Island Fender was recommended to me by USAA to fix a dent on my Lexus Rx 350 tailgate. We brought it to their shop on 10/12/12. It is now 10/31/12 and the car is still there. Lots of excuses like Lexus sent a damaged tailgate that had to be re-ordered. No one bothered to put the tailgate back on and return the car when the right part arrived. There are lots of other shops to go to. You want good service. Go elsewhere. read more

Isl fender try to rip off insurance n customer. They give customer cheaper price on estimated if u no fix your car there n higher price if u fix your car there wtf. They give u all kind bs about other shop don't have this n don't do this only them do that so the price higher if u go through them. If any1 have to go through your ins for damage on your car don't bring it to isl fender. I wouldn't recommended any1 to go through them for estimated if u don't plan to fix your car there. Make sure u ask question about the estimated n your ins company b4 u leave your car there. Never see any body that have two dif estimated. read more

Every thing about this place was great except for the receptionist. The guys are really good at explaining things and letting me know how everything was going, the receptionist on the other hand kept getting things mixed up. The day I was suppose to finally pick up my car she didn't call me at all. I called less then an hour until closing on a Friday btw.. she said she still had some paper work to put together and that's why she hasn't called me yet but the car is ready to pick up. The guys told me it was ready 2 days before that. She got a lot of things mixed up but the guys made up for it. Get rid of this lady and it would be a 5 star business all the time for sure. read more

I recently bought a new 2015 Honda Odyssey. The day after picking up my new license plates from the dealership, I had it parked in my in-laws garage when a big gust of wind blew down two large storage cabinets on to the passenger side door and front fender. Just my luck they would fall during the two hours I parked there when they stood in the garage for over 10 years with no problems. They were so heavy, I could barely lift them off the car. They left big dents and scratches on the fender and passenger door, chipped the paint on the bumper, and broke the passenger mirror and housing. The next day, I called Geico and met with the insurance adjuster at one of their guaranteed repair program shops. After writing up the estimate, he gave me a list of their guaranteed repair shops. I looked all of them up on Yelp and but none of them stood out from the rest or had an overall glowing rating. I decided to go with Island Fender since they actually had a website with more information and the bad reviews they had didn't have anything to do with the quality of their work. I called Island Fender and scheduled a time for their estimator to look at the car. Their warehouse and office space was very clean and neat which gave it a very professional feel - a far cry from the other shop where the Geico adjuster worked out of which I'm sorry to say looked a little like a junk yard. The Island Fender estimator gave me a full explanation of the work they would be doing and answered all my questions. I explained to him that there were a couple of additional damages that the Geico adjuster missed but told me later to mention to Island Fender when I took the car in. The Island Fender estimator looked at them and agreed that they were related to the accident and that they would be taken care of. He explained that they would call me when they got a confirmation on the ETA of the new side mirror and would add a couple of days to make sure the new part was in good condition. They do this so I wouldn't have to go back again to get my car if the part arrived damaged. So I get a call from Island Fender that they have an ETA and schedule a drop off date. After dropping it off, I immediately began receiving text messages from them, periodically informing me of the repair status. The repairs took just 4 days so I was really happy. Upon inspecting my repaired vehicle, I noticed that the additional damages that I mentioned when I first took the car in were not fixed. Apparently, the additional work was not communicated to the staff actually doing the repairs so they only fixed what the Geico adjuster listed on his estimate. I also noticed some dust bumps on the paint but I thought it was expected since I understood a re-paint would never be like the factory paint. The estimator who helped me the first time was very apologetic and and told me they would need to reschedule the work and that he would make sure my car would get to the front of the line once I bring it back. This was inconvenient but I figured mistakes do happen, so I tell him I would call them to reschedule the work. I take it home and noticed that when I pulled the passenger door handle, it separated from the door about a centimeter. They failed to secure the handle correctly when they put it back on. Since I'm so focused on the handle, I also noticed that the repainted door had numerous dust specs in the indented area that the handle sat in. So I call them the next day to at least have the handle fixed while I waited because I needed to use the car. I also mention the dust area and they agree that it shouldn't be like that and that they will make sure any dust will be buffed out when they repaint the door to take out the ding they missed. Also, a small area of chipping paint on the bumper meant the entire bumper would be repainted. I was told that they guarantee their work so they don't do any touch up paint jobs where the problem could come back in the future. I finally drop my car off and I get a call from the estimator the next day telling me the damages were fixed and they were waiting for the paint to dry before putting the parts back together. By the third business day, I get a call in the late afternoon that the car was ready for pick up. When I went to get the car, everything was perfect. The color match was very good and I did a thorough search for dust specs and could not find any. I think unless you're an expert who does this type of work, you wouldn't be able to tell that my brand new car had any work done on it. Overall, it took longer than I thought but the end result was excellent and they really do care about customer service. They work really hard with you to address any issues you encounter to make you happy. read more

My car was side swiped by a young lady in January and I finally got my Mercedes 230 Kompresser back this past Monday. Why half a year of waiting? It was at the fault of the ladies insurance company who kept taking their sweet time and kept screwing up on their paper work. And on top of that, her insurance company agreed with me that I wanted Island Fender to do the repairs because they are a certified Mercedes repair shop but they later changed their mind and wanted to call my car a total lost! WTH?? So Island Fender closed the books on my case. Than they receive a call from First Insurance the lady's insurance company that they changed their minds and would cover the cost to have it fixed. When they sent the check to Island Fender, they had printed out the check in the name of the lady who had hit my car! WTH again!! So the receptionist Camillia who is very patient and sweet relayed this to me via a phone call of what was happening. I was so fustrated and who wouldn't be?? She had to void the check and send it back to First Insurance to reissue a new check, which took them time to do. Ugh!! Meanwhile Island Fender was nice in informing me that parts to repair my car had to be ordered from the factory. So that took time but it wasn't their fault at all. When I went to pick up my car a nice young guy named Jason went over every detail of what they did to fix my car. I was blown away by the fact that they went way beyond what was needed to be done so that my car actually looks brand new on the passenger side. He explained how they had to blend the black paint seemlessly so they took off my front bumper, and back bumper and the panel under the door. This is what blew me away most was that they actually also fixed 2 dents above my rear wheel well and painted it also! OMG!!! Talk about outstanding service!!! All the staff members are amazing! And I knew they were meticulous and try their best to be perfectionist because their shop is very clean and orderly! That itself says a lot about a business. I am beyond happy and will keep telling other people that Island Fender in my books is #1!!! I am so thankful to the staff of Island Fender! Thank you a thousand times and more!!! read more

Just picked up my car from Island Fender and they did a great job repairing my car! New bumper and painted a rear qtr panel. The metallic paint matches perfectly and the staff was professional. I am highly skeptical of this place. I had my car towed here by my insurance company after one of the tires on my car burst while driving. It caused the car to swerve right into the curb and part of the bumper was damaged after it scraped against the light pole. After the accident, I changed out the tire and continued driving the car with no problem. However after calling my insurance company, they wanted to assess the damage before they can pay for the repairs. Island Fender was where they decided to tow my car (apparently driving a few miles on spare tires is a safety concern). When Island Fender completed its assessment, the estimate came out to over $13K in external damages alone, and an inspection of the internal parts would cost even more. As a result, my insurance decided to scrap the car for parts and reimburse me the value of the vehicle. Using common sense, i'm sure a bumper and a new tire with some extra struts doesn't cost me the price of a cheaper new car. There is just no way.... plus it's a Toyota, not some luxury car. Went to Island fender a few months ago after getting into a car accident. Service was prompt and friendly. They keep you updated on the work (although I had to call and ask for it). They even finished my car about 1 week early! Which would be a great thing, but they gave me such short notice. (hence the 4 star rating). They called me at around 4:45pm letting me know my car would be ready the next day for pick up. I was thrilled but I just talked to them a few days prior and they told me it would still be another 10 days. They did not give me enough notice to get time off from work to pick up my car and return rental car. read more

Island Fender is one of the shops in town that was recommended to me by USAA. The first thing I noticed about Island Fender is the cleanliness. The receptionist are very welcoming, and helpful. The estimate was quick, thorough, and well explained. The parking lot, work area, and office were immaculately clean. The damage to my vehicle was minor (re-painting of rear bumper), but the work was clean and fast. I had my car back in two days! The best part about picking up my vehicle was seeing a completely detailed car (wash, tire treatment, vaccum) waiting for me in the parking lot. It's also helpful to know that this shop is a certified repair center for Mercedes Benz, so you know they deal with luxury vehicles on a daily basis. read more

Wow these guys are horrible! I got into an accident and needed some cosmetic work done to my bumper and door. Because USAA is my insurance, they referred me to this place because it was so close to my home in Honolulu. They initially told me about 10 days which I thought was ridiculous for the type of work they had to do, but I agreed to it...I had no choice. When I picked up my vehicle, they notified me that it wasn't 'complete' and that I would need to return it for some 'finishing' touches. I was pissed but agreed and got out of there. The next day when I had a closer look I noticed that my door alignment was a little off and I had problems with the lights in my console. I ended up having to take it to another shop to check out and they ended up fixing it. In the end...I ended up having to sacrifice giving up my car for almost 2 weeks for Island Fender to fix. When I called for the specifics of what they did and that it may be mechanical fault/error...they totally blew me off and told me to pursue it with insurance. In the end, I would never recommend this place to anyone. I ended up w/ more damages than a simple repair because of the long list of screw-ups this place did to my car. They lack in professionalism, quality, and are questionable in work ethics. I will never go back and will let others know of the same if they have a choice between the two. After having my car hit on the drivers side, a dent in the door, and scrapes to the front rim/back side of the car, and telling me what they would do, the car goes in, the car comes back out, and at first, it looks like they did a pretty good job. Fast forward to a weekend when I had some free time, when going out, sunlight was hitting the car directly and the entire car is covered in swirly scratches, hard to see when direct light is not on it, but they definitely were not there prior to dropping the car off to the shop. I had just bought this car used a few months prior, but practically brand new, under 10k mileage, it was smooth, very little to no scratches or damages at all. I've been taking my car to get cleaned from a great detail guy once a month who can attest that something was definitely wrong, considering my car has been under his care, and when I brought the car in to him to check out the damage before and after the body shop, he could not believe it himself, and discovered further damages to other parts of the car that definitely was not there prior. He suspects they must've hit the car on the passengers side and tried to repair it but did a crap job, he could tell because he knew it was painted when they should not have even touched that side of the car to begin with. I contact Island Fender and explain this, they say bring the car back in and they'll make it right. I go in, I explain it to the technician, and at first, he explains to me that after doing body work on a car, it's expected to have said swirls and little imperfections that can be corrected after the paint fully cures. As he continues, pointing out the swirly scratches, and we're on the PASSENGERS SIDE OF THE CAR, I let him finish his explanation completely before telling him that the drivers side of the car was what they repaired, so, why is the passengers side all messed up along with the rest of the entire car? He looks shocked and is trying to figure out what happened and takes fault for it, he's not sure why any other parts of the car was even touched as the only damage was on the drivers side of the car. He assures they'll fix it and make it right, we set up an appointment, few weeks later, I drop the car off, I pick it up at the end of the day, the car is sitting in the shade and the technician seems happy that he "fixed" my problem. I pull the car out into the sun, car is still covered in scratches, it looks like they just wiped the car down and did nothing else. At this point, I'm furious, and this is where things get ugly, the technician tells me that swirly scratches on black cars are normal and that they didn't do any of that damage, they don't do that kind of work, they don't wipe things down or polish them in the patterns of scratches that's on the car EVEN THOUGH IN A PRIOR VISIT HE CLEARLY SAID HE'S NOT SURE WHY HIS GUYS POLISHED THE WHOLE CAR, he then states that you can't see those scratches on the side they repaired when we're standing right there in front of it and I pointed out directly to him; "YES YOU CAN, IT'S RIGHT THERE!" He then tells me that maybe I RAN IT THROUGH A CAR WASH or that I damaged it in some other way? I could not believe he even said that, the last thing I said was expect to hear from my insurance company. After months of dealing with my insurance company, and having gone to another body shop to cross examine the car with what was repaired, even the other body shop noticed funny things about the car that had nothing to do with what was listed on the receipt for what Island Fender did. They did notice some of the same problems that my detail guy noticed that was definitely repainted, there was overspray, and they're not sure why certain parts of the car was touched to begin with. They pinpointed a bunch of little things that was strange about the repair job, and they talked with my insurance company to clarify these things. Knowing that, the insurance company covered the entire car to be professionally detailed to correct the mess that Island Fender had caused. Swirly scratches on cars, black cars especially, is a common thing, however, they are NOT normal, especially when I bought the car practically brand new and it didn't have that to begin with. Let alone doing shady things to other parts of the car for who knows what reasons without disclosing the entirety of what went on or why they did certain things to begin with. You cannot tell me otherwise, I was raised by a mechanic, I know a thing or two about cars, I have two other sources that backed me up on this as mentioned. I take great pride in the fact that I even own a car, let alone a luxury one, I worked hard my whole life to get a nice car that I never thought to even be imaginable with how poorly I was raised in a ghetto, only to have this company crap all over my hard work and mistreat me the way they did. Shame on Island Fender, if you value your vehicle the way I do, AVOID this company. read more

Happy Aloha Friday! Everything at Island Fender from the start to finish was better than expected. Although it's in Kakaako where all the other shops are, it is nothing that I experienced before. The office is away from the actual shop and the office is an actual reception area, very clean and welcoming. Just like a doctors office and everyone is very pleasant. Prior to the actual work, I received calls and text for updates. The same applied when the actual work took place. As for the day of pickup, the car was all nice and ready and when i say nice, car was washed, vacuumed and shiny tires. Oh did I forget to mention the actual work was perfect too! Some lady backed into my car and I had a minor scratch on my car... My insurance company told me island fender was actually one of the close locations from where I was... I called...and I believe it was a guy named van I spoke to... He was very friendly and helpful. I got all the information I needed and felt like I was in good hands. When I went in, I think van? Came out to help me. He took a look at my car and asked me if I would be fixing the other side scrape that was previously there. I told him no, just the area where the lady backed into me. He said it would be better for me to just cash out and not fix my car. Perhaps just use touch up paint to go over the scratch. How many shops would give genuine advices like that? He wasn't about to just take that 500$ to fix my scratch but instead telling me that it would be better for me to just touch up myself !!! I would definitely go back to island fenders to fix any other body work if I ever have to. And recommend this place to anyone who needs bodywork.
