We went to Isla and Co for a lil bachelorette celebration for my friend who's getting married abroad and they made sure we were well taken care of when we dined here! Our waiter was extremely helpful - and gifted us all little glasses of champagne to celebrate. Came here on a sunday morning at 11 AM, and were seated quickly at a hightop table without a reservation. It was a very cute restaurant for brunch, with lots of natural sunlight and plants. Came in to try the kangaroo skewers and it did not disappoint. Happened to dine in during happy hour and we got to try some yummy espresso martinis. Whipped feta app is a must try, super refreshing and paired perfect with the focaccia. They did charge us the calamari appetizer with regular pricing instead of happy hour price which was $2 less but that didnt bother us since we weren't there for happy hour anyway. Conveniently located to the rooftop bar we were going to next door after. So many gluten free and vegetarian options! The server and the bartender were helpful, attentive and friendly. Party of 3, Friday night, reserved ahead of time. Lovely space with high ceilings and nice holiday decor. I want to come back again in the warmer months for outdoor seating. What a fun menu! They have patio and indoor. The patio is super cute especially with the lights for the Fall nights. The place itself reminds me a bit of Ruby's except it has Kangaroo here. The kangaroo texture is a bit different- more rough? I can't put my finger on what exactly makes the taste different but I will say that the tahini and stuff under it almost covers up the kangaroo taste. I got the Morning After burger which had kimchi aioli to make it a bit special. This created a sour type of spice in my mouth which was good. Too bad the burger was a bit on the smaller side. They gave a hefty amount of fries but the fries weren't that good imo. The lamb ragu was good but I think if they switched the type of pasta, the texture would complement the texture of the braised meat even more. Just another solid brunch place, no complaints. My partner and I decided to sit outside and a friendly waitress with an Australian accent seated us and placed our orders. Taste-wise the entrees were pretty standard but were executed well, the brekkie roll was big, flavorful, and juicy and the smoked salmon benedict had the perfect poached eggs and creamy hollandaise sauce. Couldn't complain about the oysters either. But the kangaroo tucker was disappointing because it was dry and chewy even though the flavors were there. The drinks we got to wash everything down were very good, especially the chai latte. Ambiance-wise, while the greenery outside is nice, it is not without the occasional bugs circling around your food. It would've been smarter to sit inside as the vibe is just as nice with the natural lighting from outside streaming in from the windows coupled with the relaxing white and beige interior. Regardless of where you sit, it's still a good vibe. Service was really friendly and our waitress checked in with us throughout our meal and made sure we always had enough water. The atmosphere is nice as it gives a nice relaxing vibe. You can enjoy the outdoor with some trees and greenery. They WILL get you drunk though so be careful. We decided to get some snackies while we were there. The kung pao cauliflower is good but we were big fans of the spicy wings. They have a chic outdoor seating area across from William Vale, but it was windy so we decided to dine indoors. Inside was spacious, with high ceilings and a cool vibe. For a Saturday night at 8pm, it wasn't busy and we were able to get a nice table for 4 by the window. Everything we ordered was delicious and I would highly recommend them. - Charred Octopus ($21+) This is a must-try. The octopus was plump and delicious. The chili sauce was a little too spicy for my taste so I couldn't finish it, but it was flavorful and very tasty, with plenty of cannelloni beans. - Blistered Brussel Sprouts ($14+) This was another delightful dish. The brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection, with the perfect balance of crispness. - Fish & Chips ($26+) One of my friends ordered this dish and I had a bunch of the fries. This is a huge dish with more fries than you could possibly eat--great for sharing. The service was friendly, but not the most attentive. Sort of stumbled into this place driving by. From the outside it sets a relaxing mood. Came in and asked for Mexican coffee and took a seat outside. So it turns out they didn't make Mexican coffees. Instead of just telling me no, waiter came out and explained they were willing to try unless I wanted something else. I needed a kick and something to calm me so I told him to give it a try. High ceilings, giant windows that let in a ton of natural light, plants adorning the wall in front of the bar. Very charming ambiance. As far as food goes, something I did find a bit peculiar is that the menu is very similar to a restaurant called Hole in The Wall (they are owned by the same group). The reason I found it peculiar is that the restaurants are nearby each other (why would I go to both if they have almost identical menus?) and Hole in the Wall does better, more elevated versions of the dishes in my opinion. But all in all, the food here was good and I do think it's a solid brunch spot! I just wish the menu was more varied so I could come to both in the same weekend (hah!) I ordered: -Matcha Latte: a bit too matcha-y and grassy, but pretty looking. -Smoked Salmon Benedict: lots of salmon and perfectly poached eggs. We order the kangaroo tucker, the oysters, the jerk wings, the hummus, which we ate at the restaurant and a fish sandwich and Sticky date for home. The oysters were delicious. They were fresh and tasty but they weren't served with the roe as described in the menu. The kangaroo was okay but in my opinion it could have used a little more seasoning. My friend and I split two entrees as we almost both ordered the braised lamb shoulder... we decided instead to do 1 of those and 1 roasted half chicken and split them. Well, low key... not even low key, we almost wished we both got the braised lamb shoulder. Days later we're still talking about it and trying to find some in Austin that does the same style dish. It was great. My other friend had the burger and said it was good as well. Not even all that expensive, at least by NYC standards or even by Austin standards these days. I do think the fried fish sando could have been improved by changing the type of bun they used - for something as dense as a fried cod filet, I would have preferred combining that with something that gives the cod the support it needs - something like a solid potato bun, for example, to replace the seemingly airy, barely chewable bun that came with this dish. We came for restaurant week winter 2023 when this place seemed relatively new, on a Tuesday evening 6 pm. There was almost no one in the restaurant, and our waiter was so friendly.
