The food here is really great, I ordered a chicken pita without the garlic sauce, onions and lettuce and my daughter got the Greek isle pita prepared the same way. We don't care for mayo and that's the only reason we didn't get the garlic sauce but they happily accommodated our changes and they were both great and full of flavor. We also got the pita bread and hummus which was amazing, a little tip I also have to add is I put some hummus on my pita sandwich and omg it was great. We will 100% be coming back. read more

Ended up stopping here yesterday on a whim - First off, the food is delicious. I feel like this place is suffering from an identity crisis though because when I hear the name Island Grill, I think of seafood. This is not a seafood place, it serves amazingly good mediterranean food and juices/smoothies. Seems like an odd combination but you know what, it works! My husband and I both had the gyro and it was super fresh and tasty. Our friends had the hummus and pita appetizer and the hummus was obviously freshly made and really hit the spot. Even the french fries, which look deceptively simple are tasty and have a mild cajun kick. You order at the counter and they bring your food, there aren't any waiters but this is no problem at all, it's casual and accessible. You definitely want to give this place a try. read more

I have trouble finding Gluten-free food anywhere in Houston, and most are just awful. This place is a Godsend! My husband ate the regular Gyro while I had the GF one. Both were beyond excellent! I love this place so much. I never really thought it would be that good, but all of my friends were raving about it so I had to try it. The food has been good each time we have eaten here. I really like the Reuben, that's my go to. This location has nice seating against the window or the wall. Also the TVs have been on fairly loud each time we have been in. You order up at the counter and then wait at a table for your food... it doesn't take too long to get your food either. Tried Island Grill tonight with my rather fussy hubby and can't say either of us were super impressed. It is definitely a lunch place or a very, very causal dinner place. They only have counter service, no waiter service. Hubby had a Ruben sandwich and fries; said it was "nothing special". I tried the veggie plate with hummus and falafel (normally has tabouli, but I hate tabouli so got extra hummus and falafel). The hummus was ok; nice texture, but not a lot of flavor. The falafel were huge and very fluffy and light, but they had no tahini sauce for them! When I went to the counter to ask for it, there were like 7 staff people standing behind the counter, but I had to wait until the one lady taking orders finished to ask for it and was told "we don't have tahini sauce." Ok. Then someone (owner? manager? who knows as he didn't identify himself) came to our table to ask us how everything was. Again, I asked about tahini sauce and was told "we have all the stuff to make it, but no one asks for it so we don't make it." I'M ASKING!!! and I see it in the picture someone else posted here on Yelp!?!? The ginger peach ice tea is great. Our kids had pasta with veggies, which was ok. Overall, we would go back for lunch, but probably not dinner. read more

My friend and I came here for lunch one weekday. It was the last day of school, so the place was packed with both adults with their kids and high-schoolers from Memorial nearby. I was a little hesitant since I'm not a big Greek food person, so I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich. When I asked what type of cheese they used in the sandwich (which they should advertise in their menu because it isn't your typical American or cheddar cheese), they told me it was Syrian cheese. I'd never had Syrian cheese before, but cheese is cheese so I said okay. It was actually pretty good. White, creamy cheese inside crunchy, toasted bread. YUM! The scruffy-bearded and tattooed man at the cash register was texting in-between customers. He barely acknowledged me as I gave my order. There was no eye contact or words other than a mumbled "here" as he stuffed the change back into my hand. This man seemed the only one with this texting distraction and abrupt attitude. In between texting he was also delivering drinks and food. He clutched multiple drinks between his arm and chest as he swiftly served others before going back to his texting. He placed my plate at the location catty-corner to me and simple said "sir" before snapping up my little paper number and walking away. He seemed untrained and ill suited for waiting on tables and interacting with customers. I wondered if his persistent texting might be with his parole officer. When I flagged down a happier person to ask them for a manager, I was told that the manager already knew about this person's attitude. The happier waiter said I was the third person to complain today and he requested I send my feedback into yelp. So here it is. read more

I really enjoy this place, we have been three times in the last 6 - 7 weeks. The food is very fresh. We really like the gyro sandwich and the hummus appetizer. I also compliment the employees that take your order. They are much nicer and helpful then I have found counter order places in the past. Okay, so I got really excited about this place because my husband and I have a hard time finding GOOD breakfast places. Let's be clear about one thing - this is not a restaurant. They do not have waitstaff. Instead you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. It seems to be popular with families that have young children, because on a Saturday morning it was overflowing with loud toddlers. As far as the food - nothing special. Yes, they have lots of healthy options, but we ordered our eggs poached soft and got rock hard eggs that had to be sent back. The bacon was slightly overcooked, and the potatoes were slightly undercooked. The wheat toast was cold and dry. Didn't actually eat here, left while giving my order because of health concerns. When I saw a food preparer (wearing latex gloves, at a food preparation counter) picking his nose (literally!), i asked the staff taking my order if they could ask him to wash his hands, and I explained why. The reply was "Yes. If you want him to." While this conversation was going on, the preparer continued touching his face and nose (he was standing within 6 feet of the register, and the staff taking my order clearly could see this action).This did not seem to bother the staff who, while acting concerned with my being happy, was apparently unconcerned about good health practices. read more
