There are new girls behind the counter and the servings are getting tiny. I figured it was a fluke the first few times but again today we placed an order for pickup. Our bowls weren't even half filled and there was hardly any toppings that I asked for other than an abundance of crunchy noodles. Looks like we're going to have to find another place soon. Here, you get the benefits of delicious fresh fish with all the fresh vegetables and the type of starch of your choosing. Since I am somewhat quirky about being served and what goes into my food, I was thrilled to be able to pick everything that went into it. I started with brown rice and greens and added fresh tuna and spicy salmon. That was topped off by an array of vegetables from cucumbers to shredded pickled carrots, scallions, avocado, seaweed salad. The cherry on top was fresh fish roe and sesame seeds. Very excited to have found a good poke spot close to home! My visit to Iron Poke didn't fully blow me away, but was very tasty and did satisfy my craving for poke. I felt that the rice & salmon lacked some flavor, and didn't appreciate that my takeout order was left on a table outside the restaurant to sit in the sun, and potentially be taken by anyone walking by. This is probably one of the best poke bowls I've had. I came upon this place because someone suggested it at work and the lunch I had packed was terrible so I decided to try. Best idea ever! We are currently living in a terrible time, especially for us yelpers who genuinely enjoy going out to eat. Good thing iron poke offers delivery! The first thing I will say is that the portion size is massive! You can either get one of their suggested options or you can build your own bowl. I usually get the mixed greens base and am literally so stuffed from how much food there is, can't even imagine getting that much rice. The vegetables are fresh and crunchy, not mushy or soggy. Love the fact that you can choose multiple toppings without having to pay extra. This is definitely a place to try, I promise you will not regret it. I was excited to try this place out because it is close to home and I love poke bowls.... I was disappointed because I wanted to like this place...so sad :( The protein to base ratio was off. The amount of protein I had was gone and I still had a lot of the salad and rice left in my bowl. The scooper they used to measure the spicy salmon and shrimp seemed the size of a melon baller. I picked the spicy salmon and instead of chunks of fish, it was more like minced fish. In my opinion, definitely not worth the $13. Also I decided to pay the extra $1 for avocado... which was a very small amount. Not worth the money! This place looked clean, however, you cannot ignore the fishy aroma that greets you when you walk in. I've been to plenty of poke places and usually you cannot smell the fish, however, here you can. Not sure if it is from fish not being fresh. The cashier also seemed distracted as people he knew was coming in to check out the place, which meant I was in line longer than I wanted to be. I ordered the 3 protein and added on the avacado and masago. My total came out to a little over $17 but because it was so big i was able to share it with my husband. All ingredients were very fresh. I love that you are able to add anything you want to the bowl. My only complaint is that the rice seems more like white rice and not sushi rice. This is the place where I have tried poke for the first time ever due to the constant nagging of my friend wanting to get poke which is supposedly the most amazing thing on earth so here we are. I am not an avid sushi lover or anything like that, but after trying poke at Iron poke, I guess I am converted into a poke lover. I am usually hesitant to eating raw fish, but I always get the spicy tuna and spicy salmon in my bowl here. Everything tastes very fresh including the add ins which include my avocado. If you're looking for sauce recommendations, I love the Hawaiian sauce with the spicy mayo. I think its reasonably priced, albeit more on the expensive side with a regular bowl without avocado being $13. I would definitely get poke over a bowl of chipotle any day. (fight me). read more

You have your choice of 2 or 3 proteins over rice or greens, then add any toppings you want (all included except avocado which is an extra dollar) They always have the option for a burrito which is interesting. I've never had poke before so I can't say how it compares in price to other places, but the portions were generous. I had a lot of questions and the staff was very helpful in answering them. Me and my wife decided to stop in early Sunday afternoon not knowing that the restaurant was about 15 minutes from opening, we were kind of disappointed as we turned away until a very nice lady came outside and told us to come inside anyway we're pretty much open. Solid poke spot for sure. Will definitely try it again to be sure. Expensive but worth it and you do get a generous portion and they have good topping choices. Their sauce was way too salty so next time I'd ask for the sauce on the side or very little sauce (the Hawaiian sauce they call it). This new Japanese take out restaurant is a wonderful addition to Stony Brook and its surrounding neighborhoods. The owners have branched out into this new adventure called Aloha Poke. They are all hard working people with excellent restaurant experience behind them and it shows in the food they are serving here. My family came here for dinner tonight not knowing what to expect as we had never had pokey bowls before. While we were there several other customers came in talking about a place just like it in Manhattan and they were very happy that one has opened in Stony Brook. We ended up having a delightful dinner and we ate inside as there are about four tables as well as counter seating. The food was so good that we ordered an additional take-out order for lunch tomorrow. We wish Jackey, Tina and their new partnerships much success in this wonderful little spot in Stony Brook as they serve up excellent quality sushi style food called Poke Bowls. I love poke so I was excited to try this place. The flavors are pretty good. The fish is fresh and they have good sauce options. My main complaint is that I think it is overpriced for the amount of food you get ($11 for 2 small scoops of fish, $14 for 3 scoops) and the default portion size for everything is on the small side. Hopefully they lower their prices or make the portion sizes bigger. Edit: The portion sizes for fish are bigger now! You get a lot of food in a bowl. I was almost not able to finish mine.
