to fixing my car 100%. I will be taking all my family's cars to him in the future. Jeff is upfront, won't upsell you on anything and is a straight shooter. Don't try to take advantage of his honestly since I know there are probably customers that will complain and expect all kinds of special treatment and are primadonnas since they are "paying customers". Honestly I Found this shop by accident while looking in YELP for a diesel mechanic. I know there aren't to many shops in the bay area that works on Diesel engines. So I took a chance called and asked if they work on diesel trucks or know of anyone that does. Not sure who I talked with but he said yes we work on them all the time, then he handed the phone to Jeff who at first I didn't know till later that he was the owner. After a few minutes of rambling on the phone with the issue I was having, he said bring it in and we can fix it. So the following Monday, dropped off my truck and told Jeff that a well know shop in the San Jose area and a mobile mechanic were the only ones that ever tried to fix or resolve the issues. 1) they want $200 to see what's wrong with your car but do not expect any kind of explanation other then what they want to do and the extremely high price they want to charge you. ($200 per hour) They told me this as the tow truck is conveniently pulling out of the lot. l They won't give you any kind of diagnostic review. I asked for one and instead they sent me a private email between them and someone trying to sue them. Oops! 2) customer service is terrible and rude af. 3) I had a bad transmission which I get... but there were other codes I saw. After several emails they finally sent me a grainy picture of their computer screen with 3 codes. One of them specifically tells you that there are other codes possible that need a deep dive code scan needs to be done. Obviously not done. They didn't even mention what was wrong or how they would fix the engine. Answer I got was "new transmission$4500 please. " that's it. Repeated and then Repeated with no explanation of any kind. Then while I'm working he calls me three times in a minute followed by a text that's "answer your phone." I'm not your girlfriend guy. I'll answer my phone or call you back when I have time! They didn't charge me the $200 for the diagnostic because well they were just too lazy to do a real one and most likely didn't want to deal with me because I actually asked questions and didn't just take his word before forking over 5G. His ego is written all over his face. Take it to oreilleys and get a full one for free. I took my car to another specialist in business for 30 years and got the tranny and engine done for less then half of what this place was asking. Skip this place. read more

I brought my 63 Nova convertible to get a new exhaust and muffler installed. Jeff was able to fit me into his books to have the work done before the GoodGuys car show. Everything turned out great; however, my car has air suspension and the pipe was just a bit low. I'm giving this shop 5 stars for 2 reasons, 1) Jeff followed up and asked happy I was with the work, and 2) when I told him about my air suspension issue, without hesitation, he asked me to bring it in to get it adjusted. They do good work, but their customer service is terrible! When I took one of our cars in recently, I asked for a quote, but never heard back from them. They didn't even phone to let us know the work had been done - we had to phone them! The most recent example of their poor customer service happened just this last week. I phoned to see about bringing another of our cars in and left a message asking them to phone me back and let me know if I could bring it in. I'm still waiting for a call back. As far as I'm concerned, these people are ignorant and obviously don't care whether they keep us as customers or not. I've come into IQ Autoworks 3 times 1) To get a stripped bolt out of a Miata hardtop, prompt service and good price. 2) Collision repair replacing control arm and fixing suspension on an RSX, car felt great afterwards, drove straight. Also fixed the issue of my wiper blades not working(replaced old wiper signal by steering wheel). Service was prompt, no frills. On alignment my steering wheel wasn't centered so I went back and they centered it no extra fee. 3) Replacing a worn out control arm(other side), knock sensor and alignment to fix an issue where one front wheel was sticking out more than the other. Control arm replacement and knock sensor replacement service was great. Disclaimer: IQ Autoworks outsources their alignment to another place, does not do it in house. IQ Autoworks member explained to me that alignment is just adjusted based on degree values, visual differences in camber aren't taken into consideration in the alignment process. Alignment came back a little odd, positive camber on driver side, straight on the passenger side, drives straight. However I am concerned about uneven tire wear due to uneven camber. Upon re-doing my lug nuts at home(I always try to be safe) I noticed my lugs were extremely tight(100ftlbs in front, 50~60ish in the rear) with one of my rear left driver lug nut basically loose and the rest very easy to unscrew. My oem lug torque spec is 80ftlbs(2002 RSX). I felt this was very unsafe, and I could have lost one of my lug nuts during a drive(imported and would require buying a completely new set to replace). I noticed that one of my spoke decals(SSR oem decal) was also scratched off on the rear passenger side. My wheels were basically brand new and I am extremely disappointed, hard to find a replacement. Steering wheel was way off center, imagine 8oclock and 2oclock positions for horizontal level. All in all extremely unsatisfied with the alignment specs, steering wheel level, and attention to detail/safety to my wheels as it seemed like a half-assed rush job. I'm relieved they weren't scratched at least, I did mention these issues in person and IQ Autoworks said I could bring it back for adjustment but at this point I'd rather let another shop do the alignment. Overall I would recommend them for regular car maintenance with no frills and quick turn around time but would definitely not recommend them for alignment services, my steering wheel was off center both times I've gone and it is a pain in the ass to drop off/pick up the car every time(ubering is $). Update: I've gone to another performance shop for a proper alignment and they noted that my toe and camber were all over the place. After getting my alignment re-done the difference is night and day, the car was leaning left before but my turns feel super smooth and my car drives straight now. Best of all the other shop set my steering wheel straight without my having to mention it! read more

This review is long overdue, but here it goes... I came to IQ Autoworks earlier in the year to get all four brakes done on my Elantra. Before coming to this place (or even getting a quote), I shopped around (Campbell, SJ, Milpitas, Santa Clara, etc.) and out of all the shops, this place had a price that fit my budget. Furthermore, it had all the great Yelp reviews to back it up. Ultimately, these two factors made my decision easy. What pleased me the most was that the shop owner educated me and informed me that I could just change the brake pads without having to replace the rotors, which saved me money. All the other shops I got quotes from said that I had to and didn't inform me why. In all, IQ was very informative, honest, did not push me in any way, and gave me options. Okay, Jeff and his guys are the real deal. They are competent, straight up about what's needed to repair your vehicle, and fair in pricing their work. In my case, a tow truck drive recommended IQ when my newly acquired, used 2008 Ford 350 Crew Cab long bed diesel died on the road, but since I had gone to another shop in the past, I had it towed there. Turns out they didn't have the knowledge or equipment to service this big a diesel vehicle, which I've found is a common issue with most repair shops, so remembering the tow truck driver's recommendation, had it re-towed to IQ . Jeff and team determined that all of the smog parts had been deleted, had been straight-piped, but just before I bought it the seller had put the original exhaust parts back on, backing up the system and blowing a turbo. Man, this was bad. IQ had the big lift required to pull the entire cab off, tear the engine down, replace all of the deleted parts, and get it running strong. If I hadn't gotten the IQ recommendation, and had to go to Ford for this work, I can honestly say there's no way I could have afforded to keep this truck. I've now started to love driving the truck again even if it did cost me more in the end. Thanks Jeff! read more
