We went there with my family for a dinner based on previous reviews. Cute place with beach style decor. We were excited to get some food as we got very hungry after walking the trails. Food came out fast. Plates portions were pretty big. I wasn't really impressed with food as is was just ok. Fries were kind of dry and same as my fish and chips. We only got one set of silverware and had to look for more napkins around the tables. My husband's burger was a little burned which is too bad as it looked delicious when came out. The service was good. We came with 7 people during the lunch rush and were sat within ten minutes, which made me happy because it's a busy place. The food was well prepared and the portions were more than I expected. However, if you order a senior portion you may get less than you expect but the prices are discounted. If you order a main entree, like the fish and chips, as others I was with they said it was a bit too heavy and more food than expected but that's subjective dependent on your appetite. Speaking from my own experience though, considering this was one of the top restaurants in the area I think they should consider having more vegan and vegetarian restaurants. Specifically, they only had a total of four vegan options at the restaurant (oatmeal, two types of fries, and hash browns). All they would have to buy is frozen veggie patties and maybe some vegan butter if they want to be fancy--it's not hard. As someone to visits this area so often I would hope they would improve. We opted to drive from Everett to Deception Pass and head south through Whidby Island. We saw this cafe and thought we would try it. Our server, Brittany, was as friendly and efficient. Larry got the California BLT on sourdough bread. It had plenty of bacon and avocado. His side salad was good. I had a cup of clam chowder with the avocado bacon burger. They both were really good. The prices are higher than we are used yo in Florida but seems to be average for this area. read more

Easy parking. Seated with water immediately. Server was fine. She didn't refill but checked on us once. Food was good. There isn't a chain diner in town. This is the all day breakfast place if that's what you're craving. I loved my country breakfast. Biscuit and gravy were very tasty. Three meat omelette is a crowd favorite. They have the most consistently amazing breakfast or brunch food! Chicken fried steak and eggs is exceptional, as is their service.

Husband and I stopped by last night for a bite. Knowing that it was a Saturday night and arriving at 7 pm, we knew there would be a bit of a wait but we were told 20-25 min and that was acceptable to us. Our waitress, Tricia was personable and fun. Our meal, I had the chicken teriyaki sandwich and husband had a club sandwich, were prepared well and tasty. The fries that we ordered, regular for husband and sweet potato for me were crispy. Husband ordered a chocolate milkshake that several times he said was very good. He's picky about chocolate milkshakes so when he says it's good more than once, it must be really good. I saved my palate for a glass of Chardonnay so wasn't able to verify for myself that his chocolate shake was good! We enjoyed the casual family atmosphere as well. This was our first time visiting a friend in Oak Harbor and the next time we visit we definitely will return to this cafe. read more

We have eaten here on numerous occasions for breakfast, lunch and dinner, service has always been very good and the meals have been great. A stranger on the street recommended Island Café three weeks ago, but the parking lot was packed so we drove by. Now we are back on Whidbey Island at breakfast time and decided to give Island Café a try. I'm so glad we did. I ordered the special shrimp crab spinach eggs Benedict and it's the best I've ever had. Kind of disappointed on this visit.. there were only 4 tables, so not busy. We went in for dinner, and ordered a couple of Breakfast meals.. unfortunately one of them was barely warm, and the eggs didn't come as ordered.. the hash browns were cold and the 1/2 piece of sausage (not even a whole piece) was Luke warm.. Come on! At least heat up the pre cooked items (sausage, bacon hash browns) before plating and sending to the table. We have eaten here many times and it seems lately, the food isn't up to the normal standard. Service was good, but for Christ sake.. Heat up the damn food. Food was good, but the service was incredibly rude. The place was packed so we did the drive through option and I ordered an iced coffee with creamer with my fish and chips When we got to the window i noticed both the coffees were hot, and very much just black coffees. I asked about my drink and he said, but moreso about the creamer - cuz the drinks were filled to the brim with no room, and all he said was, "I dont do iced coffee." We were in a rush so I didn't say anything about it, ended up getting creamer myself at the safeway close by but I just felt like he wasn't even planning on offering any alternatives. There were 5 that had a wonderful breakfast. The restaurant was full which was a good sign. We were seated within 15 minutes. I ordered the special which featured prime rib which was excellent. All of the wait staff were grumpy. I had a breakfast burrito that was just awful. It had ground up bacon, a bare minimum of cheese and dry, tasteless eggs. The cost was high at around $18. I left with a stomach ache and a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Who puts just ground pork in biscuits and gravy? Well this place does or they just have some REALLY bland sausage. The chef needs to know, you must still season your food as you cook, at least salt and pepper. Prices for drinks seems a little steep, yes even in these times. read more
