My 17 year old daughter and I have done a lot of diving together and have used a lot of different dive boat operations and Island Divers ranks right up near the top with some of the best we've used. We did a 2 tank dive with them this morning (deep / reef) and had Larry as our instructor leading the dives. It's not always easy to keep things together when you have a group of divers of different skill levels but he did fantastic and found a lot of great life to point out to us (those that weren't obvious like the sharks and turtles). Captain was thorough and the crew was very helpful with making sure everyone was safe getting in and out of the boat. And very good rates on top of it all. We will definitely use them again. I finished my Advanced scuba certification and Nitrox with Island Divers last week. I was super impressed with how professional and welcoming the instructors and staff were both in the shop and on the dives. Sarah and Dave were by far the best instructors I've had. I felt completely comfortable on all dives as dive plans were well explained and executed. The equipment was well maintained and any questions I had were explained. Went diving here on the afternoon tour last week, and I have to say the experience was wonderful. I am a PADI certified diver, and was traveling on my own and wanted to do some diving in Oahu away from a lot of crowds. Decided to go with this one since it was close to where I was staying. I was initially worried because the tour had a mix of PADI certified divers, open certification students, and a few discover scuba diving students. I was mainly worried that I would have to spend a lot of time waiting for them to finish training etc., but they treated the PADI certified divers extremely well, made sure to setup all of our equipment, let us go on our own while they were teaching some skills, and still gave us a great tour all around to see some incredible sites and get extremely close to at least 6 sea turtles and other great views. Would definitely recommend, only thing is they told us to meet at noon, but really didn't leave until 1pm, that hour was spent walking some of the new students and discover scuba folks the crash course, so it would be convenient if they told certified divers to meet closer to 1 or at least at 1230/1245. Otherwise everything was outstanding! read more

The instructors here are exceptional. Mary, helped a lot when I was struggling on the New Years Day three tanker. By the third tank, she'd given me pointers that changed everything. Then she set me up for a Peak Performance Buoyancy specialty, which I completed today. Fantastic course taught by Nacho. Today my air lasted a lot longer and I had much more control during the dive. I'm looking forward to taking more specialty courses. Especially because if we complete five, we get to go on the charter to Molakai in January 2018. Mary, Dan and the rest of the crew were terrific! Very professional but also lots of fun, and Mary knew all the coolest spots. Even though it was pretty rough on the surface they kept it safe and as easy as it could be. They know their gear and keep their rentals clean and well-maintained. Island Divers was professioral and fun! Pick ups were within the time frame promised. All DMs and crew were so fun and helpful. Mary is a hoot! My boyfriend and I are highly experienced divers/dive professionals and appreciated having a bit of freedom during dives. Dive briefings were thorough and appropriate. Mary and the other DMs seemed very in tune with which divers had more experience and which needed a little more help. They acted appropriately for each diver's experience level and comfort level. And best of all, they kept all divers safe while having fun! If you want to rock out on a fun boat and have a great dive experience, Island Divers is a must! Ask for Mary. We had our own instructor for our dive, which was really nice. It was just him, my husband and myself in our little group. I got sick as it was my first time diving, he was very patient with me and when I told him I wasn't feeling well we ended the dive. Pick up from Hawaiian Village Hotel was always on time (we needed two days of diving). We rented wet suit, BCD and regulators. Gear was in good condition with the exception of some of the wetsuits that were very worn. The dive masters are friendly and patient. one member of our party was completing open water certification and others were already certified. Really enjoyed the dives with Forrest. The second day dives went much better than the day before when winds at 30-40 knots with waves 5-6 feet caused many on the boat to become sick and the poor diving conditions made it difficult for those undergoing certification to complete some of their training tasks. I know the dive shop can't control the weather and it just goes along with SCUBA diving.... All in all though, very enjoyable dives and crew/DMs read more

Dove with this company twice after trying a different shop with much less satisfaction. First day with Sarah, Katie and Capt Neal for 2 shallow reef dives. Very happy with dives and knowledgeable and outgoing staff. Enjoyed it so much we came back two days later for deep and drift diving. Much to our delight we were back with Sarah and Capt Neal. I found this company after doing an internet search. I have been PADI certified for years but haven't been for the past 10 years. Needless to say I was in desperate need of a refresher. I spoke with Jeff over the phone and he was very accommodating and professional. Great customer service on picking up people from their hotels. My instructor is Jordan and he is the BOMB! He made my refresher easy, relaxed, and very informational. We went over all the basics and did some time in the pool which helped a lot. Don't let the easy-going attitude fool you because he knows his stuff and the sites very well. I highly recommend Jordan if you want to have a great, fun, and of course safe experience! Also, Larry was so helpful as well. Our last dive was in some rough water and it was extremely difficult getting back on the boat with all the gear. Larry helped me out by getting the gear off in the water so I could make it on the boat. Larry ROCKS! Both Jordan and Larry were extremely professional and more importantly made it FUN. I was happy with my rental gear and they fit very well. Not sure what the other reviews are complaining about. Anyways, I'd dive with them again in a heart beat. read more

My wife and I. along with two friends did the intro course followed by two dives. Hotel pickup and drop off as well as transport from the practice pool to the dive shop. All went well. Great instruction while practicing and diving. Jo (Dive Uber Master) did a great job making sure we all felt really comfortable. Both dives were good with plenty-o turtles about (big win for the wives with us). RE the old gear comments on here... I could careless but the suits were old... Worked just fine though. I definitely did not see anyone without second air sources... Jo was all over that stuff from start to finish. And.... The captain is Bruce Springsteens brother!!! BOOM. I have been on several dives through local dive shops, and this was my best experience. I took a total of 7 dives through Island Divers and I couldn't be happier with how they treated myself and my dive partners. The dive masters were highly experienced in the location and local fish life, pointing everything clearly out to us. Getting off and on the boat was so much simpler because their crew would help you get in and out of your gear, preventing you from slipping and falling with your tank on your back. I rented the equipment and it worked exactly how it was supposed to. They provided sandwiches for the 3 tank dives, and drinks and snacks for the other dives, perfect for those who are prone to get seasick. The dive leaders would also carry cameras and equipment that they would take cool photos and videos of divers next to fish, turtles, and octopuses. To the other reviews complaining about sea problems and having to wait, they cant control the sea, it happens sometimes. I had to wait an extra half hour due to a boat/passenger problem, but when you dive theirs no rush. I give my credit to Nate, he was on each and every one of my dives, perfect diver and crewman. read more

WOW....that sums it up. Blair and Drew were great as our DM's We had a Great experience today with the Team from Island Divers. We did a two-tank dive out to see the YO-257 and Sea Tiger wrecks off Oahu Town Side. Very good conditions today, and an excellent dive experience. Highly recommended. The Crew was very professional and experienced.....well trained. Their emphasis on Safety and briefings was a sure sign that this was a very reputable operation. Even the approach back to the dock was 'scripted' to assure a safe end to the day. Diving the wrecks - Blair as our DM was able to keep an eye on us and assure we had a good dive with no issues. She had just the right amount of oversight and made us feel comfortable with the dive and conditions. And we even got to see the whales breach as we approached the dive sight and again during our surface interval. Now I can't say Island Divers arranged that, but we enjoyed the whales. My 14 year-old son and I just got back to our Hotel after two dives with Island Divers. the water visibility was great, we saw allot of sea life, including two huge turtles. It was my sons first dive since being certified. He had a great experience and good time. As for the Dive shop, it was also very good, and we plan to go with them again. We were picked up at our Waikiki hotel--exactly on time, by Drew, who was also one of the dive instructors. Drew then told us all the things we could expect to see on the dive and things to watch out for. He also told us of other dives spots around the island and around the world. We walked in the front door, signed the paperwork, our gear was already laid out of us to make sure it fit, then went out the back door of the dive shop and stepped directly onto the boat--couldn't be easier. I couldn't imagine a better set-up for open water dive trips. I plan to dive again with them. Drew set the tone for a nice day. The other dive instructor named Body (I think I spelled it wrong, but his name was like Toby, but with a B), anyway, he was also very experienced and I was glad to dive with both of them and plan to go again. There are some great diving companies on Oahu, but as far as I am concerned, I like Island Divers the best by far. They have a great shop with their dive boats right there behind the shop, so there is no problem if you have an equipment problem. The Sea Fox is a great dive boat, I have been on many! The staff is professional, educational and most of all, FUN! For local divers they have a special rate, and if you need gear, their prices are always reasonable. Today we went out, and we saw grass eels, white tip sharks (harmless!) tons of turtles, and I even played with an octopus! After the dive, the local restaurants made the day a hit! Can't say enough about this shop and her crew! read more

My review is a bit different, as I recently spent several months diving with Island Divers Hawaii, working and diving with all their instructors and staff. I already had my Basic Scuba Certification from the mainland, but I wanted to take my skills and knowledge to the next level as there's no room for errors when you're 50-100' under water and I'm a firm believer that my safety is my own responsibility. First up was getting the Advanced Certification, followed immediately by the Rescue Certification where the emphasis turns from taking care of you to taking care of others. Then came my Divemaster training and certification. What I most enjoyed about Island Divers Hawaii during all this dive training was having so many highly qualified and experienced instructors to work with. These are people who have been diving for years, all over the world, and while they clearly love what they do (scuba diving off a boat in Hawaii...duh!), I was constantly impressed with how helpful and seriously they are about being safe while having fun. Every instructor I worked with was fun but insisted I know what I was doing and I do it well. And that is exactly the kind of training I was looking for! As a divemaster in training, I constantly witnessed divers who ignored the instructors dive briefing and/or paid no attention to their air, their dive buddies or their surroundings! For some reason, people seem to forget that as a certified diver it is their responsibility to dive safely and within their training levels. In short, the instructors, Captains and staff at Island Divers Hawaii are fun to dive with, extremely competent and knowledgeable, wonderful at answering questions and helped me to become a skilled diver in my own right. We had Larry as our guide for two days and four dives. Our first day of diving was my first post certification and first time in the ocean and my fiancee's first dive in 8 years. Larry was extremely patient and took care of us in our noobness and rustiness. On both days, Larry was superb in locating all of the interesting wild life - he knew all of the hangouts for green turtles, octopus, scorpionfish and eels. I dove with Island Divers Hawaii on 20 Feb 2016 in Hawaii Kai to the Landing Craft and a drift dive to a cave and the water clarity was amazing. Also, the boat, captain, dive team, and experience was excellent. We saw fish, turtles, swam under the wreck, and saw a white tip share in the rear of the cave. Island Divers Hawaii is just an outstanding organization with the best people one can imagine. Great communications in arranging the dive and the cost was very reasonable. Island Divers provided hotel pickup and drop off and all scuba gear. The dive gear was very food quality, including a dive computer in the console. BCD featured integrated weights and a very good wet suit was provided. The dive shop is well equipped and the staff, starting with Mary, is just outstanding. The dive boat was good size, maybe 40', and well crewed. Captain Joe is very skilled and very safety conscious. Crew was super friendly and helpful. Crew set up dive gear, assisted with donning equipment and getting into and out of the water. We were greeted with fresh sliced pineapple when we surfaced from the second dive. Dive masters Kevin Cloud and Casey were just fantastic. Led our little group on two dive tours and we saw lots of colorful fish and more sea turtles than I could count. I've been diving off and on for 40 years and this is the best dive experience I have ever had. read more

Have not gone out with this group, but was looking up their information after seeing them on GroupOn. After reading the above paragraph, I will not be patronizing such a family UNfriendly business. For one, life jackets DO fit children under five. I've had one for my 6yo since she was TWO. Secondly, I have been on cruises (glacier, whale/wildlife) where there have been seasick children, and it did NOT ruin the trip. ~AND THIS IS THEIR RESPONSE~ "Aloha, Well, Mainly because it is not safe to have a child under 5 on a dive boat with 30 lb tanks on peoples backs and walking around. Sorry if you disagree. Also, you have never been a customer of ours and it seems a bit extreme for you to be so upset with any policy we may have. If you do not approve then please find a business that suits you. There is no reason to write a complaint just because we do not cater to your children. My girlfriend and I did my PADI open water diving course with Island Divers. We called down to the shop to talk to someone about it face to face. Here, Jeff was extremely helpful and friendly. He really got you excited for doing this course. Our first day (pool skills) was with Alex who was extremely friendly and funny. The conversation never ran out, whether it was focusing on our diving skills or just general banter. Our 1st and 2nd open water dives were with a young guy called Brendan. He was friendly and gave us a good introduction to the water to get us comfortable, by letting us explore the underwater world before pressuring us with skills. Our 3rd and 4th dives were with a guy called Larry. Unfortunately my girlfriend was unable to equalize her ears after several attempts descending so she had to discontinue the dive. The dives were brilliant though. Larry tackled all of my skills in these dives quickly and efficiently and then proceeded to let us explore the underwater world. He looked into every crack and crevasse until he was able to find and point out turtles, octopuses and numerous eels. Jeff was extremely friendly with regards to my girlfriends predicament as he allowed her to come back and complete her last 2 dives free of charge on any day that suited her. When she went back to complete her last 2 dives, I did 2 dives with the group. I was even given a reduced price! For these last few days we had a guy called Nathan. Nathan was extremely friendly and great company. He was constantly chatty and there were many laughs. This dive was definitely the most enjoyable as the group dynamic was great as everyone was chatting and getting on great. He too got a great underwater experience for the group as he pulled an octopus from a crevasse and placed it on everyones' hands. My girlfriend was also very pleased with the way he came across as a tutor for her underwater skills. After the dives we were even offered further discounts on more dives if we wanted to. Unfortunately we had to return home a couple of days after this so we were unable to. Overall I am giving Island Divers 5 stars for the extremely friendly and approachable staff. If i am ever back on Oahu I will definitely be diving with them again. read more
