I love this restaurant one of my favorites in Deming. First it's a family ran restaurant Irma's sister kids and maybe grand kids work there. The service is very good but always busy so your food may not come out as quick as you like but it's not fast food. Living in eastern United States I'm use to queso being melted creamy for dipping in chips. Here in New Mexico it's fondo style like string cheese with green Chile's a plus in my opinion. I've had queso at three different restaurants here and Irma's is the best. I've had 4 or 5 different items from menu and to me the best is a green Chile burrito with green chilies and cheese the best I've had. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. GREAT FOOD GREAT SERVICE FRIENDLY STAFF. My only complaint they do not have Splenda for their unsweetened tea. So I bring my own. read more

This is a hole in the wall with great food. I've ordered carne asada burritos two night in a row because the steak is cooked perfectly with great seasoning. It comes with some of the best Mexican Rice I've ever had. The complimentary chips and salsa are really good. The salsa has a predominantly fresh pico taste up front with peppers and the perfect level of heat for my palate. The green chili is very good. I had to do 4 vs. 5 stars only because they lack good beer which is important to me. Maybe get one or two local beers that aren't Pilsners on the menu and I would have given 5 stars. read more

Passing through town, we arrived at 8:35 to a bustling dining room, with several large groups following us in a few minutes later with a closing time of 9 PM. While this is clearly a locals favorite, we will never be back not the least of which was because of the food. I should state that we love love, love everything about New Mexican cuisine, having lived in New Mexico for almost a decade, and also making it at home quite frequently. First, we waited unacknowledged in the lobby for approximately 10 minutes before the couple in front of us stated that they were waiting for takeout, and that we should seat ourselves. Taking note of the sign in the lobby that instructs not to sit at dirty tables, we saw 4 clean empty tables and took a seat at one of them. After sitting at our table for approximately another 10 minutes without acknowledgment, I approached the cashier stand seeking menus as a waitress was walking away after checking out another couple leaving the restaurant. I politely stated that we had sat at a table, but that we hadn't received any service or menus yet, to which she very tersely, and abruptly responded "that's because you weren't supposed to see yourself, and we weren't ready for you." While I was taken aback at the blunt rudeness and lack of customer service, I apologized and said that it appeared we were to seat ourselves and that the couple in front of us had stated that we should. To which she just looked at me with a frown on her face, and said "no." Moving on, eventually, a drink order was taken and approximately 15 to 20 minutes later we received menus. I ordered the Chile rellanos plate, and my husband ordered the chicken enchiladas plate, Christmas. About the best thing I can say about this restaurant is that their chips and salsa are exceptional. My rellanos were slightly burned, and tasted very peculiar. The enchiladas were good and not great. While All the food was OK, the customer service was unacceptable which may be okay and accepted by your regulars, don't expect repeat business or recommendation from us. Hard pass! read more

Prior to starting the long drive back home we were hungry but not feeling that fast food taste so we found Irma's and thanks so to all the positive reviews we got some amazing food that tasted as close to home made as possible. I went with the red Chile chilaquiles with a scrambled egg, it came with a side of hash potatoes and beans. We always taste the beans first because that says a lot about the food and sure enough they had amazing flavor, piping hot. The Chile was spicy but not overwhelming and the egg was the perfect touch, combined with the crunchy fried perfection of the hash brown this made for a perfect breakfast. We also got burritos that's were a decent size but not as delicious as we had expected from the plates the relleno burrito was Plain and the Chile con carne burrito had huge chunks of meat that made it a bit difficult to eat comfortably but then that's a matter of preference so you might really like these! Overall it's a delicious, affordable place to stop and eat. read more

Great little Mexican restaurant in downtown. We all agreed it was the best Mexican we'd had in quite a while, particularly the beans. I had the Deluxe Mexican plate; I am a fan of Chile Rellenos, and this one was really good. The bean tostadas were a big hit, my wife's carnitas were wonderful, and the chicken chimi was excellent. The service was good with one exception: there was a mixup on one order where the waitress wrote down a different "number" than the dish described to her. Make sure you double check - they seem to place the order with the kitchen based on the menu number, not the name of the dish, so make sure that is right. The interior was a little noisy, which you might expect in a room with concrete block walls and hard floors, but the fight on the TV contributed to the din. Bottom line: we'd stop back in again in a heartbeat. They have a big menu, including seafood, and there was a ton of dishes I'd like to try. read more

Horrific. Huevos Rancheros ordered over medium, came over easy, real easy, egg whites soft, yolk cool, liquid, raw... Okay, whatever. Hash browns raw, green, uncooked. I requested some cooked hash browns, and got a little more white crunchy shredded raw potatoes, ever so slightly browned, but still not cooked. What part of hash BROWNS is hard? Raw potatoes are not good to eat. I send back raw potatoes, and get slightly less raw ones? Wrong answer. 10AM, restaurant is freezing inside. No fun. Had to get coat from car. Horrible coffee, for $3. Slammed three cups of it trying to warm up. The waiter did refill my coffee, which is the only thing that went right with that meal. Lame beans, terrible flavorless chili with zero heat, and a cheap cold flour tortilla. Small portion. Sad, really. A miserable dining experience in every way. The waiter attempted to charge me full price at the end of the ordeal. I mentioned that the eggs were raw, along with the hash browns. He shrugged, stared at me. I offered $5 to cover ingredients, which I thought was way more than fair, but the waitron just stared at me some more, and again quoted the full price at me. Nope. I walked out, and the owner chased me down screaming "you no pay, you no pay!" Correct. You no cook, I no pay. Funny how that works. Deming is a genuine POS of a town. If you'd like to experience the worst huevos I've ever had in NM, try Irma's and hope you get as "lucky" as I did. You'd have to pay me to try anything else from Irma's, or from Deming, for that matter. Avoid. Don't even stop your vehicle in Deming, is my advice. Good luck. read more

Stopped here on the way to Phoenix, from El Paso last July. Hubby had the parrillada for 1, and I had the menudo. Parrillada was good, menudo OK but I was not impressed. The plate seemed small and not very full : ( I give them kudos because they seem to have it every day, not only weekends. Not sure if it was a not so good batch, or if they were running out... However, I will try to remember to stick with the parrilladas next time : ) They are delicious. read more

DO NOT MISS THIS....it's amazing! We just had the absolute best meal at Irma's, and so when I saw a terrible review from 'Brandi M.' about 7 months ago (June 2022), I was SHOCKED! Listen.....this 'Brandi' is a 'Karen'..... The Irma's Special (for two people) came out on this amazing metal fish serving piece that kept everything hot and it was AMAZING! I preferred the beef to the chicken, but both were good. It came with the best beans I have ever eaten, and the cheese....wow! This is a 'mom & pop' local restaurant that serves amazing food at a very fair price, and our server was great. I don't know what (if anything) would have made Brandi (Karen) happy, but don't miss this place because of her. If I had any criticism, it would only be that I would have liked a tequila margarita; theirs are wine margaritas. I am quite sure this is a city licensing thing, and it's likely very expensive (or impossible) to get a liquor license, but it's not a big deal because the red beer was great and they also had all kinds of Mexican beer. RIDICULOUS!!! Absolutely ridiculous. Went there, had lunch AND ordered burritos to go. So we'd have them when we got home. NOT ONE Seriously NOT ONE OF THE BURRITOS was correct. WE PAID for extras. Added beans, onions, guac or onions. Each had a charge. AND not one of them was made correctly. I'd understand if one was wrong BUT all, that's a kitchen staff that doesn't pay attention. So what, they think 'oh by the time the customer gets home they'll never know'. That's laziness, poor service, no regard for their customers. Do I sound angry???? Hubby and I stopped over in Deming on our way to Texas. Didn't want to cook in our RV so we came upon this place. We have been both hankering for good mexican food since our last visit to a place in Arizona was less than stellar. We're seated right away and our server immediately brought us waters, chips and salsa. Salsa was a tad spicy but really had good flavor. I ordered a sangria and hub's ordered a modelo. My sangria was OUTSTANDING!!! Homemade all the way! Speaking of homemade we both had the Mexican Platter. Red Chile beef, taco, enchilada, chile rellano, rice and beans. OMY! Heaven!!! Beans and rice were fresh and made from scratch. No skimping here-large portions and everything spot on! Obviously they take pride in their food. For dessert we had sopapillia, freshly made, served hot with honey. Honorable mention to our server Karina. You were perfect and helped make the meal enjoyable!! read more

Oh my, this place had delicious food! It's a small place with locals eating there, and the salsa was really good. We always think that's kind of an indication of the rest of the meal. We ordered enchiladas which were great, made with incredibly good homemade corn tortillas. We wanted to stop on our way home from our trip, too. If we were closer than 100 miles away, we would have gone for it! Next time we'll be closer! read more

Great pit stop for lunch on a long drive today. Stopped in with my fiancé and we really enjoyed our food. The chips and salsa are complimentary when you grab a seat and their salsa was delicious!! I ordered the chicken chimichanga with green sauce and it came with rice (didn't love this side) and beans (pretty good). The chimichanga was so good and I LOVED the green sauce. My fiancé had the carne asada tacos and they were tasty but very small. 4 tacos were more of a snack for him than a meal. He loved my chimichanga though! The service was great!! The food does take a little while to come out of the kitchen but we weren't in any kind of rush so we didn't mind. Definitely worth stopping by if you are driving through! read more

Twice in three days! Took a trip to New Mexico for the wine fest and stopped on the way there and back! Food is fantastic! The #1 combo has a little bit of deliciousness all together. The chile relleno is one of the best I've ever had. Not your typical thick breading, you can taste the flavor of the chili. Also tried the carne asada burritos. So much flavor! This place is definitely a must stop! I found this place on Yelp several years ago and now every time I'm passing by I make sure to stop in, and so does my family now too! Stopped here on a road trip for takeout. We ordered a la carte: a cheese enchilada with red sauce, chicken taquitos, a green sauce Chile relleno, which was the best green sauce EVER. Irma's was an excellent choice to stop at for lunch between Tucson and Albuquerque. My husband and I each ordered a burrito with guacamole. He got a carne asada and I got a chicken burrito. The tortillas were home made and the filling moist and delicious. The red salsa was home made and delicious as well. It was mild but left a pleasant tingle on the lips.The price was right! $4.00 per burrito. We ate our lunch near the Native American pottery fountain plaza just up the street. This place was amazing..even with a simple lunch. The red sauce on the enchiladas with impeccably seasoned beef, the incredibly flavored rice, the slow cooked pork in green chili sauce...all adds up to what this type food should strive for. Excellent chorizo, not greasy at all. My hubby had the huevos rancheros, and that red sauce is some of the best in the state of NM - a state full of great red sauces!!! You won't be disappointed. In different strokes for different folks, I'm going to be the iceberg here in the sea of four and five star ratings. While Irma's has much to commend it as a stop in in this little town when you're spending the night and hunger needs to be satisfied, it was not the four and a half star experience for food that we expected based on reviews. Maybe our expectations were too high. But we've enjoyed a lot of great Mexican food over the years, from hole in the wall taqueria's to family owned formats like this one to upscale Mexican dining restaurants. And on any scale of comparison, we found the food here just A-OK. The salsa was fiery good and the chips were good enough. The beans were great. Tamale with green chili sauce and Carnot's were OK but not memorable. The guacamole simply mashed avocado with perhaps a little citrus added. The standout here, and the reason to pick Irma's from among several Mexican restaurant competitors if you're in town, is the very friendly service from the young women who work there. This is clearly a locals place and it was almost completely full by 5:30 on a Saturday night. In seat yourself format, the three waitresses were barely able to get the tables cleared before someone walked in the door to take them. Yet they remained cheerful, friendly and seemingly unflustered, Very nice indeed. The menu asks diners to be patient during peak times. And it is easy to be that given the friendly service and that it is fun to people watch the local diners, big family tables of multi generations in groups of eight and nine, couples of all ages and dudes who from their duds seemed to be coming in after a day of hard work. Although downtown, this felt like a neighborhood place. Very nice too. Beverages are limited to soft options, a few beers in bottle and sangria or wine based margarita drinks. We would have had the sangria but our server said they had run out of the ingredients to make it. Which is good news if you consider that means the sangria is house made, just like nearly everything else. We opted for lemonade and it was served in a tall (plastic) glass with lots of ice, just as we like it. Prices are low. The carnitas, tamale and guacamole with two lemonades clocked in just over $20, tax included. Based on the reviews here, Irma's was actually a destination spot for us on this trip. Four stars or more means "destination worthy" to us. We can't assign that based on our experience. But we can say A-OK if you're in town and looking for a pretty good place to eat. read more

Several thoughts about this place. First, you should know that I'm from Texas, so I am used to good Tex-Mex. I knew we were taking a risk trying Mexican food in New Mexico, but Irma's is the best rated restaurant in Deming, so we thought we'd give it a try. I'd say it was pretty good. Tips: only the first serving of chips and salsa is complimentary. This is very strange to me because in Texas, they stuff you with chips and salsa until you're too full to even enjoy your entree. The good news is that nobody really needs a second helping of fried tortilla chips, so even though clamping down like that put a bad taste in my mouth, it was no inconvenience to us. The other reviewers are correct that the chips are good and crisp and the salsa is hot and tasty. The soda is served canned over ice, no free refills, and a member of my party was served an expired soda. When made aware of this, the waitress promptly replaced it with a tea and we were not charged for the soda. She was patient, courteous, and very professional. I think her name was Erica. I ordered the shredded beef stuffed sopapillas with green sauce. The sopapilla itself was very good, but the beef inside wasn't very flavorful. I mixed it with the beans to make it taste like something. The beans were savory, made with real pinto beans, not that refried mush from powder (although I like that too!). I really enjoyed the green sauce. Another member of my party got nachos and felt they needed more cheese. The best dish served to my party was the cheese enchiladas with red sauce, which I'd describe as very good. They were too spicy for my sister but I enjoyed them. Nothing we tried was hotter than the salsa, even though the green sauce was supposed to be spicy. Six of us ate for $58 before tax and tip, and I got way more than I could eat for $6.99. The inexpensiveness and the service bumped my rating from three to four stars. read more

Good food at reasonable prices. The place is like one of those hole in the wall local spots. It was packed on Sunday evening. Luckily, a table opened up when my party of 6 arrived so we sat immediately. There's only 1 large table. The menus had lots to choose from. I had the fish fillet and it was tasty. The weird thing was that it was served over plain rice, toast, and veggies. Not sure if it was a NM thing, but Mexican food in California is different. The servers were awesome. It had jalapeños listed, but DANG it was really spicy. Had a baked potato that was room temperature, butter didn't melt in it. Not trying to make it sound bad, it wasn't.
