I would not recommend this restaurant. My husband and I ate at this restaurant twice during our stay in Oak Harbor because it was convenient. The food was disappointing each time, though the cafe itself had a pleasant ambiance. Throughout both visits, we ordered waffles, eggs, hashbrowns, mozzarella sticks, and a French dip sandwich. All were bland, flavorless, and cold. The waffle was soggy like it had been frozen. The mozzarella sticks were cold in the middle (probably because it was also frozen). Scrambled eggs were dry and flavorless. Even my toast came out almost burnt to a crisp. The manager (I'm assuming, as he was dressed much nicer than the other employees) didn't even seem to care that I only ate about 4 bites from my plate when he took the plate away. Next time we're in town, we're staying away from this place. read more

There is nothing wrong with this restaurant. The service is professional and serviceable. The ambiance is clean and 1980s diner-like. Coffee was good and refills generous, real half and half. Full breakfasts and lunches run about $20. The pancake syrup is mostly corn syrup. Jam is Smuckers individual packets. Eggs were cooked well and as ordered. Pancake was huge. My family stopped in for lunch and the place was pretty full for a Sunday afternoon. We had a short wait but it was a nice day and there are benches and outdoor seating where you can wait. Our meals were good, we all ordered soup, chowder and lobster bisque to start. Very flavorful starts, and excellent service. Our waitress was very attentive. Our meals were a good portion size and we all had doggy bags to take home. Prices are reasonable considering the sizes of the meals. Island Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants. I live on the south end and when I venture to the big city(Oak Harbor). I try to make it to Island Cafe. My visit last week was with a friend and we had the good fortune to have Taylor as our server. Nice smile as we came in and as she seated us. She was very nice, friendly and brought our coffee quickly after we requested it. Her service continued to be excellent with prompt reception of our meals with her timely quarter, half and finish checks and her cheerful farewell. I give her ! Serving breakfast all day is one of the reasons I love Island Cafe. And their breakfast is good. My breakfast last week was prepared to perfection and piping hot. They have more than ample portions, I took half home and had it for breakfast the next morning. Some might say that food is expensive but even if one doesn't get a take out box home I maintain it is worth the price. One has to remember your paying for the whole experience not just the food. There was the bottom end of the romaine lettuce in my salad, the prices were really high and the cod was over cooked and under seasoned. It only had a small strip of seasoning on one part and it tasted like they used everything bagel seasoning on it. The veggies were good but were clearly just cooked in the grease from the breakfast as they left grease all over the plate so what should have been a healthy option was greasy. We came across Island Cafe when looking for a good breakfast in Oak Harbor before continuing on our PNW road trip. I expected a really long wait as it was the morning after the 4th of July but we were seated pretty quickly, maybe 15 minutes after checking in. The food was classic American fare and the service was great despite how busy it was. We were well taken care of and my coffee cup was kept full. I loved my Potatoes Rancheros! We visited Island Cafe for a weekend brunch on a visit to Whidbey Island. I had done prior Yelp research for a breakfast place and we chose this as it was convenient for our route and had good reviews. The location has a parking lot (which was full at weekend brunch time) and is conveniently sited on SR20. Inside the restaurant is clean and decorated with thematic local items. Service was great at all times, friendly and helpful. The menu has a very wide selection, with lots of breakfast and lunch items and a few dinner items. The menu is traditional American breakfast and lunch choices, with lots of options in the normal range. We both had breakfast, and got lots of good quality, well-cooked food. I had a scramble, which was good and came with shredded hash browns (which were fine, though I would have preferred the option of breakfast potatoes). I got a side of onion rings which were also good. Overall this was a great basic breakfast place. Nothing extraordinary, just the basics done very well with good service. I would gladly return again. Really liked this place! I came here with my family for lunch on a vacation trip to Whidbey island. We stopped in around noon with a big group of 8 or us and they were able to accommodate us quickly. Even with a big crew we all found something that we loved! The food is classic American diner food and man is it good! Think salads, burgers, sandwiches, and breakfast food. It seems like someone in our group got something from each category and we all loved it. Some of the highlights were the cinnamon roll French toast, famous fish and chips, steak fajita omelet, perfectly cooked burgers, and awesome fries (they offer a choice of classic, garlic, sweet potato, and onion rings!). All of the food was classic but incredibly well done. I don't think any of our picky family members had a complaint! The restaurant is located right off SR-20 in Oak Harbor. Makes for a convenient pit stop after a trip to one of the forts or Deception Pass. Parking is convenient and the restaurant is cute and clean. I also have to give a big shout out to the service! WOW! This place had HUGE portions and the staff was very accommodating, friendly, and quick. They had 2 servers serving us and the manager came to say hi and check in also. My husband and I came here for dinner since we got recommendations from friends to come here for good food. But after our visit, we weren't satisfied with the food and service was just alright. Apparently, the friends that recommended us here were trying to say it was Island Cafe's breakfast that was good and not their dinner. Well, now we know. We came on a Sunday late evening and although it wasn't crowded, it took awhile for the workers to acknowledge us when we entered then seat us. The worker that sat us was apologetic though. After we got sat, it took awhile for our server to come by to greet us and bring us water. My husband ordered the club sandwich and I ordered the chili bowl with garlic bread. Let's just say, the food was just alright. My husband didn't look satisfy with his sandwich as he kept taking it apart and eating it separately. He mentioned it was pretty dry. And my chili bowl was served to me cold, it was a bit bland and the garlic bread was a sad cold bread with a small smear of garlic butter. Probably would never get that again.
