    Curry Chicken Lunch

All I did was casually stop by prior to work to pick up some food on the go. I actually didnt even try it until several hours later and DANG THIS FOOD WAS BANGIN'. So worth the price (I believe it was around $8-$10) and it seemed to be family-owned and operated. There's inside seating and its made to order so once you pay, you may need to wait for about 5-10mins to receive your food. It was interesting to see people from all different cultures patiently waiting for their food. It has a very homey feel to it. Like "yeah, just grab the water from the fridge" type of place. I loved every bit of it.

Very small counter service Jamaican restaurant. They have 3 two top tables and two four top tables. I was dining in and only two tables were occupied, both were two tops and it was lunchtime Tuesday. There were several "to-go" orders and I got the impression that "to-go" is the norm. Everything is ordered at the counter and then you are called up to get the order. Lunch specials come with a drink and everything is served in styrofoam containers, both food and drink. My order was the Jerk Chicken special. This was a skin-on thigh and leg, both halved, with jerk seasoning. The jerk seasoning was a dry rub followed by a jerk wet sauce. RIce, peas, cabbage and a small fried plantain were the sides. The heat level and flavor of the chicken was very good. My only issue is that the leg and thigh were smaller, so the bone to meat ratio was heavily bone to less meat. The rice was a kind of dirty rice, probably some black bean involved, though I saw no black beans, but flavorful. The cabbage was marinated and I tasted what seemed to be a hint of coconut flavor, but also this was good. I'm unsure where the peas were in the dish, but they were supposed to be involved. The portion size was decent. I chose the tropical lemonade option, which was sweet and sort of papaya flavored, but also good. The interior is seriously sparse. Several 8x10 framed photos of Jamaican athletes or celebrities or cultural figures were on the walls, but it was a low-budget attempt to have something representative on the wall. I would return here since the flavors were very good, but probably will do as the majority of the lunch crowd I witnessed and order "to-go."

The service there was great from start to finish! The food is amazing. The sauce that goes on the jerk chicken is great! Can't go wrong with a tropical lemonade too! Trust me, you'll leave wanting more

Starters Appetizers: Cornbread and Collard Greens with Smoked Turkey…read more Collard Greens: Holds the flavours of smoky notes from the turkey, undertones of peppers with a mild to moderate heat, which was very pleasant to the palate. The leaves of the Collard Greens were very tender and flavourful. Cornbread: Served muffin style was mild in flavour and not sweet. Was a nice addition to the Collard Greens. (Pro tip: Personally, I would return for the Collard Greens alone. There is also a Vegan menu and a Soul Food Menu. The Collard Greens are 5 Star flawless. Service is efficient. The lounge is very casual. The artwork is beautiful, but some of it is hidden behind a table as noticed in my pictures. The ambience is small, but noticed there are several pickup third-party delivery drivers collecting takeout, as well as several customer pick up orders. So the food is very popular here even when there are not many dine-in customers. Next time I might order takeout as well just for the Collard Greens. Main Course: Ordered the "whitefish" fillet for the Seafood Platter (Tilapia Filet), but received a Pink Fish maybe Salmon or Red Snapper but looks sort of like a Salmon. Was not sure. Images provided. For this reason, the fish would be a 3 star. Overall, would I come back? Yes, for the Collard Greens, which I loved it was sheer perfection!

Our waiter was a superstar- in talking with him he shared he was from Ecuador and made suggestions for our lunch choice. We started with the beef and chicken empanadas- very good- and an order of maduros- ripe plantains. We should have stopped there because I was almost full at that point. For our entrees we chose shrimp mofongo- which we really see in small cities being that it is the national dish of Puerto Rico- and the paella for one. Both were wonderful. I would argue that the size of the paella should be be renamed as a lid of a trashcan serving. It was giant and we barely put a dent in it before asking for a to go box. I highly recommend this spot!

The only thing I'd change is using fresh-caught shrimp to give it more of that seaside flavor. The whole red snapper with coconut sauce was also full of flavor. We really enjoyed the mango and guava juices, and the tres leches dessert was amazing! Definitely a highlight of the meal. Other things we liked: the decor was nice, our waitress was a friendly young lady who made the experience pleasant, and the restroom was very clean. Overall, a solid spot for tasty Latin dishes and a comfortable atmosphere.
