It's just the wait times that will get you. Tonight I took my sister here to celebrate the end of her semester and it was one of those nights with a 45 minute wait. I was anticipating not the best service since it was crowded but didn't want to leave since my sister was looking forward to dinner. So I stuck it out. Once we were seated, the waiter (Jeremiah) came right up and asked about drinks. We ordered our drinks and my sisters favorite appetizer, cheese fries. He quickly then brought the drinks and we placed our dinner order (we were prepared and already determined what we wanted). I was very impressed by the quality service we received tonight. Our table was towards the back kitchen area and Jeremiah made sure to not let us feel abandoned. He checked on us multiple times, refilled our drinks, brought sauces we requested and always had a smile. Jeremiah was awesome despite it being busy. Islands has changed: no more bottomless fries. And not only are fries are no longer included with a $15 cheeseburger ($13.50 average burger + $1.50 cheese), but they got rid of the one notable thing that set them apart as a business. Unfortunately, Islands is not what it used to be. I have grown up in Burbank and would eat at Islands frequently. Coming here post-COVID, so much has changed that I think those days are over. I understand raising prices with inflation, and I can maybe tolerate making fries an add-on. But ending the bottomless fries (among other changes) is really the final straw. Were they losing do much money on someone ordering a second basket that they needed to end the practice in addition to raising prices? Someone in my party wanted to order a burger with American cheese, but apparently that's not an option. You have to pay a $1.50 to add cheese, but now your only choice is cheddar? That's a textbook definition of getting less for more money. I heard their new tagline is: "Islands: fine burgers* and drinks *unless you like fries included in a meal, or American cheese on your burger"; I just hope they don't start charging for refills. It really is a shame Islands just ended the things that made them a decent restaurant in Burbank. We came here last night for dinner. Our party was for 5 people and the wait time was around 25 minutes. It took about 25 minutes to get seated. Our waitress was Courtney, she seem very polite when she took our drinks order. The issue we had with this place was the service which was very slow. After ordering our drinks, it took our waitress a while to come back to take our order. Then when we put in our order, it took a while for the food to come out and then we never saw our waitress again. Even the table behind us was fed up with the service, they had the same waitress. I got the Chicken Club Wrap which is my favorite to get here. I asked for ranch when my food came but it took a good 15 minutes for me to get it from another waiter. We were here recently and ended up sitting in the bar area since the wait for a table was too long. Food was fine, but the bartender spent pretty much the entire time ignoring customers and talking up a couple at the end of the bar. Having been a server back in the day, I 100% understand when they're busy, have a ton of tables, etc. and service is delayed. But this woman was literally ignoring tables, not checking on food, not doing anything because she was socializing. I don't know if that couple were coworkers or someone famous, or just her friends, but even my teenager noticed she was slacking off. (FYI, they allow under 21s to sit at the tables in the bar area, just not at the bar counter.) Yesterday my family and I came to eat here after having seen Disney's The Lion King at the nearby AMC 16. We walked in, kinda waited around a bit for someone to come and meet us at the hostess stand. We noticed as we were on the way in that there was some work being done on the roof. We didn't think anything of it. We were seated at table 20-something. Just when the waitress came by to take our drink order, we heard pounding on the roof and then saw some debris falling from the inside of the restaurant's roof/ceiling. Umm, there was debris falling right in front of my husband's face and onto his shoulders, behind him and onto my Auntie who was next to me. Oh, dear! Ummm, that's not gonna work. I'm glad we noticed this issue before we'd gotten our drinks or food. We were re-seated in a different section and all was well. My hubby and Auntie didn't seem too bothered by any of it. The manager came over to apologize and I simply told her the same, I'm just glad that we didn't have food or drink in front of us when that happened. It would have been so inconvenient, upsetting even. She apologized up and down. We were OK. So, no foul really. We finally ordered our food and drinks. Everything was good. I was really impressed at how I never saw the bottom of my iced tea. We were getting refills more quickly than we could finish our drinks. It was awesome. I know it sounds silly but that is one of the things that can ruin my restaurant experience. I drink like a fish and I hate waiting for refills. The only bad thing about that was that there were sooooooo many cups stacked on our table because servers weren't able to pick them up quickly enough. So, it was kinda a pain. We tried to move all the cups aside but we just had to kinda work through them. That leads me to the next sort of issue. We hadn't been to an Islands restaurant in a long time. So, we didn't know that they now offer bottomless fries when you order an entree that comes with fries. That's great and all but the fries are also made to order. So, when we asked for a refill on fries, we ended up waiting for quite a while. That made us all stop eating for a bit. Like my hubby, I don't like to eat my entree without fries as an accompaniment. So, we stopped eating mid way and had to wait for our fries as our entree got cold. Bummer! Everything else went well and there were no other problems, other than the roof falling on us tiny lil flecks of debris at a time, waiting a lengthier time than we would have liked, for fries, and a stack of drink cups not being bussed from our table real quickly. The manager was nice as ever and hopefully we will return sometime soon, as we tend to be in the area and see a movie once on a week. The food was ok. I wasn't thrilled that my fish tacos weren't hot. They were kinda luke-warm and just OK. The tortilla was tough. The fish was also just like-warm. There wasn't much cabbage on my tacos and the white sauce was cold where as when I asked for a bit more of the sauce, it was hot and had a completely different consistency. Weird. Having been relocated to the other 1/2 booth, I think it kinda messed with the flow of the waitress. We were seated sort of out of the way and so I think it was tough for us to find a waitress when we needed something. Ugh. . . I hope next time we won't have as bumpy an experience. read more

Some of the best service I've ever received. Everyone was super friendly, attentive, and helpful. Orders were extremely prompt, and food was brought out quickly! At one point out appetizer was forgotten, but once we asked about it, it was brought out in less than a minute. Food was also fresh & notably delicious. ISLANDS...."they got GOOD BURGERS!" It's been at least a decade since I was last at any Islands location. I realized it's been forever and decided to take my family and I on a Tuesday afternoon. We arrived just after their lunch rush and just before their dinner rush. The sweet spot time to relax and enjoy good company and tasty food! Parking near this Islands location is incredibly accessible from the parking structure just behind the restaurant and just a short walking distance to the front doors. Just after entering the restaurant: I excused myself to wash my hands and noticed how well maintained their restroom was kept. As I returned back to my table I could see how the staff were either cleaning and prepping/resetting the restaurant for dinner service. Or being very attentive to their random guests at the bar or throughout the restaurant. I must say, after working in the food industry for so many years you know what to look for and this Islands in particular was displaying VERY GOOD signs of a well run and managed restaurant! The staff always naturally greeted me with a warm smile on their face. It was unexpected and nicely received and returned after dining at other establishments (not of this franchise). That could take lessons for how well this Islands was exhibiting during my visit. Back to the review: Once my family and I walked into the Islands in Burbank, we were greeted immediately by a young female hostess. As she walked us over to a clean, and well prepped booth for dining. As we sat down you can more easily see the restaurant is still adorned with various tropical/Polynesian decor and surf boards/ memorabilia and had a few flat screens showing X-games of BMX riding to surfers riding the waves at the time. Not but a minute later we were greeted by our server taking our drink orders and giving us the appropriate time to make our food choices. Once she arrived back with all of our drinks, we were ready to place our food orders. We placed an order of their nachos with added grilled chicken, with the jalapeños on the side for the appetizer. (Just for those who are spice wimps at our table). I ordered the LongBoarder Burger with adding Bacon to compete the taste I wanted. The hamburger was well seasoned, grilled to my liking and request. Had fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions on a toasted bun, 1,000 dressing and accompanied with freshly made French fries. The rest of my family all got the Hawaiian burgers. The table kinda quiet for a short while we enjoyed eating our tasty burgers here.... The fries were probably the weakest part of the meal. Kinda of underwhelming. It sort of reminded me of In-&-Out fries after you didn't bother to eat them right away and just went on the ..."meh"... side. Yet, everything else reigned supreme that I witness of which I'll give them a pass on the fries. I'll most likely order the fries next time well done. I prefer a crispy fry to what I received. I'd recommend anyone else to do the same, who shares my taste for strong crispy French fry. This location of Islands hasn't lost their touch...."they got GOOD burgers!" Even after all this time since I was last there! The chicken tortilla soup, nachos were exactly how I remembered and enjoyed. The restaurant exhibited cleanliness, friendly staff and quality attentive service. Our friendly young lady server made sure that our drinks were always filled. She check in on us at appropriate times to see if there was anything else we needed. From refilling my endless bowl of chicken tortilla soup, to making sure we had more sauces. She was on IT! If our waitress is as good as the rest of the restaurant staff and servers. This Islands will be around for an easily ten plus more years! Way to go Islands in Burbank! Bottomless fries are gone. The bottom of the bucket fries less than an inch long and over cooked seem to be a whole new problem for me.

I have been a regular at this restaurant for over 12 years. What I really appreciate is the friendliness and thoughtfulness of the servers and bartenders. The food is always great, and if somethings wrong, they always make it right. They're always available for subtle modifications to make the food even tastier and great drink recommendations. I remember I used to ditch school in high school and head over to my local Islands for their unlimited basket of fries and unlimited soda refills. Back then I could eat anything and not get fat. What's scary though is that since California passed the Calorie Act or whatever it is called that requires chain restaurants that have more than 15 branches within the state to pose caloric data for their food on the menus, I'm finding out that not only was my metabolism great back then, but the shit I used to eat was fucking unhealthy. And you know, Islands is definitely not healthy. Now, I know that I shouldn't be complaining because my meal was free in deference to some surfing competition being cancelled in Hawaii, but now I know why I haven't been back to Island's for years. The food just isn't that great both taste-wise and health-wise. The Mavericks Burger consisted of BBQ sauce, crispy fried red onion strings, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and mayo that was served with a side of fries. Normally this burger would cost $10.45, but thank goodness it was free because I just did not dig it. The patty was overcooked and it did not taste like any burger I had in Hawaii. In fact, it kind of reminded me of a lesser version of the Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger without the bacon. Also, the signature crispy red onions that they trademarked as Island Reds tasted like the canned stuff you put on green bean casseroles. Moreover, for the price of one Mavericks Burger, at In-N-Out I could have gotten three tasty cheeseburgers, fries and a drink... Not that I would have, but I could have. Regardless, free is free so for that I am grateful to Islands... and I must admit that I felt guilty about getting a free meal so I ordered a beer and left a nice tip. I can't give this Island location more then 3 stars do to there service. They were very slow friendly but slow. I mean our waitress took our drink order and the drink didn't come out till about 5 mins before the food came. Here another part of the service that was slow. All the burgers comes with unlimited fries. Our waitress as if we needed anything else, we said yes if we can have more fries pls. About 10 mins later no fries yet. Our waitress come back and said " oh you didn't receive your fries yet" ... Hello you'er our waitress aren't you suppose to bring it. On to the good note. I'm a fan of Islands period! I love this Islands because of the free parking garage just behind it and the movie theater is just around the corner, true walking distance. Otherwise, I'm just a fan of Islands Restaurants. The Restaurant: Classic Islands, no different from the other Islands. Smaller than some and bigger than others. Their restroom could use a little expanding for plus-size people yet most restaurants have that issue. The Service: Classic Islands. I always have good service at any Islands I visit. Burbank was no different and I've been to this location a few times. The Food: This Islands is better than some other Islands when it comes to the food. I'm picky about their cheddar fries because I always order extra cheese. This Islands did it right. I like my burgers well done, not burnt. This Islands did it right. I didn't like that they charged $2 when I substituted the "free fries" for onion rings and that's not something that always happens. Most of the Islands restaurants wave the $2 charge solely because I order the cheddar fries. Actually, they all have until I went to this one. My friend and I were shopping around and stopped by Islands to cool down. We weren't super hungry so we just got chips with the spinach artichoke dip. It was pretty good. Before going inside to eat at this place, I would suggest a walk around the corner to see their sewer grease interceptor spilling dirty water into the city storm drain system. The island Burger restaurant grease interceptor/sewer is overflowing and dirty water is spilling into the city storm drain system. The grease interceptor is located on the back of the restaurant on N First Street. This issue is been happening for the past two weeks at least. They tried to fixed but the problem is back again. Two weeks ago when they tried to fixed the issue they left the side walk dirty and full of grease, which is a trip hazard for pedestrians. This is not the first time that the grease interreceptor overflows and spills into the city storm drain. I usually come for lunch and my favorite is there endless chicken tortilla soup. There bowls are so big, I could never make my endless soup bowl worth the cost. Islands is the only place that makes me feel like I'm on a vacation. I've been coming here for over 20 years and i still enjoy anything on the menu. Love the burgers and fries and their tortilla soup is by far best in the state (I haven't tried it outside CA). The service is always fast and friendly and restaurant is always clean. They have all the games playing on over a dozen TVs and they will change the channel if needed. I was here on Friday night and I was going to leave a 3 star review for the food but overall I'm leaving 2 because of the service. I asked for an extra fork because the one they gave me was dirty, and the waitress looked at me confused and said "you need another fork???" to which I responded "yes I need another one please".
