I used to take my sons to this restaurant yrs ago and sometimes by myself. Yesterday I came back to check out their happy hr, I was amazed how much it changed. The food is really great and most especially the service. I previously got carry-out from Islands in Cerritos. The staff were very friendly, and the location was clean, which was a plus. I ordered the Hawaiian Burger with fresh pineapple and substituted the teriyaki sauce for BBQ, adding pickles on wheat bread with onion rings on the side. OMG! The burger was incredibly fresh and delicious! Since that day, I've been thinking about going back for another one. Next time, I plan to dine in. We came for lunch. The manager greeted us and escorted us to a large table by the window. There is a great lunch menu here. I had a bowl that was loaded with seasoned chicken , lettuce, salsa and chips. It was delicious. My boyfriend had soup, salad, and a big cheeseburger with crispy fries. My first foray into Islands Restaurants in almost a decade. At the cost of aging myself with that last statement, i'm not very impressed. Centrally located next to the Edwards Cinemas at the Cerritos Town Center, there are plenty of places to park, and to do. It doesn't look like much, but the inside is very spacious and clean. There is an outside patio for additonal seating options when the weather doesn't suck. The restaurant is hawaiian themed and family friendly, with adult beverages for the adults in the group. There are two entrances, so if you go in through the Edwards side, do yourself and the host/hostess one too and walk to the front so they can check you in. Restooms are pretty decent, easy access. Tvs are set on sports channels, so it's a good place to grab some grub and watch a game. Our experience: When we were seated, we had to get up after the host walked off and grab a couple of menus from the table next to us. I was able to go to the restroom and wash my hands twice, then still had to wait to get greeted by our server. I honestly felt kind of ignored, but looking around at the other tables, i knew i wasn't alone, as the people behind me were there before i was and were there long after us. It felt like there was no sense of urgency, and aside from one guy that asked if we needed anything, we were about to suit up and jump into the kitchen ourselves. The server wasn't too keen on answering my questions and it felt like she was extremely annoyed, and we constantly had to flag someone down for drink refills. Food: Fountain drinks are bottomless, definite plus. Burgers include fries, which are fried twice, with the option to substitute for premium items at an upcharge of about $2-3. The original spicy buffalo wings do carry a solid kick, so if you can't handle spicy, i would strongly discourage you, else you'll be sitting in a restaurant full of people crying. We ordered the Hawaiian and the Hula burgers. Island's burgers are messy. They will get all over your face or shoot out the other side when you bite in. The Hula burger was a tad bit on the saltier side, but we couldn't differentiate whether or not it was the cheese or burger seasoning that was the culprit. The Hawaiian burger was sweet and savory, but very very messy. Ask for extra napkins and pray they bring them before you use the menus as napkins. For dessert, we ordered what we thought was the butter cake, in an effort to compare between other establishments we have recently been to, in order to see who's more superior. What we weren't told, which ruined the experience and left a half eaten cake and ice cream on the table, was that they pour their flavor of the season on top of the butter cake and then top it off with ice cream. This thing was drowning in tres leches flavoring. Nothing against tres leches, but this was not what i expected. No apology when addressed with the waitress, just a bit of going over the menu to confirm that we were in the wrong, as one would assume seasonal toppings usually imply fruits. We did pay for the cake, thought it was left half eaten. If you want it plain, tell them, or ask them what the flavor is. Return visit? I'm not so sure about that. read more

I love Islands; of course, the Caribbean and Hawaiian kind but, most-importantly, the restaurant kind. Though I've been a fan of this brand for years, my most-recent visit reaffirmed why - outstanding, friendly service, tasty food and fantastic atmosphere. Though known mainly for its hamburgers and chicken sandwiches, Islands does other things well. My personal favorite is its China Coast salad. It's an Asian chicken salad of the type that used to be popular at a lot of places but, for some unknown reason, harder to find today. Well, the rendition at Islands is filling and refreshing. Fresh, crispy lettuce and a beyond-tasty dressing are what makes this salad what it is. Of course, great food would mean little without great service, and Islands shines in an area that has suffered elsewhere post-pandemic. Recommended highly! read more

My first time visiting this location. Parking is ample as it's in a town center. We sat in the bar area which is always a 50-50 draw on service. Took some time to get waited on, but once we were helped the food came pretty quickly. Didn't seem the cleanest, but again we were in the bar area. Once my food came out (Hawaiian Burger) which highlight is the pineapple and teriyaki was missing the pineapple. They did offer to bring me a grilled pineapple, but it just wasn't the same coming out 5 minutes after the burger. Stopped in for lunch today with my wife. Sat at a hi top in the bar and received the best service from bartender Gloria. She was all over everything truly top notch. Timely refills on drinks and condiments. Burgers were great as always with Islands. Unfortunately these days it seems a lot of restaurants really lack on service when dining in. Had to personally let Gloria know that we received the best service we have had at a sit down restaurant in A LONG time. We will be back. read more

Awesome Service! (1/11/25) I was meeting some co workers for drinks this past weekend and we decided on Islands as a place to start the night. I wasn't expecting much, I could not even remember the last time I walked into this chain, but the food was so delicious and the service was even better. Our server Marissa waited on our every need and had the best energy. The people I work with have some demanding personalities and she handled it with kindness and professionalism. It started our Saturday off right and I would highly recommend people give this place a try. Its kind of a hidden gem, and looks small on the outside, but is a surprisingly big establishment. I had their big wave with cheese and the cheddar fries and needed a box to take home. Also their version of a Mai Tai is a one of the best my group has had in awhile. 10/10. Love Islands! We've been here pretty much every happy hour we can get and because the beloved Long Beach location had closed down. (Such great memories!) The very first time we were here, I think it was when this place had opened and a week into their service the fries tasted a little raw and the burger was just soggy. But I am happy to say that it has changed for the better and food has been perfect the last five times we've been here. They recently updated their rewards program, I do say it is kind of confusing as I almost reached a free burger. As it turned out after my last dining in, I have now $10, and a few extra points. Service here is excellent, always attentive. Staff is masked and the outdoor patio area is perfect for happy hour. It does get a bit cold and windy outside, even in the summer time. Speaking of happy hour, $2 chips and salsa and $6 mango margaritas and those little sliders are my go to. Just enough to fill me up. Haven't been here in awhile and went tonight with the family. We had the beef burgers with fries and everyone said they were perfectly cooked and good. My BIL got the crispy chicken and I had a piece. Very good. I had the turkey party with onion rings. It was very good and I didn't miss the beef at all! And their onion rings are my favorite. The restaurant wasn't too crowded for a Tuesday night. I guess Mai Tai Tuesday isn't so popular in Cerritos! Service was excellent however. And food came out quickly. read more
